I have been using t-mobile phones on simple mobile for a while now. But I'm having trouble with the m8. I installed a custom ROM so that I could edit the APN, but every time I saved the simple mobile APN the phone would switch the default back to t-mobile. Happened multiple times. Anyone got any insight into what might be wrong?

Im on a stock T-Mobile HTC One and if you dont want to use the stock APN simply create a new one.
I did that because i dont want to use IPv6. I have data connectivity issues with it.
Flash back to stock ROM then do your WiFi testing.
Right now its flawed because your using modified software and if the wifi stack is not properly dont you will run into problems.

Hey, people!
I have an unlocked SGH-i747 I got last week. Today I tried to enable USB tethering, but I got the message "Mobile data is not available or invalid SIM"; same thing happens if I try to enable Portable Wi-Fi hotspot.
¿Any solution to this? I know I will probably have to root the phone, that's no problem.
Thanks!
Bone stock? You got to pay for it stock. Flash a custom ROM, it should work.

Yeah; I didn't know AT&T does that for tethering. I just flashed a modified stock ROM with the tether fix and that worked out pretty well.

I have same problem.. Please help me to do this
I have AT&T device, rooted and unlocked on another provider; also build-in tether does not work.
But it is working over 3rd party free (donate) application "Wifi tether" for rooted devices.
EDIT:
I double checked now, and it does not transmit any data over "Wifi tether" application. Sorry, it does not work....

Okay, so the question I have for OP is -- do you have network data turned on?
"Mobile data is not available" << means that data is turned off. Turn data on, then try to enable hot spot, then that should work.
http://www.marksatterfield.com
Mark, are you serious?? Of course I have network data turned on! Why would one try to share a disabled connection?
And always remember to read the whole message: "Mobile data is not available OR invalid SIM."
Have you guys tried pdanet? I've used it on stock and haven't had an issue with it.

I have the same issue, get the no mobile data or invalid sim with the built in feature. Tried different 3rd party apps and I get the same message with those. Tried the tether unlocker and that didn't work either. Even did the tethering provision file replacement and it still does the same thing. Contacted Rogers and I have tethering feature. My phone is a AT&T GS4 unlocked.

I have successfully enable wifi tethering in AT&T SGH-I747 by flashing modified framework-res.apk. It is for Android 4.4.2
I flashed my Samsung Galaxy S3 AT&T SGH-I747 and Wifi Tethering is working fine.
This is for AT&T SGH-I747 with Android 4.4.2 and with Baseband Version i747UCUFNJ1.
Download it. Once download you need to flash using any custom recovery.
Though it is not required but it is always advised to take complete backup of the device. Also, you need to try at your own risk. If you brick the phone, I won't be responsible. I flashed my phone and everything looks good.
Feel free to donate if it help.

I have a Samsung I747 with 4.4.2 not rooted, what version of PDANet are you using, I can get mine working?
I have a MK16a and have happily unlocked the bootloader and flashed a new kernel over the stock ROM; I have the latest baseband installed.
Any time I try to flash another ROM, I can't get mobile data to work. I show as Roaming, and can connect to GSM but nothing else. APN settings are good. Flashing a different kernel doesn't seem to help either. I tried re-flashing the stock ROM and then a kernel and then the ROM I wanted, didn't work. I tried doing a Factory Reset over the stock ROM that works and flashing another ROM, didn't work. If I restore the backup I made before doing any of this, everything works again - I just can't get any other ROMs to work!
I've searched XDA and other sites pretty extensively and I'm not coming up with anything. Anyone got any ideas?
If you can, ask operator to change your SIM. Should be a few minutes process at the store. I had same issue a year ago as well, although I left the country already, so it was not a problem.
Just a note, that all questions should be posted in Q&A section.

Interesting idea. I know the SIM works ok with the carrier-provided ROM on the phone, but it is a fairly old SIM card. Night be worth trying, tahnks for the suggestion!

If still same situation, make sure you are using baseband from MK16a firmware, not MK16i.
If your carrier is so-called virtual network operator, you may need to enable national data roaming in the settings. It's available in the mobile network settings at least in CyanogenMod ROMs.

We don't do recomendations on XDA. Such threads are forbiden because they ALWAYS revert into hapless arguments over what the 'best' rom is.
Truth is there is no best rom. Only the rom that is best FOR YOU. You will have to read the ROM threads to narrow the field down and try a few yourself.
Although the odds are VERY strong that whatever ROM you had for AT&T is available in the T Mobile version as well.

Do you have a T Mobile SIM card in the phone?
When you say you switched to AT&T I'm not really clear on if you just switch to AT&T software or if you actually used it on the AT&T network.

I'd say flash a stock rom in Odin to do a full restore to factory. See if that clears your issue. If it does it's probably safe to reroot it and go back to a custom rom of your choosing.
If you MMS does not work, I have found the solution.
It needs to be rooted with a custom rom, I tried factory unlocking it first, which did not solve the issue.
Just a heads up, thanks to the members of Skydragon and the root folks.

The APN type field on the default doesn't include fota or mms -- the AT&T one has it in there- make sure you add mms, fota to the list.
I'm asking this question because the current build of CM13 for the N910V is underdeveloped at this time and I was wondering if I could flash CM13 for the SM-N910T or the sprint variant without any modem issues, etc.
Do a nandroid using TWRP and try it out. I've been testing different ROMs myself. I don't care for ASOP. Kind of ugly and useless without stock Samsung Apps. But I have tested MIUI, and a few other stock based ROMs found in the international Note 4 forum.

Just backup your EFS, Modem, and Boot partitions for sure. If you get a successful flash, immediately use TWRP to restore those partitions and you should be golden. Might also have to edit build.prop to avoid Play Store issues.

what roms are available to flash?
Hi there,
I find myself in an unusual(i think?) situation in that I have the verizon Note 4 but i live in Ireland. Now while the phone is sim free for the most part, Data does not work here without a verizon plan obviously and it would have to be a roaming plan so I would'nt even think about purchasing one. So i've been waiting for an opportunity to root my N4, now that there is a method I'm just wondering if I would be able to flash a stock Irl/Uk rom to my phone, or another rom that would allow me to have data and spen features. I would like to find out if this is possible before I attempt to root. My phone is on 5.1.1 and is the BPA1 version. Any help much appreciated, thanks.

Pending you could add the correct APN for whatever carrier you will be using, you should be fine. I purchased 2 of these devices nearly 2 years ago. I'm on Verizon prepaid and my wife has been on T-Mobile every since.
Funny thing is I didn't have to set her APN manually. The phone did it automatically the day I put her SIM in. Now she doesn't get the full potential of LTE speeds and MMS is a bit kwonky, but it works.

Thanks for the reply,
do you mean add the APN settings after i've rooted? I'm intending to flash the vodafone 5.1.1 IRL Stock Rom if it's possible, I already tried adding the APN settings and it does not work(unrooted) due to bootloader being locked and like i said i would need a verizon roaming plan to be able to use data. So if I get root and flash IRL vodafone stock rom, will I still have an unlocked phone or not? I'm not an expert in this but I would assume the phone would then be locked on the vodafone network yes? Or would it remain unlocked to any network? So just to be clear, what i would like to know is 1. will I be able to flash a stock rom from Vodafone Ireland once i'm rooted 2. If I do manage to flash Vodafone stock rom, will the phone still be unlocked or locked to vodafone? Any help much appreciated. Thanks.

Unlocked sim and unlocked bootloader are different. The phone is sim unlocked from the factory and can never be sim relocked (for lack of a better term). So to answer #2, the phone will not be locked to vodafone.
For #1, I seriously doubt you could odin a stock vodafone rom to this phone and even if you could I'd highly discourage it. If the file contained a bootloader, it would lock the bootloader and could potentially brick the phone. I would recommend unlocking the bootloader, flashing TWRP recovery, rooting (or flash a rooted rom), and add your APN's. If the stock rom is blocking you from adding APN's there are hacks to get around it once rooted. I used to use an app called APN Manager that you install as a /system app that would let you change APN's as you wish.

Any Touchwiz rom should support the S Pen. I believe the Paul (5.1.1) rom does. There's a Note 5 rom that should support it. Just stay away from CM13 or any AOSP roms and you should have S Pen support.

Not such an unusual situation hello from Ireland also a proud verizon note 4 user myself. Meteor and Emobile for me. Data works fine. Let me know if ya need any help.
I am also curious about this situation. I got an awesome deal for my 910v; brand new unopened for 280usd. Only problem is T-mobile sim doesn't get service, and it seems people have lost T-mobile service after upgrading to 5.0. So now I'm stuck with my aging S3 and this brilliant phone just sits there. Fingers crossed that johnboy sees some good results T.T
