Hey guys,
Long time reader here ..first time posting!
I usualy have had an easy time rooting and ROMing my nexus devices and a close friend of mine decided to ask me to install the latest version of CM on his Samsung galaxy s2 t989D.. I read up on it followed the usual steps.. Ended up flashing CM 11 nightly and it seems to be pretty Smooth.. Now he had asked me to simply make sure his SMS were backed up nothing else.. So I was extra careful used helium, SMS backup and restore and titanium backups. Now I've been trying to restore the SMS for hours with no luck. SMS backup and restore says the restore was successful but nothing in the SMS app or hangouts.. Titanium asks if I want to restore data, app or app and data..when I hit data it says it was succesfull asks for reboot and still nothing..if I try to restore the app and data it doesn't work..I'm guessing because the app is from 4.1.2 and CM11 runs KK .. I haven't used helium yet but I'm losing hope..why isn't this working? What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: Just tried helium.. Said it was successful but still nothing :/
I might be wrong here, but I think KK stores messages in a different place than JB. Maybe you need to find out where that is and make sure that is where they are being restored to.

I would help, but my S2 is on JB stock... And has no messages on it or Sim..... To test.
So any idea how I would go about finding where these messages are?

Have you tried googling it?
If the messages are that important to him.... Your obvious course of action should be return it to stock jelly bean and restore the messages. Done.
Or tell him he's going to have to write down whatever is so important, and have kit Kat with a clean slate.
My phones never have many messages on them.... As they are gone every time I flash something new. I don't bother keeping them. But that's just me.
I'm the same way.. I could care less about SMS..its just bothering me how I can't restore this.. I can view the texts in SMS backup restore so I'm baffled as to why it's not working..

The charge/USB port on my current Epic has taken a dump...
Getting a replacement Epic...PLEASE confirm I'm doing this right.
I have:
Backed up ALL apps on Titanium and in SuperUser
Backed up ALL SMS and contacts as well to SD card.
Now, wipe to factory reset on original (it's rooted, and going back to Sprint)
Then just download Titanium on the new phone and I should be able to 'restore' to all my old apps, correct? Or can I install from the card?
Then use the SMS and contact apps to restore that info to new phone as well?
Also, no crazy kernels etc, I just like a stock, yet rooted phone (namely to remove bloatware crap, but really to run wifi/wireless tether)
Easiest root for GB? (I used the one click method with CWM etc all bundled together before on FroYo)
Or,
Just use the Toad Clean ROM?
Let's keep it simple...I have just enough knowledge to be dangerous lol
Also, I'm a truck driver, so if anything goes wrong, I have no way to find the answer, since my phone IS my internet connection (hence the need for the wifi/wireless; screw Sprint and their $30/mo lol)
THANKS!!
Well if youre getting a replacement and yet to receive it, youll likely have the official ei22 gingerbread. therefore youd wanna head over to this link to root it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1339478
you should be able to use titanium backup for apps and also any other apps you used to backup sms and contacts will be backedup to your sd card. when you get your new phone, just take old sd card out and into the new phone... then proceed to download titanium and etc..
it has been in store for a bit, so I doubt it has GB already on it, so I'll either OTA, or google link update it...
I thought the transition would that simple, just wanted confirmation.
Thanks for that link...I'm looking at possibly doing the ACS ICS
Titanium Backup works well, but if you have CWM and a rooted epic you should just do a Nandroid backup and do an advanced restore with data only from that backup. All your info will be restored you just need to reroot your new epic, go to CWM and your good to go.

Also im currently running ACS ICS and it runs great. I always like doing both titanium and a nandroid backup just to be safe that i have all my data fully backed up
i have the secure element issue and am wondering if anyone can be kind enough to send me a nandroid or titanium backup with google wallet working. thank you!!
thanks....
Why would you want somebody else's nandroid...
because if it has a working google wallet on it me and others with the secure element problem may be able to use it. if someone has a phone with no info on it just google wallet that backup would be worth gold lol
I dont think it will work.
Crazy world, ay?
Nandroids between different phones are highly advised against for various different reasons.
And if you're looking for Google Wallet and that's it, there's an APK somewhere in the apps section that you can sideload. I did, and it's working correctly.
apk doesnt work if you have the secure element issue. it would be worth a shot if anyone has a nandroid please let me know. thank you.

what is this secure element issue you are talking about?
i had GW setup on my Nexus, then installed AR 2.1.1, and now it just hangs...i've rebuilt the entire phone...tried multiple roms...
it may have actually happened when I flashed BB, not AR, not 100% about it, but it hasn't worked since I had BB on it...(not sure if i tried it on AR, but flashed BB right after AR and noticed it then)

so, it looks like i am a victim....can we flash back to 4.0.1? i think my files brought me back to 4.0.2....
Ive used previous MIUIv4 ICS roms and never had this issue, but I installed this one earlier today,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1493631
A few of my apps didn't show up, Bank of America and Endomondo Pro. When I went to restore with Titanium Pro, they wouldn't install. I went to restore them with MIUI Backup app, the restore failed. When I go to the market to redownload them I get a error, "missing shared library".
Does anybody know what that means and can help me fix it? I've read a few things doing some research and it has to to do with Google Maps or GAPPS? Im not really sure. I have Google Maps on my phone, so what's the issue?
Fixed.

Hey Guys,
i have some strange issue, don't know if it's just a display bug or that i screwed up my backup.
Here's the story:
I updated to JB via OTA and then i wanted to do a reset via settings. So i downloaded mybackup and made a backup of my apps and music etc.
Then I did the reset+reset of sdcard and realised after that my backup was gone. Nevermind, I installed all apps again and it was fine. On one hand i think my backup disappeared because i also reseted the sdcard, logically (i'm new to this stuff), i thought that a backup will not be deleted by a reset.
When i now look under settings->memory my apps are at 5,17GB and there isn't much space to go up. And I have like 15 Apps which are small, so i don't get what could take so much space ?
So my question is: Is that a JB bug or is that my failed backup taking away that space becauce it's sitting somewhere in the memory ? I really searched all folders on my phone and coudn't find the backup.
Thanks in advance !

Hi Nucky,
I have the same thing but I think it is part of the Jelly Bean update. I did a factory reset after update but for me it didn't help either
Anyway me personally couldn't be bothered about it, still have enough memory available, but I can imagine you maybe need it...
sorry can't help you with a solution, but just wanted to tell you you're not the only one!
Best regards,
Jeroen
Thanks for the reply, good to know i'm not the only one and that the backup isn't the issue. I seem to remember under ICS you had 2GB for Apps (maybe i remember wrong), now it's 6GB of which ~4GB is full.
4gb for system files.

In ics the space used by sytem files didnt used to show. Its pretty much the same thing with whole lot details.

Hey guys, sorry to post here but long time reader, first time posting. I have searched and found a few topics but nothing that helps. I am on liquid 2.9 and have backed all apps/data. I recently flashed crDroid AOSP [Build3]. Titanium wont restore anything from apps to call log. Its a clean flash and have the most up to date titanium. Also, have the newest 4.3 gapps. Tried 3 clean flashes. Any suggestions?
Are you having the issue where it just hangs there when restoring? If so, go to menu>preferences>backup folder location>(select detect)>(select whole Device)>pick the one that is located in /storage/emulated/legacy/0/TitaniumBackup. Just make sure its the one in the legacy folder.
I do have that with the apps. Thanks. I will try that. With call log and messages it will say the restore has been completed successfully and it will take less than a second or two but nothing will show in the log or messages. Any suggestions on that issue. I know i can just start over but like to carry those over with me.

Do you have a backup of your last ROM? If so, use the app "Nandroid Manager" in the Play Store. You can restore texts and call logs from your backup. I've never used Titanium Backup to restore texts and call logs so I dont know about that issue.
Thanks. I will try that. I have always used that and it usually works great but 4.3 is a different animal. I am sure Titanium is working on it but wanted to see if I was missing something. Thanks for the help.
