So I am pretty happy with the a100, sans a few issues. The touch screen seems pretty bad toward the edges. It is particularly tough to hit refresh or close a tab in the browser. The next issue is the viewing angle. From the non-volume rocker side, its AWFUL. I mean, I have to look straight into it to see anything. Lastly, and this may be a software issue I have caused... the screen lock is immediate no matter what. I hate that. I want a pin, but want it to only be enabled after 2-3 minutes so I am not constantly entering a PIN to use this thing.
So, are these typical a100 issues or is mine bad and needing an exchange?
those are typical and things an owner has to deal with or return it. I chose to keep and still love it, but it is my first tablet and I got it for a deal.
one thing you can fix is the lock screen thing. go to Settings>location and security >lock screen (second section.) mine is just set to off since I feel safe about where I leave it and don't mind others using it. also in settings go to screen>time out settings for that option, and go to Wifi and network>wifi settings>wifi disconnect policy to change that. good luck

Thanks. Unfortunately, even after changing the timeout until lock, it is immediately locked upon being turned off. If the other issues are normal, I may just look at getting another 7 incher. Womp.
Also, I am in Boston.
Edit: Well, this is interesting, and different from all my other android devices. The timeout for locking is only for locking the screen after it automatically turns off. So, apparently, if you manually turn off the device, it will immediately lock. Kinda dumb, but at least I know its not a software issue that will be fixed by getting another a100.
I bought mine at BestBuy during black Friday for a really good deal. Those issues are annoying but for the deal I got I can live with. I'm just hoping after Acer pushes ICS update to these tabs, devs will start working on these. I also hope Acer allows unlocking the bootloader like HTC did.

I bought mine 2 weeks ago on eBay for 270 it was like new the stickers box everything was there
the owner wanted a 10 inch that's why he sold it I don't blame him
I want a 10inch
I keep this one because its pretty, fast it got everything you want in a tablet except the bootloader is locked that's a deal breaker for me.
I will sell it when new other quad core tablets are starting to come out
I say if. you can afford a 10in sell it. otherwise its a good tablet
I love it many people here do too
better than kindle fire trust me

Screen sensitivity is definitely an issue. A member sent his in to acer to get checked out. Maybe they can fix it via OTA.
Viewing angle thats just how it is. If you flip 180 then it isnt so much an issue.
Battery thats just how it is. Wish it would last longer but atleast it charges fast
For the $250 I got it for there isn't any other 7 inch tablet that can do what this does. If you root and change build prop ID to a500 you can see more apps in the Market ie gameloft games.
The only thing I wished is the 16gb went down in price too. The 8gb limit is killing me. I have 1.7gb left. HD games require so much data now.
If you got it for $250 or less I say keep it til something better comes out. And I dont mean rumored devices. Exchanging it will have the same issue/drawback.

Links2sd requires an ext partition in your sdcard, you can try my experimental script in the dev section that will swap your microsd card with the internal memory to give you a huge increase without repartitoning.

yes, i'm following the thread, bu my external SD is 8gb, like internal SD, so...
I suppose it is more usefull if you have a bigger SD than internal, uh?
yes, considering the local wal-mart sells 16gb microsd cards for under 30 (you can find a 32gb online for even cheaper).
Buying an microsd card and doing the swap is a lot cheaper than buying a whole new tablet just for more memory and the ability to add custom roms.

I completely agree...
But, do not forget, Italy is not the same as US market... so, at the end, here you can buy a 32gb micro sd for something like 50/60 usd
Sure, cheaper than buy a new tablet, but not so cheap as in US...
As the title says, I've started a petition to Google to include memory card slots on future nexus devices and to encourage other manufactures to do the same. Please check it out and sign the petition.
Also, if a wise and powerful mod saw fit, I think this could be worth a sticky.

Not trying to be negative but what's ur biggest gripe not having this option?I get no mass storage which sucks and if ur phone takes a dump ur outta luck however its not bothered me to the point of wanting to make them change it.really its like buying a car if you don't like one pick another.well that's just my 2 cents anyways
but...but...but...having no SD is faster and cheaper...

My biggest problem is that I just don't see the reason not to have it. Other than the iPhone, pretty much every smartphone has had some kind of memory slot for years until recently. Having it is cheap and takes up very little space. Why limit users? Why not allow them flexibility?

Why complicate things with an extra slot? Why slow things down with external storage? Why? It's not only easier for developers, but for consumers too. You never have to worry...its just there. You don't have to go "Well, VZW only gave me a 2GB SD lets go spend another $30 on a 64GB"...its just there and most consumers need that cause most consumers are, sorry, dumb.

I'm sorry, but that post is just dumb. (Not you, your post.) How can it complicate things?(*That's a dumb statement.*) I think even the older generation knows what a sdcard is and how to use it in a mobile device, camera, etc.. so I know the younger generation knows. What can be complicated to some, is hooking up your phone up to the computer and browsing through all of those folders trying to find where their pictures are saved. (*Most wouldn't look in the DCIM folder.*) Why slow things down? I spent an extra hour or so at the Verizon store waiting for them to transfer all of my pics, songs, etc...off of my sdcard, when it could have taken me 2 minutes to the transfer the sdcard from my old phone to this one. (*Again, dumb statement.*) I guarantee you most people are using the same 16/32 sdcard they've had from a previous phone and they either sell or put the new one they get with a new phone away for storage. Not to mention how APPS2SD has saved plenty of people space on their internal memory and whatever other benefits that comes from that. Sorry, but I just can't let you call me a dumb consumer because I want options. If you ask me, a dumb consumer is one who doesn't want more options.
Guys, there really is no reason to debate or argue this. Either you support it or you don't. If you do, sign the petition, like the page, and post something positive.
If you don't, please just leave well enough alone (like I said in the original post).
You could just buy a phone that does have an SD card slot. They don't have a gun to your head. Google is moving away from expandable storage.
I don't think Google plan to add micro SD cards in the future as we head towards a cloud based storage system in the future, so if you want an SD card, you'll most likely have to buy a non nexus device, this rant won't do anything much
I don't know if it's that people don't read or if my expectations are just to high. *sigh*
If anyone has anything positive to say, please say it.
No negativity here just opinion. I think manufactures should just include more built in storage. Flash memory is way faster than sdcards and I think that if there more of it, space would stop being an issue.

The only problem with this is that, the more the storage, the more the price of the phone. Imagine how much a 64 GB phone or tablet is going to be. I'm pretty sure at some point buying a 64GB sdcard would be cheaper. Plus, when you spend more money on that new 64 GB device that you want, now you have to spend all of that time saving it to the cloud or transferring it from the old device to the new one. Now when your space in the clouds begin to get to full, you now have to spend a monthly/yearly fee for more space. Sorry, but I don't see the benefits.

Most Excellent point.

Screw memory cards, where is my dvd-rw nexus??
I knew I should have gotten it. But wasn't sure at the time if I needed that much space. With stock, it just kinda gets eaten very quickly and cannot move apps to SD card. I regret buying a 16gb model.
Then sell it and get a 32GB
Whoever regrets buying it, i doubt would still be here buddy so go post such thread elsewhere. You can move apps via third party app btw. And u mind sharing how many apps u have installed cuz i got 120 and still there is plenty of storage left. (Trying really hard not to call u a troll)

I bought a 16 gig sd card to replace the 2 gig hold over from my Vibrant. Does me well.
T-Mobile Galaxy S 3, stock and rooted.
Have you ever though about Custom room? works well or everyone and most of the geeky Android users are now on custom rom, it will give you freedom of space, you can install your App anywhere you want but remember that some Apps are bound to install in phone memory, you cannot do anything about that because it's better on phone memory.
Rest, you can install anywhere you want, it's up to you.
You checked "Yes this is a question"
Guess where it belongs?

I'm just wondering how many people thought the 16gb model was smaller than it should be. With stock, there's a lot of bloat. I rooted last night and installed FrostyJB and love it. I'm going to get a 32gb soon. I love the Galaxy S3. Its amazing. I will never go to another manufacturer. Been here since the Vibrant. Never going to leave.
And I didn't think this would be worthy of Q&A. Sorry if I posted in the wrong place.

Why? Why? Why? Put a case on it now and wrap in bubble wrap for the rest of the week.
I got the 16 and totally forgot how Samsung divies up their storage. 16 - 2gb for RAM - 2gb for data/apps = 12.05gb left. Had I remembered that, I would've definitely bought the 32gb.
So it goes. I have a 32gb card but it supports 64, so no worries atm. I have a 32gb tablet with a 32gb SDcard and a keyboard dock with a 32gb full sized SD. More than enough storage for me.
Doesn't S3 accept USB flash drive through adapter, so you can get up to 80GB of storage.
I forget where I read it but there's an app or setting or something that switches your phones system to using the external sd card for EVERYTHING. So basically for the $30 sd card you just got a 32gb phone.
I don't regret it one bit. Best phone I've owned.

Well the more I read the more I see others having the same issue and may be a Jelly Bean issue.

I think you can still do it if your rooted though with Link2SD . Anybody else care to chime in??
May make me change my mind about the 16GB version.
BUT, I am pretty sure 16 GB is plenty of internal space for apps!

ATM the only solution is directory bind, bund I haven't tried it as I find it cumbersome to use from reading users' input on this thread:

This works great now.. but thing is that its too restrive .. it work only on SDCard folder.. Its not working for any other folder..
"data" folder where all apps and app data stays.. we need to work Directoryblind for that and which is not working.

No way
After trading-in a Note I in exchange for a Note II, I had to return my Note II to the store, and did the same a week later with my S III.
I see no point at all having a device that just a week after purchase showed the message: "not enough memory to update your apps".
After lots of reading and asking the techs from the store, I found there is no solution, since this is currently a Samsung desition to block this option completely out on their new models, furthermore, they even say it has been done on Google's request.
So wellcome back my HD2.
It's a shame, i'll stay away from Samsung products as far as I can.

Buying a phone is becoming quite a "case of study" where you have to be extra carefull, since you really don't know what you're buying until you have it for a few days, and then i's too late.....

Yes but is that on the SGNII or the S2 (in your sig.) - apps2sd works on the S2 anyway
16Gb Not enough???
I dont understand why you guys are worried. You dont think 16GB is enough to store apps. Besides any apps that require additional content download usually go to sd anyway.
My phone (currently) is a second child entertainer - ipad being no.1 ATM, whilst in the car etc - this requires a vast quantity of video (not a prob. With a 64GB ext micro sd sitting on my desk awaiting a suitable wrapping) and games - usually only the 50M cheap/free games, but the kids are getting older - games more complex - use much more space AND I have a son and a daughter - so need boys & girls games. The 16 GB Will not have enough space (my ipad has 24GB of these!)
But I thought about it (after looking a what I actually need)
My main reason for buying SNGII is for work - Internet access, in pocket books, logbook of Procedures done at work, basic office document viewer/editor - the 16GB will be fine for these. (Ipad was good but too big & heavy)
Second reason is really good deals by three for tethering - so I can drop my ipad 3G sim (saving £15 per month), again 16GB good for this - we use the ipad a lot when camping (wife can't miss x-factor)
Third reason is for a better GPS than my tiny iPhone 3GS (on its last legs - will be retired to iPod mode in car) - 16GB ok for this - but on device maps will needs to be on SD
Forth, a camera - again 16GB ok as can set to store on external SD (except bursts - but presume you can move these later)
Fifth - a note taker - this is actually joint 1st - miss my old WM phones (XDA Exec, Toshiba L something etc) and the stylus - notes are only stored on the internal - as I expect these are small file sizes I "should" be ok with 16GB
Sixth - a sketch book - I love to sketch - presume sketchbook pro etc will allow ext SD storage
For all the above I think a 16 GB will be fine, HOWEVER:
- Many of the medical Apps have large DBs - hopefully these will be extSD mountable
- I might run out of game space
The solution I have come up with (and my wife has agreed - surprisingly her idea - well she thinks it was) is Christmas: 2x nexus 7 32GB (due out soon?) one for each child (no ipad mini - the original plan for the kids by wife - STUPID PRICES) - kids tried the nexus out in shops and loved them (because they are better) - so I get some space back!
So.........I'm probably going for a 16GB in the end - it will save me money (currently £36 all you can eat O2 plus £15 10GB 3 contract) by only costing £69 one off plus £36 pm all you can eat, including tethering - 2 yr contract
If I run out of space, I'll root and either swap internal for external or directory bind
I'd get the 32GB right now in a heart beat, samsung would get more money, google would get more money (more space for more apps) but hey ho.
Figure, based on GNI & SGIII that the 32GB will be far away and more expensive. If it turns out it comes sooner, or the 64 come out and I'm struggling for space, I'll sell on eBay and upgrade (tho its more likely I'll wait for the SGNIV!) - if I do game it's usually on ipad anyway ATM.
Took a little while for me to get there, and I'll be gutted if the 32 comes out next week! But I think I've made a decision - probably!
(Please note: I'm not an apple OR android fan boy - I just choose what suits my needs the best - I do like to tinker so am looking forward to android)
PS: Love this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nf5-Prx19ZM&sns=em
Guess what's the next big thing.....

Regards.

Have you checked if your neightbour have Samsung phones?
You might have to move if he have a Samsung phone.
Will the dual-partition bring anything extra cool once TWRP is released and the Dev community figures things out?
I mean, Google put it on the phone for a good reason for their needs.
Just kinda wondering if it'll bring anything super cool mod-wise or if it's just another thing to annoy the devs?
I'm guessing it's not enough space to dual-boot on the fly. I haven't looked at the partition sizes or anything yet.
But maybe it can be used for something kinda neat at some point down the road.
Good question!
The dual partitions are booth supposed to be the same size as they both carry the OS. One partition is active and the other lays dormant until an update is pushed The update is applied to the dormant partition then the phone should boot from that and then copy the new system to the old location. On the fly OTA's.
Now thats what I read about the Chrome Books. Not 100% sure about Pixel but I could not imagine it being that much different. And if the partition sizes are the same then dual boot is possibly feasible.
Thats just my two unscientific cents. People smarter than me will have to chime in on this...
Sweet. Did not realize A & B were the same size.
I see dual-boot goodness in our future.
Stock ROM + Janky modded to ras ROM.
Thanks for chiming in, Scott.
If the partitions are the same size does that mean that the phone is essentially twice the capacity? If reformatted, could the 32gb version then be 64gb? I was thinking about this the other day

Nope on the 32 = 64GB.
But if you look at how much your system is currently using, that's what you'll probably still get if some wizard came along and combined A & B.

Umm... No.
To better answer that, here is the logic.
Let's say you were at 97% full due to many videos & MP3's, etc.
Then Google rolled along an update... that could possibly push you to 100% full and crash your phone.
I work VMware and have seen Thin Provisioning gone waaaaaay bad.
So my guess is what you see used by System right now, is exactly what System will look like if both A & B have a ROM on them or A & B are combined.
My 32GB Pixel for example:

Yes, I should have bought the 128GB and WOULD have if it were not on 60 day backorder at the time.
I figured I'd just return my 32GB and get a 128GB after a couple weeks but that dream is over.
Ahhh, I was correct in my logic...

This may be the first device to dual boot from the factory!

Actually to get more space you would have to remove either A or B. And then reformat the device to include the removed partition into the storage partition. Not something I would recommend trying AT ALL! Plus you are only talking like 5 Gigs extra space... If thats a deciding factor time to start using the cloud
Hmm... removing a B slot just to gain like 2.5-3GB... nah.
Although, that is a lot of MP3's.
Maybe.
Good (or terrible lol) idea.
