Hi! I am planning to unlock the bootloader on my new Z1 compact, but I would like to know one thing before I begin. Why does Sony need my IMEI number to download the unlock tool? Is it because the warranty repairs can know if my phone has been unlocked earlier (if I relock it with a TA backup?). Thanks
They won't know afaik, but it uniquely identifies your phone during the process.
Maybe because every phone has a different unlock code. And with your IMEI they can identify your device and send you the right code.
Because they have specific unlock codes for each phone (all are different).
It's basically an equation that generates codes. You could give it any random imei and it will give you a code. The phones have this code pre entered at manufacture and to give you the right matching code the need the imei.
As for the warranty I doubt it. Even of you did request the code they have no proof that you actually unlocked the phone if you restore your ta. And like I said the website doesn't have a database full of imei of all the sony devices released so far so it's unlikely that they cross out the devices that have requested a code. They could store the requested imei but I
doubt that it will affect warranty.
But still read the terms & conditions carefully. @henricson
Ok. Think I then will unlock Thanks for the answers.

Hi Guys
i have the famous front cover brake.
My phone goes to the Service CEnter from Se here in Germany
and they said that i changed the Firmware so the warranty isnt anymore available.
Now i have only unlock the Bootloader and rooted my phone.
Now i have relocked the Bootloader and flashed the stocl 2.3.4 FW on it.
Should i try to resend it to the Service Center ?
or will they still recognize that i unlocked the bootloader ?

They probably won't even notice, btw u meant "front cover break"? The stupid crack near the sensor?
If yes i think its said in that thread that issue it is covered by warranty.
When you unlock the bootloader, you provide to Sony Ericsson the IMEI code of your telephone. I think if you send it again to the Service Center they *might* check in a database if that IMEI has been provided in past to unlock the device... this is why at the moment I prefer not to root (and so not to unlock bl) my Arc s.
yes but they dont want do accept the Warranty
They say that if i unlock the bootloader (and i have done this)
the Warranty is anymore available

+1
And It's said during the unlock procedure that the warranty will be void... at least the official SE procedure...
For hardware issues I don't think we will have that issue. Unlocking Bootloader and Hardware issue is not really related unless we bricking by flash ROM or something.
If u got warranty pls update this post.that will help others.thanks in advance
I read that this warranty is avoid only for SOFTWARE SUPPORT.
Following the law, they should keep in charge all material problem.

It is not possible. As you can see in official instructions, last step:
Code:
Warning! If you perform this step, you will unlock the boot loader and which may void your warranty and/or any warranty from your carrier.
So you void warranty only if you physically unlock your bootloader and perform last step. So requesting unlock code SHOULDN'T void warranty.

Getting an unlock code doesn't mean that you should have unlocked it...it gives you the option. That's it
In brief:
I recently upgraded to the r800at on AT&T, and I've already come to root the phone on .270 using flashtools, (can't get OTA update due to specific circumstances, irrelevant) and I'm confused on the status of whether my bootloader is locked or able to be flashed with custom roms/recovery. After using the instructions at (unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions), I was stuck after the first few steps, as in the configuration file, the only items displayed were the IMEI, IMEI software version, Speech codecs, and working bands. Picture: (i.imgur.com/GTBLE.jpg)
I've done my best to try and search the forums for the same problem that clarify it, but due to either this being an isolated incident or my own incapability, I have been unable to locate a solid answer. Can anyone provide clarification?
Thanks.
Type the following in the dialed *#*#7378423#*#* then go to Service Info -> Configuration info. Where it says bootloader unlock allowed will probably say no which means you can't unlock it the Sony way. You have to do the test point method and pay one of the few members on the forums to u lock it for you. You are paying for the credits used for the software to unlock the phone.
Search the forums a bit. There is tons of info on unlocking the r800at.

I did this exactly as you stated. As posted above, the only things showing are the IMEI, IMEI software version, Speech Codecs, and Working bands. There's no info showing via the bootloader. I was just curious as to what that meant.
I just checked on mine and I don't see that there either. My bootloader was already unlocked. Odd. I wonder if that goes away once the bootloader is unlocked.
You could always check and see if you have access to fastboot.
Dear all :
Recently I bought an Arc S and want to unlock its bootloader, however it comes up with unlock fail. Really frustrated for that... Please give a helping hand
1. I 've tried the unlocking on three different machines Win 8 x64 Win7 x64 Win XP SP3 x86,
all showed Version 0.3 finished and oem unlock fail
2. I 've checked the IMEI code when the Arc S is on GB and ICS, both showed the same 15 digits IMEI.
3. I used the first 14 digits of my IMEI to apply the unlock Key by different explorer (IE,Firefox,Chrome), all showed the same unlock key
4. Track ID is functioning properly so I think the machine is not unlocked before
5. Bootloader Unlocked Allowed : Yes
6. Done all the methods stated in

Bootloader & SIM Unlocking:
PLEASE NOTE: The ONLY WAY to Sim Unlock your Phone is to PAY for it, so do some Googling and read which services have been recommended in the past.
PLEASE ALSO NOTE:
If you're Phone was manufactured AFTER a certain date, 12W11 (look under your battery for a similar number) then the Testpoint method no longer works, and People who have had Phones returned from a Service Centre are reporting that they can no longer unlock via the Testpoint method either.
- Know Your Android Bootloader - What it is and Why it Matters
There are three ways to Unlock yours, the Standard/Official method (For SimFree/Un-Branded Phones) which is explained HERE, (PLEASE NOTE! - You loose DRM when using the official method but not with the TestPoint) but if your Phone came from a Carrier then chances are (99%) you won't be able to use that method. There is a simple method of checking if you can or not which you'll find HERE.
Standard Unlocking:
Then there is the TestPoint method...
TestPoint Unlocking:
Two members - Alejandrissimo or Jinx13 offer a Remote Service which isn't free, but cheaper than anywhere else on the net, and when you take in to account you will also SIM Unlock and retain DRM using the Remote method it's worth it.

Mine states 12W48, but I don 't think it is branded or simlocked since I bought it from a local retailer in Hong Kong.
So even though it says Bootloader Unlocker allowed : Yes still might have chance that It is simlocked?
You should be able to unlock by the official method, which you wrote about.
You said it showed "oem unlock fail". What's the full error given in the log?
Guess I found the answer.
I think this is a refurbished Arc S and the IMEI code is a fake one.... "awesome" china goods....
Any method to unlock the phone given that YOU DON 'T KNOW your true imei?
Under the battery or in Dialer *#06#.
You don't get my meaning....
What I mean fake code is that
1. The IMEI stored in the phone
2. The IMEI stated in the sticker and box
are ALL FAKE.
I found that there are a lot of similar cases in some other Chinese Androids. They figured out the reason behind that is the IMEI code is modified by retailers (Well I don 't know how can they do it, but it seems very easy to them) and the IMEI you extracted by all means from the machine is no longer the original one...
Any method to unlock the phone given that YOU WILL NEVER KNOW your true IMEI?

Yes,
you can use test-point method to unlock which requires no IMEI number.
Oh boy..... What is going on....
Wait a second. This makes no sense. Firmware reports one IMEI, but phone is actually using a different one? How do you even use it then?
That 's why those chinese refurbished "brand new phone" are so awesome...
They claim that the phone is brand new and the evidence is that the IMEI stated in the phone , the box , the sticker are the same. However you use that that IMEI to unlock the phone and eventually fail. The only reason is that this is a refurbished one and those IMEI are fake.... There are numerous cases in the Chinese Android Forums.... You even can not unlock it by brute force (test point method)....
In that case we are not talking about Xperia Arc, but a chinese copy of this phone. Thereby this method does not work for you.

No. The machine itself is ORIGINAL, you can do a official update and apply the original ftf. The retailers received those second-hand goods and then INSERT A NEW IMEI and forge those stickers for the box and the machine so that the retailers can claim that it is brand new. I searched in the forum and found that some retailers will insert the same IMEI in to a batch of refurbished phone =.=
There are numerous methods for unlocking the phone but all resort to the IMEI, what if you have a fake IMEI =.=
Hello! I've been trying to figure out how to sim unlock my phones for quite a while now. I've asked everywhere, even unlocking sites how they get these codes (to no avail of course) and I never tried asking here for some reason. I want to learn how it's done, and how I can do it myself. My Dad jumps from phone to phone and always needs to get them unlocked. I don't want to pay for them anymore, I'd rather do them myself!
I just found this thread: [TUTORIAL] Unlock Samsung [GT-S5570 / i5500 / Galaxy Ace] which will help me unlock my aunt's phone which is nice I guess, but it looks to be a Samsung only method. Am I able to use a similar method with a phone that has an EFS folder? Is it in the nv_data file? How do unlocking websites retrieve the unlock code with just the model, network and imei? Do they simply ask the carrier?
I'd love for any sort of help! Just a guiding light, a path to follow, anything! Please and thank you!
Some phones can be unlocked using software exploits however most require a unlock code that is generated based on the imei as far as I know you can not generate these codes yourself
The short answer is that there are very few ways to get free unlock codes for phones these days. Samsung sometimes leaves system directories wide open which allows for a few tweaks to get the phone unlocked, but most other manufacturers have things locked down pretty tight.
The databases from SIM unlock services are filled with unlock codes which they purchase from manufacturers or component makers.
They have a app now that does it on the market but for how long who knows. U have to b rooted for it to work
unlock codes
Do you know what the name of that app is?
I have unlocked my z play's bootloader for downgrading to MM. Will this nullify my warranty? Is there anyway for the service center people to know I unlocked the bootloader?
You void the warranty with requesting the code. It does not matter if you use the code. Your device is in the database. If your dealer sends it to Lenovo for warranty repair, they open the battery cover, read the IMEI or other device data, recognize you requested the code, write a letter "warranty void" and send it back. That's my experience. At least that's what happened to my Moto X Play with hardware problems which are not software related (flaky contact on USB and SD card).
Yes, the bootloader will show as re-locked (there are three states: locked, relocked and unlocked). It will show in the bootloader menu. (status:2 or something like that)
Yes they will know as soon as they check your IMEI on their database.
With other companies that's not case, but with Motorola they void the warranty the moment you request the unlock code from the website.
My Moto Z died 3 months ago, and i have no where to go. When i went to the service center they told me that i rooted the device and i wont get the warranty without even looking at my phone. they just checked the IMEI on their database.
BTW.... Who has successfully locked bootloader on MZP ..?
Anyone !!!:laugh::laugh:
It's not possible to relock bootloader ...As there is no signed firmware available ......
Yes they will know... I just put in for a warranty exchange last month after having issues with it. Yes it was unlocked and had a custom rom on it when I returned it. They had a New Play in my hands within 2 days. They knew the phone was unlocked, I documented it on my warranty claim and they still approved and sent out a replacement. Thank you Moto.
