Anyone find led notification a little dim? - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Are there any tweaks for the brightness?

I think it's more an angle thing, the LED is so inset that unless you're looking right at it, it's hard to see. It would be awesome to see a screen protector with a little lense over the led to refract the light to a larger viewing angle... wont happen, would be nice.

Yes, I wish the notification light was easier to see. But oh well, not much I can do about it so it will have to be fine.

Glad I'm not the only one, theres got to be a way to make it brighter. Some hidden menu

Exactly, my S3 was so bright. Loved it. Even dimmed it a bit using lightflow.
No all-color notification light would be a deal breaker for me. I'd prefer it to be brighter, but it'll suffice.

Just a thought

Anyone have any ideas on how to make the LED brighter?
Whether it be through a software or a hardware update.
I bring this up because I use Don't Forget and it would help if the LED was brighter since sometimes I can't even see it from certain distances.
Thanks,
VIVA LA RAZA!
Ummm I do not think there is a way to make this brighter as it only outputs a certain amount of light... unless maybe you can change the light to a brighter one... idk though... if this can be done...
I see your point, and I raise it with another theory.
I was thinking of attaching a hard, clear, piece of plastic directly on top of the LED (but still flush with the top of the phone), that way the refracted light can emit a brighter LED.
Once again...
Just a thought
Well I guess that could work, just wondering why would you want the LED brighter.
It isn't as impressive or noticeable as the LED on the Blackberrys.

[Q] Button Brightness

Curious if anyone has found a way to adjust the brightness of the touch buttons?
I like how they light up and I like how its only for like 1.5 seconds... but the brightness is crazy if your in a dark room!
I just turn them off completely. That way I dont get caught at work like I did on my vibrant.

Yah that is what I have done myself.. but even if you could drop the brightness by say 75% would be nice.
I noticed it was too low on regular galaxy s2 (i9100) , so probably samsung increased it on this one,
and now its too bright.
but i like this one bright.

I would love to have my back light dimmed down to like 25% or maybe 50% as I do a lot of reading at night before i sleep and I turn the screen brightness down to zero.
It's pretty good in a dark room in bed, but the buttons is freaking annoying and too bright.
And having the button light off isn't very useful since I press the back button all the time and always miss.
And during the day, 100% brightness on the button serves no purpose since you can still see the button with out any light on.
I would love it if any developers could take a look into this request?

The HTC Amaze only turns on the LED's if it's dark enough, I wish the Galaxy S2 would also do this as it would save a bit of battery.
The Screen Filter app lowers the screen's brightness and can also turn off the button light. I can't post a link yet due to my newbie status, but search for it on the Market.
Patience for cm. since cm has a very customizable brightness control including buttons brightness.
Xda app via atrix
I would love this as well.
bump so I dont have to make a new thread:
BUT today in a tmobile store I noticed the Black t989 had at least double the brightness of the touch buttons compared to my White t989...Anyone else notice this??

Its probably just because the black background is more of a contrast
Unless I'm mistaken our phones cannot adjust the brightness of those buttons regardless of ROMs (cm or otherwise). I'm pretty sure we only have one led board that only controls on or off (hence why you can only have all them on or all of them off, not just light individual ones). Cm might have those settings but it's because cm is made for many different phones and some phones might have the ability to adjust the brightness but not ours.

DEFINITELY not the reason why. It was significantly brighter on the black t989

LED notifications?

I find it really surprising that they have done it once again - released a device with a full RGB LED,but without any support for it in the software by default. Pretty much like my old Nexus One, the Galaxy Nexus can only blink in white for me. Has anybody found a way to use all colours of the LED for different notifications?
Tweet deck for blinks a yellowish hue, although i did download led tester from the market to make it was working and can display all the colours i can throw at it. I don't think you can set custom colours though I am sure a rom will be baked soon with that option though.
Try Blink: https://market.android.com/details?id=imoblife.blink&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImltb2JsaWZlLmJsaW5rIl0.
This worked well on my Nexus One.
Blink does not work, but application called Light Flow works just fine.
Blink does not work unfortunately.
I've had Blue and Green notifications plus the standard white so far - would be nice to be fully customisable as standard though.

Cool. Glad you could find one that works!
I'll remember light flow for when I can get my hands on one here in the US.
when mine blinks white it looks more like a mix of colours rather than all white, like green at the bottom, abit of red in the middle and like a purple colour towards the top. is this just mine or is everyones like this?

Light Flow is free and works really well. Lets you customize notification colours, sounds, duration etc from within the app... and it doesn't require root.

You sure, it asked me for root when I had it, and I believe it was stated in it's description too, even though it adds itself to the accessibilities.
Surprisingly it works fine without changing anything other than the colors wanted
no root required

ye I understand that I've experienced RGB LED's before but not with such bad colour bleed through so I was just checking it wasn't my device that was at fault

It only works while the program is running or "minimized". If you close it in task switcher it stops working.
Thanks for that, seems to work perfectly.

I have noticed the same colour bleed and it has a very very slight flicker as the light pulses too.
I'm glad this isn't a fault, though I would feel better if other people who read this could just confirm their Galaxy Nexus does the same thing??
I can see the three distinct colours, yeah. It's almost like they have separate R, G and B LED's on the circuit board really close together instead of one RGB one. If you get my drift. Doesn't bother me though.

Screen gets washed-out under direct sunlight

Does anybody experience the same issue?
Everything works correctly, however when I go out and use phone on direct sunlight, the colors are washed-out.
I haven't experienced this issue in the indoor or when the sunlight wasn't too bright.
Is it the IPS display feature, or some kind of an issue with my current piece?
Thanks
I also have this with my H815
Same, with h815 but there was a topic about it.. Seems to be a feature to see better at a direct sunlight :

Do u also have a bright bar at the top of your screen?
It kinda looks like backlight bleed.
I have this irritating bright bar at the top of my screen
Ah, okay. I hope that it is a SW issue.
Yes, I have bright bar, everything is quite greyed out.
Thank you.

The first time when I got the phone, I almost freak out.. On closer look at the top edge of the screen, it looks like some kind of animation on the notification bar. I hope you get what I mean.
So relax, its not light bleeding.
It's by design, and I think it's awesome.
The colors get really washed out, I don't care if that's meant to be some sort of stylish feature, it's just awful! I used xperia z3 before this and they both boast of ips, I never experienced this on the Sony.

Does anything replace the now missing LED notification light?

I've been reading as many articles about the Note 10+ and haven't seen anything regarding the removal of the LED notification light. On the S10, the front camera has that halo, but does the Note 10? Just curious because the notification light is probably one of the most useful features for me on my Note 8.
Thanks for your help.
The "halo" doesn't work as a missing notification indicator.
You can only see them on AoD when your screen is off.
Once you receive a notification edges of your screen will start glowing but only for that moment you receive a notification.
I wish they would put an LED behind the speaker like HTC did with their One M7 back in the day.

Almost impossible to do. The speaker grill is so thin that you'd barely notice any LED there.

Small RGB array off axis with a folded light pipe would work. It could make the entire slit light up bright enough that you'd see it bounce off the ceiling at night!

Dunno. I mean, it's REALLY thin. It was hard for me even to capture it.
Get LED back cover...:cyclops:
Or a smart watch...
Had an htc one. That led was useless. So small youncouldnt see it unless it was in a very dark room.
Im not sure what the note 10 will have.
But betting it will probably be done via the screen like the s10
The LED was bright but it had to be viewed head on. It had no viewing angle. It could be made to to work but probably never will be because it will increase the cost by a dollar or two. And with millions of phones that is expensive!

Holey Light hasn't been updated since April. Use LED Me Know, it's amazing.
But those apps prevent the phone to enter deep sleep :/

Tried it, not a fan, I'll stick with AOE until (if ever) Holey Light works with the Note 10+
AOE has a lot more options for light styles and very minimal battery impact.

I disagree. I think LED Me Know does a much better job with customization and battery. And it doesn't require a third party AOD, which is ridiculous for AOE to do in my opinion. But to each their own.

Exactly to each their own, I don't use a third-party AOD with AOE I used tap to show the stock Samsung AOD.
As far as customization goes, LED Me Know gives you the option of basically a dot. AOE does that plus camera cutout, around the outer edge of the full screen, just the top and bottom, or just the sides. Different animations of the color/colors as you can choose up to three colors for each animation. LED Me does none of that.

Right, LED Me Know is simple. It saves on battery. It's literally a replacement for the missing LED. If I want flashy stuff on my AOD, I'll just turn on Edge Lighting.
Not to mention that AOE tends to be buggy, doesn't always work right, and the UI is just absolutely atrocious. It's so confusing to setup! LED Me Know is so simple and straightforward which is better for the masses.

AOE has been updated many times, including the UI. Once you understand it and set it up correctly it works perfect every time. Yes it is a little daunting for people that don't understand how it works.
AOE battery use at the end of the day is usually less than 1%.
The issue with Edge Lighting is it turns off after a few seconds so it's pointless as a LED notification unless you're basically sitting on top of your phone. Which at that point you don't really need one anyways.
That's a great thing about Android, choices. You like LED Me and I like AOE.
Enjoy

Well I think we can ALL agree that Android is far superior to Apple in ever way, especially the abundance of free choices on our Play Store
