Hi Guys.
i bought the Plantronics Pulsar 590a A2DP Bluetooth headset.
and it works great good sound, good connectivity etc.
But.. and its not a small BUT.. the freaking blue blinking light is to strong!.
people look at as if i where some kind of UFO going around with that blue strong blinking light. and this is in the middle of the day.. i cant even express how much its standing out in the dark. looks like some kind of blinking polis helmet.
so to my question. i have talked with Plantronics about this problem and they have no solution. i cant shut down the light using a software hack(button combination) and they cant supply me with some kind of manual to get to the diode to cover up the diode.
Does any of you guys have a solution for this?, i can be the only person that thinks this is annoying to the extent that i render my headphones unusable when used in the public.
No solution from me, but I like to have a look of a photo of the blue light in action
just use a black felt tip pen and color over it should dim it
I've noticed before with blue LEDs - they are so frickin bright - you need sun-glasses to look at them!
Hanmin: yes i think i will post a picture later.
zbee:i thought of using a black felt tip pen. and tried it.. but the ring that blinking blue is of some kind of material so it wont stick.haven't tried this fully yet.. eg different pens etc
i was on the bus yesterday .. and i had to put the cloak over my head so people would stop looking at me.. but. the freaking light finds it way out so it looked like i had some blue halo or something on me.
The red light is possibly even worse. I leave my 590's charging in their cradle overnight. Once I've managed to get to sleep with the thing blinking away in the corner, if I get up in the middle of the night, it feels like I've woken up in a house of ill-repute....the entire room is bathed in a red glow....I just hope that passers-by don't get the wrong idea one day!?!

hahahahha.. yea havent thought of it that way
here is the pictures.. one dark and one light..
as u can see the light is to freaking strong..
I also have this headset, and for me the strong blue light is the only drawback on the entire device, i love all other aspects of it!
(especially now i have different earcushions on it)
I also dimmed the light with a felt pen, a cd-marker to be precise. A tip for when you are applying the pen and you cant quite see what you are doing... put the device on bluetooth discovery-mode so the light flashes blue&red. Now you can see exactly where you need to put more ink
This option only dims the light little bit, if anyone has a better solution, let me know
I also have them. I bought them a long time ago. wow. They are great piece of device. Anyhow, use black tape (electrical tape) and cut them down to the right size. Not perfect but a suggestion.
Being honest, I would look at someone with that headset not for the blue light, but for its size. Everybody will look at you wearing whatever kind of headset that covers your ear. The light just makes them turn earlier. I would use them at home... anyway, watching an evening movie with such a blue blinking may not be the best experience IMHO.
they are not big like a DJ headphones..
anyway.. haven't used them for days now.. just lying around at my desk.
feel like an idiot with that blinking light.. (Beam me up scotty!)

Plantronics LED's are really strong now that you mention it. I also have a Plantronics Voyager 510SL + HS10... and the blue LED is really powerful.. lights up my room.. it has a red LED too and it is also very strong. Everyone gets attracted to that small BT headset just because of that blue blinking light.... but the call quality is awesome. Its worth $500 if anyone going to buy it.
I have a motorola with the same problem, I can understand and find it usefull for the glow when turning the device on and maybe after pressing a button, but is there really a need for them to carry on glowing while lisening to music? Hopefully the manufactors wll get the hint one day....
I wouldn't say they are unusable because of that blinking. This is in my opinion a minor iconvenience for a very good headset. And black tape should easily solve your blue light problem
I bought a Galaxy Nexus a few weeks ago from the Play Store and was wondering if it was normal to be able to see the notification light(not pulsing) in somewhat well lit or outdoor areas. In areas with poor lighting, it's hard to tell, but it's easily visible outdoors. Is this is a common issue? From all the videos I've seen on the Nexus, the bottom areas are always flush black.
I don't see how this could ever be construed as an "issue". You are just seeing the space in the glass where the LED is meant to shine through. Its not a problem, it's just how it's built.
Why wouldn't it be normal/be a problem?
But yes, if a light is going to shine through, there's obviously going to be a way to see it.
Not sure we are understanding correctly...
If it is very bright yes you might be able to see the circle where the notification LED shines through. I just put mine directly under a lamp and cant see anything.
At first I thought you meant you couldnt see the light when in sunlight
Why is this an issue..?
"Long is the way, and hard, that out of hell leads up to light."
So, I'm a bit confused as I've been having a lot of trouble getting the lightflow notification colors to work properly on the ATT Galaxy Note 2, and I haven't seen anyone else complain of it yet. The light normally lights up in response to the colors I set, but the colors are usually completely off. For example, if I choose the light as "White", the color comes up as a light blue. Yellow and Orange come up as green usually. The only three colors I've successfully been able to use are red, green, and blue...but from what I'm reading, it seems like no one else has these limitations.
I've tried fiddling with the settings for the S3, and that seems to make matters worse rather than improve them. Can anyone else confirm or offer advice?
In case you're curious, stock rom, not rooted or modded in any way.

Sounds odd...not sure what to tell you regarding lighflow, but you may want to give "light manager" a try in the play store. I've been using that for a couple days and prefer it over light flow.

I have the same off colors as you. The only clean colors I can get is Red, Green, and Blue. I think the LEDs are too far apart to work like a pixel and give clean colors. Everything else is just a dirty shade of one of those. Because of that I just let the stock LED settings stay. The ROMs I have used with Light Manager included seem to interfere with the stock LED settings even when turned off, so I "disable" it in the application manager.

Thanks. I just tried light manager...same issue. The "white" notification is just a light blue. It's quite clearly blue though. I also downloaded an LED color tester, and I can replicate. Anyone else have the same issue on stock?
Because the Note II is new, it may take some tweaking by the developer to balance the brightness of the three separate LEDs. You will always have some imperfections as a result of how the LEDs are mounted on the board.

There's a chance it may not be possible to get better colors. Sadly I've not got a note 2 in my rather large collection of devices to see an example.
Using the custom color option if you can get more accurate colors for the standard named colors let me know and I can probably incorporate them in.
The s3 and galaxy nexus both suffer from this a little, but it's not too bad, I've not seen a note 2 to compare. I think they either need the leds slightly closer together or a better diffuser over them to merge the colors more.

Thanks for the answer, much appreciated. I had the Galaxy nexus before this and I came to rely on Light Flow quite heavily, but it's severely limited on my note 2. Even though the Gnex didn't blend perfectly, you could still get what resembles "white", or what resembles "orange" or what resembles "yellow". I literally can't get any of these colors in any form on my note 2. When I enter "White" as the color, or set the custom color of all RGB to 255 each, it's a strong, turquoise color. I can see the individual LED colors, and they all seem right on top of each other, but I'm wondering if it isn't the blue LED overpowering the other two. I tried lessening the blue saturation to 200 and leaving red and green at 255, but it didn't make much of a difference.
Your app isn't the only one with the problem...as I mentioned above, LED tester and Light Manager both have the same limitations for me. I'm just kind of wondering if it's something with the ATT/sammy Stock ROM itself, or if there is something physically defective with my device (and hence I should go bark at sammy for a while). I believe you mentioned somewhere in the release notes that the Note 2 has full color support in lightflow, and I don't see anyone else complaining...so trying to figure out if no one else cares, or no one else is having the problem.

Also, if there is anything I can get to help you, I'd be glad to...you know, outside of a shiny new Note 2. If I was making a bit more money I'd be glad to send one over. But any debugging info, dumps, anything of that sort I can grab without being rooted or on a custom rom and send your way, let me know.
I am having the same issue with the light... I was looking at the light while I changed how bright each light is and I can clearly see where each LED is placed.... and that is too far away from each other to blend the colors correctly. I always end up with one corner being more red or blue or whatever then in the middle it seems to mix correctly.
Use the leds individually instead of blending. Save some battery. Honestly though, does it really matter, because, you know you are just going to flip the screen on and check whatever it is that triggered the notification anyways. Im just happy to finally have a led period. Dont really care about the colors. Now if they will just add a front facing speaker!

Yes, it actually does matter, for me at least. Maybe your workflow is that you just turn the screen on to check the notification, and if that's the case, then it's fine for you to only use one color. Your use case doesn't require anything further.
When I first got lightflow, however, it was on my Gnex, which did a decent job of blending. I would set different colors for different types of notifications. This was critical to me, because it let me know instantly, without having to turn the screen on, if I had something on my phone that needed to be actioned. If I walk away from my desk, go to the bathroom, and come back to a gmail color, I'm not turning my screen on. If it's a text message but I'm in the middle of something, I'm still not turning it on. If I get back, though, and I see someone's left a voicemail, there's a good chance it might be important, so yes, I'd turn my screen on. Add up all the different types of notifications I need to track, and it usually winds up with a hell of a lot more than just 3 colors.
On a side note, I've been playing with it all day. In addition to the LEDs being spaced horribly, the Blue LED is the most powerful, the green the second most, and the red LED is quite weak. This is why they don't blend well. Using custom RGB values in lighflow, I can mix it a little better than the preset colors, but it still doesn't look wonderful, because sammy borked the LED implementation on this phone.
Really? I disagreed with your assessment. I was nice about it. Just because we have a difference of opinion on how the device should work or be used, that's no reason to jump down my throat and start wishing my things to break. You're welcome to your opinion, but when you have to make it into an argument, go post elsewhere. This is a phone forum for people who mod their phones. I'm in the right place.

Yes I have got the same issue with my Note II, I wanna use Orange Notification light with Handcent SMS Application, but it does not show Orange, instead an impure ugly greenish shade. The only colors I could use are Red, Green & Blue for notification.
<Aamer>
No issues with led at all here. Had my note II since February. No matter what ROM I'm on aosp, TW, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3...... for some reason LEDs work just as they should for me. Colors are vibrant and very easy to tell apart. So idk

I think it's more an angle thing, the LED is so inset that unless you're looking right at it, it's hard to see. It would be awesome to see a screen protector with a little lense over the led to refract the light to a larger viewing angle... wont happen, would be nice.
Yes, I wish the notification light was easier to see. But oh well, not much I can do about it so it will have to be fine.
Glad I'm not the only one, theres got to be a way to make it brighter. Some hidden menu

Exactly, my S3 was so bright. Loved it. Even dimmed it a bit using lightflow.
No all-color notification light would be a deal breaker for me. I'd prefer it to be brighter, but it'll suffice.
I've been reading as many articles about the Note 10+ and haven't seen anything regarding the removal of the LED notification light. On the S10, the front camera has that halo, but does the Note 10? Just curious because the notification light is probably one of the most useful features for me on my Note 8.
Thanks for your help.
The "halo" doesn't work as a missing notification indicator.
You can only see them on AoD when your screen is off.
Once you receive a notification edges of your screen will start glowing but only for that moment you receive a notification.
I wish they would put an LED behind the speaker like HTC did with their One M7 back in the day.

Almost impossible to do. The speaker grill is so thin that you'd barely notice any LED there.

Small RGB array off axis with a folded light pipe would work. It could make the entire slit light up bright enough that you'd see it bounce off the ceiling at night!

Dunno. I mean, it's REALLY thin. It was hard for me even to capture it.
Get LED back cover...:cyclops:
Or a smart watch...
Had an htc one. That led was useless. So small youncouldnt see it unless it was in a very dark room.
Im not sure what the note 10 will have.
But betting it will probably be done via the screen like the s10
The LED was bright but it had to be viewed head on. It had no viewing angle. It could be made to to work but probably never will be because it will increase the cost by a dollar or two. And with millions of phones that is expensive!

I disagree. I think LED Me Know does a much better job with customization and battery. And it doesn't require a third party AOD, which is ridiculous for AOE to do in my opinion. But to each their own.

Exactly to each their own, I don't use a third-party AOD with AOE I used tap to show the stock Samsung AOD.
As far as customization goes, LED Me Know gives you the option of basically a dot. AOE does that plus camera cutout, around the outer edge of the full screen, just the top and bottom, or just the sides. Different animations of the color/colors as you can choose up to three colors for each animation. LED Me does none of that.

Right, LED Me Know is simple. It saves on battery. It's literally a replacement for the missing LED. If I want flashy stuff on my AOD, I'll just turn on Edge Lighting.
Not to mention that AOE tends to be buggy, doesn't always work right, and the UI is just absolutely atrocious. It's so confusing to setup! LED Me Know is so simple and straightforward which is better for the masses.

AOE has been updated many times, including the UI. Once you understand it and set it up correctly it works perfect every time. Yes it is a little daunting for people that don't understand how it works.
AOE battery use at the end of the day is usually less than 1%.
The issue with Edge Lighting is it turns off after a few seconds so it's pointless as a LED notification unless you're basically sitting on top of your phone. Which at that point you don't really need one anyways.
That's a great thing about Android, choices. You like LED Me and I like AOE.
