I am currently on d2att Snapshot cm11. I wanted to try KitKat, but meh. Running 4.4.2. When I rooted my phone at 4.3.3, I got too excited and forgot to make a nandroid back up (**** ME) so I don't have a back up I can return to. Anyway, I have TWRP and I really want to go back to Stock ICS. Not JB 4.3.3, but stock ICS. Is there anyway I can do this? I want to remove TWRP Recovery, CM, and go back to ICS if possible. Thanks....

erm... rooted twice? (Rooted at ICS then updated to JB, I went down to 4.2.1?? i think and it removed root)
Battery Life of this phone is horrendous, I don't know what's wrong with it.
You should be posting questions in the questions forum, not the development forum.
Wrong forum and no you cannot downgrade because you will brick your phone since you were on 4.3.3.

You CAN downgrade the os version back to a stock rooted 4.3.3. You CANNOT downgrade your bootloader or it WILL brick your phone.
You may want to check on the AT&T Galaxy S III Android Development forum here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3-att/development
There are a few options for stock ROMs and a lot of options for modified touchwiz ROMs
Moved to Q&A.
I believe the only way to get back to ICS would be with a jtag service as going back to ICS from JB or KK without jtag would brick your phone.
Does no one have a stock 4.4 flash?

Kinda seems to be some conflicting information, so let me give it a shot and hope I dont make any confusion worse.
First you need to verify your current base firmware/bootloader build. Install terminal emulator from the play store, open and enter this:
getprop ro.bootloader
This will tell you what build you have as your base. If it is a 4.3 or 4.4.2 build, you cannot flash any older firmware or modems. But you CAN still flash an ICS rom (or any other rom you want for that matter). (No guarantees this will run well though, since the version gap would be pretty large).
If your firmware/bootloader version is 4.1.2 or earlier, you are pretty much free to flash anything but 4.4.2 touchwiz roms.
I hope thst helps, and good luck!

Alright guys I think I may be screwed here but I'm hoping someone can help me.
A couple of days ago I flashed a 4.3 stock rom from Samsung for my SGH-i747 and decided I wanted to go back to CyanogenMod for a bit. Today things happened with the rom that have caused me to want to revert back to the stock ODIN tar that I downloaded from XDA. It's a pre-rooted stock ROM on 4.1.1
I've made two nandroid backups (1 for CM and 1 for 4.1.1) both of which were before I attempted to flash the 4.3 rom.
I wanted a fresh start and restored back to the 4.1.1 and noticed I had accidentally uninstalled some important components via TiBu. So, as usual, I went to revert back to stock using Odin and the pre-rooted 4.1.1 build I downloaded. Only this time when I went into download mode I noticed a few new things I hadn't seen before.
In red was "Warranty Bit: 1" and something about the bootloader. I researched a little and I know it has something to do with Samsung's implementation of KNOX in 4.3.
My question now is what can I do about reverting back to stock 4.1.1 using Odin? Every time I've tried flashing it since seeing those new things, Odin fails.
Am I royally screwed or is there someone who can help?

Read around in the general section. you'll see that if you try to odin back to 4.1.1 bootloaders from 4.3 your phone will die. be careful. The developers here are trying to figure out solutions for this new update. I hear it's going slower than usual.
Well crap lol thank you. I'm on a pretty stable version of CM 10.2, should I just leave it until reverting to stock is fixed?

You installed CM10.2 after you ran the stock 4.3 update? i've heard of a few here that have done that. I'm not real big on CM builds; I actually prefer TW based ROMS so I'm gonna wait out upgrading (since I'm on a stable 4.1.2 ROM). If you've upgraded and you're running something stable right now I'd stick with it until the experts here find out more info.

No I installed the CM 10.2 M1 Snapshot before running the stock 4.3 upgrade but before doing so I made a nandroid backup while on CM 10.2 so I just restored back to it.
Hello fellow members of XDA,
I am new to this whole thing of rooting and installing custom rom, so I’m kind of overwhelmed. I have done some poking around prior to this post and stumbled upon the Sticky and was wondering if the “[REF] [GUIDE] Welcome to your device, the Galaxy S III - by theexel” is this the standard to what I should be following?
I have a T999 on 4.1.2. I appreciate your time, recommendations, and advice that you have to offer. Thanks!
Update:
I was hoping you could answer some questions I have for Sanranhai's stockMod 4.3. If i followed the instructions while flashing the rom + one of the modems I'm still able to go back to older roms correct? Also if i decided to cmw restore to my backup (4.1.2 image) will the modem be the one I flashed from saranhai's or will it go back to how it originally was before? Thank you for your time.

My intention was to root, and to flash a stable rom (hopefully 4.3) for daily use, getting rid of some bloatware to speed up my phone, getting a new feel and look for me phone and increase battery life if possible. I know my model is receiving the official 4.3 but according to this forum most people don't like what Samsung did to it. Since I'm still in the earlier software version, I thought I'd give custom roms' a try.

If you are looking for a pretty good stable 4.3 ROM I'd recommend Saranhai's StockMOD 4.3 .. I used it as my DD (Daily Driver) the past month but have been on Doc's 4.3 ROM before that (they both use the same Base and Doc had to stop because he Bricked his S3 fiddling around with new things).. .. I wouldn't recommend doing the Official 4.3 Update, many people updated and the problem is you can NOT downgrade firmware afterwards, yes flash other 4.3 Roms but no downgrading.. Also the whole Warranty Bit isn't attractive to people.. ... Last night I flashed CM11 4.4.1 (KitKat) and been using it since then. So far I am very happy with it, everything that I MYSELF use daily hasn't had any flaws. Batter life has been decent also but their have been mixed results.. If you're gonna take the leap into rooting/flashing just remember to always read the OP's instructions as well as make sure its for YOUR device (ie: T999, T999L, etc).. Reading and educating yourself is key!

I'll give rooting a try after I'm done with finals. What sort of things do i need to backup for safety measures as that guide isn't very detailed in that aspect of how to do it and what I WILL WANT to backup.
You are not at risk of loosing the Data. But if you feel like it, please mae sure your contacts are successfully synced to Google. If there are Games whose progress or score you want to back up then do that. Apart from that the usual pictures and music stuff.
Try My Backup app. It will let you make a backup even if you are not rooted.

So Im assuming I have to root first before I can install a rom. According to the sticky guide I should be following this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771687 but, there's a note in bold that said "Do not flash a prior release after flashing this, it has been reported to cause bricks, read the thread for more information." Does that mean after using that latest version to root my t-999 i cant go back to older roms?
The guide also recommend i should start with 4.0.4 roms, should i ignore that?

You assume correct. You need to root first. Take the Guide advice. Do not Try to flash latest 4.3 version of Root66. Use the 4.2 version instead. So long you stay completely away from Samsung's release of 4.3, you will do fine.

You can use Doc's Leaked Rom or Saranhai's StockMod just fine. No issues there. Only thing you should remember, is that if you use the Root66 4.3, it will update your Bootloader to UVUEMJC. If that happens, you will never be able to flash previous bootloaders or previous Root66 versions. In addition, this new bootloader introduces eFuse and a new Warranty Counter. Those can not be reset once tripped.

You are right. Slip for me. I meant the UVDMD5 version which is 4.1.2. Yes you can flash any 4.3 Roms custom or otherwise. If you wish you can follow DocHoliday's Rooted Stock 4.3 Rom.
Samsung 4.3 is Official OTA that's correct.

new question on 1st page, bump
So I need some advice on which ROM to flash back on my phone. I am new to custom ROMs and managed to hard brick my phone. I am going to try a Jig to see if I can get into download mode, however, if I do that I am not sure what ROM to flash back onto my phone. It's a galaxy S3 i747. When this all started I was running JB 4.1.1 on it. Then I flashed CM10 and that went great. After I flashed CM10 my phone said that I was on JB 4.3. Did CM update JB and the bootloader? I know that trying to flash an older bootloader can cause troubles. Afater I had CM running I tried to flash LeanKernel and this is when I bricked my phone. So my questions is, do I need to flash the ROM for JB4.1.1 or for JB 4.3? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Look buddy, the first thing you want to do is flash the latest STOCK rom for you're model. After you've done that you can now backup you're stock rom via recovery (TWRP recommended), after that you now have a stable rom to return to just in case you fail to flash a custom rom. And I would recommend one of the stock mod roms to get the use of all of Samsung's exclusive features. Good luck, and feel free to ask any more questions.

There isn't an odin flashable 4.3 rom for i747. The last thing there is is 4.1.1 then the 4.3 you would take as an ota. I highly doubt cm updated your bootloader. Floating around the forums is an sd unbrick method. You could try that. I don't have experience with it, but quite a few people have. Good luck.

Not entirely sure. Never updated to 4.3 on a stock ROM. It was on JB 4.1 before I flashed CM10. However once I flashed CM10 the settings page said my phone was on JB 4.3. So not sure if the bootloader got updated or not.
Thanks so much everyone for the help. I really appreciate it. Unfortunately the Jig did not work, so it is all a moot point in the end. Looks like the phone is going off to get JTAGed.
I attempted to flash a 4.4.2 rom yesterday but it couldnt and it gave me a status 7 error. I looked it up and people said that you have to update clockworkmod. Well i tried to through terminal but it couldn't. It said something like could not find directory. So if anyone has any idea what I can do pleast tell me.

There is a 4.3 bootloader that would be installed if you ran an OTA update to 4.3 or you manually installed the 4.3 bootloader.
Did you make your backup using Philz? If not, make the backup using Philz, then wipe and install.

You can't restore to a completely stock ROM not that you have a 4.3 bootloader. AT&T never released a full 4.3 stock ROM, only an update to 4.3 from an earlier stock ROM.
If you did not have a 4.3 bootloader, you could install any stock AT&T ROM such as 4.1.1. Being able to restore to stock 4.1.1 would also allow you to sim unlock your phone for free, if necessary.

Your original post said you have an sgh-i747 which is an AT&T model. If you have a Rogers s3, it's an sgh-i747m.
Regardless of which model you have, you can't downgrade from any 4.3 bootloader which means you can't completely revert back to 4.1.1. The best you could do would be to run 4.1.1 on a 4.3 bootloader.

sorry i should have included the m lol. i wont worry about going back to 4.1 until the galaxy s5 comes out and im ready to give it to my dad. but back to focusing on this. im about to attempt to flash a 4.4.2 rom. either liquidsmooth or carbon. what do you like?
I prefer Validus version 4.3 because it includes Nova Launcher and it has a dark UI theme.
but thats 4.3. i wanna be on 4.4 and im installing nova and making it the way i had it before.
wait a second is it a 4.4 rom?

It is a 4.4.2-based rom. The release is version 4.3.
hmm interesting...you do recommend it? what great features does it come with?
I like it because it's a very stripped-down ROM, has a dark UI, and is AOSP-based.
It's not radically different from other ROMs but has exactly what I want. I run the same ROM on a Nexus 4 and Motorola Atrix HD.
I sold my Note 2 for Sprint and I now just want to flash a stock Touchwiz ROM or near stock at least. I haven't used the phone in a few months and i've looked over the development forum but i'm unclear on what to flash. I remember seeing a stock ROM but I can no longer find it. I am currently on Dirty Unicorns 4.4.4, baseband L900VPAMA7. All I want is the easiest way to send my phone to the buyer with a stock or near stock experience. I want the easiest avenue because I do not want to brick the phone right before I send it out. I also have a nandroid of my first stock backup of Android 4.1.1 which I don't know if it is safe to flash. Can someone please steer me in the right direction? It would be really appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for the response.
From what I gathered and correct me if i'm wrong, simply flashing the MC2 Stock zip, it will unroot the phone and take me back to stock (what version of Android does it downgrade to? Will the phone be able to receive the updated versions of Touchwiz?). If I want to stay rooted, then i flash the root.zip file right after i flash the MC2 Stock zip? (Would this be able to get updates to Touchwiz?)
Are there any other alternatives to getting a stock experience?
I did this about 2 month ago and it went back to stock unroot...yes u will be able to update... also it u want to stay rooted then flash the root file right after before again before rebooting and it will stay rooted ...no if stay rooted u will not be able to get update.... If u reall wanted to stay rooted there's a few stock rooted rom .. link provided

If you have taken the ne2 ota or flashed it with odin DO NOT FLASH that file. If you have not taken the ne2 update than it is ok to use.
