E989 Brazil or Israel - LG Optimus G Pro

I could not find the answer to this. I have a Brazilian LG E989, but there is no KitKat on stock for it. I did see that Israel does have KK, and is listed as having the E989. Can I flash it without bricking due to incompatibility?

Not sure it's gonna work. You can try. As long as you know how to return to stock in case some **** happens.
You also should learn how to flash your modem in case you succeed booting but fail to have signal.
I also have an e989 BR. However, I prefer AICP to stock.
Search a little bit through the forum. It'll take your time to put the pieces together. But once you learn it, it'll save you from headaches. Trust me.
Anyway, if only the thought of that effort gives you headaches, then don't mess around. Or you'll end up at the service center.

[Solved]

Long story short.
My phone got soft bricked after a software update
It was stuck on the "security certification " screen.
I tried using KDZ updater but the software updater kept force closing. So I had to look for another way.
Then I used teenybin to unlock the boot loader and flash a custom recovery.
After updating the recovery to latest TWRP
I wasn't able to flash ROMs cause
An error with the updater script kept popping up.
I switched to CWM and was finally able to flash the ROM. However it would "kernel crash" at ROM boot.
At the end...
I went back to unrooted stock using LGNPST And after a hard reset it worked just as good as new.
Typical "do before read". No offense, but if you're a newbie, like you said, why did you rush into things?
Why didn't you read all the info?if would've done your homework right, you'd see you need kdz updater for e975,not lgnspt.
I'm surprised your phone still boots.
Look in the thread "risks of using freegee" and you will find all things you need there. Kdz updater, the tool to download the kdz and other files. I'm getting tired to write same things over and over again for lazy people.i guess you kinda deserved it.

@kimitza
Hahahah chill bro. First of all, I did read a lot. And I did learned a lot.
The one who actually didn't read was you cause I said specifically that kdz updater never worked for me.
The software updater kept crashing.
I never rushed into anything. Idk why you ended up assuming that.
No need to be surprised either! The phone went crazy after a simple software update and I knew it was fixable. I just had to figure out how to. I never used freegee.
Kdz updater did nothing for me .
And no, I didn't deserve it.
But in the end I fixed the phone and left it as good as new after researching for hours so, you should probably ask before assuming or simply not write the same things if you really do not wish to help.
I fixed my phone using LGNSPT btw.

After the small misunderstanding we had up there. I'm gonna apologize if I seemed rude on my last message, I'm not usually like that but you didn't have to "rush into things" and call me lazy and said I deserved it before even knowing about the issue.
I know what you have experience with this phone and that's good for you but you need to remember that you weren't born with it and at some point you were a "newbie" too.
So be a little humble.
The phone wasn't even mine. I was fixing it for someone. When I first got it in my hands it wouldn't even boot. So I actually HAD to do a lot of research about it and I spent hours reading, you have no idea.
At the end I fixed it and it booted fully functioning.
Yes, I understand it is frustrating sometimes when users come crying and complaining about their broken phones when they don't even read anything. I know sometimes they deserve it. But I'm not one of those.
If the phone was mine I would probably obviously root it the right way, unlocking the boot loader and being careful about reading before doing.
So, next time don't misjudge.
I already apologized and now I hope we're cool.

Relax,no offense taken, but you"d react the same way if you'd see how many are asking for help after messing up their phones, instead of do a proper documentation first..or at least use the search function before opening a new thread.and to repeat same answers over and over...well...it's getting to me sometimes).
About me being a newbie, yes,of course i was,but i also got my share years ago,on windows mobile age. And i've learned my lesson. Believe or not,but when i bought my first android,i spent 3 months documenting, reading on all kind of forums. Then i made up my mind and tried everything.

[Q] Factory reset and upgrade question

HI everyone,
My girlfriend has a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy T-999 phone and she is using Straight Talk as her provider. She is using Android Version 4.1.2 ( which I wanted to root before I factory reset her phone- which I did before via the Dial Pad but at the last option after I wait the 30 seconds to a minute the last option isn't there; so I left it alone. and updated her phone to 4.3 ) But it isn't necessary to root her phone today unless it's very easy.
What I wanted to know is, is it safe to Factory Reset her Phone and than allow Kies to upgrade her firmware to 4.3 and still be able to use Straight Talk as long I put back in her APN settings that she is using right now?
Now as for me,
I own a
Verizon S4
AT&T S4 - Which was blacklisted because I bought it off Craigslist and a man called it in stolen and got me for $550.That's a story in itself
2x AT&T S3-One has a cracked screen but the digitizer is working fine, it's just the outer screen that is cracked, and I have a working S# which I use on a daily basis.
My issues, I will look up and spend some more time on XDA today and learn how to do everything correctly.
I wouldn't mind testing everything I learn either on the cracked S3 or my blacklisted S4 which are both on AT&T network.
I have rooted only phone back in the day,( a long time ago via dial pad which i think it might of been on 4.1.1. firmware) .- phone that would cause an issue on my part. Now, when I am not working I search and have read MANY MANY times on XDA and wanted to let everyone know that I appreciate everything that you all do on your own free time. But most importantly today, i need to work on her phone and get it updated and working correctly.
Thanks in advance for anyone who responds to this post.:good:
Are you trying to root or unlock? The first part about the dial pad and option not being there sounds like the unlock method, I don't know of any root method involving the dial pad

Yes, that should be fine, but if it is rooted or modified it may fail to initiate the flash. In this case go to the firmware thread linked in my sig and flash the firmware via Odin. (Let me know if you have any questions about that)
Off topic but I have to ask if you'd be willing to try something on that spare AT&T device. But if you are at all skeptical or uncomfortable doing this, it is perfectly fine to decline....
In case you dont know, AT&T once again seems to have decided to withhold the stock firmware for the new 4.4.2 update. This causes tons of problems for users here on xda! I have built the stock firmware for the I747 myself, but have no way to test it, so ive been sitting on it for nearly 2 weeks! If this is something you'd be willing to consider, please let me know. (I will tell you everything I know about the possible negatives before you do).
Like I said, if you're not comfortable doing that, its perfectly fine. Im just trying to find someone with a spare S3 willing to take the risk of testing it. (Risk is minimal imo, or I wouldn't even bother asking). But please do not be afraid to tell me no! (And you dont have to explain yourself if you do!)
Sorry for going OT, I just have to take the opportunity to ask when I can! I just dont want to ask someone to test on their primary device because there's always a chance things can go wrong.

Yes i am willing to help you out. I just need to run out to BJ's and get some food for my kids and the Cat food I should be back in about an hr or so, once I am back , i am willing to help you out with this. I will do a simple backup of the phone but you will have to walk me through the steps since I haven't rooted a phone nor done any flashing, if you don't mind doing something like a Google Plus hangout, i am more than willing to help you out with this project. Is that ok with you?
Yup that'll be fine. Thank you! Ill pm you in the meantime to let you know about any potential negatives before actually committing to flashing it.
Just so you know now though, worst case scenario is a hard brick. And we have not been able to get our debrick method to work on kk yet.
I am confident that will not be the result, but there is always that chance when flashing anything, tested or not. Just be aware that currently we cannot recover a hard brick updated with kk. You can pay for a jtag service, but if it did come to that I wouldnt be able to help on the cost more than just a few bucks.
Like I said, that is the worst that can happen, but if I thought there was a good chance of it, I wouldnt bother asking to begin with.
Thanks again and check your PM's when you get back.

Right now, the way I am looking at it, is I have another phone S3 running 4.2.1 and those S4's, People like you have committed their time over and over again, it's the least I can do. And if it does get hard bricked, when there is a time and it is fixed, you could just help me or by than I will know exactly what I am doing, and can do it myself. But I am willing to help you out and take the chance. I will PM you when I get back bud.
When I get back I will finish talking to you and than we can start.

Why did I get another Android phone?

I was so excited to get a different phone. I had been contending with the insufferable Galaxy Note 2 for 9 months. I really believed that getting the LG Optimus G Pro would be great.
Now I come to find out that there is this locked bootloader? yes before you even start typing: I already know about Freegee. I put it on my phone, it did its work. I have CWM on my phone. I cannot install a different rom. It aborts every time.
And nobody here can help. Its not like you don't see my posts. You see them. You just see them and decide to go on to something more interesting figuring that someone else will help the poor guy.
Hey guess what. I took programming in college. Only one course in VB but I did take it. And I've put up several websites back in the day. ("back in the day is a United States colloquialism")
My point is, even though I have a bit of experience with computers (linux distros, html, visual basic) I still can't figure out the quagmire that is Android.
Once the iPhone 6 comes out, I really have no reason to stick with Android anymore. I mean, if rooting and rom-ing the phone is more boringly laborious than jailbreaking, then what is the point of Android?
For example, lets say I do clear the hurdle and then flash a rom so I can get decent sound? THEN my wifi won't work. Or Some other crucial functionality will be fubar-ed. Okay okay... you say you have a fix for that? Well when its all said and done, the time/energy costs just aren't worth it, now is it?
0 #!*! Given ?
That's interesting because I never took any classes and have never had a problem rooting or doing Roms on any android phone. Sorry your experience has been bad but my questions have always been answered by somebody in the related thread. I would try asking again in the ROM's thread to see what is happening.

I agree. I don't post often but I really do hate Apple. Android kicks Apple's you know what many times over. Talk about being locked down.... If I've ever had a problem with a Rom someone has always helped me figure it out. Sorry about your problems though.

@Perry2547,
If CWM doesn't work then try TWRP, even i had problems with CWM.either install it from freegee or install this
copy this to sd card and then flash it in CWM and reboot.
I believe the OP just wanted to start a thread...
So you all may ignore him
Thanks @sukesh.
I tried the twrp you linked to and now my phone will let me flash.
Unfortunately, Camera has stopped.
Close thread please.

I don't even remember how I rooted this phone... I know I found a thread that had comprehensive instructions, links, etc and believe it was as simple as downloading/extracting an executable file on my PC and plugging the phone into USB at the right moment. I've flashed CM, stock 4.4, Slim and always find my way back to stock 4.1.2, modded to my liking. If you can't flash something in a custom recovery, it's likely your phone is protecting you from failure to completely read/follow a prior mod or a prerequisite to the ROM/Mod you wish to flash.

I too just got new lg ogp phone. Been trying to customize it to my liking for the past 3 days and night. All I can say about android is it is not for everybody. Sure, you can use it as it is when you first get it as a stock device, and it will work as advertise. But there is a reason that you try modifing it regardless of breaking the manufacturer's warranty (yes, once you start rooting it, you violate the agreement.) You have personality of the kind that thinks you can fix anything by yourself. Nothing wrong with that, I'm in same personality group too, many Android owners are. After all, what is the point if you can't modify the phone to your liking? Might as well get an Iphone right? Sadly though, it seems the new android trend is just heading the way of iphone, where users have to be protected from harming themselves. I noticed all the difficulties when I tried to root this LG phone, as compared to the phone I had two years ago. But android users are a persistent lot, more securities mean inventing more ways to break them. If you have problem installing ROM, try cm11 nightly build, it works for me. Post the specific problems and situations. We should be able to help each other. After all, android owners are together in a special community where we can relate to each other because of ideas we have for our phones. My advice to you is make sure you have the newest recovery and you are properly rooted. I can't use the script method where you run a msdos batch file. Since atnt suppose locked the boot.img file or something. Had to use a program called root master.

Exactly.
If android is going to be locked down, what is the point? With iPhone bringing in 3rd party keyboards and phablet size phones, might as well go with them instead of utilitarian design devices made by dictator led countries where creativity is frowned upon.

But Apple has been implicated in planned obsolescence as well.
Does that matter to you?
To me, it makes me a bit upset that I could work on my vehicle twenty years ago, but now it's not possible. Planned obsolescence.

Are you still having problem installing the ROM? You have never tell us what kind of problems you ran into specifically. You just ventted your frustration here, nobody wants to hear that. If you want people to help, describe the issue. Go to this site and download the program vroot.
http://www.mobilepoint.us/2013/10/android-root-master-one-click-vroot.html#.U9XRXYfwJGo
The program is in Chinese, so you may want to watch youtube videos on the master root program first. Do a factory reset, clean wipe, run master root program, and hopefully you should be able to install the recovery. Once the recovery is properly installed, you can install the custom rom. Since there aren't many, I suggest you try cyanogenmod.

I got a ROM to install. I indicated so in the thread. It was the E988 rom on the E980 thread.
I do a lot of whining and complaining but its for the best.
I hope that the complaining I did about Samsung's crappy products has saved a few people from buying...that is the only way that company will learn their lesson. Why pay $800 for a device only to get screen burn in.
But I never ever never ever BRICKED my Note 2.
I've bricked this OGP more times than I can count.
We should have the options to remove the locked boot loader. I would gladly sign an agreement acknowledging the risks.
We're going backwards. We're not making progress.
Same things is happening in desktop/laptop computers. I had to do something unusual to remove the UEFI on a Windows machine I bought last year just to install Lubuntu.
Speaking of Lubuntu, I had an ASUS Netbook with Windows 7 and an Atom processor. Needless to say, it ran slow. So I installed Lubuntu. Then , wow, the device ran so fast and smooth, and the already good battery life got three times better.
Why can't we have an option like that for our smartphones? I want to run the equivalent of Lubuntu on my OGP.
And another thing: Why are some custom roms dimming the display? Is it to make it appear as if the rom is giving better battery life?
Peace out bro.. but yeah, I'm not stopping my rants. If you don't like what I've got to say, simply don't read it.
This phone is not much more difficult to root than any Samsung phone I used. Also why didn't you do research before buying the phone? It was stated clearly that the boot loader was locked. However since day one of purchase I was able to follow a thread and have my phone rooted in ten minutes. It is really not that hard. Now there are a bunch of one click roots. This phone installs custom Roms every time with ease for me. I am no expert but I can read instructions. If you follow them, 99% of the time things will work. I love android for the fact that I have options. I am running a rooted stock ROM now but I love knowing that in ten minutes time I can have a new ROM flashed. This community has been so helpful and responsive.

H/Q First time rooting anything.

Hello everyone reading this, I have never rooted any of the phones that I have had, and i have looked into it before but had lost interest in doing so to the Samsung GS3 i had. After having this G3 for a month or two I'm wanting root it, but all I know is the basic "here this is how to root it". So I think what I'm looking for is recommendations on things to do once i have it rooted. So far I haven't rooted yet, and I'm thinking on using towelroot from what i have read so far.
Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.
I would definitely recommend using towelroot. Then get a bumped recovery on it so you can flash a rom such as cloudyg3. It'll give you some options you wouldn't normally have and remove carrier specific apps and garbage like that. That's a good place to start.
Alright, I'm going to have look into that, because I am completely clueless on that, like I said above I've really only gotten a mild grasp of rooting

The best way to understand, I believe, is to read, read, read. There's a ton of information here. Read, and if you don't understand something ask specific questions and people will be happy to help.
Thanks for that, and from my current guess a recovery is like a firmware load, and a bumped recovery is an updated so say to the next OS release. And ROMs I want to say are like themes. Though I think I may be wrong on that one

I rooted my Galaxy S3 about 6 months ago, and I did a lot of reading before doing it. The problem with everyone's advice to read is a lot of times, you don't know what you don't know. How much is enough reading and prep? A lot of what I learned, I learned through trial and error, and there was always great advice here if I needed help out of a particular spot.
Just make sure you have a nandroid backup and never ever flash a rom unless you're certain it's built for your specific device and carrier.
I hit a few bumps along the way, but rooting has been great, and I can't imagine not being rooted again. I'm planning on getting the Sprint G3 in about 3 weeks, and I'm gulping up all the information I can to ensure that I'll be able to root and flash roms. Good luck!

When root arrives what model do i flash h812

As long as the hardware is the same on the phone, which basically all g4's are, then you shouldn't have a problem. Canadian models have always had a us counterpart. People should know that by now and if they don't and this is their first phone they have no business rooting it in the first place.
Sent from my LG-H812 using Tapatalk
You don't really learn anything until you brick a device though.
Sent from my LG-H812 using Tapatalk
Wow guys this is terrible...
To answer the question, usually I always root and modify my canadian device with T-Mobile's. Never had a problem, since they use the same bands as my carrier (Videotron).
EDIT: Of course they come with the usual T-Mobile crap that I cannot use, but with root, there's nothing you can't remove.
Tmobile doesn't always have the same phones as the Canadian carriers.... That's a stupid thing to say. You don't just pick up a phone, see there's no forum for your device specific and head over to the Tmobile one. That's how you brick it. When root comes to our phones I am sure there will be 100% clear instructions on how to flash and which device it applies for. Stop worrying about root so much, be patient and know what you're doing.
True that and att phones are usually our counter part well atleast for all the phones I owned before

Unfortunately i don't think root will ever arrive for G4. Not unless LG and carrier allow unlock of the bootloader. I know people are working on it but it seems like an impossible task for anybody other than LG. I had similar experience with Xperia Z2 and had to sell the device at a loss just to get one that i could unlock/root.
I really do hope it happens but i doubt it ever will.
Well they did eventually release it for the G3....
Why are people going around saying that there isn't a possible root when we've clearly seen proof of it happening.
The has barely been out for a while now and you're all expecting it to come instantly right on release date. Relax. Seriously. If you wanted something you can root instantly go buy another phone.
