how to make defy look like a usbstick to any device.
i want some kind of emulator so my defy looks like a 2gb usb stick!!
Just connect to a pc with the data cable and select memory card access when asked for the type of usb conenction, it should get detected and act like a normal pen drive.
What device are u trying to use it with?

I have a Samsung 42" plasma with USB port and it read my HDD and all my thumb-drives to play movies/Pics/musics. Never thought of trying with my Defy. Will certainly try this out today.
If the device supports mass storage host protocol then I dont see as to why it wont. My LCD recognises the defy without a problem.

well yes normal usb sicks do work. hmmm i will test it some more.
If this is possible it would be very useful. I could put a bookable ubuntu on my phone and boot pc's from that instead of carrying a pendrive everywhere.
ow and im on Cm7
just enable usb mass storage in notification area

I DID and it did not work
hmm.... maybe just a little disclaimer in case it needs to be said: when enabling USB mass storage, the only storage system that can be seen from the defy is the one on the micro SD card.
So, if you don't have one, i'm pretty sure nothing would happen even if you connect it properly

There might be some issue in the device u are trying to connect to. Even in my pc i have usb issues. Some specific pen drives just randomly wont work on my pc. Just my 2 cents.
Hi all. I left XDA for a while so forgive me of this already a while. Basically I'm looking to plug my g3 into the tv or Bluray player. Currently it reads MTP however it just times out the connection and doesn't do anything. So I'm looking for mass storage mode. Is there anyway to do this on kit kat on a 855? Just running rooted stock.
So Ive run into a strange problem. I was watching a movie last night on my nexus, the file was on my usb drive connected via otg to the nexus. Today I try to do the same and I get no reaction from Stickmount when plugging in the drive. I have no problems charging or connecting the tablet to my PC, and the drive works fine both connecting to the PC and to my smartphone with stickmount as well. I also tried DLing an app called OTG Troubleshooter to see if that would help me. When connecting the drive it tells me that OTG is detected, but that "Mass storage USB device is not detected in linux/android". Does anyone know what the problem is?
Thanks in advance
Nexus Media Importer
I had a similar problem with the device not recognizing the OTG cable, it went away after I installed the Nexus Media Importer.

I tried with Nexus Media Importer as well, no success there either, it doesnt detect the drive. Thanks for the tip anyway
mine does the same thing with both stickmount and nexus media importer, I even tried 3 different OTG cables and flashdrives and get the same results

I have the same problem and have just tested that connecting a mouse or keyboard to the otg works without problems, what doesnt work is a flash drive. ( I have tried different flash drives to no success)
Does anyone know what the problem might be?

I uninstalled and then reinstalled it again and now it is working again. I think it might have been slow to update
Maybe you guys are using a Kernel with OTG+Charge option? if yes the problem maybe that you have to connect the AC charger and USB device together. If you don't need the OTG+charge you should deactivate that function.
I am unable to get my K400 recognized by the Fire TV. Was working fine until i did an update to 51.1.6.0 - Not sure what changed but
i cant get this thing to pair. Any suggestions to troubleshoot. The keyboard works fine with my WIN machine and i have rebooted
my fire tv as well so anything else before i dump it.
Thanks !

Always has worked great for me and probably the most popular keyboard for AFTV. This might sound basic but you are using the unifying receiver, right? If so are you using a hub? Maybe the hub is the issue...unfortunately if it is you'll probably want a new one since most people use a USB drive and a keyboard.
Not sure what u mean by unifying receiver, but i plug the Logitech usb into the back of the Fire tv usb port. what am i doing wrong guys.
Does it need anything once u plug in.. i ve done re-start etc but still the same.
Try plugging in just a regular wired USB keyboard and see if that works. Maybe there's something wrong with your USB port.

I replied to an earler thread that I run into this issue on occasion using a wireless keyboard with the Fire TV. Disconnecting and reconnecting the Fire TV power cord from the wall outlet solves it for me.

You probably already tried this but if you have usb debugging enabled in settings it won't recognize any usb devices; i.e. k400. Make sure usb debugging is off.

Not the case as I have never enabled USB Debugging. Its just that I lose the usb keyboard for some reason and have to resort to the procedure outlined earlier to get it to work. My Fire TV is rooted and that could be a possible reason.
Awesome.. that was it. Cant Thank you enough.

Hello there, I have some questions regarding the FireTV
I bought one some day ago, I already have an AndroidTV box but it's sh*t and don't play 4k video so that's why I took the FireTV, unfortunately I didn't know that you can't put a NTFS disk on it.
So I have some questions, which can seems noob for you experts but I need to know, how can I read my HDDE (Seagate Expansion 3To) with the AmazonTV knowing that USB can't power it on, I guess the USB don't deliver enough power..
Also I'd like to root but I can't because I'm on 5.2.4.1 I tried the unbrick method provided here (I don't care if it bricks the FireTV anyway) but I'm stuck at "Reading 000000200 : 0%", I tried on W10, W7 it's the same problem. On Ubuntu I can't make the software working (Permission denied, tried with sudo & sudo su etc without forgeting the chmod -x...) I guess that's because preloader aren't the same anymore and can't read it.
Sorry for my english, and thanks for reading/helping.
Use Kodi and play with videos through network, I play UHD on external drive through my router with Kodi. I connect with SMB in Kodi. At least this works for me....
This is what I was doing before I bought the HDDE.. The problem is that I can't let my computer ON every night (I sleep with the TV yeah, bad habits ), It's been almost 1 year that my computer runs 24/24..
I use a wireless router that I plug a external hard drive into. I use it as a network drive, all my fire tv's and computers have access to it. Can you plug it into your router?
Unfortunately you don't have root, so looks like streaming content may be your only option. Personally I hate streaming and don't want to clog up my network so I use a rooted Fire TV with an external NTFS hard drive.
To answer the first half of your question you need to use a powered hub. The Fire TV can't power an external HDD, only thumb drives. Plug your external HDD into the hub, then the hub into the Fire TV. Works like a charm. I have a 4 TB HDD that I use for Kodi.
For those who do have root and want to use an external NTFS formatted hard drive (for those big HD files that go over 4 GB) I have a tutorial here: https://tinyurl.com/mgzvy52
You are wasting your time trying to root 5.2.4.1 on an unrooted device. The only method available is the one where you have to break out the soldering iron.

I do not have wireless router, also 4k movies would be laggy I guess. But thanks for the tip, I'll see if I can do something with it.
Thanks a lot PhoenixMark, that's what I saw on another thread, you can not root unless you dissasemble the FireTV.
Thanks for the tutorial, really appreciate.
