Firmware update Nokia X/XL on Rooted device - Nokia X

Hi
This q is actually about Nokia XL but should also apply for X (since there is no thread for Nokia XL)
I have a rooted XL. Got a notification that there is a FW update and selected "Update"
The phone rebooted and crashed in the middle, with a white triangle image, and rebooted back to the current firmware.
I have no idea how to update this!! I unrooted it using supersu and tried again, still same result.
Finding a stock updated rom is a huge headache as there are very very few devs workin on XL
So...can anybody help me?
Thanks.

Yeah me too, i can't update to 1.2.3.1 from my nokia XL rooted. Maybe anyone can help please? Thanks

I recommend using Nokia Care Suite to flash the latest Stock ROM yourself.

Hi i was getting the same problem but i was able to update then.
the steps i have have followed were:
1.Turn off your nokia xl mobile and again while turning on your mobile you will get a nokia logo on the screen at that time press and hold the volume up button for 10 seconds then you will be getting a recovery window from there you have to select apply update from the external storage option by using power button.
*Selection can be done using the power button.
2.After selecting that you have to select the Android -->>data-->>com.nokia.update-->>files-->>update.Inside update folder you will see the 1.2.3.1 update file which you have downloaded and then select the file by using the power button and the update will start installing like normal. Atleast this was working in my case.I am sure this will solve the problem.

Same here
I have downloaded the update.
I tried to manually update with recovery mode(both stock and TWRP)
Getting error in executing update script in TWRP. It shows updating partitions but fails.
Have a solution, yet?

worked halfway, then failed

Bro, you are a genius. Thanks,
although it said "Update Failed and installation aborted"
verifying current system...
assert failed: apply)patch_check("/system/app/provision.apk", sth and just rebooted.
but i guess i know what the problem might be, i'll try removing gapps reflash the old 1.1.1 rom and then try to update.
that might work. will get back. but thanks for the reply

SOLVED !!
YESS!!
phew!
so heres what i did.
i downloaded a stock rom of 1.1.1 and flashed it using AngSanley's Nokia X Flasher.
(didnt wipe data, that option can be left unchecked)
Then,
Reboot,
selected update again
and voila !! It did..without any problems. And btw, theres now a recent apps button on the drop down status bar in 1.2.3.1, looks smooth.
so...

not able to update 1.2.3.1
I followed your steps, however i was not able to find the update in the sd card. can you please tell me is there any option of getting it done manually and saving it to my computer

okay, first, download AngSanley's Nokia X Flasher (u can find it here in xda)
then, download a stock rom of nokia xl
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BwwE8dUldDvMem4tTmxXeUFFX1E/edit
use this video to flash the rom
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=grf1mAchGlw
(you dont have to flash the userdata img, that will wipe the data)
now ur back on stock rom,
now try updating normally. should work. good luck

I tried that but it didn't work. I'm guessing the issue was with gapps. And the only way to remove gapps was through refreshing a stock ROM.

[Q] The Device doesn't boot into the system - SOLVED

Hi, I have rooted my device and installed a custom recovery. But that's it, haven't installed any new ROM, and still have the stock one witch it came with.
Today I received an update message, so I downloaded the new update, and as it should be, it requested a reset.
After the reset, the device boot himself into the recovery, ans apparently refuses to boot into the new rom, or anywhere but the recovery.
I performed a full wipe, and did a system restore. And still it always boot into the recovery.
Its a "Team Win" recovery v2.6.3.2
Help please.

I dont remember man...
I last time I rooted a device it was a Galaxy S2, and I cracked opened the **** out of him, and something like this never happened to me..
As I told, I did a system restore, why it still doesnt boot anywhere beyond the recovery?
One more thing,
After I manage to turn it off, it starts immediately as I plug in the power, but stops on the "Logo" and with this title in the up right corner: "Secure boot error! Cause: Device Unlock, so Boot Success"
Thats it... got this message and doesnt boot... After I unplug the power, it boots into recovery, and only then (whie unplug) I can order it to power off.
Iam desperate..
Ok, now I think I am truly Fckd up...
I accidentally deleted the only restore file I had... witch didn't quit helped me the one time I launched it.. but anyways, now even this one is gone.
So now I stuck with god know what system.. (I did launched the restore, bit it didnt helped).
I do have a working recovery, and thats it. Please help me restore the device to fully stoke.

Not sure. I was thinking Mahdi or Cyanogenmod. A complete ROM. If the 4.4.2 is a complete ROM, then yes. The update you are trying won't affect the recovery, correct?

Yes.. the update didnt effected the recovery, and from my experience it shouldnt... (the update is for the ROM, witch was stock)
Thats why I didnt install a custom ROM from the beginning, I wanted a rooted device, but for now I wanted to stay with stock ROM. After receiving an update message, I didnt think for a second that the root and the custom recovery will effect the update...
Maybe this update had something to do with the recovery... and because mine is custom, I have this issue...
Iam not an expert in the LG field, so Iam not familiar with those effects, the update caused...
Can you please look at the installation guide in the link I gave, and check if it is doable on my device.
Thank you for the help! :good:

I installed update.app with stock recovery. With the 3 buttons method. I was on the repack by oxalis.
After that i installed twrp 2.8.0.1. Before reboot it asked me if i want to root the phone. I cheked yes. After that the phone rebooted supersu whas installed. After i opened supersu it asked me to update from play or twrp. I chose google play and after that supersu got stuck. From twrp got stuck too. Cant update the binary.
If i did something different from you tell me please. Im willing to reinstall from scrach.

If you have TWRP recovery installed, your phone will go into a boot loop when you install the update. So yeah, don't do that. There is a fix around here if you do get in that situation (ask me how I know!).
I downloaded and flashed this, which will update you safely:

Just follow the method suggested by Raizen above. But there are two things I want to add:-
1. The drivers work successfully on windows 8 and 10. It's just that you have to turn off driver signature verification for a while. So don't worry if you have w8 or 10.
2. After flashing kitkat you will get a notification to update to Marshmallow and not lollipop.
P.s.- My opinion on Marshmallow- Everything's fine except the battery backup. I don't know if the issue has been resolved now. But I faced more than 30% drain overnight with location and WiFi off. I'm on CyanogenMod 12.1 now and I find it much better both in terms of battery backup and functionality.
Thanks guys. I will try it and let you know.

You can use kingroot or android one toolkit to root your phone if you are running KITKAT or LOLLIPOP.
To root MARSHMALLOW, you need to follow the steps mentioned HERE

I think I need to be already rooted to use this method, dp I not ?
I need to root and install twrp.
When i had my G2, the forums was buzzing with new Roms, it was pretty much a bullet proof phone, i was hoping for the same with the G4, pretty gutted that its so quiet in these forums for this phone.

No. Just install twrp. Reboot into twrp and install supersu. Be sure to not let twrp auto-install anything to root your phone.

Hope your TWRP sticks, I'm new to this and it took me 3 attempts to get it to stick.
To get into recovery
Hold both power button and volume down button pressed
At first sight of LG logo release power button 1 second, Still holding volume down, then repress power button.
You should now get white screen with just 2 options, select "Reset" , Select with Power button, scroll with volume up/down
Again get white screen and confirm reset
If TWRP is on phone it should now appear.
If its not you are in for a Factory Reset
:
Now do a default backup in TWRP (very handy this)
Then move systemless root zip to phone.
In twrp select install find your "systemless root zip " flash , then reboot using "System" DO not accept option to root your phone offered after selecting- reboot>system.
Hope its goes well

I am on the same boat as OP. I unlocked the bootloader after updating to Marshmallow, so I didn't have TWRP from Lollipop. Now, even though it says that the flashing went okay, there is no recovery to boot into. Using "adb reboot recovery" it shows the android logo with the exclamation mark. If I do it using the hardware buttons, I get the LG's menu to wipe everything or exit.

If you have root there are many apps on play store such as : quick boot, simple boot, quick reboot. Install one of these and and they all all have options for reboot, hotboot, boot to recovery, etc. etc.
I have TWRP on my phone and if I use the standard way to enter recovery , power+volume down, then I will get the standard LG recovery screen but when I accept the recovery options there, it takes me to TWRP

That's the problem, I don't have root. I need TWRP to flash the SuperSU zip, don't I?
EDIT: Wait, do I need to say yes on the stock LG recovery first? The one that says wipe everything?

@ Dante897 No, if you don't have TWRP then don't. don't say yes to LG Recovery or you'll loose everything . You can also run TWRP on your PC and install systemless root zip that way. That maybe what I did, I can't exactly remember now.
I'm off to bed now, last night was a late night too.
I figured it out. You aren't supposed to flash the recovery., you are supposed to boot to it, flash SuperSU and then use Flashify to install TWRP. I did that, but I flashed the wrong SuperSU (I am an idiot I know) and my phone won't boot now. Currently I am in download mode and downloading the rom with LG Bridge . You can follow the guide here if you want http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/unlock-bootloader-install-twrp-root-t3128241 but whatever you do DO NOT flash SuperSU 2.46, grab the newest from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64161125&postcount=3
I cannot say that it will work, all I can tell you is that 2.46 certainly doesn't work.
EDIT: Alright, I let LG Bridge install the update, no wipe happened. I did the process again, this time I flashed SuperSU v2.62-3 and everything went well and my phone is now rooted.

I also had an issue with TWRP sticking. I followed someone else's tip and you have to have the twrp IMG saved on your computer and also on the phone before flashing recovery with fastboot.
