Use Xperia Play as a BT controller for another phone? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So After holding onto my play for a very long time it's touch started to barely function (It's working currently but not reliably enough for regular use as a phone) I can navigate menus and stuff with the physical controls for the most part. But since I had an upgrade available I picked up the GS5. While I love my new phone and it's substantially stronger processing power It's hard using the emulators and other games I used to use the physical controls for. I plan on getting one of the Moga controllers at some point but can't afford to just yet. So for now is there any way to use my Play with it's glorious physical controls as a bluetooth gamepad with my GS5?
TLDR: I want to use my Play device as a BT gamepad for my GS5, but don't know if it's possible or what methods to try.
Thank you for any help. I'm greatly looking forward to any creative solutions that might be offered.

We must have exactly the same minds. Please help us!

Thanks! I'm getting it installed right now. Hopefully everything will work out right.
EDIT: Shoot. I can't get the apk to install on my Xplay... It says that it couldn't parse it.

Install client.apk on Play and server.apk on GS5.
Pair two phones with bluetooth from android settings.
Enable "XplaR Remote pad" in keyboard setting in your GS5.
Whenever you want to use your Play remotelly, turn bluetooth on both devices, change input method on your GS5 to XplaR Remote pad.
It is working for me (stock debloated GB on Play, stock debloated on Xperia ZL) (i'm using it when playing ppsspp)

I tried again still no luck. I can install the server app on my GS5, but the client won't install on my Xplay. I've tried downloading it again and it didn't help. Do I need to update my play or something?

[Q] Riptide GT and bluetooth controllers?

Hi there! I've been wondering what kind of bluetooth controllers are compatible with a stock Galaxy Nexus and Riptide GT?
Does the sixaxis work? It works for emulators. But havent tested it on nexus yet because i dont have mine yet.
Sent from my samsung gt i9250 which is in the wrong country.
I've heard that you need to have a modded kernel to use the sixaxis controller, but I don't know, that's why I ask
Sixaxis works great plugged in to the USB/OTG as it works as a generic controller (once you've got around the fact that google forgot to enable HID in the default kernel..). Riptide is almost a different game played that way.
Bluetooth in the sixaxis isn't standard so doesn't work out of the box, alas. There are apps to make it work but all the ones I've seen are IME applications, which aren't really designed for ICS (IME can only simulate keyboard events, not joystick events, so they're cheating, and you don't get the advantage of analogue controls that way).
The only bluetooth controller I've got working (FSVO working) is the iControlPad, but that's currently got a totally screwed up button mapping due to a bug in the iControlPad firmware. That may get fixed soon, though.
I'm sure in a few months there will be loads of compatible controllers on the market..
I know Zeemote is one thats getting bigger, I know several games are building in compatibilty for the J1

They shouldn't need to - bluetooth joysticks are standard and supported by default in ICS. Everything designed for Honeycomb/ICS will just work and no need for 'xxx controller compatible' mode hacks that earlier OSs needed.
If the zeemote is a reasonably standard bluetooth controller everything should work without extra software - but I haven't tried it and their website isn't forthcoming on it...
Edit: Google triumphs again - Zeeomote is *not* a standard bluetooth controller. Pity. I'd have taken a punt for 10 quid.

Ouya and current Google Play Store games.

I am just curious can the Ouya play games that I already have purchased on the Google Play Store? I am interested in purchasing the Ouya but only if I can play my current games on it as well.

In theory... I put Play Market on my Bluestacks and my games that weren't 3D ran fine. With the proper hardware (Ouya) the 3D ones shoudl run, too.

Something like this would probably work very properly for the situation.
well they said we can root it so it should be very easy to install google play, so i see no reason why you couldn't. but some may be hard to play with the controller but we will see when we get there. hopefully mines here next month
Games on Ouya
I Plan to use Sixaxis Controller app with games that don't support controlers as i use it on my tablet and i can enable gamepad for showgun if needed. We need someone to test a gamepad supported game on the system with the Ouya controler to see if it works that way.
Does Ouya even have Google Play Store?
I heard it only has their own market (like Ouya Market)
I want my Ouya not only for games, but also a media centre. Like playing movies from HDD ext., browsing, twitter, facebook, and others applications from Play Store.
how cool is that :fingers-crossed:
it hasn't been stated one way or the other. If apps can be side loaded, then I would say even if it's there, you could extract Google Play and loaded it that way, as well as the apps you want. The only thing that isn't know, what apps will play nice with Ouya's interface using a controller. A lot of apps, if not all, are designed from a touch input design.
I don't know if there is anything that Google Play needs besides an Android OS to function. So there could be reasons it may not work despite being able to load it on the Ouya.
Ouya will have their own stores called "Ouya Store". All games are ported to support Ouya consoles.
Shadow Gun is confirmed to work on Ouya. Please wait for the rest announcement!
Search youtube for 'Ouya performance test' there is a guy with a dev console playing lots of current android games so should be able to.
Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't Ouya have a touchpad on the control? That would work the same as touching the screen as long as there is a mouse pointer on the screen or you could enable touch location in the developer settings.
Maybe the new Store is like tha Amazon Store.
Has someone read something about the payment methodes?
any update on if anyone has gotten working playstore on the console?
The Ouya has a custom launcher and all apps and games are required to be recompiled with custom tags in their manifest. Only apps with these custom tags show up in the Ouya UI.
So its possible to adb push the Store and a custom launcher APK but you need a way of switching back and forth.
If you are not using the Oyua UI you will not be able to take advantage of the custom Ouya services such as ranking systems and friends lists.

You have to be rooted to get Play Store on a non-rooted Device.
If you do get root, contact theperson333, I think he can help.

Ouya will be featuring its own app market, not Google play market. The system runs on android Jelly Bean, but that doesn't mean its the same as your tablet or phone. Customized UI and maybe a different file format for games (I'm assuming they're still apks though.) You can pick up the development tool on their website.
I hope they allow PayPal as a purchase method.

[Q] XPlay Gamepad as MOGA?

Cant test right now as I have just sold my play but if tincore mapper works on the xp you can use that. In settings there is a gamepad mode and you can make the games think you have a moga, dualshock, shield or ipega. I use it for my s7300b but Im not sure about compatibility on the xp. Games normally come up with 'gamepad detected' and show the moga controls when it is set up. Hope that helps

If you don't want to root then you're missing out. Besides, Tincore Keymapper requires root, that's why it crashed.
__IMPORTANT________
This application requires root for advanced mapping modes.

Also I have emailed Heaval, the developers of Portalize, with some links about optimizing it. So if nothing else shows up I have to wait for an answer. Still Thanks for your support!
Rooting is so easy and there are no drawbacks. Opens your phone to so much more, and tincore is awesome

About root. There is no other way to simulate a controller.
Could someone explain to me how to use this app? When I install and run it there appear mouse cursor on my screen (I cannot move with it and I don't know how to disable it - if I uncheck mouse pointer in settings, nothing happens) and if I open the app from notification area, there is no options called MOGA or something like this, only some settings which has no influence so I don't really know what is purpose of this app...
I want play Portalize with gamepad too, but Gamekeyboard has settings only for "gamepad to Xperia gamepad" but haven't "Xperia gamepad to gamepad".

Gamepads for the note, remapping keys without root?

Hi
I've been toying with the idea of using the note as amongst other things a sort of game tab.
With that said, I've been researching around the web and found a plethora of gampads both usb and BT.
Now the one thing that seems to be an issue is game support and remapping of keys. Also in alot of cases ( samsung gamepad!!! ) you also have to repurchase the games either from playstore or from developer xxxxxx market .
I've tested a few , amongst them steelseries free, but there is always something missing.
For example I love the size and feel of the steelseries, but the game support is so so, and even games that it does support have missing features/ functions. Best example GTA 3 + steelseries free = no button for horn in the game ( a few missions actually need that)
Now I've considered getting a ps3 controller, but I'm not planing to root my unit anytime soon ( unless the whole knox issue is sorted), but then I'm left with the question is there a way to remap key without root?
Or for that mater are there any other controllers that would allow that without root??
Anyone?
Check out the Nyko Playpad. I BELIEVE with the Nyko Playground app you might be able to do the reconfiguration to your liking.
My review of the pad is here: http://reviews.greenrobotgamer.com/game-review/nyko-playpad-pro-controller/
Can anyone confirm the remapping of nyko is possible without root??
Anyone have anything to add to this?

Try a wired ps3 pad with sixassix or however its spelt its not to problematic but unsure if you can remap without root but I'm sure that will be your best bet its quite easy to remap and build touch profiles just search YouTube and you will be well away
I have a moga controller and use the universal moga driver app. It allows me to use the controller as a virtual keypad (gamepad mode requires root) and it works just fine for my PSOne and SNES games.
I'd also recommend the moga pro. Best gamepad out there. Official and unofficial driver app, for gamepad or keyboard input and complete 360 style layout. Also very nice attachment for smartphones and works with alot of games out of the box and all emulators i tried have a profile for it. Epsxe for example even with analog support.

Hm not sure if I understand correctly what you mean so I'll try
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.obsidianx.android.mogaime
with this app you can use the gamepad in "keyboard mode" meaning you can map any button on the gamepad to any "key" possible on the android keyboard. In this mode all keys are digital buttons though including the analog sticks, because that's the way keyboards work. This works without root.
The app has a gamepad mode which enables full analog support for the sticks but that requires root.
-->BUT there is an official moga app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bda.pivot.mogapgp) which also has two modes which you can switch to with the controller itself. There is a "moga" mode (green light) and a standard HID gamepad mode (orange light). With those two modes you're able to basically play every android game that has built in gamepad support, including full analog sticks. And both the ps1 emulator i use (epsxe) and the N64 emu (Mupen64) work with one of those modes out of the box. I don't even have the universal driver installed anymore because it is not needed in most cases.
Now to your other thing, I believe you mean mapping touchscreen input to the buttons? Bad news: There is no app or controller that allows you to do that without root. As far as I know at least, and I was following the development of those apps quite closely, even worked as a beta tester for this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.poke64738.usbjoygold
Just the info I was looking for
While on the subject, does the sixaxis app work without root? Might be able to get my hands on a ps3 controller.
Strongly considering moga at this point.
btw any experience with the moga pocket or hero (small one) ??

Sixaxis and a PS3 controller work very well, have touchscreen support and allow remapping but you have to be rooted. I have used Sixaxis on my Xoom and S4 (both of which are rooted) but thanks to Samsung and their stupid Knox nonsense, I cannot use Sixaxis on my Note.
I figured that you need root to get touchscreen part working, but do you need root for the rest ( on the sixaxis app) ie will it work at all without root?
Not keen on shelling out 25$ and realising that I might as well bought a moga hero or pocket for a 10 or so more that would to the job just as well.
btw any thoughts on nyko playpad vs moga hero or pocket?

Just read the description of the app on play store. The first line under important says Root required. So yes it needs root. And I'm sure you'll find reviews of those controllers on YouTube.
You can connect a ps3 controller to a android wireless but you will need root privileges. An OTG Cable Could be used to connect the controll with a wire and without root.

Which Emulators with Controller?

I use a Bluetooth Red Samurai gaming controller i picked up from GameStop for $15 for all Android games and Android emulator. No problem and in the back of the controller you have the option of switching from Keypad to Game pad mode.

If you are rooted, try installing the stock 4.2 settings.apk and pairing from the bluetooth category there. That's what I had to do to get my bluetooth keyboard to pair.
Where is that 4.2 settings apk at?
I am tired of being stuck with the old 4.0 version apk.

Yes Retroarch version with mame 2014 rom and two firetv amazon original controller works well. I made a custom build and signed the apk with one click signer. here is the link. I've tested it with double dragon.. I couldn't get two players to work with the official mame4droid.
Works very smooth except when too much screen draw happens. I hope they made a quad core retroarch version. its so close. what game are you looking to play?

My old ones are sega master system with transbot and captain silver. with pico. works very well except the stick dose not work and have to use the arrow keys.
Retroarch doesnt seem to work on the Fire TV Stick. Creashes when loading anything or going into settings. Anyone care to confirm?
Which version?
The 1.0.0.2 version works fine, but the later builds still have botched control mapping and some cores refuse to work.
If you have root and know what you are doing, you can install the latest version of retroarch and copy the cores and get back 1.0.0.2 to paste them into it for access to things like Yabause.
