Hey everyone.
I'm having trouble finding where the wifi adapter settings are on the stock T-Mobile ROM for the Touch Pro 2.
Normally you go to Settings --> Connection Tab --> Configure Wireless Adapter settings, but it's not there. If I pick Wi Fi and click on Advanced, it gives me a bunch of technical info, but nothing is editable.
I used to be able to do this on the custom ROMs for the T-Mobile Wing - right now the Touch Pro 2 is getting an IP address via DHCP, but I don't want to do that as I want to specify a static address for the Touch Pro 2 when I flip on the Wi Fi.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Anyone know?
Again I have a workaround by using static DHCP on my router, but I'd like to know how to do this in WinMo. I get a feeling I'm just looking in the wrong places.
When you click advanced setting and the Wireless LAN window appears click change network and that should put you into the Configure Wireless Networks screen.
Or go to Start->Settings->Connections Tab->Wi-Fi->Wireless Networks->Network Adapter->Click the Broadcom 802.11 DHD Network Adapter->Use Specific IP address and type it in!
Thanks Kloc. You solved my issue too.
In case anyone runs into this, my original issue was posted here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=555068
It turns out that if you are using a static-IP setup, you need to pre-configure the Touch pro 2 with those settings before it connects to the Linksys Router with DD-WRT firmware. Unlike a laptop that will connect and say "limited connectivity" until you fill in the Static settings, the Touch Pro 2 will continually tell you the connection failed. So anyone that is using Static settings with DD-WRT firmware on a Linksys router, be sure to use Kloc's walk through before trying to connect to your router.
Thanks again Kloc.
I was having some issues connecting to mobile hotspot with galaxy tab 3 7.0 wifi. It would connect just fine to my home internet. And although it would show a strong signal connection to the hotspot running off my phone it would not connect to the internet.
I found this post online and I just thought I would share here with the community in case anyone else is having issues. This worked for me.
I take no credit for this, just wanted to share it.

I ve spent nearly 3 hours today and 4 hours last week trying to resolve this on my new S3. I was pretty flummoxed when the wifi signal seemed to drop off without any reason.
After much hunting, my initial hunch seems to be correct
a) Interference from other devices
b) Unable to get an IP address
c) I am just a layman when it comes to networking, but since all of my other devices at home the iPad, iPhone and my laptop seem to have no issues (my laptop occassionally has the same drop-off problem), I thought it's likely to be a phone issue rather than a router issue.
To resolve this I found another thread on the forum and I tried this, and Bingo! it worked.
Press these menu options on your phone: Settings > Wi-fi> (Choose your network by tapping on it for a few seconds) > Modify network config
Check "Show advanced options"
Choose IP Settings: "Static"
Enter these details
IP - 192.168.1.253 or 195.168.1.253
Gateway - 195.168.1.1 (I chose 192.168.1.1 since that's my router address)
NPL - 24
Netmask - 255.255.255.0 (I could not find this option)
DNS 1 - 8.8.4.4 or 8.8.8.8 (I had the latter by default and let it stay)
DNS 2 - 4.4.4.4
And save.
Presto! It just connected in a few milliseconds.
It may not be so simple for each phone, but it's certainly worthwhile to try.
Here is the link the forum thread, where I resolved it:
Good luck

cool.
I've some problem with wifi on galaxy tab 3 7.0 SM-T211 (JB 4.1.2)
When connect using hotspot laptop or tethering via other device, my wifi always scanning every 7s. make my battery run out.
I was trying use advance setting (static IP) but still same.
How to solved this problem?
instable wifi
Somehow the solution with a static ip works perfectly
I also assigned this ip in the router to the mac adress of the phone
Thanks raptorseye
Hello everyone!
I successfully manged to get a USB-Ethernet Dongle working on my note 2.
However I am experiencing a strange issue:
When I had first set up the ethernet functionality, everything was working fine.
(Most apps could Not access the internet though, but some such as browser or vlc-player could).
Some days passed by during which I did not use the ethernet functionality but accessed several wifi networks
Now the issue:
if I want to use ethernet at my home network again everything seems fine first.
I can connect via ethernet, retrieve an ip adress using "dhcpcd eth0" and even issue commands like "traceroute www .google. de"
The output of "ip addr show" and "ip route show" also indicates that eth0 interface was assigned a ip-adress and also the correct default gateway has been defined
however if I want to use the browser to browse the web no connection can be established...
same with VLC-Player.
so network commands via terminal work but there's no internet connection within apps.
The strange thing is:
if I now access my home network via wifi first, turn wifi off and use ethernet again everything works as expected (especially the browser is working again..?!)
I'm wondering what I'm missing here:
Do I miss something during setting up the ethernet interface?
note that I also set the "net.dns1" and "net.dns2" property for primary and secondary DNS Server...
But why is ethernet only working if I firstly connect to the same network via wifi?
I assume that while connecting to the network via wifi some additional properties are set.
I'd very appreciate any explanation/suggestion on this matter.
thanks in advance!
Regards!

There is something on these forums called "reverse tether" look it up, it has something that can fix this with IP tables and force the phone to think that it is connected to Wifi
Great, thank you!
I did not know about this possibility!
Especially the xposed module looks promising.
It might help to get more apps to reconize the active internet connection.
I'll give it a try!
however I still have no clue why the ethernet interface only seems to work correctly if I first connect the phone via wifi to the network.
The browser will recognize the connection when I do the following:
1.1>turn wifi on and connect to my network
1.2>turn wifi off again
2.1>connect the ethernet USB Dongle
2.2>set up eth0 interface
3>web browser works
Note that I only turn wifi on for step 1.1 and 1.2. When using the ethernet connection wifi is already turned off and the browser still works.
I read that the browser uses some low-level functionality and bypasses the Android framework which is why it can use network connections even though android "thinks" no network is available.
But if I skip the first 2 steps even the web browser won't work.
I think it's quite strange behavior which I cannot explain. Maybe a configuration problem which is solved when setting up a wifi connection prior?
Maybe I'll have to dig a bit deeper into how networking in android works.
Hi, can you share your settings and how did you managed to connect through ethernet? Which rom and kernel you used?

Hello!
I am using PhoeniX ROM v16.7 along with the AGNI PureStock Kernel v.3.9.3.
It is the kernel that enables the ethernet functionality.
However ethernet support depends on the chipset of the ethernet adapter you are going to use.
Mine has an ASIX AX88772 chipset. I am not sure what kind of chipsets are supported by this kernel.
If the kernel does not support your chipset you will have to compile the driver yourself and insert it as a kernel-module.
I cannot post any links (due to restrictions for new members) but you will find a lot about this topic if you search for: note 2 ethernet kernel module
I do not really understand what you mean by settings:
If you have ethernet up and running you can type in terminal:
Code:
netcfg
You will then see a list of all network interfaces along with the eth0 interface.
To set up the eth0 interface using dhcp you can issue:
Code:
dhcpcd eth0
For manual configuration you will need:
Code:
ifconfig eth0 IP_ADDRESS_YOU_WANT_TO_ASSINGN netmask YOUR_SUBNETMASK
route add default gateway IP_ADDRESS_OF_YOUR_GW dev eth0
setprop net.dns1 IP_OF_YOUR_DNS_SERVER
I am not sure if I do something wrong during configuration, because eth0 interface will only work in apps like the browser if I connect to my network via wifi first (see the my first posts for detailed explanation).
I can turn my wifi off afterwards and use ethernet instead but for configuration I need to start wifi first.
I am not sure why - I still could not figure out the problem...
Hello!
I'm having issues getting wifi/hotspot tethering to work when pointing the Note II toward a non-standard APN.
Current environment:
Note II devices on T-Mobile US. Provisioning on the T-Mobile side allows access to the B2B APN, as opposed to the standard fast/epc APN the device normally comes configured to access. Turning B2B APN provisioning on actually disables access to the standard fast.t-mobile.com APN for native data, and the PCWEB APN for tethered connections. On the B2B APN, data originating on the device itself works just fine, but devices tethered to the Note II are not able to access the internet.
Wi-Fi connected PC receives an IP address of 192.168.43.16 (standard setup from Samsung), so the device is firing up the hotspot and handing out DHCP addresses. Network trace from T-Mobile shows 192.168.43.16 as the source address of the session, rather than showing the carrier address being handed to the phone. In short, it looks like the native tethering application is failing to NAT the session when pointed at the b2b.tmobile.com APN.
This is a rooted device with a custom ROM, so I side-loaded the WiFi Tether application. After some tweaks, I got tethering to work using the following options:
Device Profile: Generic ICS/JB (wlan0)
Setup Method: Netd-Ndc (master)
Set Netd Max Client Cmd (checked)
Wireless driver reload (checked)
Wireless driver reload 2 (checked)
Enable routing-fix (checked)
So, is there a way to tweak the settings in the native tethering function on the device to get the NAT to behave properly? Customer does not want to push the .apk for WiFi tether out to the devices in the field as the application requires root access and configuration. Entire install base of devices is custom ROM, and SOTI managed. If there is a way to easily push the app and config out to the devices, and have a push button wifi tethering experience for the end users, I might be able to convince them to go that route.
Your thoughts are appreciated!
Hi rob,
There's a dedicated T-Mobile(US) Note 2 Thread. This is the international forum.
I hope I'm asking in the right forum, I'm stuck for an hour in something I thought will take 10 min.
I have fast LAN connection behind proxy using NTLM authentication which I am sharing via hotspot created using netsh and then sharing using ICS. It worked for me when LAN didn't have proxy.
netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid="NAME" key="PASSWORD" keyUsage=persistent
netsh wlan start hostednetwork
While my Note 2 (4.4_Rooted) is connecting immediately, apps and browser's unable to go online.
I have tried
1.giving the proxy in Wifi/proxy settings
2.giving localhost:8080 and localhost:3128 in Wifi/proxy settings
3.giving WiFi IP in Wifi/proxy settings
4.Tried the same 3 in ProxyDroid.
Also, in IPV4 properties, LAN has auto-assigned IP and auto-DNS. WiFi has fixed IP and DNS is empty.
Any ideas will be strongly appreciated.
