galaxy tab 3 7.0 wifi issues. - Galaxy Tab 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was having some issues connecting to mobile hotspot with galaxy tab 3 7.0 wifi. It would connect just fine to my home internet. And although it would show a strong signal connection to the hotspot running off my phone it would not connect to the internet.
I found this post online and I just thought I would share here with the community in case anyone else is having issues. This worked for me.
I take no credit for this, just wanted to share it.

I ve spent nearly 3 hours today and 4 hours last week trying to resolve this on my new S3. I was pretty flummoxed when the wifi signal seemed to drop off without any reason.
After much hunting, my initial hunch seems to be correct
a) Interference from other devices
b) Unable to get an IP address
c) I am just a layman when it comes to networking, but since all of my other devices at home the iPad, iPhone and my laptop seem to have no issues (my laptop occassionally has the same drop-off problem), I thought it's likely to be a phone issue rather than a router issue.
To resolve this I found another thread on the forum and I tried this, and Bingo! it worked.
Press these menu options on your phone: Settings > Wi-fi> (Choose your network by tapping on it for a few seconds) > Modify network config
Check "Show advanced options"
Choose IP Settings: "Static"
Enter these details
IP - 192.168.1.253 or 195.168.1.253
Gateway - 195.168.1.1 (I chose 192.168.1.1 since that's my router address)
NPL - 24
Netmask - 255.255.255.0 (I could not find this option)
DNS 1 - 8.8.4.4 or 8.8.8.8 (I had the latter by default and let it stay)
DNS 2 - 4.4.4.4
And save.
Presto! It just connected in a few milliseconds.
It may not be so simple for each phone, but it's certainly worthwhile to try.
Here is the link the forum thread, where I resolved it:
Good luck

cool.

I've some problem with wifi on galaxy tab 3 7.0 SM-T211 (JB 4.1.2)
When connect using hotspot laptop or tethering via other device, my wifi always scanning every 7s. make my battery run out.
I was trying use advance setting (static IP) but still same.
How to solved this problem?

instable wifi
Somehow the solution with a static ip works perfectly
I also assigned this ip in the router to the mac adress of the phone

XDA IIs Wifi and lockups

Does anyone have a problem with their wifi locking up their xda iis? I have bought a linksys router and am getting frequent lockups when using wifi. I am using the shipped O2 rom, thanks
I have no problem at all with Netgear router. Try changing the connection speed setting in the router to the "b" mode only. Hopefully this can solve your problem.
No problems here either I'm afraid. I'm using a Draytek Vigor 2600VG at home and at work there are two of us with XDA IIs using a Linksys BEFDSR41W wireless router and no problems there either.
Sorry! :-(
Try a hard reset (gulp!) and see if you still have problems (Without anything else installed that might be inteferring) otherwise might be a faulty unit perhaps.
--Neil
I second what xanth said, I had the problem where wifi would not turn on, so I hard reset and installed each software back individually the problem was Calligrapher 7.3 did not like being in Storage or Storage Card only in Main memory (go figure)

I use the XDA IIs on a variety of wireless networks and experience problems with an alarming regularity. The most annoying is the fact that the top bar seems to loose functionality, when using wireless!!
I will actually add that I do seem to have problem with the "range" of WiFi.
I need to do more testing, but it doesn't seem to be more than 20m or so before have communication issues/timing out :-( Will have to find out what our walls are made of!!!
I have problems connecting sometimes. I regularly use three routers, Draytek, Buffalo and Belkin. The only time that it locks up is when using skype. The skype problem is a known issue with no cure.

I am having a problem where my Siemens SX66 will loose connection to my Microsoft MN700 wireless AP on occasion. -It simply appears as if the Wifi radio shuts itself off.
Weird.....
Wifi has never worked for me. It simply doesn't work in the way nature intended.
The main problem (as far as I can tell) seems to be that it cannot get DNS or IP configuration settings from my router (Belkin 7630) automatically.
It can connect to my wireless network without any hassle, but that's about it. If I enter DNS and IP settings manually it works fine. But this is unworkable if you want to connect to another wireless network.
If I can't sort this out by next week I'm going to sell the unit on eBay. It's been nothing but a pain since I mistakenly bought it in December.
Wifi is a nightmare on this device! I'm going back to Nokia.
I am going to do a hard reset and test to see if i still get any freezes. Anyone know of any software i can use to backup my text messages?

Hi guys,
Haven't had too many issues with WiFi over here - standard O2 Asia ROM (with the BT 3500 update).
I'm running a Netgear WG602 @ home with 64bit WEP and a Dlink AP2100 @ work with WPA-PSK. No connectivity problems at either location, both DHCP. It does however take a few minutes to connect, but this is on the odd occasion.
The only frustrating thing with the WiFi is that I have to soft-reset often to turn Wi-Fi on - any ideas? Hopefully O2 will fix this in the next ROM. Other than that, I've had the Nokia 9500, P900/800 and this is by far the best device for the power user.
Just me 2c!
Cheers

Wifi is on all the time on my device, sometimes when I switch the device on while within range of an AP it does not connect. Often switching wifi off and then onn again causes it to connect. If this does not work then I can often go into the network dialogue section, and see the network marked as 'availble' but not connected (why it sometimes does not auto connect I dont know). Tapping connect usually cures. If that does not work then I too need to soft reset.
I hope like you that they fix this cause its damned anoying. I will be interested to see what the Benq P50 is like when its released. I shall get one from expansys to test and ship it back within the 7 days.

As for those having problems with specific access points. It is not nessesarily the fault of the blue angel. It seems to me that none of the manufacturers of wireless kit understand the term 'standard' they all seem to have their own take on it, which is why kit from different manufacturers refuses to talk to each other. I am of the opinion that they do it in purpose to lock you into using their client cards with their AP's !!
Try it with some non Belkin kit and see what happens.
Nigel
Well i tried a hard reset and didnt install any apps and tried connecting to wifi again and still got a lockup and loss of connectivity. Im going to swap the router for another make and see what happens
Swapped my linksys router for a D-Link and so far no problems after 2 days. so looks like my problem was my router.

XDA IIi and wifi
I just bought one of these and can't get it connected. I have a netgear wg602 access point. When I finally figured out how to set the IP manually (the 02 xda tech support said it can't be done - maybe they're right ;-)
I now have it saying it's connected, with right IP address. My DNS and gateway are set up for the wireless adapter in network adapters. The signal is average. The XDA says wifi is connected. The access point even says it's authenticated and associated - same as my other stations.
Only problem is, internet explorer doesn't find any web pages - says "The page you are looking for cannot be found" (works fine through GPRS)
Also, terminal services times out trying to connect to an internal IP address (to eliminate DNS as a problem)
So, anyone know how I troubleshoot network problems - it looks like a TCP/IP issue? Can't find ping or arp etc. I've also tried an IP address that I know works on the network.
thanks for any help
Dave
Hi
For ping, ipconfig and stuff, head to http://www.cam.com/windowsce.html
I have had multiple issues trying to get wifi working reliably. It still fails now, but there are a few tricks to get it working again. Most of my wifi issues have been due to regular use of three AP's [email protected] and [email protected] along with GPRS and VPN.
To start with I suggest setting all the ****e in connections (internet and home network to 'My ISP' then goto your wifi setup, network adapters, and tell it that the wireless card connects to the internet. Now, tap ok, and goto tools, network cards, tap the active connection (it must already be connected) and ensure that its set to internet.
Next soft reset the thing, and wait for it to connect to yr wifi. Now, use the ipconfig tool and ping tool from the above site to check that all is OK. Check that its got the default gateway right and a sensible LAN IP.
I have found on occasion that I can be connected via wifi, but that the device is still trying to talk using an old IP allocated by gprs which means nothing to my lan! IPconfig will show if all is OK.
Whoever wrote the whole of the networking system (and its terrible gui's) on windows mobile wants shooting. I usually have 2 VPN profiles setup under my work network. If I leave it set to that, and use wifi from my lan to connect to the internet all is fine. However if I try and access a local server, the damned thing starts trying to connect a vpn (it aint inteligent enough to work out that the IP I asked it to connect to is local).
I have been trying to find a setting for all this networking rubbish that allows me to do *everything* without reconfiguring each time - to no avail.
Another thing to note is that you cant send/receive MMS messages while wifi is connected (more stupidity), it tries to connect to the MMS server using the wifi connection, and the telco blocks it cause it wants to charge you for sending MMS over GPRS. Only solution is to disconnect wifi, send MMS then reconnect wifi!!!
Nigel
No problems with WiFi for me
Hmm I'm using an O2 Asia Rom as well.. and my wifi manager seems to automatically create "settings" for each AP it detects and I seem to have no problems connecting at all... been using WiFi around my house since the first day i got it..
i am using a Linksys Wireless 802.11b router..
btw I am new here.. finally able to register!
How's everybody doing?
Cannot turn off IEEE 802.1x
Has anyone had problems unchecking the 'IEEE 802.1x netwrok access control' checkbox???
I uncheck it, but then when I go back to the screen (click on the connection | then select 802.1x tab at the bottom) it has checked itself again!
The XDA IIs does not save the setting - it just keeps re checking itself 02 help have been no use - they sent me an instruction manual and it even says in one of the step 'uncheck IEEE check box'
Im am using a netgear wirelesss router and have also tried on a d-link
Sugestions - is anyone else having this problem??

Unable to connect Wireless Lan when phone signal is weak?

Hi,
I'm experiencing a weird problem and please let me know if it's only my problem or there is some work around for it.
My phone is SX66 upgraded to 1.40 ROM + 1.13 Radio stack
I can connect Wifi fine whenever I have some phone signal (at work). Whenever I go home where the phone signal is weak then the WIFI couldn't get connected (I believe I set up my home network correctly as I've been using it for so long and configure it for several computer/laptop in house). The network could detect the AP with the SSID but I just couldn't connect to it even I'm sitting right next to the AP.
ROM 1.40
Radio: 1.13

Are you sure it isn't connecting? What has led you to this conclusion?
Is it possible that it is connecting, but that you just can't browse the internet, in which case check your connection proxy settings. If your work uses a proxy server and you've enabled the pass-through setting in ActiveSync, your network connection may be configured with your work proxy server.
If you're sure you're just not connecting however, things to check are;
WEP/WPA Encryption - If you're using it and have other wireless devices on your network, you no doubt know what to do. If not, say so & I can help you.
DHCP - Does your router/AP support Auto-IP Addressing? Is it enabled? If not, you'll have to configure the WiFi card with a static IP within the same subnet as your router. Ask if you need help.
MAC Filtering - Are you blocking unauthorised MAC Addresses (on your router/ap)?
Interference - Wireless A/V Senders and digital cordless phones are common culprits for RFI. 802.11x APs support multiple channels (most default to channel 11), and you can change these in case of interference. Once again, if you have other WiFi gear already connected with good, strong signals, you can probably discount this one.
Sorry if this is all elementary to you - I don't know how technical you are.
Thanks for your reply.
> Are you sure it isn't connecting? What has led you to this conclusion?
Yes, I've check wireless status on the phone. "Connected to the network", and the AP with DHCP on showed the status of an IP has been allocate to the SX66 mac address. However I dont' really believe it then I check the "Adater", it said network available, and the WIFI icon just didnot show any traffic.
> Is it possible that it is connecting, but that you just can't browse the internet, in which case check your connection proxy settings. If your work uses a proxy server and you've enabled the pass-through setting in ActiveSync, your network connection may be configured with your work proxy server.
I've experience once with the internet connection via Active Sync so I disable the passthrough. Both home and work doesn't have proxy server so I selected not to have any on the phone.
> WEP/WPA Encryption - If you're using it and have other wireless devices on your network, you no doubt know what to do. If not, say so & I can help you.
At work, I have 128 WEP and the connection works fine with the key. At home, I open my network but using MAC filtering to protect it. I have problem with the open network one at home. Perhaps, I will try to setup WEP at home and see if it can work.
The only thing I'm not really clear is the difference between setting "WPA" and "WPA-PSK" from the phone.
> DHCP - Does your router/AP support Auto-IP Addressing? Is it enabled? If not, you'll have to configure the WiFi card with a static IP within the same subnet as your router. Ask if you need help.
Yes, DHCP enable as I don't want to change it back and forth when traveling.
> MAC Filtering - Are you blocking unauthorised MAC Addresses (on your router/ap)?
I do it and I already opened the network and then captured the MAC address into the AP memory. (that's why I think it's connected but will check).
> Interference -
Not really, I'm 6' away from the AP and I don't have any cordless device in my computer room.
> Sorry if this is all elementary to you - I don't know how technical you
are.
No problem, I'd like to learn more about this PDA. The concept is about the same with PC, but the tools to debug is not there. I can't use tracert/traceroute, ifconfig or ping broadcast to really know if I'm the network.
Once again, thanks a lot.
Okay, well it sounds like you're on the right track & know what you're doing.
A useful troubleshooting tool, which gives you tracert, ping, whios, ipconfig and a host of other tools is "vxUtil", which is freeware. I'd give you a URL for downloading it, but I'm on my iMate now (sipping coffee by the Yarra in a Melbourne Cafe - oh what a techno-wanker am I!), but search these forums or Google it and you'll find it.
Now, regarding the proxy thing... These PPCs are a little tricky with their internet settings, and I had to create a different 'connect using...' connection profile, if that makes sense. The important setting within the profile, which is under the Proxy tab, from memory, is "This network connects to the internet".
Now for some reason, if you don't enter in a proxy server here, that check-box doesn't stay checked when you ok your way out. So what I've had to do is go into the advanced area & enter anything in the "wap" proxy, then ok out.
Strange, but it seems to work. Although I always leave my "Private network" on "My Work Network", I can now browse the 'Net through the WiFi AP/Router.
Download vxUtil & see if you can ping your AP, then go from there.
I've worked around the problem by using static IP address instead of depending on DHCP. Thanks to Hitchhiker software. I noticed that it was trying to obtain IP address from DHCP but failed. (The very same DHCP work wells for the rest of my network). Anyway, I will use Hitchhiker to switch IP back and forth if necessary.
Thanks a lot!

Great to hear you found the problem - well done.

having wifi issues

been having trouble with wifi connecting. It was working fine... i decided to give a different rom a try (express 3.61 landscape). i couldnt get wifi to work and there were a couple things i didnt really care for, so i switched back to my energy 2/6/12 with anthrax kernel and still not connecting to wifi... well thats only partially true. I have a linksys WRT54GS2 router and i use CISCO NETWORK MAGIC to manage/monitor my network. When i try to disable the network lock to add my phone back in it just keeps searching and never finds it, but my phone will be connected to my network. As soon as I cancel the scan it drops the wifi connection. I even tried using WPS with no luck. Do you think it has something to do with updating my PRL and profile while on the Express rom? this is really annoying me.
UPDATE: I've been playing around in my routers configuration utility and i got this figured out. I jsut couldnt do it with in Network Magic. Ill post my steps incase anyone had this same issue:
1. open web browser on pc enter you address to get into your router(this is usually 192.168.1.1 on linksys routers)
2. leave the user name blank and type admin in the PW section(unless you changed it when you did setup)
3. Go to the "wireless" tab
4. Then goto "wireless MAC filter" subtab
5. click edit mac filter list button
6. get your phones mac address( menu\settings\about phone\hardware information
7. enter phones mac address into an open slot then click save settings at the bottom of the page. then save the changes in the router setup.
It may vary some for different routers but this worked for me... WHAT A PITA!

[Q] Note 8.0 weird WiFI problem...

Hello,
I recently purchased the Note 8.0 and I'm experiencing a weird problem with the internet connection. I can connect to my wireless network, I can access other devices on the LAN, but I cannot access the Internet or ping the gateway (I can however ping other hosts on the LAN). I know it's not the tablet as I've tried it at work and I also tried running my S4 as a hot-spot and internet works as it should. The S4 works without a problem on my wireless at home as do a few laptops.
At this point, I'd say, it is obvious that it's something with my cable modem/router, but if possible I'd like to figure out what the problem is.
I found a post somewhere that had a similar problem, where the device in question was receiving the wrong MAC for the gateway, but this is not the case here as my tablet does not even receive a MAC for the gateway.
Output from the tablet:
android:/ $ ip neigh
<some IPv6 address> dev wlan0 lladdr <Gateway MAC> router STALE
192.168.0.1(gateway) dev wlan0 FAILED
192.168.0.5 dev wlan0 lladdr <Server MAC> reachable
Output from the S4:
android:/ $ ip neigh
<same IPv6 as above> dev wlan0 lladdr <Gatewawy MAC> router STALE
192.168.0.1 dev wlan0 lladdr <Gatweay MAC> reachable
192.168.0.5 dev wlan0 lladdr <Server MAC> reachable
I've tried resetting the modem back to factory defaults, removing/changing encryption type. I did not wipe the tablet as I've had the issue from day 1.
The only way I'm able to get the tablet to sort of connect to the internet is to assign a static IP to it, however that only works for a few mins and is very intermittent.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Any way to figure out why the tablet won't get the MAC for the gateway?
My cable modem/router is an Arris DG860, but unfortunately, there's very little info on it and I couldn't find a firmware upgrade for it. What's also interesting is that the tablet does not show up in the DHCP client list of the modem, however it gets an IP, connects and communicates with other hosts.
Thank you for your help
What IP is the Note 8 ending up with? If somehow it is outside the range of what it should be I would wonder if it is just giving itself an IP when it fails to receive one from the DHCP server (ie, your router). I know that Windows computers will do that as a fallback.
Can you check your router to see if perhaps the DHCP pool is too small? If that were the problem then it might not be allocating another IP because there aren't any left (based on it's current config). In which case you can just make the number of allowable IPs to be larger.
There may be other possibilities too. The above are just what is coming to mind at the moment.
It is a valid IP as I have access to other devices on the network, but to answer your question it gets 192.168.0.13 with a mask of 255.255.255.0. I wanted to try forcing the private network to work on IPv6, but haven't been able to figure it out yet.
The tablet gets the right MAC for the server and communicates with it, which leads me to believe that the router (gateway) isn't responding to ARP requests from the Note. I have some access to the router's CLI but it's not very helpful and I have no idea how to troubleshoot it on the Note..

That is bizarre. Can you ping the gateway from other devices on the network? Can other devices on the network ping or otherwise see or access the Note 8? It seems like the Note 8 doesn't exist to the gateway, and so I'm wondering if it also doesn't exist to anything else on the network. It is possible (though I'm just guessing here) that the Note 8 is giving itself an IP address that it determines as being appropriate based on the other devices it can see. Given that it doesn't show up in the DHCP table on the gateway I can't really see how it is getting an IP unless it is assigning it to itself. Another thought is to check the IP addresses of all the other devices currently on the network in case somehow you're having an IP address conflict (ie, two separate devices ending up with the same IP somehow, which can happen temporarily in the case of a device having an IP and then being hibernated, during which another device is given the same IP, and then later the first device is resumed from hibernation).
If you don't receive much further help here on the XDA forums I'd suggest starting a thread over on the SmallNetBuilder Forums as there's lots of knowledgeable folks there that can help with networking things like this.
As for me, I've got to sign off for the night. Best wishes to you as you troubleshoot!
Hi and thanks for the reply.
Yes the gateway is pingable from other devices, so is the Note. I also tried changing the 192.168.0.xxx to 10.10.0.xxx with no luck. The Note received the 10. from the DHCP server, but the gateway still would not respond.
I think it might have something to do with the routing on the modem, the hosts on the network can communicate at layer 2 (no routing need) while everything on the outside needs to be router. Still does not explain why the gateway doesn't respond to the Note though...
Have you done a traceroute to another local device to see the path its taking?
You will need to have root and I think busybox. You will also need to su before doing traceroute... maybe there is an app that can a trace if your not rooted!

Is the router still left with it's default settings? Also, Is there a page in the router/modem's web gui for DHCP and if so, what are those settings? It sounds to me like the DHCP is failing to pass along the external GW and/or DNS servers. To test a theory, are you able to ping 8.8.8.8?
I wonder if this was solved? I'm having the exact same problem minus all the technical knowledge. Tech support at time Warner seem like they are reading a script. Has anyone found a fix or workaround for this modem? My note works everywhere but home
I might have narrowed down the issue...
On technical support last night it was resolved that the Note was looking for IP version 6 ip and the time warner box only outputs IP version 4...
Is there a way to have the note look for IP version 4??? I know nothing about this but I guess over this next year we are supposed to be switching to IP version 6?
I unpacked my note 8 yesterday and I experience an issue when connected to wifi. When I tried to download something from play store it taked too times and usually downloads remained blocked at 70/90% and this didn't happen in 3G. So I tried a factory reset and now all thing works great you could try..

Factory reset doesnt do it for me.
My wifi works everywhere but at home using Time Warner on the Arris DG860 modem. I think the OP and my problem are because of a combo of these factors.
I believe it has to do with the IP change that is taking place this year.
If you look up online it seems to be kind of a big change. You can type ... time warner ip version 6... into google and see a link that explains it. I cant link for some reason.
I wish someone could confirm this, but does the note 8 only accept IP version 6? Time Warner will only deliver version 4 to me right now through this modem, and the tablet is making a version 6 IP.
Atleast thats where ive made it so far.
I can confirm that I have the same problem at my In-Laws house. Arris router, and Charter network in Louisville. Likely the same as Time Warner folks.
But I think the Arris router is the more likely culprit. I didnt feel comfortable asking the FIL to let me kack around in his router
I have the same problem on my main wifi at the house. It's a 2.4/5 ghz setup. My guest wifi is just normal 2.4 different router etc. I'm going to need to look into this at length as this just isn't going to do. Also as far as IP6 is concerned we won't see that roll out Internet wise for at least another 2 years fully. When it does go full steam all of the IP4 routers APs will have to be either replaced or firmware upgraded if the internal radios will even support IP6. Most likely 70% won't and that's the reason you don't see a lot of IP6 routers etc. We have them on the enterprise side but most are not in use. I will report back when I have anything useful.

OK figured it out and it includes a bit of funny.
I went through my network setup and forgot that I had
MAC filtering on so I added the Note along with a face palm thinking
That was it, couldn't have been that easy right... No it wasn't but good
News.
The note 8 doesn't like the 20/40 "channel width" or some routers call it "wideband" in the routers or in my case access points. Turn that to 20 only and boom there you go. Wifi
Works perfect. You will find it typically under advanced settings.

The Note 8 supports both 4 and 6. The issues described sound a lot like config issues on the modem or router. as stated before, sounds like an issue with the DHCP server (the thing that provides ips to the devices.)

Hmmm I have an ipad, note 2, ps3, laptop, gfs iphone all connecting just fine... hours and hours of tech support, and the best answer is incompatability. For some reason the note is only creating ip6 my isp only does 4. I understand the note is capabale of both, but in this specific instance there is a bug in the note with this router.
nothing to do with settings. If every other device I own connects without hassle then someone needs to fix the note 8. Christ my note 2 connects....
there were no options untouched by highest level tech person fromisp... its the note 8
Arris DG860 and Note 8 *Workaround*
Ok, just got done trouble shooting a customers Note 8 on working behind one of our DG860 modem/routers, what I was seeing was the Note 8 was showing up with an IPv6 address even if I had the IPv6 DHCP turned off. What I found works is if you go into LAN > DHCP on the DG860 and create a "Fixed DHCP Client" using the Notes MAC address and some address in the IPv4 range like 192.168.0.X it will force it to pull that instead of the IPv6 address and work. Hope this helps anyone running into this weird combination.
At wits end
I been having nothing but issues connecting my wifi only note 8 to the internet at my house. Everywhere else it works fine but at home nothing but issues and all other devices are connecting with no problems. I have tried it with a netgear router, and now a arris gateway and still cannot connect. The cable tech came out by chance and was checking my connections and could not figure out why it would not connect either. I have time warner if that makes a difference which I am starting to wonder it does seeing how I can connect everywhere else and have tried two different ways to connect at home.
Update: So after being on the phone with time warner, samsung, and live chat with Arris this is just one hot mess. Samsung is stating that there seems to be firmware issues with arris gateways which I have noticed many people posting problems with their arris products, and their resolution was to roll back the software. Time Warner is stating that they cannot roll back the software on the modems and was trying to blame it on my tablet, though it was working before I setup the gateway and it works on other routers even on a piece of crap belkin that likes to kick off everything it worked on that with no issues. Arris told me that they have no control over the software only the cable companies do, so in typical fashion a lot of passing the buck and finger pointing. I am just irate at the moment for I do not have a working tablet at home. Part of me thinks it is the android 4.2.2 as well, for I had 4.2.2 on my droid razr hd and had numerous wifi issues with it.
Update 2: After doing some more research I have found there seems to be a issue with the wifi card and the chipset with arris gateways so there is a compatibility issue with the card. I had my netgear hooked up to it before and didn't have issues so I am going to just use my netgear and run the gateway in bridge mode it should fix the issue.

[TIP] Wifi connected but no internet connection!

At some points in your life, one of your Android devices connect to a wifi router, but can't connect to the internet. However, your computer, laptop or iPad will connect to that same wifi and use the internet just fine. I've looked everywhere on the internet for solutions, some of them are:
+ Turn off and on both modem and wifi router
+ Factory reset wifi router
+ Battery pull your phone, wait 30s and put it back
+ Reflash stock or custom ROM
+ Change DHCP IP setting to Static
+ Disable security (WEP, WPA) on wifi router
+ Check DNS server, gateway IP address for correctness
Fortunately, I stumbled upon this old thread last night -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1371794
It helped fix the internet connection temporarily, turning off and on wifi on phone caused the issue to repeat.
In summary, he found out the correct MAC address for gateway was mismatched with the one on his phone. Even though the gateway IP address is correct (example: default gateway IP 192.168.1.1)
Upon further investigations, I found out my Wifi ROUTER has the same IP address with my MODEM (192.168.1.1) This IP conflict causes the phone to recognized the WIFI ROUTER's MAC address as the gateway's MAC address. This problem mostly occurs on Android phone, not computer (I'm no tech savvy so I have no idea why)
Simple fix: Go to wifi router setting page, change the IP address on wifi router to different number (other than default 192.168.1.1), and the problem should be fixed.
Please help spread the words to fellow Android lovers, I'm sure a lot of us have struggled with this problem
I'm one guy who is desperately looking for a solution to this.
Unfortunately the solution you gave didn't work.
Hi
i have a problem with wifi. it remains connected but loses internet access randomly. i found this solution:
"In the wifi networks, select the network you want and select ‘Forget network’
Turn off the wifi
kill all the apps with your task manager
Turn on the wifi again
Connect to the network
Check the internet connectivity
If still the problem exist, switch off the phone and redo the above steps"
it solves the problem, but it happens again after some minutes. actually, i also installed an app named "wifi fixer" which does the above process automatically. when the program is active, it turns the wifi off and on every 2-3 minutes. and the phone has internet access when the program tuns the wifi on.
any idea?
Turn off wifi optimization on some android phones help.

2 years after the last reply I am having the same problem. My wife and kids all have internet access on their phones, tablets, desktop and laptops all from the same modem router yet I am unable to use the internet on my Galaxy S2 mobile phone even though my phone says connected to Wi-Fi Network Netgear 06.
The Mac address solution provided isn't applicable to my situation as my Mac address on my mobile is different to my modem router Mac address.
Any other solution?
