I am asking this for a friend, personally i don't know too much about the Fire. So anyway, will a micro usb memory stick work with the fire?
Here is an example of what i am asking about: http://www.amazon.com/Kingston-32GB-Traveler-MicroDuo-DTDUO/dp/B00IRUS7KU/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1406291920&sr=1-2&keywords=micro+usb+thumb+drive&dpPl=1
Kindle fire does not support USB host mode, used to connect to USB devices.

Hey guys.
i have this question. Is there such a way to transfer, let's say, from a card reader to an external hard drive using the Kindle Fire /or any android device/?
i need this so i can use the tablet to transfer material on the go instead of taking a laptop.
I assume both have usb attachments?
If so, you will need an OTG cable, a powered usb hub, and Chainfire's stickmount. You can use that to transfer stuff from your kindle to external devices. I think this answered your question, but I was having trouble understanding it. If this is not what you were asking, please rephrase your question.

this looks promising. thank you for the information. The hub was the thing i was looking for.
My need is this: when i need to transfer files (video, audio) on the go - i'd like to plug in a card reader (if using a camera) and transfer from the card reader to an external usb hdd. all i want is to use the kindle for this procedure and not carry a laptop around.
Hi guys,
Wanted to ask you guys, Is there ANY way i could connect a 3G USB stick to my kindle fire HD
It could be possible with a OTG cable and a ROM that supports OTG, but the actual 3G dongle might require drivers that work on Windows, Mac or Linux, but not on Android. So I couldn't say for sure. I'm not sure if it's been done before either.
Hello everyone! I'm new here, thanks for your attention about my topic.
I've just bought an USB OTG (On-the-Go) cable. I connected the Kindle Fire with a wireless mouse and a keyboard via USB OTG cable but nothing happened.
I tried Hashcode 4.2.2 Stock ROM, CyanogenMod 10.1 Stable and even gedeROM 1.7 (CM9) but my effort is zero.
Please help me to find another way to make KIndle Fire works with mouse and keyboard.
Thanks a lot!
Try a powered hub.

Thanks Lotek! I'm going to buy a Powered USB Hub.
(The fact is I don't have a PC or laptop, so I want to make my KF becoming a mini Android computer, lol. )
I recently got a Firetv Stick. I tried loading Kodi on it but when I stream from my NAS, the stick buffers every few seconds. I tried changing "Video Cache Buffering" via the firetv utility app nothing changes. So I want to try something else.
Is there a USB hub out there that is powered enough to support the firetv stick AND I can plug my external HDD into that the stick will see?
USB drives cannot be used with the firetv stick.
All the OTG adapters I've seen seem to be USB 2.0. Is it worth buying usb 3.0 thumb drives to extend the internal memory? does the 4k Max firestick support usb 3 drives over its the micro usb port?
I tried following the OS v6 method of adding a external USB 3.0 (Intergral 512GB) device using 50/50 and a AUVIPAL OTG adapter
Looked like it worked successfully to me.
I've moved SmartTube and Kodi to the exeternal storage, but I found the apps to be very very sluggish.
However, I factory reset the Fire Stick and then plugged in the USB and followed the prompt on screen to use it as external drive, it formatted the drive and recognised it.
I installed Kodi and SmartTube and they run fine.
I've noticed that apps that have USB support take a bit of time to install (as they're installed on USB) but once they are installed, they generally seem to work fine.
So, to answer your question, I think the speed is limited to USB 2 even if you use a USB 3 drive
