Tips to Squeeze up to 200+ hours of Battery and 65% free RAM on Stock!
TMSxXDA said:
I made a lot of experiments trying to squeeze most of my LG G2 battery & RAM, and finally I reached those results by the below strategy (please note that this will be just strategy/tips, not detailed steps), and on ROOTED STOCK ROM It currently gives me:
Average Screen Off Discharging Speed 0.3-0.5%hour (so battery needs 200 hours to discharge, or more than a week!)
Average Screen On Discharging Speed Between 10%-20%hour (no Gaming) (so working hours about 8-7 hours)
Free RAM after full startup 65%.
(I gathered those statistics by setting Tasker to calculate them for me).
Battery Tips:
So to see almost a perfectly horizontal line of your battery discharge during your sleeping, you will need:
Rooted Stock ROM (I tried this on KitKat latest version).
Greenify.
Tasker
Your brain)) and some work.
OK to get most of the battery, do the following:
Remove all LG & Google Bloat ware; search XDA how to do that.
Disable all animations in you Settings-> Accessibility, this will save our battery and make apps faster.
Now all of the work should be done in Tasker, I assume that you already know how to work in this thing, if not search XDA there is a lot of tutorials...
Once your screen is off, do the following in Tasker:
Turn off the following : WIFI, Bluetooth, GPS, Auto Sync.
Greenify all bad behaving apps, after that use tasker to force close many of the bad behaved one (you should experiment with this).
Down Clock your CPU, for some reason my device reboots unless I set Governor to conservative or onDeman, so here we put it on conservative, with CPU clock between 300 and 652 MHz, there is no need to make it lower, because it gives no better battery life, and it makes wake up time longer.
Those steps are enough to make sure that you will lose about 0.5% per hour only! (my CPU needs about 5-10 minutes to enter deepsleep, this means that your battery drain during this time will more than 0.5%)
On screen ON, you need to immediately set back your CPU to onDemand mode, otherwise it will lag, actually I made 3 profiles for CPU, low (during screen of), medium (when screen on), and high (during gaming), so here I set the OnDemand with frequency 300-1190 MHz, and you will not notice any lag with those settings, also you need to set the maximum priority for the Tasker profile that will do this, well actually I made my own Lock Screen by Tasker screen so that tasker will stay foreground app and has best CPU priority, so swapping CPU profiles will be quite fast and you will see no Lag.
Also I set a periodic sync, when screen off each hour my phone wake ups and turning on wifi (or 3G if I’m out) and turning on AutoSync for couple minutes, and then turn all those things again to enter DeepSleep (step 1).
you need to make a good Screen brightness management in Tasker, there is tutorials on line for that.
Finally, during working, I set many specialized profiles for different apps I use a lot, for example, you don't need AutoSync when you are talking by phone, or reading a book, also when reading books, you don't need high CPU frequency, so I lowering it down, all this tweaks needs some work, but anyway you it will give you considerable battery gain, and you will see that the application that you really using a lot are not more than 10 apps.
I would like to note that I tried many ways to optimize this (except trying different ROMs) like playing with application's wake locks, but nothing worked as good as this strategy for me, if you have some more suggestions it will be great.
RAM Tips:
Many of us trying to make our phones customized and more beautiful, but after a lot of tries I found that all those things only making things worse, even for a monster like LG G2: I tried almost 99% of Launchers available on store, and all of them are very bad in scene of resource usage, for example the most beloved Go Launcher, having 200+ apps, and 3 pages of widgets, uses about 150 Mb. of RAM, this is too much, considering that android itself using about 200Mb. in worst scenarios, even the launchers that claims to be very efficient like Lightning & ssLauncher, that is not true, because once you install them, they indeed use too little at the beginning, but once you customize them and will add widgets, objects to them, they will jump up to 100Mb., well this still is better anyway than Go Launcher.
So to be short, the best one in terms of memory usage, is definitely, and without any competition, is Smart Launcher, it seems that it has a unique possibility to draw/load the widgets on demand (you can add them on special pages) and once you go back to main screen, it will free up used memory in minutes, that's really great, because this launcher on average uses only 50Mb. whatever the widgets you use!!
Also I would like to note that most Lock screens are very memory hungry, I tried lot of them, and none of them used less than 40Mb.!! so it almost like a second launcher! even the best of them like widget Locker or C-Locker! that why I made my own by Tasker itself, but note that after designing a scene in Tasker, it will use a lot of memory (70-80Mb.), and for some reason doesn’t free it unless you restart Tasker, and fortunately after that it will use not more than 20-30Mb. even when the scene is visible! so considering other things Tasker is doing, it's pretty low! so I highly recommend this.
Also any programs like recent app's viewers, side bars, screen buttons etc.. are also very memory hungry, I tried a lot and none of them really efficient, don't dream to get one with less of 50Mb. usage! so it's better, in my tests, "on screen buttons" are the best one with about 10-15 Mb. usage in case you don't like the navigation bar as me))
Well those tips allowed me to have very long battery usage, and about 50-60% free RAM, and without animations, makes my phone LG G2 fast like a Hell even with lots of apps installed, hope this was helpful.
Cheers!

## FAQ Updated
v3.0 universal(15/OCT/11)
Initial Universal Release
FAQ:
Do I need to or will it Wipe Data ?
NO, it can be installed easily on your stock/custom MIUI Rom.
I have to place some icons myself like Radio icon, blah blah blah..
As this MOD is developed on Vibrant. You may need to move your ass and do place 1-2 icons yourself wherever you like. Else send me one I9000.
What kernel are you using in this??
NO kernel included in this mod. It is always recommended to flash desired kernel before this MOD to ensure tweaks remain intact. Recommended to set max freq to 1000MHz for better battery life.
My icons seems misplaced?
This happens when internal update takes place. Place it back in respective folder.
My widget disappeared, what do I do next?
Nothing. Keep data connection on. And give a reboot.
It will appear. If not remove and re-add by long press.
The Live Wallpaper provided goes into half loaded state on each homescreen, what do I do?
Nothing, it will fix itself. However, if you want quick fix.. use Auto Killer and Kill all apps.
Is this available for or Can I use this for <some other> phone?
You can always try Universal Version.
I am not getting theme applied, no maps, no custom apps??
Definitely, you didnt followed STEP 4 of mounting data, datadata, system, sdcard.
I am getting <some weird> problem??
If you followed and read OP carefully. Be calmed, you did nothing wrong.
The problem you facing is most probably from source MIUI ROM. This MOD only intends to add more functionality.

Looks great, gonna try this soon...
Dude...There is one issue. Every time I reboot, something weird happens. For example, Icons are misplaced (out of the folder), settings are lost ( I have o manually write the port number for my network), city location for temperature on glass all-in-one widget is set to Mumbai automatically. Contacts have to be imported from SIM/SdCard.
This happens on every reboot. I don't know if its me or ppl are having the same issue.
Let me know if this is a common problem and what is that I might do to correct it?

Did you followed/tried "FIX PERMISSIONS" step ??
So far, no such issue occurred since v1.0 on Vibrant.
sweet aesthetics
Thank's my friend! Since yesterday am I using your mod, and everything works! The battery is great!
a dumb question
AngryGPS - Please run on first use of GPS -----> how do you run AngryGPS?
Edit: I like your mod but there is one problem I find so far with the Glass-all-in-one widget. Every after reboot, geolocation is turning off for the weather. I removed the widget and re-added it. Now every reboot it became transparent and I believe the widget is still running though. I like the widget but how to make it work? Can you please assist? Installed on an SGS i9000 if this makes a difference.
Thanks in advance.
I continue liking your mod. Two questions: the amount of installed apps will not end to reduce the battery life? And second: is there a way to add an extended power menu? Thank you again anyway...
@ neobuddy89 : Please, change the name of your mod ! It's a Rom name since august !

Thanks for the video. I see you are using v2.0 theme.
I will like to add that quadrant speed highly depends on kernel.
Also battery life depends on it, make sure your phone goes in deep sleep when you not using it. Check via CPU Spy app.
I installed this over Miui 1.10.14 and my videos are still laggy with flash player ...

battery drain
Hi dev...it seems that the mod tends to drain battery. I've tried installing this mod in fresh install and existing installation...either way..the mod tends to drain battery...the CPU runs at 800 mhz...any reason(s) why??!!
I installed it, and it looked beautiful. But yes, it just annihilated the battery and runs very poorly. Multiple attempts at fresh installs and not a single one works for very long. Maybe its a compatibility issue with Galnet MIUI?

I believe Galnet uses a custom framework which may be the reason why this mod tends to drain battery..
It has been some time since I posted on XDA. But I think it is finally time to post some of my ROMs here.

After a month or so on a ROM that was working good for me, I got bored and thought I'd flash this over the holidays.
Just finished and got it all set-up. Everything generally seems to be working OK. I'll report back on battery life later.
One issue I noticed right away is that the symbols key next to the spacebar on the keyboard doesn't display the symbols if you long press. I believe that has something to do with the inverted look. I think menu selections for several apps including Chrome are also affected.
Another minor issue (for me) is that I'm not a fan of the search icon being gone from the Play store. Having to choose it from the menu just seems like an extra step.
Finally, I'd love to see more settings options in the notification pulldown. GPS should be there for sure, but I'd also like to see Torch or flashlight as well.
If the battery seems OK, I may keep this for awhile and just deal with the keyboard issue and other missing menu selections.

I run it as ab option. It is not included
It definitely looks like it has a lot of potential and I really liked some of the features.
Unfortunately, it wouldn't wake up at some point so I re-flashed my old ROM.
More unfortunately, it looks like since Ad Free was baked in, it now won't let me reinstall Ad Free on another ROM. It must have made some changes somewhere and I get a message that Ad Free can't start because it looks like I have an old version. I uninstall, reinstall and get the same thing. Any ideas on how to fix would be appreciated. I really like using Ad Free.
I'd definitely be interested in trying your ROM again once the wrinkles get ironed out.

I am including leankernel with newer builds as Zen kernel is was not doing it for me... that should fix the reboot issue
And I do believe ut us an issue with Ad Free and not the ROM though I could be mistaken (all I have is the host file, there is no components). When I delete this host file is has no affect. App was last updated in May, soo hoping it is on their side.
New features or just a kernel swap!??

I was running Ad Free before flashing with no problem, but now when it tries to open it says something about a fatal error and an older version of Ad Free. I doubt it just stopped working on my phone on its own.

I am looking into this. I cannot see what it would not be working. We do include an ad-block host file, but no other components. And removinf the host file has no affect. I am trying to explore this.

Thank for the feedback. Did you do a dirty or clean install?
Is there a way without tibu to auto restore? The reason i ask is that the last rom was fantastic, fast, great battery. I got a good set up now, but alot of extra work to reinstall everything manually. I dont care for tibu. Thanks dude.

Intro:
This Rom is based on the new ZVC update, I have decided to put this rom together @ first because We did not have a full stock ZVC rom, but then it evolved to a stock rom for the performance oriented but with battery in mind users, who like me like to get more speed, performance and responsiveness out of this quad core beast that is the LG OPTIMUS G, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do... Well enough said, lets move on to goodies.

Change log:
V5.0
1-Fixed the rest of the size and padding issues with the LG G2 Launcher, there were little things here and there that needed to be addressed in terms of sizes of the home screen.
2-Added the numbers on the LG G2 keyboard, now the LG G2 keyboard is fully comparable with the Optimus g, enjoy!
3-Themed the contacts and phone dialer to resemble the LG G2 dialers, for a keyboard and dialer LG G2 experience.
4-Added 3g data improvements as well as browsing improvements, so your internet should be a little faster.
5- Added HPTesla OpTimuS Boot animation and Shutdown Animations, BonezMontana OpTimuS boot animation is in second post for those of you that prefer that one, again thanks to both of you for these contributions, they are both great!
6-Did some work on the Sysctl file for kernel, speed and response optimizations, this is gonna make the system even faster and smoother.
7-Added code lines to init.d folder for; Remount ext4, io, cleanning Junk files and to disable io stats to reduce heat thanks to kodos96 for the last one. This code lines will help with over all performance and speed
To install:
Wipe cache, dalvik and system, but please always remember the rule of thumb, if you run into any issues, don't go crazy just make sure you do a full wipe including data then flash this bad boy again, remember this is not supposed to give u issues if you wipe correctly, enjoy V5.0!
V4.9
1-Fixed the small apps in the drawer and widget sizes on LG G2 launcher
2-Did a lot of work and added more icons to the LG G2 LGHome_theme_Optimus, also padding, workspace and icon sizes have been optimized for our screen.
3-Added support to xhdpi to the LG G2 launcher, now the launcher is fully comparable with the lg optimus g, a lot of work went into this guys, enjoy.
4-Added the weather widget from the LG G pro, the weather widget from LG G2 wasn't updating properly
5-Added The OpTimuS boot animation (Thanks to BonezMontana)
6-Updated GravityBox
7-All color changes to the status bar through GravityBox are now working properly
8-All apps have been zipalign, signed and optimized for better ram and performance
5-Added the following themes:
DarkBlue (me)
BlueOptimusBlend (me)
Theme_Light (Venun)
Theme_Miuiv5 (Venum)
Theme_Love (Venum)
6-Some other changes here and there but I don't remember at this moment.
To Install:
Wipe cache, Dalvik and System, but remember if you encounter any issues do a full wipe before posting, enjoy V4.9!
V4.8
1-Fixed some parameters for the widgets in LG G2 Launcher, widgets should be aligned properly.
2-Added LG G2 Weather clock widget
3-Added task manager from LG G2
4-Cleanded up some codes here and there for less redundancy
5-Added couple of code lines to build.pro for better signal reception (hopefully)
Install:
Wipe cache, dalvik, system and flash this bad boy. I will continue to add LG G2 apps, Transparency works with Xpose's gravitybox We've lost a lot of hair over this feature but it was the launcher all along, Enjoy V4.8!
This new version of OpTimuS is called OpTimuS DE, the DE stands for Developers Edition, why you may ask, because of all the development put into this bad boy and because I like the fluency of the name:highfive:
V4.7
1-Added the LG G2 launcher with Optimus theme from LG G2, so you have all the wallpapers as well.
2-Added the LG G2 keyboard ( this keyboard has 3 themes in settings)
3-Added LG G2 gallery.
4-Added front camera tweaks from droidmk, thanks buddy.
5-Did some more work to thermald, now it throttles cpu better when cpu temperature is high.
6-Added OpTimuS butter script for launcher and system apps, this will make everything smoother.
7-Gave a little more speed to all transitions, this will make opening apps and window transitions better and smoother.
8-Updated viper4android, Xposed, gravitybox and some google apps.
V4.6
1-Removed the VDD file from init.d folder, this was the file in charge of undervolting the cpus, after further testing the cpus were acting a little unsync, so the file is removed for now.
2-Had to add some system file permissions to the init.qcom.post_boot.sh file for better cpus management.
3-One handed operations added to build.pro, I believed I added them on V4.5, but anyways is there for those that like that feature.
4-Did some more work to thermald-conf file to further better cpu tempeture.
5- Couple of little changes here and there, but I don't remember right now.
V4.5
1-Added Xposed framework (this will allow you to theme and modify the rom without having to flash stuff or modify apps. More info in second post)
2-Added GravityBox (this is a module for Xposed fremework that allows you to theme and move stuff in your status bar as well as adding power options and a lot more. More info in second post)
3-Cleaned up and added kernel codes to sysctl file to make system more responsive.
4-Added some code lines to buill.pro, for more system smothness and 3g speeds.
5-Activated gpu through init.d script to make gpu work for 2d operations, this will make any video related stuff a little better.
6-Did some work to the awake-sleep script in init.qcom.post_boot.sh file to make cpus behave better, this will help make cpu scale a lot better but staying performance and battery oriented.
7-Did some work on the thermald, I find that the way sprint makes companies add specifications for warranty sakes this hurts performance a lot by making files like thermald way too controlling to what is really needed, so I added lines to allow cpu and gpu work better.
8-Added a voltage control script to init.d to lower voltage by -50 across all frequencies, this will help with cpu heating and also help a little with battery.
9-Added crwolf camera and video commits, this will make our video and pictures way better.
10-All apps zipalinged and optimized.
Install:
Wipe cache, dalvik and system, but as usual if you encounter any issues, do a full wipe, I do full wipes with new builts just an fyi.
I put lot of work on making what is a great stock rom better, my beta testers did a great job as well so don't forget to thank them too. This version of OpTimuS is the best so far, enjoy and have fun!
V4.4
1-Removed all code pertaining to wifi, now wifi is stock, this should fix wifi issues across the board for everyone.
2-Cleaned up and added some cpu scripts to make it more compatible with Viper kernel, this should fix the soft reboots some are experiencing. This will also make Viper kernel more efficient for this rom.
3-Added sysctl scripts to make system a little more responsive but battery friendly, this will wake up the system faster.
4-Changed the signal icons in status bar, this one has 6 lines instead of 4.
5-Removed the google keyboard, now you gonna have the LG keyboard only, no need to select it.
6-Removed some sprint bloatware apps, this makes the rom smaller and cleaner.
7-Some other little changes but I don't remember right now, this version has been in testing for couple of days now.
Install:
Wipe cache, dalvik and system and flash, this should be sufficient, but follow the rule of thumb, if you feel or encounter any issues then do a full wipe. This is one of the cleanest version of OpTimuS which makes the system cleaner and more efficient as well as responsive, Performance and Battery oriented, enjoy V4.4!
V4.3
1-Integraded Viper kernel, this kernel has a some nice modifications for sound video and is oc up to 1836000mhz (the LG2 comes at 1728000mhz, just fyi)
2-Added some changes init.qcom.post_boot.sh OpTimuS cpu script to match kernel
3-Added init.d cpu1,2,3 max and min frequencies script to make sure cpus follow 384000mhz min and 1512000mhz max, since the kernel goes to 1836000mhz, these scripts will control cpus further to go up to1512000mhz max.
4-wifi should be fix for everyone, if you have issues make sure you reset your modem, but for me the changes made makes wifi the best I ever had with any phone, hopefully we all be good here.
5-Cleaned up build.pro for better performance.
6-There were some other minor tweaks, for system and responsiveness.
7-Removed some google apps to make zip a little smaller, this apps can be downloaded from the market anyways.
8-Lowered the voltage -50 to help with cpu heat, this might help with battery consumption as well.
9-Added built.pro with signal modded for better reception (thanks engine95)
V4.1
1- This is just and incremental update to add the velvet.apk(google search ui) I forgot to include it in V4, for those on V4, there is no need to download unless you wanna start fresh, or maybe to keep it in you sd, instead download the velvet.apk in second post, that will delete the googlequicksearch and install velvet so google search will work properly.
V4:
1-Cleaned up and added scripts in sysctl and init.d to reflect better and more battery oriented performance.
2- Added more code to build.pro for more stable system (lag, memory, cpu sleep, etc, thanks to Lenarox and pizza_dox. )
3- All apps have been zipaling and optimized.
4-Updated some google apps.
5-Changed default wallpaper
6-Added init.d scripts for better wifi and data reception.
7-There are more changes but I don't remember now.
8- I couldn't add the onehanded operation, I have to look deep into this, there are some changes that need to be done for this mod to work, so bear with me on this.
OpTimuS v3:
1-Added sysctl support with kernel scripts (this is to help with battery and performance)
2-Added mpdecision modded to wake cpu2 and cpu3 at max blazing speed (this is max 1512000mhz speed when system is in stress and more cpu power is needed) instead of min.
3-Added thermal stock optimized (this is to help with cpu heating) (thanks Adrivelazquez)
4-Added cpu0 sleep and awake script to init.qcom.post_boot.sh file to control cpu0 when screen is off (this is to help with battery by keeping cpu0 on check and @ 918000mhz max when screen off, instead of 1512000mhz)
5-Incorporated more init.d scripts without redundancy (this is for various uses, cpu, memory, cache cleaner to keep system clean, sd read ahead, memory, etc) do not use task manager apps, I do not recommended it
6-Fixed battery percentage in status bar.
7- Go to menu, system setting, developer options, find transition animation scale, change it to .5x if this gets to be too fast then leave it at 1x(this goes great along the extra boost in system performance)
8-Added ringtones and notifications from VectuS (thanks VeNuM)
9-Added screen sensitivity fix (thanks VeNuM)
10-Some other changes that I don't remember now....
11-To install, Do a full wipe this is necessary for all the changes to take full effect, there are cpu, mem, kernel optimizations that require to start fresh, again sorry guys but trust me full wipe is the way to go otherwise you might miss some of the new implementations, enjoy!
OpTimuS v2:
1-Added more updated ZVC kernel (thanks engine95-Evolutionmod)
2-Added new init.d scripts for better performance
3-Added build.pro scripts to minimize launcher withdraws
4-Added esfile explorer, so you have a root file explorer of the box
5-LG Keyboard is in the lenguages and keyboards settings, just press on the settings icon next to the keyboard to activate it.
6-Removed the systemUI with Qslide and added
OpTimuS_DE_V5.0
This are mods you can flash from recovery, the zips will wipe cache and dalvik for you, so just flash and enjoy!

Xposed framework thanks to rovo89, Gravitybox thanks to C3C076 and BonezMontana for introducing it to us.
Xposed framework gives you the ability of modifying and theming without the need to modify the apps in the rom, so it goes on top of the rom sort of speak, its very easy to use and there are tons of modules with all kinds of modifications, simply awesome!
To activate Xposed:
1-Find the Xposed installer app in your app drawer
2-Open it and go to framework
3- Choose Install/Update, the system will install the drivers and files needed
4-Go to modules and select gravity box
5-Reboot and enjoy! after reboot, find the gravity box app and start having fun!

Q&A for CyanogenMod/LineageOS for Celox Devices (Hercules & Skyrocket)
As requested I created a Q&A thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by me.
Before posting, please use the forum search and read through the discussion thread above for your device. If you can't find an answer, post it here, being sure to give as much information as possible (firmware version, steps to reproduce, logcat if available) so that you can get help.
Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: My device reboots when I receive or make a phone call. Why?

Q: Formatting my SD Card as Internal Storage doesn't work. How to fix it?
Goto Settings > Storage. Click on your external sdcard
Tap the Menu button in the top right and select Settings.
Then choose Format as internal. (This erases all the data on the sdcard so backup if necessary)
Once you click Erase & Format, the device will format your card.
The process may get stuck at 20% and timeout after about 2mins. If it does reboot into recovery after it times out.
In TWRP, select Wipe then Advanced Wipe. Select "MicroSD Card - Data" and click "Repair or Change File System".
Choose, "Change File System" and select FAT. Then swipe to change.
Reboot, then goto Settings > Storage. Your sdcard should appear as corrupted.
Continue and format as internal storage. It should then get past 20%. If it does, continue with the steps shown to you.

[FONT=Arial,Roboto,Helvetica Neue,Helvetica,Verdana,sans-serif]Frequently Asked Questions[/FONT]
Since this is a unified thread, I will use Celox to refer to both the Hercules and the Skyrocket. This was their planned codename for the LTE S2, and both use the celox-common branch in source code.
Q: How do I root my Celox? I flashed SuperSU, and my phone won't boot!
A: You don't need SuperSU. Root access is baked into the ROM.
Wipe everything and install the ROM without SuperSU. Now, in Developer options, set Root access to Apps and ADB. If you really, really, want SuperSU, install it from the Play Store and have it install it directly without recovery. (not confirmed working, but should work.)
Q: Do I install this like any other ROM? Why can't I install Gapps?
A: No. This is a virtually partitioned ROM, common in today's Celox ROMs. The different partition layout is necessary to take full advantage of your phone.
Q: Clean flash or dirty flash?
A: I always dirty flash. I never wipe unless I am switching ROMs. You may want to wipe, your choice.
Q: Virtual repartition? Whaaaaaat? Do I need a PIT file? Will this damage my device?
A: The classic issues with the S2 are:
Not having enough room to install apps
Being forced to use tiny Gapps packages
having waaaaaay too much internal sd card free space, even when you have a real SD card that you haven't filled up either.
Virtual repartitioning changes the way the system sees the partitions ("sections" of the 16GB of storage), making it similar to the 16GB Samsung Galaxy S3. This fixes all of those problems!
Here is what happens:
To make more room for apps and data, we made that SD card partition multitask as apps, data, and the internal SD card storage, emulated at /data/media/0, like modern devices. This will wipe those files on the internal SD card partition, though! You now get 11.2GB freely usable by the system.
Since Lollipop, ROMs have been increasing in size greatly. They even use a different installation method. Our measly 598MB /system partition, which couldn't even hold all of 4.1.2 TouchWiz, has been moved to what /data was before. That means 2GB for the ROM, Gapps (yes, you can even flash STOCK!), BusyBox, root stuff, extensions, you name it!
And that 598MB /system partition becomes /cache, because you can always have more cache!
No PIT is needed, and, if you flashed a PIT (like the one that gives you 6GB for data), flash it back to stock! You will end up with 7GB shared for the internal SD card and app data and 6GB for /system, which is ridiculous.
And the best part is: Nothing is damaged. It is 100% safe! It is just a renaming scheme, and you can always flash to stock in Odin.
Q: Which Gapps should I use?
A: Well, as always, it is your decision, so so as you wish. I personally use Nano, which I also recommend. However, you need to install keyboard_patch.zip (attached to this post) after a Full or smaller Gapps or you will get spammed by "Unfortunately, Android Keyboard (AOSP) has stopped.", making it impossible to set up your device.
Stock fixes this issue, but it also adds crapware that I bet you don't need, like Google Sheets, Google Maps, Google+, and especially Chrome.
Q: HALP!! I'm getting "Unfortunately, Android Keyboard (AOSP) has stopped.", I can't set up my phone, and I am about ready to throw this thing at the wall!!!!!1!
A: Calm down. Breathe. I know it is annoying and gives you headaches.
Just reboot into recovery (using the key combo), and flash keyboard_patch.zip, attached to this post.
Q: Whenever I browse the web in Chrome, my phone goes berserk! It slows down, shows me black screens then the lockscreen, etc.
A: Don't use Chrome. The stock browser is about as good and doesn't wreak havoc to our device. However, this is replaced when you flash a larger Gapps package. I recommend using Nano and installing what you want instead. Just wipe system, flash ROM, Nano, keyboard_patch.zip, and reboot. Alternatively, you can use Opera, which has everything Chrome has except Google account bookmark sync and bloat.
Q: I have one of the following issues:
Calls don't work. They reboot or say "Cellular network not available."
When I turn on my device, I don't have a data connection.
A: You flashed the wrong build. Flash anything after 20160126 and those issues are fixed!
Q: My battery life is bad.
A: Here are some general tips I use:
Turn data, WiFi, GPS and Bluetooth off when you are not using them.
Understand that lower signal = shorter battery life.
Settings > WiFi > Menu > Advanced > Keep WiFi on during sleep > Only when plugged in.
Settings > WiFi > Menu > Advanced > Always allow scanning > Off.
Black wallpaper = good.
Underclock/undervolt.
Lower brightness to the minimum you can see.
Enable the Power saver profile (currently not working on 2/16).
Install the blacked out // regression+ theme, which makes most things black. Pure black = good.
If you really want to stretch your battery life, you can do these extreme tweaks, however, they can affect the functionality of your phone.
Green-only mode. It looks pretty awesome and saves battery life. In terms of battery life, AMOLED screens get better battery life depending on the color displayed on the screen. Green > Red > Blue. Black uses almost no energy.
Set to blacked out // regression+
Black wallpaper
Brightness to 0%
Settings > Developer options > Simulate color space > Monochromacy. This makes it so you can (mostly) see non-green colors.
Settings > Display > LiveDisplay > Color calibration and set all but green to 0%.
Download [root] Naptime (with root enabled) and enable the Aggressive Doze mode. Your phone will be practically off (only the cell radio with data off is running) and you will not receive most notifications, sans phone calls, text messages, alarms, and seriously important notifications as soon as the screen turns off. This is also naturally enabled when you leave your phone unplugged and not moving for 30 minutes.
Hold down the power button and select "Power off". This is a feature that causes your phone to use absolutely no power, however, your phone will take about a minute or two to exit this mode and you will not receive any calls, notifications, texts, or anything and WiFi, mobile networks, Bluetooth, GPS and the CPU will be disabled during this mode.
Q: After 30 minutes of my phone's screen being off, WiFi turns off. I just can't seem to shake this bug!

That is called "Doze", it is a built-in feature added in Android to attempt to save battery. Jerry Hildenbrand did a good job explaining this at Android Central.
You can configure this using [root] Naptime, but it is a rather advanced tool.
Q: My keys stopped working! What did I do wrong?
A: Disable Sweep2wake in the "Advanced Settings" app. That tweak is cool, but not yet stable enough for daily use.
Q: How do I make things smaller?
A: Settings > Display & lights > LCD density.
Thankfully, they fixed the alignment bug, so you no longer need to edit your build.prop.
The larger the number, the larger things will be, and the smaller the device will identify as.
240 is the default. The 4.5 in (11.43 cm) device is recognized as a measly 3.89 in (9.87 cm). Friends don't let friends stay on 240 DPI.
Technically, the Celox has a DPI of 207, but apps work best with multiples of 20.
I personally recommend 200dpi, which makes the device identify as 4.66 in (11.85 cm). It is quite nice.
However, with a non-standard DPI (standards are 120, 160, 240, 320, 480, and 640), it can cause scaling issues like blurriness.
Q: Should I use EXT4 or F2FS?
A: I use F2FS. F2FS is safer for your data, writes faster, and is actually designed for flash memory (it is called Flash-Friendly File System), unlike EXT4, which is made for a hard drive. However, some people encountered issues with F2FS and the Play Store.
EXT4 is tried and true, and is still relevant.
Q: Why does my camera keep crashing?
A: In the Advanced Settings app, check "Force low-power flash".
Q: I get random reboots. I see the Samsung logo, then a black screen! Grr!
A: At the time of this writing, 1/26 (sometimes 1/27) is the most stable. Try flashing that.
Q: How do I remove the pesky # on the status bar?
A: Install this Xposed module, or it is also a part of this all-in-one tweakbox by the same developer.
Q: Are there any cool features in this ROM/Kernel?
A: Yes, there are more features in this than the usual CyanogenMod Celox kernel. Some features are still being worked on and are a bit unstable, but testing and fixing is welcome on our GitHub repo!

Q: Why can't I configure my CPU governors?
There was a bug in the 2/16 build that added governors, but they had issues with case-sensitivity. Flash 2/22 or newer and you get governors and configuration.
Q: When will we get an update?
A: Be patient! Or build it yourself. Don't forget that some people have lives, and some people don't have lives but still aren't going to constantly update.
I will update this with more questions and answers.
Please don't quote this whole thing. Just mention @Easy_as_Pi_3.14 and I should respond quickly. Or don't, I am subscribed to this thread and love to answer questions.

I have to differ with this point. As I have said many times in the main thread, my battery life has been awesome. I have a healthy battery. You have stated that your battery is nearly dead and that you jump through these hoops to get it to last.
I post this so that people who see this don't think that this rom is bad for battery life. It's not, if you have a healthy battery. Here are my current settings:
Screen always on Auto Brightness
Wifi Always on (even when connected to Data)
Sync is always on
NFC off
BT off
I use data about 25% of the time
When on Data I have location set to battery saving
I use the Balanced battery setting
I make all my calls through Hangouts
I have dozens of apps installed
I am using Rom V. 1/26 (dirty flashed)
My average battery life right now is about 24-36 hours with 1.5-2.5 hours of Screen on Time. And my battery charges from about 10% to full in about two hours. My best battery life so far has been about 49 hours with 1.25 hours of SOT before needing to recharge. My average Doze usage is about 1.5%/hour- this is without tinkering with Doze settings with an app.
This battery life is on par with newer devices.
edit. Here is a screenshot of my battery usage right now. Nearly two days and this is with about 1 hour of SOT

Well,
You had amazing signal 24/7. Damn you, T-Mobile!!!!! (I miss the days of the you-step-indoors-and-you-lose-signal and AT&T users laugh)
1 hour of SOT. Try this: Marathon it. Do a YouTube playlist. Go on a Google Search frenzy.
You were in Doze 95% of the time.
David (not even gonna try to spell his username, too late at night) was also comparing his battery life to 4.4 AOKP. I have always heard that AOKP is amazing on battery life.
Update, here is my battery life. The Doze part was me using my S3 when this was on my bed, and then finally watching The Force Awakens. (PS: Great movie!)
And that is in airplane mode the whole time.
The rest was mostly me web browsing or watching a YouTube playlist.

Yeah, I get pretty good signal here. I live in a major city. :good:
But about 8 hours of that was in an area of low signal. Also, my Doze usage was for nearly two days! And I didn't baby the phone. I just used it for messaging/calls/email and a few searches, and my calendar and updating a few apps in that time. When I plugged it in this morning I had hit 48 hours with 1.25 SOT with 4% left. I could have gone another few hours if need be.
My average SOT time is closer to 2.5 hours with about 24 hours standby (Doze). I've gotten as high as about 4 hours SOT with about 18 hours standby. I've already run a high drain test, SOT almost at 100% of the time, it averaged about 20%/hour. So at that rate the device would last for about 5 hours. But that is not average usage. My high usage of 3-4 hours with 18 hours standby is a better metric. And by all standards, this is excellent battery life for a device with an 1800mah battery without battery saving features engaged!
Oh, and my Doze usage last night was at 0.9%/hour

I updated the Q&A. Thanks for asking that question!
@Easy_as_Pi_3.14 can I call you 22/7's?
You might want to include my video demonstrations of the wake algorithms in the FAQ
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLZ_n933bbFxFX7UUVjookMDEl1DYShSfg
(Sweep2Sleep and leniency are irrelevant to this kernel)
Also make a note that pocket detection makes wake controls not work when it's sufficiently dark
(My algorithm uses the light sensor data to check if it's in a pocket, YMMV on "sufficiently")
Also, btw, you might wanna make a list of recommended stable governors
IMO Uberdemand seems to be one of them
Further more I recommend putting that f2fs is only for data and cache (or maybe put a guide with how to convert to it)
Also, you are missing a few things in the kernel features that might be good to mention, and maybe explain what they are
Vibration Intensity, TCP Congestion Controls, KCAL, MDP Cooler Colors Control
I'll keep thinking of stuff to add to the FAQ
No doubt it will get bigger and bigger as time goes on :/

It is there already for me.
However, I found it easier to either use the key combo (volume first helps) or downloading an advanced file manager (my favorite), open Now On Tap (long-press Home in virtual keys, Menu or Search if I recall correctly on touchkeys), hit the share button, then use Save as.

Hmmm... I've had that before as well, but I do not recall having it on hercules (although I'm on CM11)
I had it on T769 (Candy 5.1)
So maybe it's a LP+ Issue?
Does anyone remember having it from before LP?

- Post #2 will be updated with notes.
This AOKP MM ROM was built for the JFLTETMO, the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4. I have not tried this on any other device, but you are welcome to try it AT YOUR OWN RISK. See post #3 for successful tests on other devices.
A huge thanks to the Android Open Kang Project team!

Bluetooth work around:
Okay, so I finally got a cheap Bluetooth speaker so I could better understand the Bluetooth problems, and I too received the call of death.
However, I realized what darazor has been trying to tell everyone all along, and now I want to expound on that to help others.
When using Bluetooth, if you pair with an audio device (speakers, car, headset, etc.) And you have not adjusted any settings, the default for each audio device is phone and media. This will cause the COD if you get a phone call while playing music or other media.
So, if you want to use Bluetooth devices to play music:
Go to settings, Bluetooth, and click on the gear (settings) icon next to your paired speakers, and choose media, and unchecked phone. (See picture.) Now, when playing music, my phone vibrates and the screen comes on to tell me I have a call. Then, I can answer it, and the music stops. All is well.
If you want to use your hands free headset, choose phone and unchecked media. (See picture for reference.) And it should work for calls.
I now understand what everyone was talking about, and will do my best to look into it. Thanks @darazor for pointing this out, hopefully this lengthy explanation makes it clearer.
Governors:
Code:
If you want to save battery life, I recommend that you use the Kernel Aduitor app, and set your Governor to SmartMax, and your I/O scheduler to Noop. This may affect performance slightly, but will save on some battery power.
If you want to increase performance, I recommend that you use the Kernel Aduitor app, and set your Governor to Lionheart, and your I/O scheduler to CFQ. This will boost performance slightly, but will have a negative impact on battery power.
The governor is currently set to Interactive, which is a good balance.
Fast Charge:
To use Fast Charge, you must enable it in the Kernel Adiutor app. If you want to set custom settings, you will need to get another app from the Play Store, such as Device Manager or other apps that allow you to control the fast charge settings. Note that some fast charge settings apps do not change the appropriate values to function. The lockscreen may still say "slow charge" as the rom itself does not natively support fast charge, even though the kernel does.
Thanks @khaoticking for sharing that this rom works on jflteaio!
Thanks @alesu69 for sharing that this rom works on jfltexx (i9505)!
Thanks @darazor for testing and finding that Xposed modules work on this rom!

Thanks.
As for the Bluetooth, I do not have any devices to test with, so I test it by sending and receiving a file to and from someone else's phone, which works great. However, I would think the standard Marshmallow Bluetooth issues would apply here as well.
I took the base of the device tree from the SlimLP build, in which the Bluetooth was great, but I had to use vendor blobs from Marshmallow ROMs to make it work, so it will probably have the same Bluetooth issues as the other CM Marshmallow ROMs.

EDIT: The Bluetooth does work, but you need to adjust a setting. For working Bluetooth see post #3 "Bluetooth Workaround".
For what it is worth, here was the benchmark result:
Not bad, but not as good as the benchmark from the SlimLP ROM.

I found your marks to be pretty accurate even with AdAway, Task Killer, lookout and nova launcher running I got just under 39900.

I can report that Bluetooth seems to work fine. Connected to my Garmin Nuvi and was able to make calls from same. While not a definitive test it is very promising.
Great Rom
So far in a week of using this rom, it works pretty damn good. very stable only a couple of issues...
Contacts list disappears randomly.
Takes about 2 -3 minutes to reboot.
Waze app force closes.
The bluetooth works without problems.
Overall, I'm pretty happy with the results.

Cirrus97,
Thanks for the feedback. Yes, the reboots seem a bit slow to me as well. As for the contacts issue, I haven't seen it here, but for reference, which gapps did you use?
Also, does Waze app fc on startup, or randomly during use, or is there a specific action that causes it?
If you have the time, pulling a logcat for when these errors happen would be great! If not, that is okay, too.

I have not encountered this either. Using open gapps nano date 20160604. Contacts version 6.0.1
Bluetooth issues slightly
(works great but may experience a Sim disconnected, Bluetooth share stops responding and some other issues that dont effect to much)
Bluetooth audio / call works tested both on speaker and car
Have not used default music app
Notice that audio effects makes the audio alot lower (bluetooth)
Battery life is great compared to last rom I was running just ate all my battery in a hour with screen off
Superuser enabled/disabled for quick settings (for those who use snapchat an ect)
------------
Just some ideas about status bar/notification center
Anyone want a challenge? Notification drawer quick settings (make it like Samsung quick settings which is a single row with scroll)
Wish they made different notification drawers would be a lot nicer then current. Or at least a way to replace parts. Or even a horizontal status bar/notifications.
Hi
I'm new to relatively new xda. I have tried this custom rom on my s4 m919 and it works great. The only problem i have is that my battery dies really fast, Any suggestions or kernels that i can try?
Thanks

I'm actually getting better battery life than on my lollipop rom. Some thoughts:. Gapps nano so that you only use what you need. I use advanced Task Killer Free (by ReChild) . Also use Disable Service, AdAway, and Net Guard No Root Fire wall. You can read more about each one and see if they help. There are olther settings in the rom that will help reduce battery drain as well. If You don't use an app uninstall it. Good Luck.
Better battery life options: kernel tweaks.
When I put this together, I figured most AOKP users would be more on the power user scale, so I set the kernel for Performance and IO scheduler for BFQ. Pretty standard for average to heavier loads. However, if you want better battery life, you can download this free app on the play store. No-frills CPU Control found here (there are other apps, but I can vouch for this one working):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=it.sineo.android.noFrillsCPU
With this, you can set your kernel governor and io scheduler to anything you want. From a battery only perspective, you can set it for:
Powersave
Noop
But that is a bit extreme. You will notice "stuttering" when doing any task. A good alternative is to set your system for:
Conservative
Noop
Which can give moderate gains while not sacrificing too much performance.
Conversely, if you want more speed, use this:
Performance
CFQ
Which will just eat through your battery, but will really give your phone some "pep in it's step".
Many will argue facts and fiction, but the general community accepted power saving to performance chart looks like this:
I/O scheduler: Noop > BFQ > CFQ
(Row is Read over write, so it is really smooth for video playback, but very slow on writing to disk, which makes it hard to judge power saving vs performance.)
Governor: Powersave > Conservative > Interactive > Ondemand > Performance
(Userspace governor lets the app tell the kernel what speed it requires, this is unusual for a phone, usually used on servers. Most apps do not know how to use this function. I like to include it though, as a power user may have a use for it.)
Hope that helps.
L-Speed from the Store is also a good tool for some simple tweaking
Fixed
OK fixed the contacts & waze issue, cleared the cache & family, imported the contacts & reinstalled wake. Works great now! the battery life seems to be excellent and really good memory management. Like I mentioned the only issue is the long boot time. Keep up the great work.
