Power Button/Response - T-Mobile LG G3

I think when holding the power button down the time it takes for the power menu to popup is too long. Like 2 seconds too long. Anyone know of a way to change this?

I just timed it.
It takes EXACTLY 2 seconds for the menu to come up.
So it's 2 seconds too much for you? Would you like the menu to come up instantly so that you have no option to turn your screen off with the power button?
Curious.

I think it's just fine. Literally takes 2-3 seconds. Don't see why you would need it shorter

Compared to how long it takes on my previous Nexus 5 phone, it does feel too long.

Thanks for timing it. Since it's exactly 2 seconds then it is about 1.2 seconds too long. I too came from nexus and its defiantly too slow.

Based on other android phones I've used, like nexus 5, gs3, lg nitro HD, etc, the delay LG has set on the G3's power button does feel a bit longer, I'd say a second longer. Is it a big deal? definitely not, but to those who are accustomed to a faster response time and probably because they use the power button for certain things, then yes, the longer delay does feel too long. I personally would like the stock android delay, which I think is only 1 second.

Intermittent Hanging When Switching From Screen On to Off and back On

Alright I have only had my white DInc2 for a week and I have noticed this since day one, certainly on CM7 (with and without custom kernels) and possibly on sense too (I'm not positive since I flash constantly but I deffinitely use CM7 more). Basically when I hit the power button to shut the screen off, and then almost immediately hit it again turn it back on, the phone will hang and the screen may not come on for 30 - 60 seconds. It doesn't matter how many times I hit the button. This happened almost right after I bought the phone, running cm7 but at stock speeds and overclocked. As I said above it's happened on at least a few different kernels. So what could be the issue? I've seen something similar on the Eris back in the day and that was caused by the minimum voltage being to low on screen off. But like I said its done this even at stock speeds. I still have a little time left to return this phone if need be, or I have insurance that covers everything (including water damage) so I can always get another phone if need be. And the insurance has no deductible, so that's a plus.
If anyone can help me out here, it would be much appreciated.
Thanks

I'll try it but its so random, its very odd. It happened quite a bit when I first got the phone, then it didn't happen at all for a good 4 or 5 days. Also it only seems to happen when I switch off and back on right away, if I switch off and come back to the phone 15min later it comes right on at the press of a button.
Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk
A little update. Running a sense 3.5 rom I had my screen off set to 245 min AND max. I haven't had any problems. So that's more evidence leaning towards it not being a minimum voltage problem. But the problem is so damn intermittent, I'm really not sure what to think of it. I did see on another forum someone else had the same problem but they didn't go into detail.
Well if anyone else has ideas, shoot them my way. Thanks

I had similar problems on my eris and it was related to the governor settings (my eris hated smartass in particular.) The min clock speed affected it as well but not as much. I would try a different governor.

Some people swear by it, but then again some people believe a supernatural being exists because someone said so.
Yeah I've used it since I got the Nexus and it works great. Does what it's supposed to do. I don't believe in supernatural beings though.
Full disclosure; I have had this bug which manifests about once every week where the touch screen becomes completely unresponsive in the lock screen and there is no way to unlock the screen or turn the phone off unless I pull the battery. I have this nagging feeling that it might have something to do with JuiceDefender but I haven't confirmed it.

I purchased JuiceDefender and also Green Power Premium and never really noticed a big difference in battery life against leaving them off and changing wireless profiles.
Getting almost 2 days out of my Nexus so may give them a go once they both fully support ICS just to test.

Disable JuiceDefender for a week and see if that bug still exists. If not, problem solved. You can do the same as juice defender by pushing the multitask button and swipping away any apps you don't want.

JuiceDefender is not only great for a little energy saving, but also for featured like WLAN by localization and display Brightness configuration.
I used it on the S2 and now on the GN.
On Ics it has some little bugs yet, but it also does seem great job here.

I have the basic version of JuiceDefender running on my GN and I swear its making a noticeable difference in battery life.
I have it set to disable my Data connection whenever the phone is locked. It re-enables it when I unlock it, so it doesn't come on when I'm just checking the time. The effect is immediate too so data is there when you need it.
It also comes on once every 30min just to let apps/email sync briefly.
According to JuiceDefender its improved my battery life by 1.7x. I'd be inclined to say its about right...

Lol it does a bit more than that mate. It's the radio function management I need since I'm always too lazy to toggle them manually. I've been meaning to disable it to test if the lock screen bug would go away but I find it hard to use my phone without it now that I've got so used to it. Now that's it's the Christmas holiday though I might give it a go.

It made a big difference in battery life but it takes way too long for the device to reconnect to the mobile network when i wake it up. Likewise, it will not allow me to get my emails throughout the day unless I wake it up.

The multitask button doesn't kill apps - swiping just removes them from the list. Its more like a recent used apps list - like long pressing the home button on Android 2.x use to be - than a multi task manager showing running apps.
As for juice defender, I bought ultimate, and it was just horrible. Very laggy UI, and felt like it was causing more battery usage itself than saving. The comments for 'ultimate' on the market seem to say the same thing. The free version seems much better, although you don't have as many options. There's also another paid version which is cheaper, but I havent tried it.
Put it this way, I uninstalled it Waste of £4.99 which is a ridiculously hefty price for something that cant even get its UI right.

JuiceDefender Ultimate
Hi,
I'm using it on my rooted GN 4.0.1, works well.
By using 3G/WLAN management I come up to 25 - 30 hours lasting battery power.
At home and in my office I told JDU (JuiceDefenderUltimate) to switch to those WLAN's and disable 3G there.
I'vnt tested all the other features like cpuspeedcontroll, or something else.
For me it works perfect.

Steps to prove yourself incorrect:
1) Install OSMonitor
2) Open GMail
3) Go to homescreen and open OSMonitor
4) In the process list, make sure GMail is listed (it should be!).
5) Press the Multitask soft button and swipe away GMail.
6) Check for GMail in OSMonitor and it will have disappeared as it is no longer running.
Magic!
Sorry I'm just on a personal mission to stop this misinformation from being spread.

On-topic: I've used JuiceDefender Ultimate on all three Nexuses over the years and I certainly think that it makes a big difference by turning wifi off when not in use and turning mobile data off when the screen is off, although I have loads of other settings configured within the app also.
JD Works Great
I have been using JD Ultimate on my Nexus and it works great (I would estimate 1.5 - 2x battery life).
I used the Nexus for a little over a week without JD just to have a set expectations of what my battery life is without JD.
I have not seen any bugs with this up til now.

My phone also reboots randomly and I am wondering if its linked toJuice Defender. The reboots only started recently
I use JD free on my GN, although I haven't seen what battery would be like without JD on it. On my Incredible, JD made the difference between not getting though a single day to getting almost 2 days out of my battery. On my GN with JD I'm still only getting about one full day's worth out of it, sometimes not quite a full day.
I am using Juice Defender Plus and it is set to manage it self then WiFi and 3g network. I am using wifi at home and in the office, and the rest -3g
In my opinion....jd plus does worth the money spent.
14 hours and 20 minutes used - 46% of battery left

Ice Cream Sandwich seems to do a lot of the things that JuiceDefender did on my old phone. For example, data is automatically turned off when you are connected to WiFi. I had it installed for a while, but when I looked at the list of apps that were using the battery (in the Android settings menu) JuiceDefender was listed as using a fair amount of battery. I'm not sure it is worth the hassle on this phone.

Any Wake Up Lag??

Does this phone have any wakeup lag when the power button is pressed like the Note 1 has? Does the screen on the Note 2 come on instantly when the power button is pressed?

My Nexus sleeps well and it has no wakeup lag. Same as HTC phones - no wakeup lag. I've been really considering a Note 2 but if it has wakeup lag like my SGS2 and Note 1 had (and it sounds like it does) I'm not touching one.
No lag at all.
Same lags here... And sometimes, when i press home button, phone doesn't wake up...
I removed shortcuts on lockscreen, (placebo effect), and it seems to wake up faster sometimes...
It's like all new Samsung phones... We need many updates to have something running great !
I think it is because of softkey lights. I have a Galaxy Ace with softkey backlights and a Galaxy Fit without backlights for softkeys and I notice that the Fit has very less wakeup lag(almost instant) when compared to my Ace which takes 2 sec to wake up. Both are almost the same specs and have the same type of firmware.
No lags, if your phone is in deep sleep, ofc it will take more time to wake up.....

As I said before, my Nexus deep sleeps fine and there's no wakeup lag. HTC phones don't have wakeup lag either. So the "deep sleep" argument is not correct.
You can watch youtube, there are few tutorial to "fix" that. all you have to do is to disable S Voice when pressing the home key.
Go to s voice's settings and disable 'open via the home key' and 'wake up command'

The wake up lag represents that the phone is in deep sleep. It is a feature of Samsung processors, the deep sleep state so it can last very long on standby.
Sounds like sloppy design to me, it should at least be an option you can disable. It would be good to read something technical on the subject if you have a source?

moved to new thread.

what slows the phone down over time?

This phone was butter smooth when I got it. But slowly, over the last 9 months it has started to feel like my previous phones, which is disconcerting because I upgraded to a 2gb phone to avoid lag. But lately I find I am getting lag when hitting the power button to wake up the screens and especially when I click on a text box. I have to wait up to ten seconds for my Swype keyboard to display.
It's not like I've been filling my phone with junk over these nine months. I've kept all my old apps and added maybe 2 or 3. No huge games. I have 7 gigs of Rom available. I'm just not seeing why it should be getting gradually worse at responding. It's the same phone it always was.
Any tips or tricks?

try this, pre 4.3 doesnt have trim.
I tried it, and gave it a week to work. But the keyboard is still slow. It tends to display, but not respond to my typing for about 5-10 seconds. As I said, there have been no major changes with my phone... an app here or there, but that's it.
It's typically only when I haven't used my keyboard recently, like the first time I open it after it was in my pocket for a while. Almost like it needs to take some time to allocate some ram to it.

[Q] Can the lag be forgiven?

Hey guys,
I know this may sound like a broken record, but after some pretty extensive use, the lag still exists, and is fairly consistent. I am not Sure if it is just that I am spoiled by my note 2 and its ultra smoothness, but I am testing the crap out of this tablet and in and out of programs back to the home screen and swiping left to right, I am having very consistent lag or stutter. What is everyone elses tablet working like? I only am using 3 screens with minimal widgets and am always monitoring my background running apps and processes. Hands down best tablet I have used just wish it was Smoother

its not that bad, i bearly even notice the lag.
After installing both OTA updates, doing a factory reset, and rooting, I get no lag whatsoever, except when I wake the device. For some reason, if I haven't used it in a while, when I press the home button, the power button, or pull out the pen, it takes about 3 seconds to wake.
Ridiculous.

Stock. I'm not sure I want to overclock. I don't want to do anything that will drain the battery faster. Are you thinking of OC'ing? And if so, to what?
My region had none of these new updates and I don't have any lag, unless in the crappy Android internet browsers. I use my iPad for that. Also switched to Apex launcher (which has a decent Free version).

I had lag when search index was scanning my SD card for few days. One bad pdf or document may force to do it.
Wow..... just wow lol.
I agree with the OP. This was not supposed to lag, and I have it too. Love the tab, but I didn't have to have it. Now that I do, I won't get rid of because I like it. But it was supposed to be lag free, per say. Rooted and both ota's, hasn't gotten better or worse out of the box. Just has that typical Sammy lag. Slightly disappointed with that.
I've noticed terrible lag in theoldreaer.com. it is worst on chrome but better if I hold it portrait. the marking item read as i scroll kills the tablet. smooth as butter on my exynos 4 gn8. overall this tablet is the best android tablet I've owned but it does have its issues.
also, scrolling long websites take far too long for a device with 3 gigs of RAM to redraw. It should be able to keep the entire page in memory .
Lag...
I don't get an unreasonable amount of lag EXCEPT when opening the floating keyboard in a Web browser. I really like that keyboard for swipe typing with the Spen. Unforgivable? Yes. Definitely.
The thing that irks me more than anything is the ungodly huge notification drawer lagging when you swipe down. Maybe if they designed it like stock Android with two smaller ones it might work better. That drop down should be and is butter on a lot of other devices. I don't get it.
I'm not getting rid of the tablet but I will complain until they fix it in 4 months or however long it takes. Or until somebody makes a sweet TouchWiz ROM.
