The easiest way.....just install any cloudyfa ROM with your SIM. You will get GSM network out of the box.

Hi I'm new to g2 world. I have a ls980 and I live in Europe so I flashed g3 port that has working gsm sim cards. My problem is coming from n4 I can't live without aosp. My favorite rom is carbon, which I tried but couldn't connect to gsm. Anyone have any idea what to try? Thanks in advance.

It really works!
I didn't think it'd work at first, because of all the other unlocking methods out there, like changing carrier files, unlock codes, T-Mobile ROMs, but I can happily say it works I tried it with an old Metro pcs sim I had. I got the "No service" signal because it isn't activated, but at least its detecting the sim card Thanks for the info! Oh, & I was using the CloudyG3 ROM version 1.2 & it still worked

No LTE, since the needed bands are missing from the phone. But yes, 4G (HSPA+). Several weeks now on Cloudyfa G3 ROM v1.2. Pick "WCDMA preferred" in the mobile network settings, and choose the T-Mobile APN without LTE, although the LTE one seems to work OK as well. If you have any issues kick-starting the GSM radio you can download Radio Switcher from the Play Store.
The only issue is that some of the T-Mobile towers haven't yet been "refarmed" or "unlocked", so on this device in that case you would only get 2G data. For example at home I get HSPA+, but at work only Edge/2G. Hopefully that will change in the coming weeks to months as T-Mobile continues to upgrade its towers. The same issue applies to a Sprint iPhone 4S and Republic Wireless Moto X that I unlocked and am running on T-Mobile as well.

Guys I'm new to this rom update business, I mean I have done plenty of windows phones but none of the newer androids.
I have an LG G2 32GB Sprint (bad esn), purchased from ebay, but I'm in the UK.
Any idea of how to get it working with the UK?
Links and instructions would be most helpful
Thanks in advance

Sorry cannot provide links I m on the go. First you need to check if you are on latest ota which is zvd. If you're on zvc root with latest iroot. If on zvd search the forum there is an apk which you just install to your phone and run it (called towelroot). It roots even without reboot. Then search the forum for ls980 permanent unlock and follow the guide. Just use any root explorer to copy the files, restart and you are unlocked but with no speed data icons on status bar. The other way, is after rooting, install autorec (search for it - it's tricky, you might brick). Autorec is needed to install custom recovery. Then just pick a rom from cloudifa (g3 port is great with no bugs). His roms are made for gsm and you will be already unlocked. If you prefer aosp based, only one that worked for me after changing some settings and restarting is Omni. Couldn't make carbon (discontinued), vanir and mahdi to work. They didn't even recognize that a sim was inserted. Before flashing a custom rom, make a full backup via custom recovery and make sure you get familiar with how you enter recovery and download mode with hardware key combination. Keep in mind there is always a chance to brick and then you will have to enter download mode and flash back to stock with lg tool. If you are confused ask any questions and I ll try to help when I get home on my pc. Did all above a week ago and ended with cloudifa g3 port and is working great so far (I'm in Greece).

Thanks very much for your help and advice, I can get as far as unlocking the device and it all works However, how do you enable data? If I can enable the data then I'll keep the normal ROM and use it
Also after installing a custom recovery, the autorec works great and I can understand the concept of it, but then when I flash with the cloudifa g3_1.2 it flashes but when the phone restarts it gets stuck (first time at 49%, then had to reflash using stock via LGFlashTool, then second time at the LG logo) so I have to go back to the stock rom, root it, unlock it and back to square one. Unsure what to do next?

In order to enable data you have to check your apn settings. If there are no settings, try to set it manually (Google your carrier's apn settings). When you are done and you get data to work try a reboot to see if they stick. I think in the permanent unlock thread you can edit this file with the apn settings and add your carrier's ones. Also delete those 2 files so you can automatically have data after each reboot.
Now I didn't really understand what went wrong while trying to flash g3 port. Have you flashed the appropriate baseband? It's very important in order to boot. It's mentioned and there is a link as well in the op of g3 thread.

Bought this phone on eBay few days ago and I started checking around about how to unlock it(though it'd be simple as any other phones, but I guess I was wrong). Found few threads talking about how to unlock it for US GSM carriers but barely find any information about using it in Canada.
Looking to root\use a custom rom and read that the CloudG3 rom will actually GSM unlock the phone, but will it work as well for Canada(will be used on Telus network)
Thanks.

As long as the band's are supported it should work.

There's a Rom on xda that converts the spring variant to the T-Mobile variant by flashing the Rom. It's basically a T-Mobile variant g2 cm11 Rom but with a Sprint boot.img and a few other Sprint files to make it boot. But if I'm not mistaken it has the T-Mobile radios in it. That should get you their full network experience.

Think this thread might be dead but if I get a reply it'd be great. Will the OP method work on the latest CM12 nightly? Or does AOSP here refer to only the CM11 variant?

Currently not the Device Maintainer for the G2. I'm working with the G Flex community now. I'm pretty sure there's a CM12 nightly already released. Updates will be posted in whatever thread you originally downloaded it from

[Q] Lost network after baseband flash

I bought a Canadian Optimus LTE P930 unlocked off ebay. I have no idea which carrier it was originally locked to (most likely either Bell or Telus). It came with Gingerbread, and I immediately rooted and installed CM10 M2 snapshot. My carrier is Fido (subsidiary of Rogers) and my Fido sim card worked on Gingerbread, and was working on CM10 until just now. When it was working, it showed up as Rogers rather than Fido, but that's not unusual for custom ROMs.
After seeing some suggestions that changing the baseband could help with the random reboot problem on CM10, I went to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1842763 and proceeded to try out the AT&T V18f baseband (from http://www.mediafire.com/?nniz00g7c7b3p). I installed the zip through CWM (I have the latest, 6.0.something).
After rebooting, my phone was completely unable to access the cellular network! I tried manually connecting to Rogers from the settings menu - no dice. I tried locking the phone in 2G mode and then reconnecting - no luck. Then I went back to that mediafire link and tried out every single baseband with the exception of P936 ones, and still no luck.
Finally I tried reinstalling CM10 from scratch (full wipe and everything) and still no dice even after trying all of the above again. I even reset APN settings to default.
I have not tried downgrading back to stock gingerbread (actually, I can't even find the ROM, other than in the Unbricking guide). I hope I won't have to end up buying an unlock code for a phone that came unlocked in the first place.
Due to my own stupidity, I did not take note of what the baseband was on my phone before I tried flashing a new one, so I really don't know which baseband is supposed to be working. I fear that this baseband experiment ended up re-locking my phone or something.
I have tried my Fido SIM in my other phones and it works, no problem.
Does anyone know what I can do? Thanks for any possible help.
That sucks that you are having a problem with the basebands. Lots of people have been using my zips and literally no one has reported any issue with them before, so it seems very strange that it would have caused something weird to happen on your phone.
I will say that I haven't had a chance to test the zips yet with the new version of CWM (6.0.1.5). Probably the first thing I'd try is downgrading CWM to 5.8.2.0 just because I really have no other idea why you'd be having that problem. Maybe someone else can chime in and let me know if the zips are working properly with 6.0.1.5 so we can rule that out as a possibility, but in the meantime it's something easy to try.
To downgrade, open ROM Manager, and scroll down to the very last option from the main menu. Select 5.8.2.0 and it will flash it for you. After that, reboot to recovery and try flashing one of the basebands again.
I just tested it with CWM 6.0.1.5 and it worked properly on my phone, so I don't think this is the cause of the problem.
I have just tried using the P936 basebands, and they did not work.
With every baseband I tried, my phone can detect that Rogers, Bell, and Telus networks exist (the latter two show up as a weird number on P936 basebands) if I use 3G mode, but can't connect to a single one. If I toggle 2G-only mode, it only detects the Rogers network, and still cannot connect. This is the behavior you'd expect from using a foreign SIM in a network-locked phone. From this, I think I can conclude that both the phone's radio chip and my SIM card are in working condition.
From what I have read, baseband flashing should not affect the network lock on a phone right?
If I can't find any alternative, I'm going to have to use the unbricking guide to downgrade to Gingerbread, which I hope not to do as it's a lot of time wasted, and I honestly don't even know if it'll solve the problem.
edit: to add, I don't have an LTE sim card (was planning to get one later this week) so all attempts to connect to a network are only 3G and 2G,
I don't know because I haven't ever had any reason to unlock my device.
Unless it has changed since the last time I tried it, CM9 and CM10 do not have support for unlocking your phone in the case that it is locked (but will work fine if the phone is already unlocked). Let's assume for the moment that your phone still works fine, but was relocked by installing a new baseband for whatever reason. If that's the case, then you must install one of the LG official ROMs in order to unlock the device again.
You don't actually need to unbrick though. I'd suggest that you take the system and boot images from the unbricking guide, push them to the device using adb, then force reboot the phone -- that way you won't lose CWM in the process.

Yeah that's true, pretty much all custom ROMs don't have the SIM unlock feature and that's fine. I am assuming my seller on ebay just entered the unlock code on stock Gingerbread before shipping it (at least that's what I would have done).
I guess I'll flash on an official ROM tonight. Do you know where I can find a CWM-flashable stock GB ROM? The unbricking guide looks pretty darn complicated and I would prefer not to spend too much time on this, since my phone isn't bricked.
edit: Let's pretend for the moment that flashing stock GB will solve the problem and restore network access. Is there a way I could back up the baseband afterwards?

I can make one fairly easily, give me a moment... Edit: nevermind, it will take forever to upload it.
Here's what you can do:
Download system and boot images from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1597488
Then from either terminal emulator or adb shell, do this:
Code:
su
dd if=/sdcard/boot.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p8
dd if=/sdcard/system.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p27
Then force shut off the phone (remove battery or hold power button for long time), and before you let it boot up, go to CWM (by powering the phone holding the volume down button) and do a factory reset from CWM, then reboot the phone normally and you should be in business.
Thanks a lot for your help, drumist. I am downloading the files now and trying my luck! Be back with the results later.
Oh, one other thing. I'd go ahead and flash the Bell v11a baseband before you do anything else. That's probably the one you want to use with that phone, and you don't want to flash another baseband after unlocking (at least, that seems to be the case).
Got the stock AT&T Gingerbread ROM running - and the first message I got was asking for a SIM network unlock PIN!
Looks like flashing the baseband indeed re-locked my phone (I didn't think this was even possible).
edit: Called my ebay seller and got the unlock code that he'd used before sending me the phone. All is well!
thanks drumist for saving me a lot of time with your "simplified steps".
This is all very strange because I also have an unlocked p930 but flashing new base bands has done nothing to affect my unlock.

Yeah, a lot of sites say unlocks are permanent due to how they affect hardware switches. Well, half an hour later I'm finally back on CM10 with network enabled.
Just tried flashing the V18f baseband from AT&T. This time it didn't affect my network.
Weird...

Push CWM via ADB?

I successfully flashed the Panama Stock 980H ROM, and I am going to root.
If FreeGee doesn't support it, can I push CWM via ADB?
I haven't done it, but I know it can be done on some devices. Has anyone done in on the LG OG Pro?
FWIW, the data DOES throttle correctly when not using the AT&T modem! (success)

Hi there all, want to first say thanks to all the devs and everyone on this board for all the cool work with LG phones. I'm new to AT&T (from Sprint) and GSM phones after 6 years of HTC phones and roms. Right now I'm on the trial period trying to decide if I will keep this E980 or return it and go with the HTC One, but I really like having the micro sd card over no sd card slot with the HTC One. Anyhow I wanted to post my rookie questions here because I am stuck, looked around and read everything but still unable to get CWM installed.
So far I have
1. Successfully flashed the Panama Stock 980H ROM
2. Successfully rooted
3. Installed FreeGee pro tried clicking unlock "sorry your varient is not supported" when I click install recovery I get FC, tried again this time selecting do not disable LG security, same thing FC? So my question is what dumb thing am I doing wrong, I have to be missing some detail right? Thanks
EDIT: Must of had a bad install the first time, uninstalled, reinstalled, installed CMW no more FC's or errors

Don't try to disable security. Everything else works. Just say I decline or No or whatever.
I believe the Freegee servers are down at the moment. I was unable to install any recoveries yesterday. But the developer is working to update it, so I expect all will be fine soon.
Regarding the unlocking process: From CWM, you should be able to restore an AT&T stock rom back up. Then you can unlock and try your luck with AOSP roms.

Ive been looking around the roms on the sprint section to find another stock rom that is already GSM unlocked so it can be used on t-mobile, like the Cyanogen11 one but cant find a definitive answer while reading through the roms and change logs of the roms. i know this might be a stupid anwsers and sorry if it is, but im not used to dealing with sprint phones and the TC method never worked for me when i have tried to do it and i have done it. any suggestios. thank you in advance.
I think for now it's a test it and keep a list of what works or if you try some post your results here I'm sure we are not the only two wondering this. cm11 works good great data speed for me on att but would also like a stock option.

The TC method never worked for US carriers. Have you tried the build.prop edit method? Should not be dependent on the rom. For a stock rom I find OpTimuS DE excellent. I used it previously with the build.prop unlock and now with the permanent unlock (but I'm in Canada).

The last one (spr) is done because you will get system UI crashes if you leave it as OPEN.

I don't follow. Why would you have a Sprint sim in the phone?? If you do this with a Sprint sim in the phone you will lose data. If you flash a rom or back to stock, you have to edit the build.prop again to activate gsm.

Haha sorry I didn't mean to make that confusing. But it didn't work with the T-Mobile Sim either. The only time I have been able to get any type of service bars instead of a red x over it is when I put the sprint Sim in and go back to bare stock
Actually now when I put my T-Mobile Sim back in, it shows all the service bars Grey but can't choose and operator or send a text.

You can use the app Tweakker to enter your APN settings.
the phone wants to resort back to cdma for phone service, grab an app called telinfo from the play store and use it to set your phone to GSM (auto PRL), then set your APN to get data working, best of luck!

Cricket working on sprint lg g2 h+

Hi everyone, so here it go's, ive been working with android devices all the way from my first android device(phone) the THE FAMOUS DROID X, since then on to a Motorola Xoom, Been theming and messing about with Linux OS's.
I purchased a Sprint LG G2 not really looking into the device because ive always depended on XDA and its entire community to come out with a hot fix, anyways I have Cricket Service and didnt realize the SIM had to be unlocked to work on other SIM cards, Since the stock ROM wouldnt let me on the Cricket Nework I downloaded and installed CM11, after installing messing around with Mobile Settings and such I got the Text (not mms) and Talk working however without data, so i knew the APNs werent working correctly, to make this short, I took the APNs from my moms Galaxy s4 (sold by Cricket) so the 4g worked on her phone, the attached files i put in the system/etc folder after that went into the settings networks selected 3g, and then added APN now when entering APN (access point names) i just entered in name and apn and saved it, then went back in and edited the rest and here are the screen shots

Hi everyone, so here it go's, ive been working with android devices all the way from my first android device(phone) the THE FAMOUS DROID X, since then on to a Motorola Xoom, Been theming and messing about with Linux OS's.
I purchased a Sprint LG G2 not really looking into the device because ive always depended on XDA and its entire community to come out with a hot fix, anyways I have Cricket Service and didnt realize the SIM had to be unlocked to work on other SIM cards, Since the stock ROM wouldnt let me on the Cricket Nework I downloaded and installed CM11, after installing messing around with Mobile Settings and such I got the Text (not mms) and Talk working however without data, so i knew the APNs werent working correctly, to make this short, I took the APNs from my moms Galaxy s4 (sold by Cricket) so the 4g worked on her phone, the attached files i put in the system/etc folder after that went into the settings networks selected 3g, and then added APN now when entering APN (access point names) i just entered in name and apn and saved it, then went back in and edited the rest and here are the screen shots

are you using a cricket sim card? or any sim card for that matter?
i am having trouble getting internet 3g to stick with my ls980 flashed to cricket.
Yes 60 bucks and even after the cricket sales guy said I'll never be able to get my LG on the cricket network I still proceeded to register the phone and paid the 60 bucks also I made a new post in general discussion I figured out the APN to get your stock messenger to send and recieve mms so my LG g2 is fully working

I was told by cricket (this was yesterday not when i first bought the SIM) i didnt need the SIM however i believe that would make it more difficult for flashing meaning diag mode plus cdma workshop and manually updating prl ect ect i prefer the SIM never have to worry about flashing roms and re flashing phone or using tot for complete restore SIM holds the network no matter what
guess i am going get a cricket sim card.. the flashing part wasnt bad.. but this sim card is a killer,, i had same problem with droid x i believe.. getting data to work and stick ugh.. thanks for all your help and everything

well the SIM it self only cost 10 bucks but the service and activation was 50 bucks. i think that includes registering the phone as well. i hope everything works out for you,
when i bought the g2 i really didnt know nothing about it, once i bought it and found out it had a LOCKED SIM, i went right to XDA for a quick work around. after configuring the phone and APNs very happy with the results for my g2(ls980)

I dont believe there is a simunlocker out there for sprint all the code unlockers, what ur seeing is for your MSL code, pay 1.99 and youll get the MSL code
sorry for the late response maybe u could help me to id like the sprint rom stock but i haven't figured out a way to get the apns sticking on zvc, however to install a t mobile (ported version for ls980) rom or any other, first root the device, with ioroot25, then install a custom recovery twrp with autorec in the play store, after reboot into recovery use trwp app in the play store, once in recovery go to wipe and wipe system, data (NOT INTERNAL DATA) davik, and cache locate the rom zip, and install, make sure you have the latest firmware installed first which is i believe 4.4.2, zvc. also the devs add a link to the whitelines fix which you will need

i am with you on the stock rom thing.. it has great features.. from what i have read, you have to take an apns-conf.xml file and put it in /system/etc
that is suppose to get the apns to stick, but i havent gotten to test it out yet.. just got home, about to flash back to stock and try out this sim card..
also, there is a sim unlocker that is suppose to unlock all lg g2

i think im gonna reinstall a sprint rom and test it out ive been learning quite a bit about flashing and apns prl's me and my wife are going to run an ad to flash phones to cricket for say 20 bucks but i want more knowledge first i dont wanna be messing up peoples devices lol . Ive ran other roms and there loaded to the T with settings, and ucountless tweaks and from what i have noticed, stock roms run smooth and wont brick the phone, i had a optimous g that had the optimums DE 5 rom and some how my 4 year old son adjusted the cpu clock way way to high before i realized it the phone was smoked lol so i try and use roms that dont have that option to over clock, besides this phone is fast enough without over clocking it

honestly, i am not sure how you did this.. you sure you have a ls980? from what i have read, you can not put a us gsm carrier on a sprint phone..only international

Can I flash ROMs intended for other note 4 variants?

I'm asking this question because the current build of CM13 for the N910V is underdeveloped at this time and I was wondering if I could flash CM13 for the SM-N910T or the sprint variant without any modem issues, etc.
Do a nandroid using TWRP and try it out. I've been testing different ROMs myself. I don't care for ASOP. Kind of ugly and useless without stock Samsung Apps. But I have tested MIUI, and a few other stock based ROMs found in the international Note 4 forum.

Just backup your EFS, Modem, and Boot partitions for sure. If you get a successful flash, immediately use TWRP to restore those partitions and you should be golden. Might also have to edit build.prop to avoid Play Store issues.

Has anyone tried a Sprint TW rom 6.0.1? I may give it a whirl and see if it works.

what roms are available to flash?
Hi there,
I find myself in an unusual(i think?) situation in that I have the verizon Note 4 but i live in Ireland. Now while the phone is sim free for the most part, Data does not work here without a verizon plan obviously and it would have to be a roaming plan so I would'nt even think about purchasing one. So i've been waiting for an opportunity to root my N4, now that there is a method I'm just wondering if I would be able to flash a stock Irl/Uk rom to my phone, or another rom that would allow me to have data and spen features. I would like to find out if this is possible before I attempt to root. My phone is on 5.1.1 and is the BPA1 version. Any help much appreciated, thanks.

Pending you could add the correct APN for whatever carrier you will be using, you should be fine. I purchased 2 of these devices nearly 2 years ago. I'm on Verizon prepaid and my wife has been on T-Mobile every since.
Funny thing is I didn't have to set her APN manually. The phone did it automatically the day I put her SIM in. Now she doesn't get the full potential of LTE speeds and MMS is a bit kwonky, but it works.

Thanks for the reply,
do you mean add the APN settings after i've rooted? I'm intending to flash the vodafone 5.1.1 IRL Stock Rom if it's possible, I already tried adding the APN settings and it does not work(unrooted) due to bootloader being locked and like i said i would need a verizon roaming plan to be able to use data. So if I get root and flash IRL vodafone stock rom, will I still have an unlocked phone or not? I'm not an expert in this but I would assume the phone would then be locked on the vodafone network yes? Or would it remain unlocked to any network? So just to be clear, what i would like to know is 1. will I be able to flash a stock rom from Vodafone Ireland once i'm rooted 2. If I do manage to flash Vodafone stock rom, will the phone still be unlocked or locked to vodafone? Any help much appreciated. Thanks.

Unlocked sim and unlocked bootloader are different. The phone is sim unlocked from the factory and can never be sim relocked (for lack of a better term). So to answer #2, the phone will not be locked to vodafone.
For #1, I seriously doubt you could odin a stock vodafone rom to this phone and even if you could I'd highly discourage it. If the file contained a bootloader, it would lock the bootloader and could potentially brick the phone. I would recommend unlocking the bootloader, flashing TWRP recovery, rooting (or flash a rooted rom), and add your APN's. If the stock rom is blocking you from adding APN's there are hacks to get around it once rooted. I used to use an app called APN Manager that you install as a /system app that would let you change APN's as you wish.

Any Touchwiz rom should support the S Pen. I believe the Paul (5.1.1) rom does. There's a Note 5 rom that should support it. Just stay away from CM13 or any AOSP roms and you should have S Pen support.

Not such an unusual situation hello from Ireland also a proud verizon note 4 user myself. Meteor and Emobile for me. Data works fine. Let me know if ya need any help.
I am also curious about this situation. I got an awesome deal for my 910v; brand new unopened for 280usd. Only problem is T-mobile sim doesn't get service, and it seems people have lost T-mobile service after upgrading to 5.0. So now I'm stuck with my aging S3 and this brilliant phone just sits there. Fingers crossed that johnboy sees some good results T.T
