I noticed that once I turn my phone on from sleeping, that the screen has a quick flicker and it looks like it gets alittle dimmer. This is with auto-brightness off, and brightness set to 100%. I head that the panel will throttle if u use it a lot, however this is only 1-2 seconds after turning on the screen.
Any once notice this?
Bump...
To explain this issue in greater depth: I keep my screen at 100% all the time. As soon as I wake my device, the screen turns on like it should, however within 5-10 seconds after waking, I see the screen flick like it is self calibrating or adjusting. The screen them is a little dimmer than the first 5-10 seconds. It is not over heating since it is just turned on. Does anyone notice something similar?

The only thing similar I had was that the screen started flickering like you, it looked like the display was adjusting the brightness all the time. My display completely went and it did it constantly at which point I returned the phone for an exchange. Another poster in here had the same issue. We thought it might be the GPU being fried by overheating (yours might be overheating as when you turn it on it uses a lot.of CPU to start up the phone)but we didn't know.
The strange thing is that it is not flickering, it's just a one time split second happening where it looks like the screen is adjusting or something. So strange.

Strange. I don't know what it could be.

Mine does the same thing.
My phone does same thin.i have been asking for help but no one can figure it out.i love the eye candy appeal of this phone so to say the least it is making me decide to jump ship.i had a lg g2 and with any ported g3 rom i flashed same issue.its a firmware thing i think

I had the same problem on G3. It started to happen after I inserted 64GB Micro SD Card. I tested few time removing the SD card and the flickering did not happen.
I put back the SD Card and flickering started again.
I tested with 8GB Micro SD card and the screen did not flicker.
So, I guess mine was due to the 64GB SD card.
Can any of you please try removing the Micro SD card and try if the flickering stops or not.
I have not tried using a different 64GB card. I am not sure if the flickering is happening due to the quality of the card/make.
I will update after trying another 64GB card.
Hi Again,
In my previous reply I had said using 64GB SD card was causing the screen to flicker and I changed to 8gb SD card and flickering stopped.
But it did not happen as expected. Even using 8GB card the screen started to flickering later on. It happens randomly at different screens and difficult to reproduce.
At the moment no solution.
Regards...

Turned off the phone last night, returned to it this morning (6+ hours) with "Power off - shutting down" on the screen. I ended up pulling the battery and booting from cold.
The phone turned back on with no problems, but 45 minutes after turning it off again - it is displaying the same screen and not shutting down. Pulling the battery, turning on and then turning off the phone immediately has the same problem.
Tasks running before the shut down are normal, I have almost no 3rd party apps installed yet.
Ideas anyone?
Sounds like a similar problem that I and a number of others seem to be having. The bad news is that there doesn't seem to be a simple fix at the moment, but the good news is that with it happening to increasing numbers of us, hopefully it will be remediable in a future update.

Hi there,
What main post are you referring to for this issue?
If you could please direct me, thanks.
I'm having the same problem, last week I was turning the phone off and it would turn off in half hour or so.
This morning, I turned the phone off, and it has been "Shutting down" for about 3 hours now...
extremely frustrating!!!
Try to install "aLogCat" application. This app could show Android log files.
And see if you can spot something there ...
I also have this issue. I took out the battery.
The thing is ... after turned on ... you can turn off without any problem.
unmount sd card before shutting down.
Will change it from never to shutting down to shutting down in <10 seconds

Had the same issue when I first got my desire from T-Mobile. SD Card later failed on me, and after getting a replacement from T-Mobile, the phone works perfectly and shuts down instantly. So my guess is that your problem is the SD card. You could try walking to the retailer and try to get a replacement SD card. When mine failed T-Mobile even gave me a 8gb one instead of the orignal 4gb
Im 99% sure its an app/widget causing the prob. I had the same, but its gone when I uninstalled most of my apps. Not sure which app caused the prob though...
I had that problem. After a hard reset it is not present any more. So i guess that some app caused it. Couldnt tell wich one.

It might be harder to diagnose than uninstalling/killing something and trying again, as it might be due to memory leaks, services, other tasks. I've read that it might be related to the backup to sd card which happens from time to time, so unless you're in the middle of a backup then you'd not have a problem (assuming there is a connection). You can only tell over time.
HTC Desire won't power off
I had the exact same problem. I only had 2 widgets active: 1 was the Handcent SMS widget the other was a Battery widget from mippin.com. I changed the Handcent widget to the program shortcut but did not uninstall and uninstalled the Battery widget. Now it powers off with no problem
i have the same issue with my desire.. i have a 8gb sd card in there.. which is nearly full.. maybe thats an issue?

thanks for that.. is there any downside to doing a hard reset? is that setting - privacy - factory data reset?

Once I tried to unmount sd card and then it wasn't possible at all to shut down the phone. I had to remove battery
hey buddy, try to remove quick links like back light and soft reset, it works also try with flash light same...worked with me..good luck. or try toms power off zip.
DESIRE doesnt turn off
It sucks..all night long, this morning i found out it was still in the process of shutting down..turning off the cell phone should be a priority program, all others tasks must shut down..i think HTC should make an update since a lot of users experience same problem.
It used to hang at shutting down with me too. But, and I have no idea what changed, it now shuts down just fine. Weird stuff!
I shut mine down last night. It used to take about 60seconds to shut down but last night it just said "shutting down" for hours. I left it to see what happened. 11hours later it still said "shutting down". I picked it up and was going to open it up and remove battery. I obviously didn't want to do that to get dust and crap into the back of phone. As soon as I turned it over to remove back the screen went white! HTC. And it started up. ? ? ? coincidence or did me moving it around cause the restart after 11hours?
Anyway, I can tell it now has 237mb free (using advanced task killer to check memory available). It never normally has more than 150mb free. Maybe there is a memory leak somewhere in Sense UI? It seems the longer you have used thephone without a restart, the more likley it will hang during shutdown.
I hope HTC are aware of this issue. I logged a support call too, as I'm sure many of you did.
anyway, shake the phone around a bit before you remove the back to see if that helps. It did for me after 11 hours of being stuck on "shutting down!" screen.
Oh by the way, I had unmounted the card befre the shut down in the hopes it would be quicker than 60seconds. It made no difference!
i had this issue also.. a factory reset fixed it.. i think it was an app i installed did the damage.. some mentioned unmounting the sd card first but i tried that and it made no difference..
Having an issue with my htc desire (it has a stock desire rom)
Basically when my phone goes to sleep the screen remains blank and I cannot seem to get the screen active
when I try to wake up the device as per norm the buttons light up however the screen remains blank..
the phone still seems functional (volume works, etc) however it does not respond to being 'woken up'
I have have done all sorts to try and resolve the problem, this includes checking sd card for errors, resetting phone.
Im a loss to what could be causing this, the phone is a right pain to use now, I go on a call and then screen dims but never recovers, however can still continue with the call.
I have to pull out the battery and restart the phone to have the screen 'wake'
I have looked at these threads of people with similar issues but no one has put up a solution.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=980022
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=892100
Tried testing the sd card for errors still have the problem.
Different SD card still have the problem
I tested it with the sd card removed and still have the same problem.
In airplane mode I still have the problem
With different sim I still have the problem
Tried two new roms, still have the problem (previous to this I had not changed roms in months).
Any ideas? How did other people fix this?
Strangely though after leaving it overnight it woke once the first time this morning. Now back to not waking.
Please help
hi,
another desire owner wrote the same issue on the QA forum...
seen a revealant linked posted by a member...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=892100
at first sight seems to be a sd card issue... also have a look on sdfix thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1010807
happens to me but just once, i just pull out the battery.
looking forward about sd card tweeking
hope this help
As I said it happens whether or not there is an SD card in the phone. And with different SD cards so I do not see how it could be an SD card problem.
Fixed it now. I took it apart then put it back together.

I have similar problem here...
Our case is that we can't wake a phone after deep sleep..Touch screen is just not responding. We can see a caller (when somebody is calling) and screen but touch screen is not responding.
After we lock it and unlock it again via Power button, all is just fine...
We caused that by disassembling and assembling the Phone..There was some dust behind digitizer, so we had to clean it...
There must be some strange thing that is not behaving as it should when U proceed
to disassembling and assembling..
So Guys out there...be carefully and think twice before you make decision to disassemble your Desire...

I realize now that problem that you had, has nothing to do with mine, because I have this issue, with or without Sim card..
Hi i have this supper anoying problem after 5.0.2 update! So basicaly What it does is when ever i will pick up the phone it would turn off like the screen would dim (not rebbot or shut down) and after a little tapping on a screen it would turn on again and sometimes when it does that it would glitch a little. While typing this it happened twice its sooooo anoying idk what to do now if i wont find any solutions i will just buy samsung galaxy or something like that. Also my carrier is Virgin Mobile thanks
Same problem, same phone.
Definitely annoying! Seems random but especially while rotating for me. I have not been able to dig up any solutions thus far.
Check out your proximity sensor settings in the HTC testing app, or try Gravity screen. Mine did the same thing a couple times, also clean off your screen at the very top left, if you look real good you can see the sensor just under the front camera hole in the glass, also sometimes a screen saver will mess with this sensor. One more thing is the stock lock screen can cause an issue similar to what you are talking about, hope one of these help yo out, cane0716

hi
thanks for information i already gave that phone to my friend and i think he fixed it by actually having different lock screen i currently have samsung galaxy s5 its wayyyy better lol
Phone turns off during use and will not complete boot unless plugged to charger even when the battery is almost full.
This error started last night after I did factory reset because of observed phone lag. I did mistakenly "wiped internal storage" but got the alert of "no OS during reboot", so I restored from my backup from SD.
the phone started properly but went off during initial setup and will go back off each time I tried turning it back on. I thought it was battery so I plugged it to power.
it did boot but will go back off once I have few touches on the screen.
I had to leave it plugged to setup my accounts else it will go off.
I'm using its Wi-Fi to send this message via my PC because any 2 - 3 touches will switch the phone off.
once it does that, it won’t even boot to bootloader before it goes off again unless plugged to power.
what I do to solve this please??
Having a couple issues not sure if related to flashing http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3191469 or my device itself. 1st is the sd card unmounts and remounts EVERY time ANY app tries to access it. After remounting, I can use the app as normal. The sd is formatted fat32. I have already backed everything up, reformatted (again fat32) and put it back. Issue is still present.
Next issue is the screen will flicker off after turning on about 50% of the time, but still acts as the screen is on as my LED stops blinking and I can swipe to unlock (I feel the vibrate) but it's a black screen. Most of the time, I have to battery pull (thank you LG for keeping THAT needed feature!) and it will work for a while and start acting up again. Anyone have any insight to these? Before I flashed this, I did not see these issues BUT I was only on stock rooted for a day or so before flashing this. tia
I posted in the ROM thread but got no response. Any insight is welcome. Thanks.
Just want to put this here for anyone also having these issues. First issue with the sd was a bad card. Replaced and no more problems. The second with the screen turning back off. I thought I had a bad proximity sensor. No, it was Lightflow! The are extra settings (settings> led control) that did not need to be checked. If this is happening to you and you have Lightflow, check those settings. This is happening on multiple devices, not just the G4. Hope this helps anyone.
Hello everyone,
I have since the first time an LG G3 (D855) that I root and that works very well.
Recently I bought a new one from a friend for my girlfriend.
He never root it, he reset it and sent it to me by mail.
At the reception, I turn on the phone and there, I have the LED lights, sound start but nothing on the screen.
It reacts when I put the finger on the screen so the touch sensor works.
I try a restart and battery removal but nothing better.
The screen has no shock but I told myself that perhaps during the trip he took a bad cut.
I hope it's just a miswired table, so I dismounted to check, but still nothing.
ThenI try something, I disconnect my phone too and I swapped motherboards.
And then the screen with my card in it work.
While my screen with the motherboards of the phone I just bought stay blank.
So the screen is not broken, perhaps it was a install problem.
So I use LG Flash Tool to reinstall the original rom (following a tutorial )
Everything goes well and ends without worries.
But that didnt change anything, the screen is still black.
Do you have an idea ?
Thank you in advance for your assistance and sorry for my bad english
I just realized that if I strongly illuminates the screen I can see that it works.
It' like brightness was at zero.
It's not a screen problem because when I plug it to the other motherboard brightness is ok.
Someone had this issue?
Same problem here
So I'm having the same problem at the moment, but this is the 2nd time that this has happened to me. Last time. I fixed it by changing charger. It worked for like 2-3 month and then I switched again and the problem came back. I suggest you try a few charges. It took around a week before it got fixed.
Hope it'll work for you.
BTW it was a Nokia charger

Exactly the same problem on my LG G2.
It often go to black screen, but it's not totally OFF. Touch work, and the screen the same, i noticed using a torch that the brightness when to something like zero, but if i increase the level, it stay dark. Only press power button sometimes come back, but few second later... Dark screen again.
It happens everywhere during boot, in home, in lockscreen, in TWRP.
I tried:
- Change rom
- Flash stock firmware...
- Totally switched off for 2 months
- Detach and reattach the screen
- Test proximity sensor in hidden menu
Nothing worked.
If anyone has an idea...
