I am currently running S3Rx rom and tried to change the boot animation while following this tutorial. However, when I went to File Manager and selected my qmg files and attempted to move them to their respective folders, I was greeted with the following message: "The operation's command was not found or has an invalid definition."
How do I fix this? Thanks in advance!
SOLVED: Had to install Root Explorer.
On another note: how do I remove the Samsung boot logo and the Galaxy SIII branding that follows it? I've already replaced bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.gmg in system/media

It has to be done in the kernel if I'm not mistaken.. I'm not sure if I've seen a tutorial for this but there may be

..if you have a non-Rooted phone then it is a no as far as I can remember.
..if you want to get rid of those carrier logo, startup and shutdown screen.. then upgrade your firmware.
.. i have the original I9000 and updated the firmware to JG1 a few weeks back to remove the singtel carrier logo.. now, I can enjoy the full Galaxy S logo animation during startup and shutdown.
i would be interested into changing the galaxy S boot animation with a custom boot like the android robot pissing on the apple logo

Using the samsung ROMs the only replacement you can get for boot animations are boot animations from other samsung androids that use the same *.QMG files to store the animation. These are QMAGE files, its a compressed file with all the image frames stored inside it.
We have to wait for a hacked kernel so we can use bootanimation.zip files like every other android phone.
I too would like to my boot animation. But for now all i can change is the shutdown
What the heck... a year thread rescue.
Escrito desde mi Galaxy S
Just root your phone and follow the steps below
1. get your desired bootanimation (i cant point you to specific threads but here's my favorite )
2.once you get your desired bootanimation, place it on the root of your sdcard, (internal sd card not external)
its actually easy to replace your bootanimation once you learn how to install adb tool (i had this even before i owned an android phone coz its part of the android sdk)
3. all you have to do is type adb shell in command line
and these commands:
su
busybox mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/stl9 /system
busybox cp mnt/sdcard/bootanimation.zip system/media/
reboot
you're phone should reboot and you can see the changes immediately
hey there!
I tried to change my bootanimation on 2.3.4 with the latest speedmod kernel ( kernel k15h t23), but instead of a new animation i got an bootloop showing the android logo.
i have copied my bootanimation.zip to system/media but the boot process stops as i saw an android logo. after reflashing i tried to copie the bootanimation to data/local (i read something about that place in different forums) but it crashes aswell at the android logo.
i put the bootanimation in the attachments and hope someone could help me!
thanks!
Did you try it with a supported Rom?
extract and push this file in your /system/lib folder
sometimes bootanimation binary are fu**ed up by rom cookers
he is using the stock rom
you can try to push the animation in /data/local/
EDIT: Try this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1078743&highlight=bootanimation

To be sure i tried to copy the bootanimation that you've given me to data/local and got the same result.
boot process stops a an "android" logo apperars.
- this is not the android logo like that one in the postet thread but the default one.
now i going to try system/lib (after reflashing everything)
regards
EDIT:
I cant put anything into the /system/lib folder - it says there is not enough space.
try to remove some bloatware or ringtone that you don't use and try again.
The system is near factory default.
Only Speedmod with root and root explorer are installed...
System has 120 K free.
I dont know what is deletable.
But i could see bootsamsung.qmg in system/media
any ideas to get an custom bootanimation work?
thanks!
I had the same problem. Probably speedmod doesn't fit perfectly with custom bootanimations. Or maybe the rom, but if you have stock and i have sensation rom, i think the problem is kernel.
If you are interested in bootanimation i suggest you to use talondev; with that kernel i never had any problem with bootanim.
Hi, after installing CoreDroid ROM, I wanted to change boot and down animation to stock version, so I extracted needed files from backup ("bootanimation.zip" and "downanimation.zip"), opened Root Explorer, turned on R/W mode, and replaced that files in "data\local" folder. Now, boot animation works, but down animation doesn't (as said in title).
I don't know what's problem, can someone help me? Thanks in advance!
EDIT: I have solved problem - I followed this tutorial and copied file via ADB: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=942976
Hey, guys! I haven't really posted on here yet. Though once I got my Pixel 2 XL and root was achieved I immediately got to work on modding. I hadn't ever rooted a device before and it took so much trial and error. But I've gotten to a point where I'm relatively comfortable with my device except for one issue: restarting my phone causes that AWFUL bright, max brightness screen to be displayed. Most of my apps and such are dark if I can help it.
I've been trying to flash/move the file/alter my boot animation using substratum, system/media/ in solid explorer, etc. No dice thus far! Substratum just gives me an error.
I'm not able to modify/rename things in system/media/ and have only managed thus far to copy/paste a .zip renamed to "bootanimation.zip" into the folder and overwrite the original. It definitely overwrote it. But now I just get a black screen with Android across it for an animation. I assume that's the OS fallback.
Is it just not possible yet in Oreo? I can deal with it. But it's bugging me and I don't know if I'm just missing something.
No need to flash a new boot animation, just take whatever boot animation zip file you want to change it to and replace the original one. The location is in system/media, the name you need to use for the zip is bootanimation, and once your new boot animation is in the system/media folder, change the permissions of the file so that it reads rw-r-r-
The boot animations in substratum themes often do not work, but any properly assembled bootanimation of the appropriate size will work when replaced in the above described method.
Definitely sounds like a permissions issue. Make sure you change the permissions for the zip file when it is in the system/media folder other wise any file you paste into that folder will just revert back to -rw-rw---- which of course will not play during the boot and you will experience the black screen.

This might help also. But what he said too.

I just checked and it appears I do have the right permissions. Could it be the permissive thing, as mentioned below?

I have it set for rw-r-r- and it is still just the black "Android" animation.
Finally got it fixed! Ultimately I found that setting permissions in solid explorer wasn't enough. I downloaded Root toolkit by cpu82 on here, mounted system r/w, then I moved things around.
Renamed original bootanimation.zip to bootanimation.zip.bak, moved the new "bootanimation.zip" to the /system/media folder, set the permissions (as suggested on this post), then rebooted to test.
Other than the REALLY white Google splash screen with the unlocked lock icon, the boot animation is dark! I'm very pleased with it, as it now matches my system. Thanks for the help, guys! I just needed another way to make the system folder writable.

Mine does as well! It still has the white screen that shows the unlocked icon, but after that the boot animation kicks in.

Thank you both for confirming. I had been waiting for someone to confirm, as I hadn't seen any information whether or not it would trip SafetyNet.
Regarding my G781B, in lieu of no custom rom's at present I am trying to fix a few of the foibles I have with the phone.
I have tried researching this for the full-fat S20 but over writing the same files (bootsamsung.qmg, bootsamsungloop.gmg) in /system/media makes no difference, I am still see the 'Three' (carrier) boot and shutdown animations.
Is it possible to hide/remove the yellow triangle warning about the boot-loader being unlocked? if so how? is this just an image file I can overwrite?
And lastly is it possible to remove/hide the pre-boot warning about the boot-loader being unlocked.
I had already posted this over on the S20FE section (and requested it removed) as we dont have much foot-fall over there, so I figured I would post it here instead.
I'm in the same boat as you. Rooted phone but no roms to flash. I eventually did figure out the bootanimation though. I have a Note 10 but I assume it's the same for the S20.
The boot animation is in one file, the shutdown and the PowerOn.ogg is in the usual spots.
Boot Animation: /product/omc/ "Choose your Carrier"/res/media
Shutdown Animation: /system/media
Boot Animation Sound (PowerOn.ogg): /system/media/audio/UI
As for the pre-boot warnings, I have no idea

I have a product folder by no OMC folder, what are the files names of the boot/shutdown image files on your device..?
They are named "bootsamsung.qmg" and "bootsamsungloop.qmg". The shutdown is named "shutdown.qmg"
The omc folder on my Note 10 has all the carriers in individual folders

Yeah that what I am thinking, I will again replace those 3 files and see if the 'Three' logo gets replaced.
