[Q] whats wrong - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I have been using the m8 for a couple of months now and its amazing
I rooted it the first day and flashed the viper rom and since then I have been using it and I also factory reset(wipe) when I flash a major update.
anyways, in the last few days the m8 became so slow, apps take over a sec to load and the screen just isnt responsive as it was and the battery wont last half a day. So I wiped the m8 from twpr and flashed the rom again but still the problem is there. I tried the skydragon rom and now the m8 is over heating just by using whatsapp and even on stand by.
does anyone have any clue of whats going on? does the sd card effect the performance of the m8? do i need to "fastboot erase cache" before flashing the rom? or does the dot view case has something to do with it or xposed mod??
thanks

Ah ye i remember you from the one x forum....some people should not mess with their phones !
Why don't you do a clean install of the stock rom and leave it like that for a while. Why don't you try the obvious things first before asking ?
Cheers !

hmmm, I didnt root my phone to keep it on the stock rom and btw if others are running fine with the same rom that means the problem isnt with the rom :cyclops: some people should not reply in these forums especially in the help section
anyway, thanks for the helpful reply

Haha that made me chuckle ! Don't come knockin at my door when you need a nandroid backup because you didn't made one yourself ?!
People should always return to the original stock rom to try and rule out errors, one custom rom can run good for somebody and for others not....they are not for nothing custom roms !
But you seem to know it a lot better than me (yet you are here asking for help) so i hope you will solve your problem....

Hmmm I didn't do a backup thats correct, yet I didn't ask you for your back up, I asked if you knew whats causing the problem I'm having and if I know better than you do it doesn't mean I know everything if I only knew that you'll be the only one replying to this thread I wouldn't have created it in the first place
anyways, no hard feelings bro :*

Looking at your list of threads you needed to start to solve issues have proven that some people will never learn....

bla bla bla now ur doing some research on my profile what a useless member, if you can't help me with my problem, I think you can shut your mouth and stop nagging like an old woman

Hahaha i always research somebody's profile. And yes i have definitely proven my uselessness !

You can try wiping caches from recovery and also check ur kernel settings to make sure your max isn't sticking and try using a different kernel if its still running a little slow uninstall exposed framework and run ART

Newly rooted epic...now what?

Alright guys,
I recently rooted my epic. Now what? How do I get themes onto my device? I had an eris but didnt know what to do...i really like some themes, especially the angry red alien. (i think thats what it is)
Is there an easy step by step tutorial that I missed?
Also, anything else thats cool besides themes that would look nice
Thanks guys!

Lol....cheech, you have much to learn young padawan!!
First, I believe you can't flash themes over stock roms, only deodexed roms will take themes. The stock rom is odexed.
Second, whatever version of clock work mod you used as a recovery must be compatible with the rom/theme/kernel/ect you are going to use.
Three, sorry I can't break it all down for you, but I'm still learning, just read about what you want to flash before jumping in and burning the house down.
Oh and stay away from rom manager for now, unless you want major issues...
One last thing and I don't mean to sound like a ****. If your not willing to read and research, your going to inevitably run into issues, major issues. I read for weeks before I did anything and its nearly impossible to put that into one or two paragraphs. If you don't feel like reading I'd tell you hacking your epic or any phone for that matter is a terrible idea.

Well heres what happened. (I have a new thread out so this is just a copy/paste)
just installed CWM 3.0.0.5 and now my Epic is frozen upon reboot! It keeps going to the SAMSUNG black screen and wont move from that.
I reboot in recovery mode and get to the CWM menu but cant do anything from there, cant wipe device, cant remove anything, etc.
Help me fix this!
Im a college student that needs his phone working ASAP!
Thank you!

It was sarcastic humor since a few people have been finding their phone bricked.
It sounds like you used CWM 3.0. Which converts to EXT4 (for filesystem type). You will want to read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Samsung_Galaxy_S/SPH-D700
and then this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=798067 and this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Flashing_Guide_-_Android And THEN use the SEARCH TOOL * as you should have before asking* to see if you can find th problem within he thousand or so threads in the epic 4g part. Good luck.
Check out my how to video thread for visual help! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1009997
WAIT. You DID install clockwork mod 3.0. Did you read a single guide? The stock kernel is NOT compatible with the EXT4 format. Therefore you HAVE to flash a kernel that is. (search it): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=897612 read the steps and you should be fine (as soon as you flash the right kernel). Oh, and you should download and flash SyndicateFROZEN ROM. Just a friendly suggestion.
Watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQ2g6J1JgjU to take your phone back to stock or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wy2Et6qVGdo&feature=channel_video_title to put on the syndicate rom now that you have upgraded clockwork. qbking77 videos are awsome and if they help think about a donation so he keeps providing more.
Thank you to everyone who helped me out in this thread. My phone is now fixed. Turns out the .tar / PDA file that I was using in Odin was corrupt and wouldnt work fully.
I used a different version which seemed to work fine, then it upgraded once I turned my phone on.

Was that a question? Cause last time I checked a question supposed to end with a question mark: "?"
Anyhow, first thing first, we need figure out what's the deal with boot loops, when that solved then we could move on forward with the roms.
Right now I'm on stock rom, and I know if I reboot or shutdown the phone, I'll need go through CWM to restore last backup, because it will boot loop. Fortunately unbricking process still works on my phone, my understanding that few people already hard bricked their phones after installing a custom rom...

I'm in the same boat too. I've customized my stock rom, but can't really reboot. The best thing I can do is quick boot to CWM then reboot from CWM.

That is correct. Right after flashing I restored backups through titanium backup. It solved the problems I was having, but I can't say for sure it will work for everyone.

Haha, no way. I may have to retire this handle...
I don't listen to country.
I gave up on looking for anyone to support this phone, much less the Bell version. I'll wait for ICS to be released, and revert back to a manufacturer that has developer support within the next year or so.

I haven't really given up just yet, but the slow down we are currently experiencing after the excitement of achieving CWM backup and Custom ROMs is eating me up inside. We have lost momentum on the development of new ROMs or Kernels or Mods for this phone, and in all honesty, is quite disheartening. I am grateful for the things we have obtained for this phone and to the Devs and Users who have come over to help us achieve them, but we need more, and I know we can get more. There must be something we can do, people we can speak with. I know it is hard for Devs to create something without physically having the phone in their hands so I understand why things are progressing so slow, and hopefully soon some of them will pick up this phone as well.
Let's try to reach out again to Devs that we know from other threads to help us out with new things to use. We seem to especially need custom Kernels for this phone, so let's find those who can do kernels. Let's not give up hope yet, let's keep trying and jump start this forum back to life.

JellyTime Opinions

Hello!
Im wondering about JellyTime, Is it good or bad/very buggy?
Since im very intrested about it i want others opinion.
Also im new to this rooting and new ROM installs.
Thanks!
Well, it is a beta Rom, so it will have bugs. I use it as my main rom knowing it has some minor flaws. If you need a full running device you might want to read the thread a little before flashing this. Most of us flashing this are "Flashaholics" and don't mind flashing a new version everyday if needed. I'd say flash it to see what it's like, and then make your own decision. Only you will know if you like it. This goes for any Rom.
Edit:

Ohhh okay ^^ is it possible to install the rom at the sametime as i root? sorreh im newb at this :3:highfive:
After you root, make a backup of your rom. Before flashing (download rom to sd card-remember where it was stored), reboot in recovery.
Wipe data/factory reset.
Wipe dalvik.
Format all partitions (except sd card).
Install from sd card.
Flash rom (search for the download)
Reboot.
The above is sorta the correct way of doing it afterwards. Most of us don't do it.
Wait 5-10 minutes.
Reboot.
Configure all you need to configure.
Install your apps.
Reboot.
If you want to know the issues of a rom, read the op(first page) and read the last 5-10 pages.
All ics - jb roms have bugs. Won't be long till they are fixed.
Gb roms are stable on the most part.
Search for 4ext touch recovery, it's the prefered one.

Alright buddy, last one. After this you nees to start reading and searching for your own answers. Almost anything you can think of has already been posted.
It's called gapps. It's a zip file with several google apps. Flash the same as when you flash a rom. No wipe necessary.

jellytime is moving very fast towards stability...
Even now its beta 110 could be used as a daily driver if you ignore some minor things..Bluetooth is the only major problem in it..other than that,it is smooth and really good
TOTAL NOOB here been reading for months now [in the background] and just joined as i think ive finally worked up the courage to brick my HD.
I did see a question asking about "best roms" am after an easy stable and fully working combination tho, would love jellybean and fully understand its still in beta. I think more noobs would attempt stuff if it wasnt so damn confusing with regards options and bolt ons.
Ive been Useing JellyTime since yesterday and i love it, the only complaint i have at this moment is that when i lock the screen and unlock it after more than 5 min it takes up to 5-10 seconds for it to start. Maby fixed in new Beta 10. ill try install it later today or tomorrow.

The Desire HD/Inspire 4G are virtually un-brickable as long as you are not ENG-OFF. Once you start flashing roms it all will become like second nature. Everything will start to get easier(more confidence comes too ) Just keep doing what you are doing (reading the threads). I wish some people did this more before posting.

You need to use catchpa for about the first 10 posts. then it should disapear.
This ROM is outstanding. I started with Beta 8 and it was great–at least for the first few days before Beta 9 came out. And now that Beta 10 is out, I'm going to flash that ASAP.
Then great thing about this ROM is that Randomblame just can't seem to give himself any downtime, although he does find time to spend with his family. As long as the ROM works and he isn't going crazy from it, that's alright with me.

[Q] Phone Reboot

Hi everyone,
I seem to be having a problem with my One X, for the past hour the phone has been rebooting at random moments and its really p*issing me off!!
Its running stock ICS and all of the apps are installed from the play store so i don't think i have anything on it which is messing with it.
Is there anything i can do to stop this or do i need to wait for the Jellybean update and hope it will fix it?
I also heard that it might have something to do with my HBOOT which is 1.12 and i am waiting for 3 to update it!
Try to do a factory reset from bootloader first back up all ur data as factor reset vll erase everything
If the prob still exist take it to nearest HTC care centre
If I hve helped you press the thanks button ...

[Q] How do I improve battery life ie what tweaks work?

I'm using Snipers PACMAN, and battery just seems to drain way to fast. It is the latest push. Being newly registered on here I hate to introduce my self this way but I need advice. What tweaks are being used by people for the SPH-D710 to help with this issue? I originally started with the CM 10.1 rom and found I had no data, flashed a different modem. Still no data, switched roms and now have data....go figure! But the battery drain is killing me, I've got it throttled back as far as I can go and it still be a daily driver. So anyone have any suggestions?
Godlys Comadose Tweak pack works great:thumbup:

Most 4.2 Roms use ICS modems. As for battery us betterbatterystats found here on xda or gsam in the play store to determine if there's any rogue apps keeping the phone from sleeping. I also do manual syncing. Greenify is a great app to keep apps from running on their own. You can also use a custom kernel to limit max frequency and even undervolt. Kernels also come with different governors

After reading through the above posts you should have some useful ideas about what this governor does.Also...as for installing a governor, they will be included in the kernel that flashed with ur rom or a kernal of ur choosing(MAKE SURE IT WILL WORK WITH THE ROM YOU HAVE) Im new to this, so if there is another way I dont know about it. Do ur research... As for setting a governor.. There are many roms with built in performance controls as well as many apps to set them. I suggest (set cpu) . It has a setting that will make a zip so u can recover from ur settings if u bootloop. This is found after u install and give it root permission. Hit ur menu button and click SAFE MODE. This site is so great about that because there is just so much knowledge here to learn.I think some people get over-whelmed by it though or they are just unsure and need that go ahead push to know it works.
Ok since I can't ask a Dev a question about the kernel I want to install.....which I kinda understand, but being stuck not being able to ask questions about something specific after reading all the pages blows! (rant off) [Kernel] Lightning Zap! Phase 4 Updated 15JUN13 is causing a boot loop, I followed all the instructions to the letter, crossed every T, dotted all the I's. Thank god for backup! Since I can't ask the Dev a question I'm stuck!

Well, you're commenting on a thread about battery life, but not posting about battery life. That's not going to help you much.
I also read that you want to ask a question, but I don't see a question in your post. If you do have a question, a great place to post it would be here: [Official] One Stop FAQ Thread - Noob Friendly (All questions go here). Okay? :good:

Well let me clarify it for you, it's my thread. The original question is still valid being as I was pointed this direction by a reply to my original post. Let me lessen your confusion on this matter......What other steps can I take to increase battery life......scripts didn't seem to help and a tweaked kernel put me in a boot loop....and whom do I ask if not the DEV?

Hey bro, easy on the tone. Because there are so many ways to ask the question, the best way is to just spell it out how you did above. Battery life depends on the apps/ROM/user all at the same time. I am on Project X ROM. It has Crossbreeder installed. Now I am not no where informative about that app other than a lot of people like it. So with that being said and it is installed on the ROM, I leave it. I also have ROM Toolbox Pro. I have adjusted my CPU control to 1000MHZ. I also have DS Battery Saver Pro set to custom and to kill all apps when the screen goes off. Last the ROM I am on comes with Greenify. A great app in saving battery. I also turn off data and only have WIFI on when I need it. No need to just let things run. With that I have had 50% battery life left after 11 hrs. That is my setup and may not work for you. The main thing is to understand that battery life for EACH phone is different no matter how many common denominators people may have. Team Venum did a comparison of ROM's and their respective battery life. I don't know the post, but if you type "battery life" in the search, then I am sure you can find it. As for you response, I was in your shoes at one time. It does help to be specific in your questions. Not saying that you weren't. Reading each and every post will get tiresome, but if you type in what you want in the search, you will get a slew of post to get info. I have only been a member for 4 months, but I have learned how to flash a ROM, Mods, push and app, setup custom home screen. I have even been given the honor of testing a ROM. If you still need help, you can PM me and I will do what I can. Have a great one.

Thanks Gil, this is exactly what I have done.
1. flashed from 4.03 to WILD-FOR-THE-NIGHT-07052013-d710, had no data....tried to find a fix for that...gave up after trying tweaks to help with the battery issue and no data.
2. Clean install of d710_PAC_JB_4.2.2-v23.0.0_20130719-015400, now have intermittent data, wifi works, blutooth works, flashed Fl24 modem with no apparent improvement in data connectivity, thought after reading a kernel flash might fix issues, here comes the boot loop....flashed smdk4412_p4 waited patiently for 2hrs watching Pacman chasing ghosts.....booted into recovery and ran my backup tried it 2 more times on clean flashs gave up after 5 hrs. By clean I mean wipe/reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, install from zip.
3. this is how I installed the kernel:
Make a backup
Download .zip to PC
Transfer .zip to sdcard
Reboot to recovery
Flash
Phone automatically rebooted after install
waited and waited......boot back into recovery. restore by backup.
everything has been done with CWM based recovery. I'm stumped....frustrated to no end......

First off...I have had the lzp_4 boot loop on me. I pulled the battery, waited about 2 min. Put it back in and booted to recovery. Then I wiped cache and dalvik. Rebooted and it took off(booted fine). I have no idea why or how, but this worked for me. Now to my main concern. If you came straight from ics to a jb rom I think this is going to cause you issues, if you hadn't been on jb before. I suggest the one - click full restore(it wipes data,so back-up you're internal memory). This will get you're phone partition right for jb. After this. I think you should be able to flash what you want with no problems. I didn't see a problem with how you flashed. Wipe cache and dalvik on the kernal flashes you do.Here's the link for the one -click..
go to linked page and click on download ota at top of page
I would read through the page it sends you to well.Don't forget to thank those guys..Hope this helps.Hit me up if it doesn't.

Doing a one click restore worries me, I'm not on sprint any more and worried about losing my flash to my current carrier. Is this a concern I should have since I'm not used to working with odin? I'm more than willing to try another ROM also, I'm not locked into this by any means.....

The carrier should not matter if you are on an E4GT phone. But if your trying to go to a JB ROM, you will need to aupdate to GB** for your phone. For sprint it is GB27. Have you tried RWilco12's repository to see if your carrier is listed? Also QBKing77 has a lot of videos concerning this specific phone. How to flash specific ROMs and upgrading specific build, modems and such. Something has got to work for you.

Well now I'm stuck on Sprints 4G boot screen just keeps looping.....WTH.....I've never had a phone be a pain like this....guess I let it kill the battery and see what happens. Recovery is there, not cwm so can't even restore my backup. I'm just frustrated by this phone! Gill, bigmike any idea which way to turn now?

What ROM did you flash? Was it ICS or Jellybean? What carrier are you on. That was never revealed.
Never kill the battery. I sed you tried" Wild for the night" and Pac something. Can you get to recovery?
X'ed out the game
