[Q] Help. RECOVERY FAIL - Verizon HTC One (M7)

Hello everyone, i just a new member and try to unlock my HTC One verizon. After my phone was S-Off, i installed ruu for it. My phone can use on T-mobile or ATT. Then I made a mistake that i pressed recovery on bootloader. Now my phone just boot on logo HTC and recovery then loop in that. I meant just HTC logo, recovery and reset HTC logo, recovery and...I can not turn off my phone, and go to bootloader also. In recovery screen show "Restore for NV Verizon". Please help me just go to bootloader and turn off the phone.

Hope is out there!!!

Are you able to use volume down+power to reboot back to bootloader? If so...see if you're still S-OFF and if your bootloader is unlocked. If so I would recommend you follow this thread to get back to S-ON and locked boot loader on a stock rom. Then you can re-S-OFF and re-Unlock your bootloader.

Hope this helps!!!

why would you install a RUU for a carrier thatit doesn't support? that's just asking for your phone to be bricked

NEVER return your phone to s-on, there is NEVER a reason to unless you are sending it in for warranty. That is the worst advice anyone could possibly give on this forum.

From the bootloader, while hooked up to a pc, use fastboot command "fastboot oem rebootRUU" to enter RUU mode, then use "fastboot flash zip Rom.zip" to flash the correct RUU for your device. Here is a link to the RUU, just put it into your adb / fastboot folder, rename it Rom.zip, and follow those instructions. First attempt at flashing the RUU should fail, and you will have to enter the "fastboot flash zip Rom.zip" again, and it will work the second time(the first time it only sets partitions). Once it finishes and says complete, use command "fastboot reboot" and profit.
Here is a link to an RUU for the m7vzw that will work with any device that is s-off.
http://bit.ly/vzwone10
Hope that helps. ...and NEVER put your phone back to s-on, there is no reason to ever do that. Nothing on the planet requires your phone to be s-on, but almost everything requires you to have s-off. The ONLY reason to EVER go back to s-on is to send in for a warranty replacement.

Thanks guys for helping. I could not do anything to it because I could not go to bootloader. Finally I just sent my phone to HTC that they can repair or fix it, whatever. Thank anyway.

Bricked my phone badly

ok so i wanted to get a custom rom my desire hd 2.3.5
at start i have tryed the old way thats in the sticky but that was for 2.3.4 so that didnt work.
what did work was unlocking the bootloader via htc dev site. after that i was clueless.
I've found AAK to root my phone and downgrade so i had used that, but i forgot that the phone was unlocked and it said it had to be locked.
and now the phone is bricked i've tried all possible ways with wiping data and cache but it doesnt work.
i wanted to relock the bootloader with fastboot.
i had entered this command:
fastboot oem lock
but that gave this error
FAILED (status malformed (1 bytes))
so my phone hangs on the boot screen and i cant do anything?
can you guys please help me?
The fact you can get to the bootloader is a great sign, so don't worry! The only time you need to properly panic is when you can't get anything on the screen or even a charge light.
---Double check with someone else that this is correct, but I think this is what you need to do ---
Do you have a custom recovery (i.e clockworkmod)? Can you boot into recovery? Use the volume keys to select recovery, then press the power button. If you get options like "reboot now" and "install zip from sd card" then flash a rom like Android Revolution HD.
If you get a red triangle, find a zip you want to flash and name it "PD98IMG.zip" then put it on the root of the SD card. Reboot to bootloader and it should flash.
If you truly want to relock the bootloader, flash an RUU and it will restore you to stock.

Simply renaming a ROM PD98IMG.zip wont work it needs to be formatted in a certain way, but if the phone is S-OFF, which wasn't mentioned there are certainly PD98IMG's about for a variety of ROMs. But I suspect Tamens suggestion of flashing the appropriate RUU and starting from scratch is going to be quickest way to get sorted
I had this same problem with mine it got stuck trying to boot up but I had no boot loader or I couldn't get into recovery.so download a took called ANDROID FLASHER and reflash the radio ect.my desire hd is now fine.
Sent from my HTC Sensation XL with Beats Audio X315e using XDA App
well i have tried to flash the ruu but without succes.
ive loaded the PD98IMG.zip on the sd and let the bootloader use it. nothing happened.
also my phone is s-on and could not find a way to go to s-off in recovery mode or boatloader.
Down load the tool above Android flasher.from the tool u can enable fast boot ect from your PC and loads of other stuff.it is a very simple to use and it has loads of folders for recovery, boot loader ect let it do every thing for u.that was the only thing that worked for me
Sent from my HTC Sensation XL
I've tried it but it doesn't work because my phone is s-on...
the description of that utility said that s-off is essential
i am really running out of options..
in short my phone has a unlocked bootloader and after that i've used AAK.
the result is bricked phone with s-on and unlocked bootloader

[Q] Stuck at HTC logo...

Tried to go from S-ON to S-OFF but it failed while updating phone with firmware.zip. Cmd said it was done but phone showed no activity. Rebooted phone and its stuck at HTC logo. Found a way to boot to bootloader but instead of going straight to recovery to restore what I had, I first re unlocked bootloader. Now im stuck at HTC logo with no way to get to bootloader (volume down key not working). Im not a complete noob, just new to this phone. Have tried to use adb to boot into bootloader and recovery but it is not being found by my pc. Is there any way of forcing phone into bootloader? I would appreciate any help given
EDIT : FIXED

Possibly bricked my m8?

I had a HTC M8 with HTC developers edition installed 4.12
I tried to flash install SuperSU and it rebooted.. now the phone is completely unresponsive
no HTC logo, can't turn it off, can't turn it on.
I'm really hoping someone can help me recover my phone?
By the way, I am basically a noob with Androids.
update
if i hold the power button down + volume up / down
it will reboot with HTC logo , powered by android.
it then goes to a blank screen.
delete
Have you done a backup previous to rooting it, and with SU version did you use?
If you've got a backup you could try holding Vol+ and power as long until the screen goes dark, then in this exact moment switch to holding Vol- and hold it until the bookcases comes up.
Now you can go to recovery and restore the backup. If you have accomplished that use a cmd and enter the fastboot getvar all command and post it here, without IMEI and Serial No. Maybe one can find a RUU to flash back to Stock.

hi guys, thanks for your replies.
I spent all day googling, trying to figure out how to fix it and haven't been successful yet. I'll tell you what I did.
If I tried to hold down the volume buttons and power buttons, it would restart the phone, the HTC logo would appear and then the screen would go blank, so
I installed ADB and Fastboot on my computer, and I was able to type
ADB reboot-bootloader and that brought up the Fastboot / HBoot menu
I then flashed TWRP to the phone, and tried to install a new version of the Developers Edition from HTC using their RUU (from their website) but it failed.
Last ditch effort, was trying to flash SkyDragon but there was not enough space on my phone so it failed with a 'Not enough Space' error.
I then read some instructions that mentioned deleting the cache, so I did this, but now, when I connect my phone to ADB, it always says OFFLINE and I can't connect to fastboot or ADB.
I am really hoping I haven't made it even worse.

Hi,
Unfortunately I didn't make any backups, mainly because I use auto-sync to the cloud.
I followed your instructions and got to the recovery menu
It says:
** Software status: Modified **
M8_UL PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-3.19.0.0000
Radio-1.25.214500021.0GG
OpenDSP-V48.2.2.000564-M8974_FO.1211
OS-4.16.401.10
emmc-boot 2048mb
Ok will check if there is a RUU to be found tomorrow morning and report back what to do after it.

Hold both power button + volume up, when the screen turn blank, release both button and hold & press volume down button. This will take you to hboot.
Select recovery then try again to install SuperSU 2.65 or 2.64 (don't use any other version)
When done, reboot but when TWRP offer to install root, don't install.. just reboot
and see how it goes.
If still unsuccessful, relock bootloader and install the Dev Ed RUU - http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-m8/news/

Just forget it ... your post #1 made me believe that you have a Dev Edition but your other post show you have a EU device.
I already deleted my previous post, so ignore it .. won't work for you.
Just wait for the other guy's help
Or ... seeing you're not sure how to use a RUU based on your above post, I suggest that you restore a 4.16.401.10 stock non-rooted backup and its matching recovery (no need to relock bootloader) then do OTA to 4.16.401.13
You can get all the files and How-To in my thread linked in my signature
Then you can install any custom Dev ED Marshmallow ROM that available in Development section if you want to, no need to root as they are pre-rooted.
Or you can root the stock ROM with no problem with the root offer in TWRP.

So here we go. You can download the RUU here here. It's an executable for Windows PC. Start your M8 into bootloader, connect it to your PC and execute the file I posted in my link. This will help you to get back to a full stock International M8.

Thank you.
I booted my M8 into Bootloader and then ran the file, unfortunately, I get an error:
ERROR 155 Unknown Error
When I follow the on screen instructions from the RUU, which tells me to remove the USB, the Bootloader screen appears
on my phone and it says 'Security Fail'
RUU
Is this because I modified by phone after I bought it?
It's an EU phone from Romania, but I later went to the HTC site and unlocked it and installed the Developers edition onto it, at least I thought I did.
Have you relocked your bootloader prior to executing the file? Has to be done for a RUU to work on an M8. When in bootloader start a CMD on your PC and navigate to your adb folder. Then type "fastboot oem lock" and right away "fastboot reboot bootloader" to verify that it says relocked at the top. If so execute the RUU once more.
BTW don't remove it from USB while flashing until flash has been completed otherwise the flash is going to fail.

i bricked my m8 while tring to flash marshmallow in it with twrp now its stuck in the swiring screen ...i left it there till it died..the real issue is that my voulme down isnt working..is there anyway i can enter recovery?
Only if the M8 ist recognized by adb and fully booted, as then you could reboot to recovery by "adb reboot recovery".
But as I understood you are now on stock again by RUU aren't you!?
It's a risk to try to flash Custom Recovery and ROM, without been able to boot to bootloader by using hardware buttons, as if you get stuck again there won't be an easy way out of it.

He can't be stock by RUU because a RUU is not flashed via TWRP. And he never mentioned to try to flash a custom recovery, he's already on TWRP. And an issue with the volume rocker is always a problem, on a perfectly stock device or a custom modded one.....issue stays the same

HTC 10 Bootloop

Hello,
So the other day i booted into twrp to make a backup of my data and after i did so, i was not able to boot into anything but bootloader ever since and the phone is mostly stuck in bootloop.
I have fastboot in bootloader but nothing seems to work. i can't boot into recovery, download mode, RUU mode or system.
So i downloaded a firmware.zip and started flashing whatever was inside (this includes: boot, aboot, hosd, radio, recovery, venus, cota, cradio ...) but again no luck.
is there anything i can do from bootloader to fix this? maybe hboot? or should i just throw the phone away?(i have no access to htc customer services)
phone specs:
US Unlocked
1.80.617.1
S-OFF
Locked
Try installing a fresh, oficial RUU direct from HTC. Isn't that done via Fastboot? Bootloader has to be unlocked and then you just do fastboot commands to push the RUU, or files needed.

On htc US website there are RUU.exe you could use. It flashes RUU from your computer. Not sure what mode your phone has to be in tho.

Well, I've pretty much managed to screw up my HTC 10. I'm on the latest 3.16.401.2 WWE, S-ON, with the bootloader relocked and stock recovery. I can access the download mode, the bootloader and the stock recovery, but I can't unlock the bootloader since I can't active the OEM unlock option. The phone doesn't boot, it's stuck in a bootloop at the white HTC logo.
Using the OTA available for WWE gives me the Status 7 fail error. Is there anything else I can do, besides from waiting for the Oreo WWE RUU?
Thanks in advance.

I won't even ask how or why....
But yes you could S-off or wait for an RUU to magically appear.
Those are the two options.

I can't S-Off without being able to boot the phone, so well, I'll probably just wait for a RUU.
HTC 10 boot loop
Hello guys,
my wife yesterday tried to update OTA (our htc 10 are completely stock) to OREO from Nougat 2.41.401.41. Something went wrong and it's stuck in a boot loop. I can get in bootloader and tried to install the ota, which I downloaded, manually from SD card, but after verifying it says "error: partition has unexpected content". Is there a way to get the phone back working even with data loss? Thanks really for the help, the phone has never been modified, I am getting crazy reading the forums but I am a total noob ?
i have seen i need a ruu, possibly zip since I can't boot and activate USB debug. Can someone please share a run.zip link at least equal to 2.41.401.41 (European)? Thank you very much
I have the same issue, HTC 10 in a boot loop after applying the OTA Oreo update. I'm able to get into bootloaders and such, but i need the data thats on the phone... Allready tried taking out the SIM and SD-card. Does anyone know if this can be fixed?
Same problem here!
After Reading what the rest of you lot mentioned here, i have the exact same problems! Installed the update from Nougat to Oreo, and the phone went into bootloader! I was stupid enough to delete most of it through TWRP, and even dumber to RELOCK it so that TWRP is out of the Picture. Download mode appears, but the recovery just brings me back to bootloader. Oh yes, and the OS is missing.
and fastboot / adb wont recognize the HTC Connected to the PC anymore.. Guess this is a total Brick? should i send it back since i have a warranty? Will they be able to fix this?
I too was stupid and relocked it while reverting to stock. At this point I had also flashed the stock recovery and recovered to what turned out to be a non-functional backup. (Stuck in boot-loop)
Thankfully Fastboot did however still work while in download mode, and I was able to unlock it again by flashing the same unlock_token.bin that I have kept since I unlocked it the first time, slapped in twrp again and I was good for another go.
M8 can you help out linking some procedure for a noob like me? Should I use a ruu? I am completely stock
I'm no expert in this my self just FYI, but installing a RUU is usually a straight forward process.
You need to download a ruu for your particular CID (Depens on where the phone was sold and what -if any- carrier the phone is locked to.)
I have an european unlocked one so the RUU I used was this: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=817550096634797504
You can find more in this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/how-to/stock-stock-collection-recovery-ruu-ota-t3359297
Download the ruu (just short of 2GB in size) , rename it to 2PS6IMG.zip and put it in the root of an SD-card and insert it into the phone.
Reboot it into download mode by holding power+volume down until the grey HTC logo appears.
It should now detect the zip file in the sd-card and ask you to install it. Press volume up to confirm.
This will re-install everything (System image, recovery, firmware etc) all existing data gets destroyed.
Worked like a charm for me, and was able to do a Oreo OTA right away after the first boot.
Thanks a lot for your help, I'll give you a feedback asap.

I have an Indian HTC 10 (SD 820) full stock, no modifications. One day the phone froze and i restarted it and from that day it hasn't booted up. The htc logo shows up while it vibrates, then again the same screen. Stuck in a bootloop. When i get to bootloader and boot to recovery, the grey htc logo comes for 1 second and then it goes back to the original boot animation and it loops again until the phone dies. Whenever i plug my phone to the charger, it immediately gets stuck into the boot loop. Please help me !! Any fix please !

Hold the power button and the volume down button to reboot to download mode. From there you can flash an RUU.zip to fix it.
What is needed to direct you to the proper RUU.zip to download and flash is for you to boot to download mode and post here what it says next to "OS"
