[Q] Sense Keyboard Problem - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey there.
I bought a HTC One M8 and it's a great phone to use and I'm very happy for bought it. But I have a problem with Sense 6.0. Keyboard is crashing one or two times per day, depends on using time. What I mean with crashing is, firstly predictions become invisible. When I press icon button on keyboard, nothing happens but when i press somewhere on keyboard after I press icon button, icon get pressed. When i close keyboard with back button, keyboard is unable to open again and I'm going to settings and resetting calibiration, and calibirating again. this is very tiring thing you know. My Phone is S-on and Using HTCs' orginal ROM. I have used HTC Sensation before M8 with ViperS ROM and same was happening with that. How can I solve this problem without change my keyboard. I really like look of Sense keyboard and I dont want to use swiftkey or another keyboard.
Thanks.

[Q] Does long hold search key work for you when keyboard is open?

Okay so recently I scored my G2. Had it about 2 weeks and then I rooted. I have my long hold search key set to quickdesk. It works perfectly while my physical keyboard is closed and slid in using the touch search button(the last one along the four touch keys at the bottom of the phone near the trackpad). One day I wanted to try holding the search key on my physical keyboard to see if it would pop up still. It didn't pop op. I then tried to do the long hold search key on the touch search button while the keyboard was still open and it didn't work either. I even hard resetted my phone to see if I could return the option to have long hold search work whether my physical keyboard is opened or closed. I don't even remember if it ever worked like that in the first place. I was wondering if anyone other G2 owners out there have this feature. The feature being to use your long hold search key option when the physical keyboard of the phone is slid out. Thank you for reading. I apologize for the length but I wanted to be detailed in hopes that someone could try it out themselves.
umm that was pretty confusing but I'll post my results...
I'm running stock G2 rooted.
Keyboard out = nothing.
Keyboard in = speak now voice search thing that I never use.
I've noticed ever since I rooted that my swype no longer works.
Never used it either so I really don't care for it
Hmmm, still confusing? I tried my best to explain. I think the biggest part was differentiating between the touch search button and the one on the physical keyboard. Nd yeah, I think it might have had something to do with my root because I'm almost positive it worked before. Its not that big of a deal I guess but if I could have the feature back, I do have a few uses for it.
tried physical and touch key when slid out.
Only opens up the voice thing with touch key when closed cuz I can't really try the physical when it's closed XD
Cool, thanks for replying back so fast. Hopefully someone replies that isn't rooted already, which would suck for them of course ; ), but I just want to know if my root process caused me to lose this feature

Keyboard Acting Weird

Sometimes this has happened to me and I was wondering on how to fix it and if anyone else has had this issue. Recently when I am in an app and I try to use my Hard keyboard if I press any of these keys it launches an app
(e - email
l - calender
p - don't recall.
g - gmail)
Anyone else see this ever. Usually I just use the onscreen keyboard when this happens and later it works again. This happened to me in the facebook app and also in dolphin browser.

Check Applications --> Quick Launch and see if you have any keys assigned to those apps.
It's my quick launch I think my search key was acting like it was pressed even though it wasn't. Thank you. Most have been stuck. Thank you.
It happens when you press the app key once by accident on the top left of the keyboard. Press it again and it turns off the shortcuts.
The app key? Which one is that? This happens to me a lot and I just mash on the keyboard until it goes away. I also am having problems with the keyboard not working at all. Sometimes I open the phone up and the whole keyboard stops working and I have to reboot the phone.
Also once I was on Dolphin browser and I was logging into Google plus and my numbers were acting funny. I could not press the ALT button to activate the numbers I had to hold the ALT then press the numbers. I thought that was weird.

Do you know any way to disable Quick Launch? Or maybe disabling all the pre-assigned things? --Do Not Want--
Thanks

Long press on the shortcut and it should give you an option to clear it.

The default shortcuts are the search button plus a letter. It happened to me once, and after pushing the search button on the top right of my keyboard a few times, everything started working fine again. Hope that helps.

Keyboard not working...at all
Hey all
CM11, official with apps installed the Captivate Glide physical keyboard is hit or miss. Since the physical keyboard is the WHOLE REASON to try to modify this older phone, its functionality is important. Physical keyboard ALT commands (#'s etc) do not work in any application. The letter keys works...sometimes. I have used default keyboard settings and have no idea whehter there is a fix on the main CM11 thread.
Many thansk!:good:
Alt is a non stick key

Well the thing is alt in cm11 is not a sticky key but its non stick . What i mean by that is that if you wanna type '1'. Keep 'ALT' pressed and hit the number '1' in blue on the keyboard. the alt key dosent seem to stick for some reason.
this is actually cause of the google ime treating our physical qwerty as a desktop keyboard i think where alt is also non stick.

"Alt" doesn't work at all -- even if held during typing. I will keep searching for keyboard fixes I guess. Since the keyboard is 100% of the reason to use the Captivate Glide, it's utility is a major issue. Many thanks for your reply!

Just happened again!

So about five or six times now my keyboard has gone a bit crazy. When I slide out the keypad to answer a text or whathaveyou my keys do their own thing. Like I hit one button and it does something else. Most of the keys become shortcuts like for apps or start an online search.
Shutting the keyboard and hitting home or back then trying again has the same effect.
If I reboot the phone all is well. Haven't had a chance to do a logcat or really bother to test at all but just curious if this ever has happened to others.
Oh and this has never happened on an aosp rom or miui, just cyanogen based roms.

I've had this happen to me as well, It has something with the ATL/Menu keys I slipped and accidentally pressed one of them and some of the keys changed to short keys.
Only thing I could recommend is to reflash or SuperWipe. Being that your a CM7 user have you experienced any double spacing when you press the space key? When I press it instead of a single space its doing a double space not all the time but enough where it gets annoying.

mine used to the above on gingerbread... have not experienced it recently tho
Go to Settings - > Apps - > Quick Launch. Disable everything. Done.

Keyboard language change button is annoyingly placed?!?

Am I the only one who keeps accidentally pressing the keyboard language change button while typing and then having to press it again a million times to get back to English?!?
Is there not a way to lock the keyboard language so it doesn't change? This is really bugging me, happens about once a day to me.

First thing I did when I got the phone was to download "ICS Keyboard" off the market. It's a big improvement!
I had the same problem until I installed the SmartKeyboard. I'm still getting used to it, but I would recommend it so far!

How were you able to change the keyboard? I've changed it in settings, then tried to bring up the popup by pressing down in the messaging app, I never get a prompt?

Change Home/Fingerprint button behavior

I just got a HTC10 to upgrade from the M9 I had, and so far, I'm liking it, even with the stock ROM (but rooted with Sprint bloatware frozen), but one thing I haven't been able to figure out is the home/fingerprint button behavior. If I'm at the home screen and I press it, I don't have a huge issue with it bringing up all the screens for me to pick which one I want (but long press for it would be better), but I find it annoying that when I am in an app and press it, it takes be to the screen where I have to select which page I want, rather than to the last one I was on. Is there a way that I am overlooking to change this behavior?

I think you mean the multitask button rather than the home button, and if you double press it it switches back to the previous app.

I think you are correct... but why why should I have to press the button once to get where I need a few more presses to get where I want or press it once plus still need few more presses to get where I want? Is there any way to change this misbehavior?
I guess you could say my annoyance with this (mis)behavior is related to muscle memory... Every other Android phone I've had would take you to your last 'home' page when you pressed the similar button.. This one is (mis)behaving differently from every other phone I've had... It woudl be really nice to change it.
FWIW, I was finally able to change the behavior of the home/multi-function/fingerprint button - by ditching the HTC ROM for LinageOS 14.1. Better battery life, no sprint junk, seems to run better overall and I can actually assign different ringtones or sounds to different contacts. For whatever reason, that option seemed to be absent on the HTC ROM.
I still don't get what behavior you mean? Or do you mean that when you press the home button you are taken to the standard home screen, instead of for example the app drawer or another home screen page? Quite confusing what you mean
