Help - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I heard some people saying who gets update for lg g3 by ota and its just 48mb that means your phone unbranded..what does that mean??
Sent from my LG-D855 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

What are you asking?
What is an OTA?
What is unbranded?
An OTA is "over the air" and is a way for your firmware to be updated.
Unbranded means your phone was not associated with any particular network or carrier - basically meaning it was brought "sim free".

I mean like when you go to settings>about phone> software update .. I updated my software today and the size of the update was 43mb but some people got update size 178mb.. And they was saying who got update and the size was 43mb it means that your phone unbranded

It depends where you are situated, different regions have got different updates that fix different things, most fixes are things relating to radio and cell tower connections.
Vodafone branded devices had an update that fixed something specifically for their network.
the 43mb update seems most common and suggests that there was nothing on your device that really needed fixing beyond whatever the "power optimisation" is that they have done.

[Q] galaxy nexus updates if imported

If I import it and lets say there was an update tomorrow or in the future how would I get the update since its unlocked and its not branded. I know there straight from Google but how do they push the update if I were to activate it on T-Mobile? someone please tell me. How does this go about for this phone
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
It will just be automatically updated. I'm in the u.s. on T-Mobile also and when the nexus one came out people from all over the world exported and they all received the updates at the same time. It does matter what country, network speed or if you are on wifi.

I learned this from the old nexus one forum that Google used to have.

Your device periodically checks in with Google's servers. It matters not what carrier you are on. Updates are sent out based on IMEI.

Qestion about 4.02 Update

Hi
This might be a silly question, but the OTA updates, assuming that you have a nexus, doesn't depend on the mobile operator, right?
I bought mine in Italy on contract and its the Google build, Yakju and still havent got the update....
My çarrier iis fastweb, they need to allow the update? Phone is sim free....
Thanks
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
well, from what i had been told in the past(at least with HTC devices anyway) is that the manufacturer is the one that "pushes" the updates... although i'm not sure if that's 100% accurate with all manufacturers. i wouldn't doubt if the originally assigned service provider would be left with the final word in getting it released.
in this case, since you haven't received the update then i'd assume it's the carrier pushing it & since you're on an unlocked one on a different carrier, it would then be up to your specific carrier to have the phone registered in their system and then start pushing updates.
in either case, i'd recommend just manually applying an updated gsm rom.
that's what i do with any phone. never install official updates, just root & install custom roms whenever i wish.
*btw this thread's probably going to get moved to Q & A
Your phone should receive updates directly from Google. Just keep checking or try to force it. If all else fails, you xan install a custom rom. I'm staying away from them for now though.

Porting would be a ton of work and likely lots of bugs. By the time it's usable official 4.4.2 would likely be out.
March 3, that's the date someone on Sprint Community forums posted. But don't know myself for sure. Last time they said that it actually happened so it maybe real.

Hopefully that's true, because it gives time for devs to find a root/boot unlock method by the time it drops. That way can just OTA and be good to go...hopefully.

Sorry to say you should have gotten the Verizon one if you wanted gsm compatability in US as well, I hear there are problems using the LS980 on other US carriers. Besides Verizon version also has wireless charging, only downside is small buttons and that hideous Verizon emblem lol.
No i prefer this one. Im using it on tmo and the problems are no big deal. I got it for 140 and i can still use it with sprint if i want...

Whenever Sprint gets it... it will be at least 4.2 years before I do bc I have verizon and verizon won't release kitkat until google agrees to change the name from KitKat to Android AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint Can Suck It. And my update has to make my device apply no less than 47 more verizon logos to itself.

I don't know for sure, but I think our mount points are different. Why would you want to flash a ul firmware? The wlv firmware is SIM unlocked and you can use any SIM in it.

As I said, it may cause your phone to be a brick. You can use a Verizon one on any network, just input your carrier APN with your carrier's SIM. You can install any GPE or aosp Rom and it will not have Verizon apps on it iirc.

I honestly don't think so. A: the radios are different. The Verizon one doesn't support any 4G band except 700mhz 13 and it only supports certain hspa and edge frequencies. So it isn't the same hardware wise.
@santod040 might be able to verify my assumption that flashing an international firmware can possibly brick your device.

The firmware from international model will not work, as to it bricking...........no idea on that note(i don't see any reason to find out either, since it won't work for sure). But I know that only VZW firmware will work on the m7vzw. As Uzephi said - the hardware is different.
No it will not work and you will most likely brick by flashing international firmware onto a Verizon one. The radio hardware is different thus making the firmware totally different. Do not do it.

Santod takes the rom from those devices and ports it to this device. Firmware is a totally different beast altogether.

Stuck on old update

Hi,
I've been waiting for the MM update but for some reason the OTA is not pushing through. I noticed that the build number is an old build (ending AO16) back in November. Is there a reason why my phone is not getting any updates at all?
Thanks
Also not rooted and never have on this phone...

Have you tried a factory reset? If that doesn't solve it I would say a new SIM card.
The pe6 Odin file is available in a thread over in the general section so you could always go that route too.

Go to this link and flash pe6 to your device using Odin, then you can receive OTA's.
The easiest solution is to call AT&T and ask them to push the missing updates to your phone.
Okay, thanks guys!
