[Q] T-Mobile LG G3 On ATT network - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I have an ATT LG G3 from work, but I am really missing the Qi Wireless charging that I am currently using on my other phones and tablets. Has anyone tested a T-Mobile phone on ATT's network? Im thinking about getting a t-Mobile phone and then using it on ATT, but just want to make sure people were still able to get Voice, Data/LTE, SMS, MMS, etc. Any thoughts?

Works fine. Just no band 5 lte which they don't really use much anyway.

I'm getting more bars on my T-Mobile G3 on AT&T than I did with the AT&T G3.

No. If you compare two phones running the same network side by side the T-Mobile one will show more bars but has the same decibal.

What are your settings for the data? I'm unable to get on the LTE network on mine.
T-Mobile LG G3 on AT&T. AT&T tech support said the phone isn't registering as an LTE device and isn't being allowed to access those bands

No dice for me. Still only jumping on the 4G network without LTE. It sees the bands, but can't join them.

Have you tried rebooting? Sometimes it either takes a while after putting in the APN or it takes a reboot for it to kick in.

Yep rebooted as well.
Don't know if this is relevant or not, when I call into AT&T tech support, they can't see what type of phone it is. They say thats why it's not getting LTE service. Do I need to root and change my build.prop to show the model of d850?

Yes. It is.
Anyone got it working on AT&T yet?
If so, where did you order it from?
There is nothing special about AT&T in this case. Just insert the SIM and input the APN settings manually and you should be good to go.
You shouldn't even need to do anything manually. Just pop the SIM and away you go.

Take comfort in the fact that you will get HSPA+ connectivity on both tmobile and at&t thanks to the pentaband radio. APN settings are really no big deal, especially if your on an android geek site such as this

[Q] Force Roaming GSM Networks

My phone service, (i wireless), has mostly EDGE in the service area which really pisses me off.
I live in Garner and sadly I can't user Verizon's LTE which is available in the area because it is CDMA.
Anyway, I'm usually in a town which has AT&T in it (not Garner) and they offer 3G/4G.
I don't care if you think AT&T isn't the best, or is slow.
i wireless is having major network improvements this year and until I get 4G; I want AT&T.
How can I acquire their service, I want to force roam to them.
Can someone tell me how to do this?
I am running Android 4.1.2 (CM10).
Thanks!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/sitesearch.php?q=force roam at&t
WOAH ZOMG SO HELPFUL.
Honestly, that was really helpful.
I've already searched; that's why I'm asking here.
I've tried other methods.
Most force roaming is with CDMA networks.
Thanks for being so helpful.
Someone who actually knows help me please!

your APN settings are tied to the simcard.
the phone has nothing to do with roaming, your sim determines where you can and cant access towers (except for emergency calls, those are always allowed)

But even if there's nothing but AT&T for a service and I try and select it, it won't work.

you need a sim that connects to the ATT network. you are using a provider that uses tmobile.
you're trying to do something with the phone that has NOTHING to do with the phone.
EDIT: also if you want 4g LTE through att, you will never have it as the phone does not support LTE in the GSM variant.

prepaid plans generally do not let you roam. if they do, its usually voice only.

I didn't mean to come off defensive, I'm just tired.
My plan isn't prepaid either, it's post paid.
AT&T comes up as a network option and I have used it before on previous phones.
Did you ever get this figured out? I have the exact same problem as you. I also have iwireless and have the slow 2g when 4g signal is low. I am looking to force roam on AT&T when I don't have iwireless 4g. Hoping to hear back. Thanks

[Q] Can't get unlocked ATT S3 to pick up Tmobile data.

I live in Tampa, a place that has had the 1900mhz 3/4g on tmobile network for a while source: androidandme dot com/2012/12/carriers/t-mobile-upgrades-14-new-metro-areas-to-4g-hspa-on-1900-mhz-band
Now I got my unlock code straight from ATT over the phone, told them I was going overseas on business), and unlocked the phone perfectly fine. Put in my net10 Tmobile sim, and activated and updated the apn. I can make/recieve calls, send and recieve text AND MMS PICTURES, but when I try to use data I only get the "G" symbol and slow as **** speeds (like .07mbs down)
Any way to fix this? I know it should work but its just not.
Sorry bout the (dot) com thing, wont let me post links and it's kinda important.
Alright, after flashing a new modem I get "E" instead of just G and slightly better speeds.... and by better I mean about ~0.15mb/s ._.

Before we go into too much troubleshooting, check your imei. Settings > about phone > status
That's sounds like a what happens with a Verizon phone on at&t. In don't think the bands are compatible that net10 leases. I think it also varies greatly by area. Straight talk would be the best for a prepaid using an at&t phone

I looked there and I don't know what you mean by check it, but it is the correct numbers in the settings, and it matches the back of the phone... Also I don't know what IMEI SV means (software version maybe?) but it says 2.

Net10's website simply says any unlocked GSM phone operating on 850 and 1900 MHz bands, which this phone does, and T-Mobile upgraded their towers last year from 1700 to 1900 in Tampa, so it should work just fine.
Is there any way for me to check what bands a phone is currently using? If so I can check on my brothers phone which is a T-Mobile phone running on Net10. If I could check what band's it's actually using for the 4g it's receiving then I can confirm for a fact that the problem is on my end.
Either way though, thanks for your help guys, I appreciate it.
EDIT: After about two hours searching I cannot find a way to find out exactly what band he is using, however I realized since his is a T-Mobile phone it would probably show 1700 either way. I need someone with a iPhone or other GSM in Tampa to confirm I guess... Kinda a problem tho.

Huh, Well I installed the last one on that list and it works!!! I get 4g and first speedest hit 8.5 down 1.5 up. Not too shabby compared to 0.15 on edge lolol
So I guess now my question is how did you do it? What if anything did you change and why does 4g not work at all on CM10.1? Curious.
For me I had to do a factory data reset, once I did it worked perfectly on the stock rooted ROM.

I haven't done anything to my wifes phone for over a week, I think its tmobile antenna, which I use simplemobile..
I noticed my s3 would work downtown tampa, but not where I live in town and country... all around my area I was getting E... for a brief second or so I would see 4g and it would change immediately to E.
so I changed the following step last night to make both phones work and got 4g..
in settings... more settings... wireless and networks... mobile networks.. NETWORK MODE= Changed to WCDMA ONLY... seemed to do the trick.. I never had to do that before..

Well I was too hasty before, my phone only gets 4g in a couple spots out and about Tampa. Most of the time it's only Edge, which leads me to believe it is in fact just T-Mobile sucking.
I tried that WCDMA setting and that disconnects me from mobile networks completely. Like if I was in airplane mode.

Anyone using this phone on ATT

I'm considering buying the TMO variant to use on AT&T as well and I have a few questions related to this topic:
Would service reception be restricted to just LTE or can the T-Mobile S4 still receive AT&T's E, 3G, etc as well when used on AT&T's network?
Also, and I'm sure this is dependent on the answer to my first question, would the T-Mobile S4 work with the AT&T 3G Microcell?
Whos Lte is faster tmobiles or att.

hard to answer; it really depends on the area, but for the most part im pretty confident in saying t-mobiles LTE is faster.
see attached photo
I've been using the T-Mobile version on AT&T for a few days. I unlocked using the debug menu instructions in this forum, setup the AT&T LTE APN and set the preferred network to LTE. It works fine on LTE, hspa, etc.
Speed test results were 53Mb down, 19Mb up, 66ms ping in Raleigh, NC.
I gave away my microcell with my POS iPhone because the Samsung phones performed OK without it. So, I can't answer whether the T-Mobile version will work correctly with a microcell.

Hi all,
I have a Galaxy S4 I9500, I keep my brightness at full all the time. When I finish playing games even "subway surfer" for 10 minutes, and exit to the desktop, I find that brightness is lowered alittle bit & increase gradually to the previous state which is full brightness (from 5 to 10 seconds). Could this be a result of that when playing games, the device uses the 1.6 quad core CPU and upon exit it takes alittle time (those 5 to 10 seconds) to shift to the 1.2 quad core CPU?
Really need your help.
Thanks alot.
So it seems this is the perfect phone to use on AT&T due to all that bootloader problems and crap on the AT&T version.
So folks still running fine without issues with this device on AT&T's network? I know LTE bands over lap so those are fine and the specs for the other frequencies all line up too but any problems with any data or voice stuff at this point after more time has passed? Including text and media messaging?

I had left an area with LTE coverage before I was able to network unlock, so I can't comment as to how LTE is working... but I've had no problems using it on Edge or 3G, texting/mms, etc. It even works flawlessly on my Microcell with no modifications other than the network unlock.

Mohan,
Which phone are you getting? The T-mobile version or the Google S4? I read online that the Google version of S4 is the same as the T-mobile version. I'm a T-mobile customer but I want to follow you using the Embryo rom on your new phone selection and hopefully get wifi-calling feature. I'm currently using the Embryo rom on my T989. Thanks.
adding an APN ... issues
lemme ask what will undoubtedly be a noob question. i've unlocked my T-Mo S4. confirmed. i popped in my AT&T iPhone 5's SIM card and boot up. i see that i have a signal, am able to make and receive phone calls. but no data. when i look at the APN, i'm seeing Cingular APN. what gives? i thought the phone would auto-detect and attach to the correct APN and i'd be good-to-go. thoughts? do i need to manually add the APN? I have all of the info necessary. when i try to add the APN, i am able to get to the proper menu, add all of the info. however, when i try to "save" the info, it never shows up as an APN for me to select. so whatever info i've just entered was never saved.
help!

No lte on my galaxy s4

I have a completely stock galaxy s4. I never get LTE though. My girlfriends s4 gets it just fine and in the same exact location I still only have hsps+. What's the deal? I have the settings configured correctly and everything. There's zones where my phone just drops all data, before it reconnects. My first s4 had this problem, so I got it replaced at T-Mobile, and it still has the same problem. Customer service says everything on their end is working fine. I even had them boot my phone off the network and Put my phone back on and still. What's going on? Faulty LTE radio?
Could be a faulty micro sim card as well.

I had the sim card swapped out for a new one as well at T-Mobile and it didn't fix anything. I'll try using my gfs sim later tonight.

Nope, says hspa: 11. I turned the call over WiFi feature and still the same.

That's right. Although, when I try to edit the APN everything is greyed out. It doesn't let me edit anything. Probably a safety feature so people don't ruin the stock APN. But yes, its the correct apn

Not to hijack the OP's thread...but should users be modifying the APN or is that pushed from tmo automatically? I'm sitting on epc.tmobile.com, and getting LTE (LTE:14, guessing 13/14 is the band?) Is it worth manually modifying the APN?

I tried both. For some reason, I get faster speeds with epc then fast.

The band is 4/2100mHz I believe. Or 1700mHz. Fotlr the same reason that hspap:15 and hspa:11 I have n9 idea why lte:14

So I tried my gfs sim and LTE worked. So its not the phone. Called tmobile tech and they said everything was good on their end. I got my sim card replaced again. A ttmoile worker said it could just be my line. That shell have to close my line and start a new one. For feee of course
