[Q] Sound doesn't work - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I'll just flashed my HTC, and installed Android Revolution HD 71.1 and this included the Harman/Kardon audio.
But now I have a problem, I was trying to hear a different but when I played a song with the standard music app, I didn't hear a thing. Same problem with Google Music.
But when I start YouTube and play a video, there is sound.
Does anyone know the problem or does someone know the solution?
Thanks.
Maartenll

Did you do a clean install (wipe data, Dalvik and cache before flashing the ROM)?

Uhm.. not really. I followed these:
--
How to flash:
Download ROM and place it on your virtual SD card
Boot your phone in recovery mode (vol down + power)
In main menu, select "install zip from sdcard"
Select "choose zip from sdcard" and browse to the location of Android Revolution ROM
You can use data wiping option in AROMA (optionally if coming from earlier version of my ROM, obligatory if coming from stock or other custom ROM)
After flashing process is complete, reboot the device
--
And i did a data wiping.

I always wipe in recovery. AROMA wipes have known to be problematic on past devices.
Try to wipe data, Dalvik and cache (the is the default factory reset in TWRP) and flash again, and see if that helps.

Thanks for your reply's, i did all you said.. but didn't help.
I will try once again but this time without installing the Harman/Kardon software.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/9x3twhxlx797tai/hk_enable_and_adsp_update_v3.zip
Try flashing this in twrp.

Thanks for your help guys. I appreciate it.
Yesterday i reinstalled my ROM without the Harman/Kardon audio, and it works now.
So I will just let it be this way.
This topic can be closed now.

Just in case you did want HK, you need to be s off to guarantee it working.
Or if you are s on, install a sound mod like project era first then HK.
Anyway good to hear you got it sorted

as mhrsolanki2020 said ... When flashing rom, always boot it, and after reboot flash any changes that you want, like data/link2sd,gapps,gps fixes and so on ...
never flash few things in one step.
also clean cache and dalvik every time you flash new rom ..
I don't think he wiped data or cache.
You can flash cm7 and gapps at the same time with no issues.
I prefer doing it like this rather than multiple restarts and then I setup my accounts on first boot its never given me any problems.
Try again make sure in clockwork mod recovery you:
wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Then goto advance and wipe dalvik
Then flash cm7
Then flash gapps
Restart and all should be fine.
Good luck.
so are those the steps i need?
and can u give me a link of the gapps i am supposed to use please?

here you go mate ht tp://cmw.22aaf3.com/gapps/gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip
can you give me the steps i need to fix the black screen please?
Boot into recovery clockwork mod and do what I said above and you'll be fine.
so once i flash cyanogen i do not reboot first, but i directly flash the gapps as well?
Yes that's how I been doin it for many months
Make sure to wipe the data that I said in previous post or it wont boot.
Its an important step when flashing a rom.
Like the problems that previously occurred.
sorry for so many questions but,
is it either wipe data or factory reset or both?
"wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Then goto advance and wipe dalvik
Then flash cm7
Then flash gapps"
'Data/factory reset' is the same thing
Then 'wipe cache partition'
Then in advance right at the bottom of clockwork mod 'wipe dalvik'
Once done click back then chose install zip from SD
Choose your rom file then confirm.
Then when finished click back.
Then install zip from SD select gapps file and confirm.
Once finished click reboot system.
Done.
will this work for sure? or will it give me the black screen again?
If you do everything I said in the same order it should definitely work my friend.
Is your mobile a GSM or cdma? Does it use a sim card?
Thank you so very much!!!!
No problem.
I'm guessing your up and running And hopefully very happy.
Good luck and all the best.
You're a life saver!!!

[Q] My Gnex won't get past 4.0.2 Canada

Hi I've tried to change my Build. I'm currently using Android Revolution HD. I've got the kernel the program came with - android-build. I have tried changing it over to a whole of builds. AOKP, Gummy
It never successfully launches any of them.
Every time I wipe data, cache and I wipe Dalvik too.
I don't know what to do...
Is there any one who is on Rogers that can do this?
Thanks guys

Don't really make sense??? Try to also format system in recovery ( it won't touch ur personal stuff ) then do all the other wipes then try flash another Rom if that don't work I.got nothing, if u can't figure out there's always fastboot stock Google .img
Can you provide a step-by-step instruction on how you tried to update your Galaxy Nexus ? I'm not on Rogers (I'm on TELUS), but still, maybe we can help you and see if you are following the right path !
You're not doing something right if you can't get another ROM installed.
Do this.
Make sure ROM and Gapps package for that ROM is on your SD card
Reboot into recovery
Wipe data
Wipe cache
Go to Advanced, Wipe dalvik
Go to Mounts and Storage, format system, and cache
INSTALL ROM based on 4.03
Install Gapps
Reboot and Enjoy

2. Downloaded latest nightly
3. Plugged my phone in and transferred the .zip onto phone
4. Went into TWRP
5. Did a factory reset by going to wipe then sliding
6. Clicked install
7. Selected cyanogenmod zip thingy
8. "Failed"

I did some research and heard you need to open the zip file and move the boot.img into my phone then flash it via TWRP. Is that right? Can someone tell me step by step please? I do not want to screw something up.
this "failed" message could be one of a couple of different issues. exactly what was the fail message? and what release of cm are/were you currently running?

I am running 10.1-20130511-NIGHTLY-d2att
I can update OK but just not flash cyanogenmod.
Is it possible to flash boot.img by just moving it on to my device then clicking install and selecting it on TWRP?

This is how I flash a rom in TWRP (I always transfer my pictures to my external before these steps, you might lose them if you don't)
1) Transfer ROM and GAPPS to external SD (Micro SDcard in TWRP)
2) Nandroid Backup
3) Choose "wipe"
3b) Swipe to factory reset.
4) Choose "back"
5) Choose "advanced wipe"
5b) Check Dalvik Cache, System, Data, Cache.
5c) Swipe to wipe.
6) Choose Back
7 - optional -) I always format data (not required, will wipe EVERYTHING)
8) Install Rom
9) Install Gapps
10) Wipe cache/dalvik
11) Reboot.
Your bootloader might be not up to date. The newer ROM releases are giving that problem to some people. We'll cross that bridge when we have to.

Bell APN is built in the ROM.
Anytime you flash a ROM you run the risk of losing you IMEI (which is why you should have it backed up already) :good:
I can't think of anything else to tell you other than make sure all your pics and personal valuables are backed up on your computer or external SD before wiping anything. If you wipe it by accident it isn't restorable.
I don't know your level of ability or flashing history so I don't know what you don't know.

I haven't had to update mine (it already is) so I can't assist you with this, it seems straight forward if you know ODIN.

[Q] ''Finished'' Rom being Evil-rebooting to recovery

Hi guys! I'm in quite a confusing pickle.
Stats~
T-mobile Galaxy S4 M919
Internal Storage Total Space 9.62 GB
SD Card Total Space 14.83 GB
Kernal Version 3.4.0-453951 [email protected] #1
Build Number M919UVUAMDL
I'm running a T-mobile Galaxy s4 m919 (Unlocked& Rooted)
trying to flash Wicked Rom7 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265998
following THIS guys video- which seems to be outdated.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDLwjkcfcss
Steps I have taken-
Reboot. wips cache, data, davlick cache (NOT internal memory or SD card)
install from Zip. select Wicked zip. (on SD Card)
poof! aroma installer shows up. Agree to terms, select what i want (goodies!)
install--says fun things like Hacking Phone! Installing the Evil!
install is finished. Reboot phone.
on reboot, it kicks me back into recovery manager! i can restore, exactly back to how the phone was (both in twrp and recovery manager.)
my question is.. how Do i get Wicked to work? very confusing.
(note! i backed up first with rom manager, then TWRP-phone complains about memory!)

Forget about rom manager, if I were you I would uninstall it before doing anything... It's not needed at all.
All that's needed is TWRP recovery.
#1: Reboot the phone into twrp recovery
#2: Restore a nandroid backup which works properly in twrp recovery
#3: Be sure Wicked v7 rom is copied to your internal sdcard
#4: Wipe System, Wipe Cache, Wipe Dalvik Cache, Wipe Data and do a Factory Reset in twrp recovery.
#5: Start flashing Wicked v7 in twrp recovery
#6: In the AROMA installer be sure to select something on every single screen menu (do not just click "next")
#7: When it's done flashing the rom select "Reboot" and it should start loading the Wicked 7 rom
#8: Have a lot of patience during the first boot, it can take up to 5 minutes or so for the first boot.
#9: After the phone is fully booted before you do anything else reboot it one more time using power button selecting reboot.
There you have it, flashing this way always works. (don't forget the factory reset in twrp)
Good luck!
Thanks for the advice!
after following this, I got the message ''your device does not appear to be rooted'' install root?
I never for to the evil aroma installer--
clicking Yes made it never load. Re-following these directions brought me to a shocking discovery- TWRM does NOT save files saved in internal SD.
So running recovery, re-downloading Evil, and moving it to Internal SD to try flash again. Any Advice this time around?

Update- I was not able to find anything Evil said. I found a member named evil but no mention of Evil rom.
I tried flashing by pulling Wicked to External (could not find internal on pc) then going in file manager of TWRM and moving it to external SD.
Flashing it runs a red error. somehow i did not notice that before, which explains why it never booted aroma.
However wiping delvic cache, cache, system, data then factory restore/ main menu install External SD, wicked brings me to the aroma installer .
grr. what am I doing wrong?

-Boot into recovery
-Wipe data (it will ask you if you want to install new ROM, ect)
-Choose YES
-It will take you to Aroma installer
-Choose install ROM
-Go through the steps
-PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE PART THAT ASK BETWEEN AOSP MESSAGING OR TW MESSAGING, AOSP OR TW CALENDAR, AOSP OR TW CALCULATOR. YOU GET THE POINT.
YOU MUST CHOOSE ONE OF EACH OF THOSE CHOICE.

A nandroid should be your first action after installing a custom recovery - and I bet now you see why...
If you are running a custom rom, just re-flash it just like you installed it originally.
If you are running stock it kinda depends on your carrier, if you are S-off etc.
Tell us more about your setup.
It's an HTC One M8 from T-Mobile
I got the phone from my cousin and he already had it rooted.
But I had blinkfeed and stuff and I don't think I had a custom ROM.
It was just generic T-Mobile Sense 4.4+ I think. Sense 6
What If I want to install my own custom ROM on it with root?
Could I put Android Revolution HD on it or something?
Oh and it's:
*** TAMPERERD ***
*** UNLOCKED ***
M8_UL PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT 3.16.0.00000
OpenDSP-v38.2.2
OS-1.57.531

Yes. Just download the ARHD installation zip to a microSD. Insert the card into your phone and boot to recovery.
I have not used Philz' recovery, but I bet it's very similar to CWM or TWRP. There's going to be an option under the Wipe menu to do a "Factory Wipe". That will wipe your /data partition without wiping your /data/media folder where your personal files (pictures, movies etc) live, and also wipe cache and Dalvik.
You HAVE to do this wipe prior to installing a different rom or the files left behind by your stock installation may bork your new rom right from the get go.
After the wipe finished, go to the Install option in Philz (there maybe a sub-option 'Install from microSD or external SD'), find the ARHD zip file and flash it.
After the install finished, just for good measure (and because I'm not familiar with Philz) go back to the Home screen in recovery, select Wipe again and wipe cache and Dalvik.
You may have to look through the options under Wipe, but you should find a page where you can select which partitions to wipe. Just check cache and Dalvik, nothing else, and wipe.
Then reboot to system.
Good luck. [emoji106]

Thank you!
It worked, I'm on Android Revolution HD running version 8.1 on my HTC One M8
Also got it working with ART run-time.
Everything works like a charm and I made a nandroid backup.
Thank you sir, good day!
