Hey xda family, i currently have a samsung galaxy s4. Im been very intrigued on the lg g3. I am here to ask all of you for your personal feelings towards the g3. How is the phone from a developement stand point aswell as everyday driver? Your comments will help me decide if i should upgrade to it. Thank you in advance for any input you can offer.

Since it looks like you're currently on T-Mobile, you should see a lot of development for the G3. The bootloader comes factory unlocked for your variant.
I came from a Galaxy S3, and I couldn't be happier. The battery lasts all day for me, screen is bright and beautiful, everything runs fast and smooth. I'm very satisfied.
Does the color difference ever bug you? Going from amoled to the type of screen lg g3 has scares me alittle, i know it has the highest ppi of all phones, im just worried that the sharper colors will look slightly dull with the g3. Im at the point where ive had every galaxy thats come out and the interface is starting to bug me. Samsung hasnt changed anything about it. Im liking the g3's interface, and it seems really smooth with transitioning.

I've had every Galaxy since the S3 and recently switched from the S5 and S5 Active. The screen does take some adjusting as LCD looks a lot different than AMOLED, but it has been an easy adjustment for me. I tend to like the look of an LCD screen better than AMOLED anyway. I would suggest messing around with a display model for about 20-30 minutes (or a friend's if they have one) before making a decision. See how your eyes like and and if you feel it will be an easy transition.

I came from an S4 as well. I was very impressed with the S4 battery life and the overall feel (after I debloated and installed nova launcher). But the G3 blows it out the water. If I'm on WiFi all day I can get 22+ hours off the charger with 6.5+ hours of screen on time (still having about 15% left after all of this). Not being on WiFi I get 16-18 hours off charger with about 5+ hours screen on time. Now I debloated (heavily don't have any of the lg extras that coke with the phone. Not even the launcher) I also use trickster to lower my max cpu and gpu (I don't game on my phone so don't need all that power) I also completely killed carrier iq (this helped battery a lot). Now I saw you mentioned something about the screen colors. It looks like the kernel that comes on here allows for customization of colors but it might be too messy trying to go that route since it only allows for the rgb spectrum of adjustments. If you want bright vivid colors like on an amoled I'd ways for development to kick off and get a kernel similar to the one they had on the optimus G that allowed for gamma and gradient adjustments. But other than that. It's an awesome phone

Thanks for your input. I took my wife to tmobile 2 days ago and she upgraded to the g3. I must say i impressed with some of the features. Since you are rooted and running a debloated version, is it reversible back to stock without leaving any tripped counters of any type? I wanna root my s4 so bad but i know i will trip the knox bootloader when i add custom recovery. Im wondering if the g3 has anything like that? I dont think it does since the bootloader is unlocked.

It is fully reversable. But there is a root for g3 that doesn't trip the counter, it's called purple drake. Also you can used towelroot to root s4 and it will not trip counter or knox. Just go to towelroot.com from your phone (using chrome or built in browser)and download it.

Just bought my galaxy nexus off of somebody on craigslist, and I absolutely love it coming from an htc amaze 4g. This phone is lightning quick and extremely responsive. I can see grain because of the pentile, and also have the purple issue when brightness is low as well as incredibly low speaker. I'm kinda worried about the limited 16Gb internal memory. Other than that, I prefer this phone over my friends S3!! I love this phone!!!!! My first Samsung! Nice to meet you all! Any suggestions and apps u guys would recommend? I

Hopefully battery isn't too bad on jellybean. My amaze on ics would last about 8 hours of light to intermediate usage and about 1 hour and 15 minutes of screen on time. Anything better than then I'll be happy lol

Only 1 hour?? Most people here get 3 to 4 hours screen on time, some I've seen even 5. You should go ahead and root it and install a custom kernel so you can adjust the color settings to fix that purple tint issue

You should be able to get longer than that with the screen on. Are you switching everything on at the same time? e.g. GPS, wireless, LTE (perhaps?), or perhaps having emails sync every minute... Even if it's heavy gaming you're doing you should get longer than that.

Lol no guys. If anything I would probably get 90 minutes maximum screen on time on my HTC amaze. the battery life on that phone was the worst I've seen in my life. Auto sync off, brightness at 10% , mobile data off, and just some texting.
Also I was thinking of flashing a either kernel, but the phone is perfect the way it is lol. What are other benefits from custom kernel?

You can change the color profile with a custom kernel to get rid of the purple tint. You can also undervolt and underclock for better battery life. You can overclock too, but the CPU is more than enough @stock for most tasks
First thing I'd check out is Jubakuba's sticky in the Q&A forum, all about unlocking boot loader, rooting, flashing ROMs, etc. Big timesaver is just flash bigxie's 4.1.1 ROM which is rooted, with busybox, gapps, and deodexed. Trinity kernel will let you adjust color, boost volume, and overclock (or underclock to save battery). People also like Franco's kernel. Another good flashable mod is Thyrus's Nav bar w/menu button, which also gives you expanded power-off menu with reboot and recovery options. (Does require deodexed ROM so won't work on stock). And you might want to try a replacement launcher like Nova or Apex.
Or you might just want to enjoy the stock Jellybean experience for a while before modding. Have fun.
Thanks for the responses guys!! I read around and I see I have to use Odin? I'm more of a fast boot command prompt type of guy lol . I'm scared to mess up nexus :/ is performance better with custom kernels? Oh boy I'm going to have do tons of reading!!! Lol.

fastboot works great with the GNex. I have had this phone for 4 months and I have never ever used Odin
I have had the opportunity to use both of these phones and I just wanted to take the time to discuss what I have found. This is purely for an informational basis for people who are average users who are trying to decide on a phone.
Which is easier to root?
I am not a developer but I have a few friends that are and they have always rooted my phones in the past. With both of these model's I choose to do everything myself an untrained noob if you will. The easier phone to root I would have to say is the Note II. Although developers have done a great job with the Optimus making it a one click a toolkit is literally idiot proof.
Development communuties?
Their is a distinct difference between both communities although the Note II has more development the developers are far more willing to work with you then the Note II devs. The LGOG wins hands down.
Overall phone performance on stock ROM?
LGOG wins hands down the Note is huge but that's not is biggest down fall. I love using my phone with one hand as do most who will read this so functionality is one challenge that the Note can not compete with. Although the Note 2 come out of the box with JB and the LGOG is still stuck on ICS it is also future proof as us the Note 2 but ICS is all hella fast!
I think the LGOG is the best phone for your money on Sprint! If you have any personal questions about the phones or anything like that just PM.
Thanks and I hope this helps anyone on the fence.

Hello And thank you for your review. I want to add a little to what you wrote because you started on the consensus of the average user.
I am not writing this to Discredit anything you wrote..
So to try and Make My opinion as least Biased as possible I will leave the development Aspect aside - To even start to compare the number of Devs or even the development done on the devices is not only far out weighed by any Galaxy III/ Note 2, but there are also set conditions that played a Role in Development. A lot of that Has to Do with the Companies themselves.
Having literally owned every Top Sprint Device. I will start on more consumer based experience. To be quite honest even that will be hard for me to do so my post may be slightly opinionated as well.
More people are probably going to gravitate towards a galaxy product not only based on marketing ALONE FIRST AND FOREMOST.
Both LG And Sprint Spent Little Time marketing the Device. A big part of this has to do as to why there is a certain amount of development from one device to an other.
Elaborating on the stock Features and hardware of the devices having DONE NOTHING to both devices. To the average consumer again this is a superfine line. Again You can go by stock specs alone, but does that mean much to the true AVERAGE user who absolutely does nothing to there phone is going to notice any difference at all. To really be honest no the average user isn't going to even notice the hardware differences at all. In fact a average consumer may be not only drawn to a product alone for marketing but there are other trend factors. (I would not even began to compare stock camera performance!)(Removable Battery) ECT.
One may like the Optimus for the Build Quality/Looks/ ( Screen IPS Display, which again is Consumers opinion as to what picture looks better)
Strictly "consumer" again Customer service between both companies - "In My findings personally" I feel that Samsung reps have better customer service skills and product knowledge. ( Dont want to elaborate why, thats a page in it self 'Thats Why i said personally")
Software updates - Having an every top of the line Samsung android phone on sprint since the Moment - I have seen not only dev grow but Samsungs Commitment for updates! (Trust me it was BAD!) - Having LGs press release saying that it was to debut with JB - is a little let down! But lets hope its around the corner super soon! (im sure t is!!)
Having literally every top of the line android phone from SPRINT -from HTC ----LG...I would say this phone has its Niche with us NERDS!!!
THAT IS FINE WITH ME!!! I feel people appreciate this device for its sexiness and performance which only US NERDS can really understand and began to appreciate in this device!!
Again I dont mean to discredit what you wrote because it is valid and im sure many people feel the same. I was just trying to provide a more general over view.
You are fine I just love the opions I love the optimus g this was nothing against it. Love to see where development is going. I will be back on it soon!

So no one has had the problems I've heard with the Optimus G? Like weak vibrate, poor phone call quality, poor signal, etc? I'm trying to decide which phone to switch to (I have the Note II but I think it's too big) and I thought the Optimus G would be a good phone to switch to, but I'm a bit worried because of all the problems I've been hearing about.
I'm all about the awesome hardware in the phone, but if the phone just doesn't work well then you can have all the processor speed you want and it'll still be a bad experience. :/
I have had uses with my mic (poor call quality) but it was different on different ROM's. Like the lifeless ROM so all was good.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium
So a custom rom would help make it a better phone call experience?
My concern is your rooting method...
I have the optimus G and i can say, in terms of simplicity, rooting this device was the easiest device ever to root that I've had. seriously, like 7 commands in a terminal, a button press on the phone, and it rebooted with perm root. NOT difficult at all.
It helped mine

I just got my LGOG and I love it so far but I still can't decide if I want to keep it or swap it out for the note 2. The only thing that is making want to switch is the fact that there are way more roms and dev on the note than there is on the LGOG. I've always had HTC before and there is tons of dev over there. My question is do y'all think that that there will be more roms and etc. In the future? Or should I just switch to there note 2? I only have 3 days left to decide.

No disrespect to the devs over at the sprint Note 2 but all of the roms look the same. Only ROM worth having is jellybomb rom. And CM10 is still at alpha stage.

I've been an HTC guy for years, I've tried a couple of Samsung's (Galaxy S(fascinate), Galaxy Nexus,S4) and I keep coming back to HTC.
Personally, I can't stand anything bigger than the Rezound/Galaxy Nexus. I returned the S4 because I couldn't find a comfortable way to hold it. The DNA wasn't much better (gave to my mother after a week)
The HTC one is a perfect fit size wise, I honestly don't know how anyone can use the note's as a phone... Just too big.
I may be sticking with the HTC one for a Long time, I love the build quality, design and the size (as compared to all the phones on the market now)

I came from the S3 and so far, it's a very nice phone. I really like how it feels in the hand when you are talking and I like how I can swype with one hand. As far as speed, it doesn't really feel faster than my S3, they feel about the same. Sense is fine, I use Nova as my primary launcher. Battery is good, better than the S3. But keep in mind, it's not unlocked right now and we don't know if any devs are working on it.
I have watched a couple of videos and they say the phone doesnt lag at all. Is this true? I had the s4 for a couple weeks. It had some lag here and there. How much screen time do you guys get

I've had 0 issues with lag on this phone, the speed is pretty staggering.
i've had the phone for a week and have been very impressed with it. Battery gets me through a day. its very fast as well i haven't noticed any lag.
I haven't seen any of these high end phones lag. I'm thinking some people just like drama. Great phone. Use my rule though be happy and make your purchase based on what is on the phone assuming it will never be unlocked. I've been pretty happy using the logic. I'm unlocked myself, but also happy running rooted stock sometimes.
Long time HTC user up until recently had the sg3/sg4/
This phone is great, I highly suggest it.
The build quality i superior to Samsung, and IMO we have a much better chance of unlock root for this phone than on the s4.
I have a good feeling I'll be selling my s4 in the near future.

actually, all reviewers for the s4 say that TW lags on it. Haven't seen any on my Note 2, but I don't even have TW installed. Probably just needs better optimization.

Re read my post. I've used an s4 its pretty much just as good. People are biased from time to time. Also as my other post said lag is more perception at this point. These super phones do amazing things. Sometimes I think my keyboard "lags" on the one badly for instance. I also realize the other factors at play. Heck people here in this forum complain about sense 5 being laggy. My point is that lag is half perception.

nice work and i love the titanium body good work guys
So I am about to start my new job with At&t in 2 weeks which will bring me into a universe I'm not familiar with. I have been on Verizon FOREVER! So my boss told me that my first phone is on the house I really like the Note 3 but I'm guessing the bootloader is locked up tight just like it is over on Verizon. So I guess i'm just fishing for info. I think the optimus G pro is what im leaning towards. So if it's not too much trouble let me know what you think about it. Thanks for your input ahead of time!
Fun phone.

Fun phone. It's big enough but manageable. Several roms to choose from as you can see.
It's awesome.

NOTE 3 IS THE WAY

While I don't have a OGP, the only gripe about LG is the slow official software and the custom UI seems overly done but otherwise, I think it a lovely phone.
Note 3 is greater in performance and hardware, so I advice that, well there should be easier ways to unlock bootloader on note3 forum link. Our OGP is good but not enough for 2014 standards(a week away).

I traded my s4 for a g pro and couldn't be happier. it's a great phone with great battery life on stock and custom roms. also very easy to root and install cwm.
Thanks for all the input guys. Before I became a flashaholic choosing a phone was easy. Now I have consider things like bootloaders and rooting. I don't know if I could ever just use a stock phone again.

I have my OGP e988 (Taiwanese) for couple of weeks now. I like the stock rom it has all the value pack stuff already, no real need to root since I'm not sure how to (so many conflicting experiences). The things that bother me though are overheating (not really HOT but warmer than I'd like it to be), plus I don't know how to check the temperatures (only battery temp is shown in apps) and what I really hate so far is the camera - a significant framedrom in dark environment (I dunno if I'm doing something wrong). This is my first Android phone so I'm still a noob (haven't figured out how to wipe the dalvik and other caches). What I LOVE about the phone is the battery, the screen and everything else.

Lol can't agree more. Coming from galaxy nexus initially i did feel a bit uneasy with the Ogpro forum cause every other rom was for a different version of Ogpro(e980,988,986,f240). Lg is crazy i should say.. One international gsm version n one cdma version should be the norm kinda like samsung.

+1. Experienced in getting some failures during flashing the rom which not compatible with my e988.

Did a whole lot of research before buying the OGP, myself. I came from the AT&T LG Optimus G which was converted to a Nexus 4. I was stuck between this, the S4 or waiting for the Note 3. Ultimately, the OGP won, as you can see. After playing with a Note 3 I can safely say that I'm way more than satisfied with my purchase. I noticed no speed increase between the OGP and Note 3 and I run my phone at 1.1GHz. The Note 3 is also waaaaay too bulky. I have big hands and can't even keep a good grip on that thing with 1 hand. No worries with the OGP and texting 1handed is a breeze. We might not have that big of a community but what we have works. As far as failed flashes, I think it depends on what recovery you're using. Had loads of problems until I switched to Madmack's hacked TWRP. Haven't had a problem since and that was months ago.

Maybe LG can`t or doesn`t cheat as good as HTC or Samsung with benchmark tests Lag is most of the time user app related by apps/widgets running in the background and slowing down the cpu.
I thought the device was pulling 23k in this test i think ill have to try a reset :/ dnt have much installed either

Either you got a defective phone or the G3 is a joke.

Ive worked out the problem its the extreme underclocking lg has done when the phone gets hot. Seems too extreme to me kinda put me off abit :/

Keep dreaming. Samsung will never give up the S-LAG function (It's there since the original SGS and still there in the SGS5)
I was pretty fed up with the lag on the S5 and now I'm pretty Fed up with the lag on my G3 Damn Koreans, can't you learn a page out of HTC, Motorola's or Nexus book.
I don't get it either how can they release flag ship devices with UI lag or any lag. I guess it's our fault buying it...
Anyway, I still have a faith in LG. They will fix it or ART default in the next Android release will eliminate it (Hopefully. Other brands have much worse cons with their products).

True.
This and the QHD display are the problem.
I think it will still lag in the future due to this two details.

Galaxy S5 Lags a lot more, so it must really overheat and have a QHD display also I guess.....
Maybe a custom kernel could fix this once they start to become available.

I am also hoping for this. Custom kernels did wonders for my Nexus 4.

The difference is almost like night and day for some phones. My nexus 7 ran even better with different kernels.

You can also control the colors, sharpness and brightness with custom kernels. I hope that the G3 will have big developers community so we will see some brilliant coding.
I did a reset and it seems a bit better I just hope it will get some Fix's as the phone it self is amazing

Same here. Rather love the hardware, it's just the software that's lacking.
Well here's my benchmark test on my g3

And I had a S5 that I used for a while before trading it for a M8. (Had the S2, S3 and S4 also , so not a samsung hater. But touchwiz has always lagged.)
Of course after rooting, debloating, ect. the phone runs fine. But were discussing stock here.
If your running stock touchwiz and not having lag, your the only person I know who has gotten that lucky.
