Hello all, i just got the htc one about 4 days ago. Before this, I had an S2 that I rooted, I had a lot of fun changing the ROMS and customizing my phone, however my GPS, and bluetooth never worked. And finding, downloading, and playing around with ROMS is very time consuming. So i was just wondering if it is worth it to root this phone. Are there any good stable customizable ROMS for this phone? Thanks a lot!

take a look at the main m8 forums. I am on ARHD and have no problems with Bluetooth which I use in my car daily. Also gps works great.

It really depends on which rom you're on. In my past experiences with CM nightlies, things like GPS and BT would break. Try stock-based roms like ARHD as mentioned above. It's pretty solid
Rooting will enable you to delete alot of bloatware as well, it's not just for custom roms. Xposed is really cool to personalize as well.

Is there even a point rooting my phone when its already Gingerbread? can someone tell me the general features I can get, and what are the best roms out there if i do root? thanks
The point of rooting is to open up a whole new world of customization. Once you root your phone, you can do a lot LOT more with your phone than you can now.
Just look at the choices of roms you'll have.
Believe me, rooting your DHD will be the best thing you'll do to your phone.
And as far as custom roms are concerned, there is no such thing as 'the best rom'.. it all depends on personal choice.
If you like the idea of trying different roms then you'll need to root.
You can get an idea from the screenshots in the ROM threads of how different your phone experience can be with custom roms.
(I started out rooting just for an easier way to take screenshots.)
Here is a page of screenshots from the CyanogenMod 7 rom I had on my phone a while back (plus some other wallpapers). As you can see, it is quite different. It's worth trying different roms if you like to tinker and improve the experience, be it visual, performance or whatever.
It can become an addiction or distraction though, so be warned. Good Luck.
It most certainly can become an addiction and distraction. I've got exams to worry about and my mind keeps going back onto this lol

Amen. Likewise. hahaha.
One word - Customisation.
That's why you should root and try out different ROMs find out the mix that suits you perfectly rather than sticking to what HTC TELLS you you want.

The is no best rom. Each has specific features, so you have to test what works best for you.
Popular roms are Android Revolution HD, CyanogenMod, Leedroid, Rcmix, MIUI, Coredroid etc...
wow , that cyanogenmod actually looks good! Just a couple of questions:- 1) How can i root (lol) 2) Can it be reversed at all? (the ROMs and rooting?)
thats all for now! thanks for everyone whos posted so far

With a rooted phone, you can get total control of your phone,
With stock ROMs they have limited some functions, but once you rooted you can get rid of those limitation. For simple example, you cant take screenshots of your phone without rooting.
And secondly you can install custom ROMs on your phone and even overclock your processor.
Hope this helped,
Thanks!
As pointed out, you can overclock your phone. The DHD can run up to 1.9Ghz !
I normaly have mine running anything up to 1.6
Plus overcocking means that the phone can be underclocked for when the screen is off, saving battery.
As for ROM's. I have traditionally always run CyanogenMod as it's a nice, slick, fast experience.
If you try CM, then don't forget how much you can customise your screens using different 'Launcher' apps. I use ADW Ex but Launcher Pro is another popular one and there's plenty more. Most have downloadable themes(skins) too.
Oh, and if you really want some fun, try one of the new full Sense 3.0 rom's to see how fansy sense can get. I'm running Virtious Unity at the moment and it's the first Sense ROM I've run since I first rooted the phone ! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1115312
But as stated elsewhere - beware, flashing becomes addictive

Very addicting indeed.. More like, 3 times a day in flashing different roms, just for the sake of showing off to my significant other..

i rooted two days ago and now im running cm7. best decision i have ever made!! wish id done it a lot sooner. i have a question about overclocking, well, underclocking with cm7. did you use the performance setting within cyanogenmod to adjust the cpu settings or did you use a third party app like setcpu. going to try around 1400 overclock and run whatever the minimum is.
cheers
I recently upgraded to an Inc2 from an original Inc because I do a lot of international travel and needed a global phone. Just rooted the new Inc2 last night but I noticed many of the ROMs are CDMA only. Anyone have any suggestions of a good ROM that will work globally? I read that CM7 will with some minor adjustments but I'd prefer to stay with a Sense ROM for now.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions

I travel international a lot. I use Skyraider Zeus. It works and runs great with virtually no bugs. It is a Sense 2.1/3.0 hybrid with the Sense 3.0 lock screens and other features. Global support is the same as stock. My battery life is awesome at 2 to 3 days with this ROM and the speed is good.

I just came back from a trip to Chile. Used SkyRaider Zeus there without a problem. Also tried CyanogenMod (which is my favorite ROM), but had some serious problems with it in GSM mode. Before my next international trip I will switch back to SkyRaider again. Perhaps I will try CyanogenMod while overseas, just to see if its GSM capability has improved.
Obviously you could also always switch back to stock ROM

True, and I keep a nadroid of it on my SD card for that reason, but it also limits other things like using Skype over wifi. I loaded up SkyRaider Zeus today and it seems to be working great so far. Very smooth. I love the 3.0 lockscreen too (had it on my original Inc), but I kinda hate the call answer screen. So much easier to swipe down to answer or up to ignore. Now you have to look at the screen to drag the tiny icon into the circle...
Hi there,
I recently purchased a used Galaxy Nexus from eBay after having seen the good spec and for the low price. I have a few questions before I receive the phone and I'd like to know what ROM would be the best to use, I have seen a stable Cyanogenmod is this the best? Also, I have seen some questions around issues on battery life, has anyone using this ROM had any problems and if so what advice could you give?
I have previously owned the Orange SF 1 and 2 and was not satisfied with battery life after having changed the ROM etc. and I don't want to have those issues with this phone. So, I appreciate any help I can get with my questions, thanks!!
Every single rom I've used has pretty much been the same with battery. The battery on the galaxy nexus isn't the best. That's how it was built. No rom is going to magically make it better. Any difference in battery you get will be minimal and depend more on how you use your phone. I suggest try out some ROM and kernel combinations and see what works for you. There are plenty to chose from and honestly, they are all good. You aren't going to get one single answer from everyone here.

Thanks for your reply. All right, does the battery for you last on a day to day basis? I don't want to mess about with ROMs too much, I am looking for that one ROM that would be most stable and I won't have to change. What is the stock Android like on the Nexus, also I have seen "PARANOIDANDROID" to be very popular so is that good, what do you use? Thanks again!

I am not one to answer these questions. I work at a desk all day with a charger in my phone pretty much the whole day so battery has never been an issue. But if you arent doing a lot to your phone all day like streaming music and movies and gaming then you should be fine. As for your other question, I have been on a different ROM every week since 4.3 came out. lol. All of them are nice and smooth and good ROMs. If you like a lot of features, go with Paranoid Android. If you like minimal stock go with Cyanogenmod or any other AOSP ROM. Stock isnt all that bad either though. Its like I said, try some out and find what you like. As long as you know what you are doing, you shouldnt have any problems flashing a bunch of stuff. Thats the fun part anyway.

All right, okay. Thanks a lot for your answers, you've helped a lot and I will try different the two ROM's when I get my Galaxy Nexus later today. I am liking Paranoid Android so far but I can see its got quite a few versions, is the latest one 3.97 stable? Sorry for all the questions, I really appreciate you taking time to answer them.

Lol I know that, I was asking if the latest version 3.97 was stable or not. Got my Galaxy Nexus today and its on stock 4.2.2, so going to try a few ROM's later on to get it to 4.3 just wanted to know about the stability of Paranoid Android.

I cant think of any unstable ROMs that we have. The good thing about the Galaxy Nexus is that the developers dont have to do any workarounds to get things working. Its a completely unlocked phone with all the tools for developing available for them. So all the ROMs that are made pretty much have everything working in it.
EDIT: Oh, and just make sure you use the ROM that is made for your device. If you have the unlocked GSM version, you need ROMs made for "Maguro".

Thanks a lot for all your help! Since, I have installed Cyanogenmod and stuck to Android 4.2, as ParanoidAndroid wasn't for me. I have also used the Touchwiz UI and it looks great. The battery life I am happy with it even though it does go down a little more than average, but it's fine for me. Thanks again, great phone!
Hi!
Got my Tab S SM-T700 8.4 yesterday. Rooted it and flashed blissrom.
What I will be using the tablet for: Mainly when I travel for watching movies and browsing internet.
Got PC at home and a mobile phone so wont be using it much unless im out travelling which doewsnt happend to often!
Im curious if people have tried lots or ROMs and got any advice which one to use?
I dont care much if its kiktkat or lollipop, I simply want a stable, well working, batteryfriendly ROM for my purposes.
Like, I know there is:
BlissPop kitkat
BlissPop lollipop
cm12 (unofficial)
cm11 (unofficial)
IronRom
also different kernels, but have no clue how much this matters (bought a used Tab S, so not afraid breaking warranty etc)
PS. Dont really mind using stock touchwiz/rom if this is the best choice.

I can't say which is most stable as I have only tried IronROM, but what I *can* say is that IronRM is very stable and has a great kernel that does well "out of the box" but is also very tweakable. Also a very active and responsive Dev.
However, I should note I have the T800, not your model.

Iron rom for T700 is still being worked on. I own a T800 soo.. Yeah. Anyway from what I experienced, Iron rom has good screen on time and sorta good standby time (screen off). Blisspop and cm12 are both beta so, not a good option now. I would recommend cm11 for if you dont like touchwiz. Though it is very stable and has good standby and screen on time and I think you can use a custom kernel on it too! So you can change the settings to the battery settings and get the most battery life. I would try cm11 with CM skyhigh kernel.
I use stock rom with mxplayer pro using hw+ decoder and I get a solid 10 hours of movie time on my sm-t700, granted I don't have the brightness sky high but that seems pretty good to me.
I hve just installed IronRom for SM-T705, and I have to say that it feels very smooth. I came from stock+root+debloat+skyhigh, which I think is the smoothest you can get with stock, and IronRom feels smoother, even with the stock kernel. I also use MXPlayer, and video playback is great.

And that's not counting my posts about IronROM on Android Forums and Brighthand. Hey, when I like something, I tend to let people know. :good:
The stock Samsung ROM could have worked for this purpose too. I have watched something like 40 hours of videos so far on my T800 with stock ROM and the free MX Player. The experience has been pretty smooth. I only had to get a codec pack for my player. It plays HD videos just fine and uses up something like 10% of battery charge for every hour of run time.
The only big issue was with some youtube and netflix videos that were recorded at kind of low volume. Eventually, I rooted the device and used a hack I described in another post to increase the sound gain.
Was quite happy with my blissrom.. Now that it is discontinued.. What alternatives is there?
Dont have the time to try every different rom/kernel there is.. Maybe someone else is updated in what's best choice now?

Hello all,
i just received my order of this phone. Got a good deal on it. Going to be giving it as a gift. My previous experience with android 5.0.2 was it was broken. Is it good on this phone? Its already on it, i was just hoping the memory leaks aren't an issue anymore. Otherwise im fine rooting and romming (thats possible to do with this phone via htc dev unlock right?), but if thats the case what is the best sense ROM for battery life? Thanks in advance! Any other tips or recommendations, feel free to let me know.
Have had the phone for a year and a half and let me tell you, it just rocks. Haven't had any problems with it. Can't say much about official roms because I've ran custom ones since lollipop, but I never felt the phone lagging or struggling to run an app. Battery is good enough for my usage (moderate use with a little gaming).

Great to hear! Was there something wrong the lollipop firmware that caused you to switch ROMs? If there's a chance my fiancee won't be happy with the newest stock ROM its on, then I'm perfectly happy unlocking it and flashing a custom ROM. She likes Sense though but I imagine there is no shortage of custom Sense based ROMs. Battery life woild be number 1 priority for a custom ROM though. Any tips?

No, nothing wrong, I switched to custom roms for the features and for better battery life. As a matter of fact, the best battery I had was with kitkat (over 4 hours sot vs less than 4).
I'm one of those who loves sense, so I can't say much about gpe, but I've read that it works fairly well.
Right now I'm running ICE Sense rom and it works flawlessly. Good battery, smooth and fast.
