I've tried what the "[GUIDE] Rooting the Samsung Captivate Glide i927/i927r" page said, ie:
Turn off the phone
Press volume UP and keeping the button pressed, press the power button
a screen should ask you if you wanna continue - press volume up to confirm
but it won't start up in download mode. Any thoughts?

When you press Volume Up what does it do? Just reboot? once you press Volume Up you should be in D/L mode without doing anything else.
When I hold down the volume up key it doesn't do anything.
Turn phone off
Take battery out
Wait 2 minutes
Put battery in
Press volume up
Press power and hold both until the download confirmation screen comes up.
Thanks rovar, I've got it working now.
How do you take a screenshot? I'm using a stock rom.
Hold power button and volume down at the same time
Or
Press and hold power button and then press the home button. This one is harder though because if you don't time it right you turn your screen off or make the power off menu pop up

The first method didn't work. Just makes the volume go down.
The second worked great!
You have to press them at pretty much the same time. If you press the power button first for like a millisecond too long and then press the volume down button the volume will go down. Neither option is my favorite, but they get the job done
Tried every power volume button combinations, still not turning on. If you press and hold power button or Power +Volume Up button only htc logo appears and goes away after few seconds.
and in fastboot mode or recovery mode I don't know what it is said which appears by holding Power + Volume Down, nothing happens if I press power button on 'fastboot','Recovery','Show Barcode'
Help me to turn this thing on without factory reset please.
This same phone recently turned off and I managed to turn it on by charging via laptop and Volume up+Power .
Does anyone know how to force power down of the phone?
My phone is faulty and i need to mail it back to the seller. I cant use the screen but i need to turn it off before sending.
Pressing the power and volume down resets the phone, but does anyone know how to turn it off only?
Hold power + volume down to force the reboot, when the screen goes black keep the power button pressed and switch to volume up. This will reboot to the bootloader. Use the volume keys to navigate to power down and press the power button to confirm.
That should do it and all via physical buttons.
Hi,
My Pixel 6 Pro screen went black, but I can still hear and feel that the phone is working. I used the volume up + power button to reboot it and now I touch the phone and I feel it vibrate as it's registering the touches. I also see at the bottom of the screen some white stripes flashing. It seems that the screen is damaged and I need a replacement screen.
Now my issue is that I can't seem to turn it off. As the screen is black, the only way to shut it down would be with hardware keys. But up until now, I haven't been able to figure out a way to turn the phone off.
Does anyone know how I can turn of the phone?
To replace the screen, obviously I need to turn it off first...
Usually long pressing the power button, but it may be different. As long as it gets fixed within a month or so it you can let it discharge until it auto shuts down. If more than a year old replacing the battery when repaired is a good idea anyway...
I tried long pressing the power button with no luck.
I tried volume down + power button for 20 seconds, didn't work either.
I tried volume up + power button for 20 seconds, this I think reboots the phone.

Power button only might take 20 or so seconds.
Otherwise just like it sit until repaired.
Power button + vol up + vol down. Keep holding down once you feel the phone vibrate. Takes you to the bootloader screen
The battery died.. so that's good!
Thanks anyways
