I cut my regular sim card down by hand with an xacto knife and a template I downloaded. It fit, but now its stuck. At least the phone works. Any ideas about how to get it out? I tried tweezers, but they won't fit under it to get a grip.
I just use anything with a slight edge. Screw driver, razor, paper clip.... just push it out from the top. (This is what I do on an actual micro sim, but mine was always difficult to get out too)
It actually happened to me once with my old Galaxy S. I put a MicroSIM into the regular sim spot and it stuck after one of the metals. I pull it with a paper clip, but I broke one of the metal pieces that touches the sim card. Be careful when you take it out.

I recently dismantled my BA to work on the LCD. I originally thought it would be necessary to disconnect the keyboard ribbon from the main board, so I removed the tape and black clip from the surface mount connector. However, it turned out I could leave the ribbon in place, so I didn't remove it.
After reassembly, only a few of the keyboard keys now work, and the blue LEDs no longer work at all.
I was careful not to force or twist the ribbon at all as I worked, so I don't think it's damaged, but I haven't been able to make the black clip go back on properly. I suspect this is the problem. I have tried to reseat the clip but without success and the keyboard is still the same.
Can someone please explain the role of this black clip and tape, and their relevance to the electrical connection. And can anyone direct me to a 1000x magnified picture of how the clip is supposed to fit!

I had a similar problem when dissasembling one of my PPC6600 phones. The ribbon is quite dellicate, and I wound up ripping the outer conductor (it is the thicker one, and it happens to power the backlight LED's). Needless to say, I had to use a very fine tip soldering iron and some hair-fine wire to fix the mess. When I got my hands on a scrap one from EBAY (for like, 75 bucks because the ESN was locked out), I pulled the keyboard from it and replaced my hack.

Check out the one pic that is big that shows you how to flip up the clip.
The connector you are talking about has a little black (brown?) clip that flips up 90 degrees to allow the ribbon to come out. If you didn't flip it up, you might have been able to remove the ribbon, but tough luck getting it back in. You can stick your fingernail in there where the ribbon goes, and lift up on the clip. It should pop up ad remain connected quite easily. Also, when you re-insert the ribbon, you want to make sure that the two protruding tabs on the ribbon 'seat' fully against the connector before you push the clip back down onto the ribbon.

When I did the work I had already seen your exellent pics (thanks ) and my black clip came right off when I lifted it. So my problem is getting the black clip back on, so that it can be flipped up and down normally again. At no time did I try to remove the ribbon so I don't think it's damaged - but I'm wondering if the black clip needs to go back properly before the electrical connection is good again.
PS to anyone dismantling BA - remember to remove both the SIM and the SD card/blank, as these both jam the cover and prevent removal - shame if someone missed this and snapped something . (I tried to add this info to the page with pics but the Edit button wouldn't let me do it - gives a "page not found" error.)

Anyhow, I think I remember dealing with connectors like these before and having that clip pop off. There are two little tabs on the clip that have little round buttons on each side of the clip tabs, and these buttons prodtrude off the sides of the clip. They match a slot on the connector part that is surface mounted to your mainboard. So, you have to align the clip properly so that these protruding bumps 'pop' back into the white housing on both sides. Now, if these tabs broke off.... then I guess you're outa luck, unless I guess you find some very thin plastic that you can shove in on-top of the ribbon (underneath the part of the housing where the clip SHOULD have gone), so that it pushes the exposed conductors of the ribbon down onto the connector.

How do you get by without SIMs? Does that mean a phone is forever tied to the one provider and phone number?

It's a GSM thing. GSM phones (like the PDA2K or SX66) use SIM cards, CDMA phones (like the PPC6600) don't.
So I got this brand new Galaxy Nexus today and when I press down on the cover (at the bottom of the camera) it makes this popping sound. It sounds like either I have a defective device or Samsung has pretty bad build quality.
Mine does it too, I think it's just a little gap between the phone and the cover under the camera hump. I think I'll try to stick a small piece of masking tape on the inside of the cover tomorrow to snug it up.
Oh thank God, I thought it was just my phone. I stuck some paper in there and it stopped.

I had to swap my phone because of a hardware problem and the new phone's cover moves a little but doesn't pop and I don't have any good tape so I haven't gotten around to trying it yet.
Mine does it too. It seems to just be some kind of gap back there. I have a Diztronic case now and it doesn't bother me anymore.

Ok guys,I had this same issue. And I fixed it. Here's what I did.
The LTE version of this phone has a small plastic rib on the inside of the battery cover right next to the sim card. I found that the sim card from vzw is just a tad too long and it interferes with that rib. That rib is supposed to hold the sim card in place so that it doesn't come loose. I took out the sim card and filled/shaved the card down by about 0.5mm. This still left plenty of material beaten the chip and the end of the card, but created a space between the rob and the card such that the cover can seat fully and no longer hit/rub on the sim card.
Everything is nice and tight and quiet now. Stupid vzw and their improperly dimensioned cards was the problem.
Somehow got my SIM card stuck inside the N7! Poking the extractor tool does nothing. It doesn't "pop out" like it did the first time I ejected the tray. The ejector tool is too flimsy to pry out the tray!
How should I try to get it out? A stronger (stiffer) tool?
Need help here before I break something!

Used the tip of a pair of scissors to pry the tray out! Had to REALLY dig on it to get it out! Was afraid I'd damage the tablet case or SIM tray or both!

Im a bit worried as this is my first premium phone in a long while and My first time cutting the sim with a sim cutting tool.
I have never been one to take the manual at heart but since I spent a lot on this phone, I do not want to stuff up.
In the manual, it has a symbol representing "Do not cut your sim" - Now is this just a general warning or something ?
I cut mine with scissors and it worked just fine.
The only problem was that i cut very close to the chip and it became loose in the SIM compartment.
Buuut once I actually closed the compartment it stays there just fine and pressurized and it's working fine until now xD

I believe it's pretty safe if you use a sim cutter. I used scissors on my old sim card and it worked just fine, never got stuck on the sim slot(it was a Nexus 4 with the same type of slot as the Z Play).
I recommend using a nail filer after using the cutter just to smoothen the rough edges (don't want to cut fingers on sharp plastic). I've cut several sims with scissors. Now with sim trays, it's virtually impossible to get the sim stuck in the phone. Only downside is that if you break your sim tray, you can't use the phone until you get a replacement. You'd have to be fairly aggressive to break the sim tray.
Sim cutter is fine. Just make sure its lined up and push down quickly and hard. It needs a clean cut. As above, a nail file MAY be needed on the plastic edges. Do not file anything metal.
Sim cutting is fine, make sure to file the edges to make sure there are no burrs.
The risk is it getting caught on a lip inside of the edges are not straight/smooth - this will damage the sim tray. The issue is the past was people using nano to other adapters. Sometimes the sim card would pop out of the adapter and the adapter would snag on the sim tray connectors, then people would force it out (and this would rip the connectors out as well).
Been using a sim card I free hand cut with scissors from a full sized and again down to nano for years in +40 different phones. Never had an issue. When you cut, print off a template online that shows your current sim size @ 100% scale and a to scale nano sim overlayed. Tape to your sim card and use that to help you cut. Don't sweat it, it's a lot easier than you think!
I have a problem. I need to change SD cards (just a storage upgrade, it was supposed to be...) and have great troubles getting the SD card sled/holder out of its slot.
I already destroyed my fingernails, tried both short nails and long nails. Still hurts.
I wedged a thin slippery plastic sheet under the sled, trying to lift the sled up and then gnaw using fingernails, but to no avail
I overlaid a thin waxy paper over the edge of the sled to get a better grip, to no avail
I tried some tweezers (ill-fitting, failed to find a pair of precision tweezers with something like rubberized tips for better grip) but can't get a hold on the sled.
Alcohols or other non-watery lubricants are out of the question in that slot I think, there's paper(?)
Any suggestions or tricks as to how to remove the old SD card without destroying the hardware? Is the best way to order specialized kit (precision tools/tweezers/whatever) off the internet? I'm pissed off to have to shell out another 20-50€ and spend more time on this issue.
I inserted the original card with great troubles I remember some time in 2018. At the time I already thought that the "mechanism" is a piece of **** and unnecessarily troublesome because spring-loaded eject was a standard feature in the SAmsung devices I had before , but boy, today's in a whole different league of cumbersome. At the very least I know that I'll never buy Sony again if they kept this stupid design.
I bought a used XA2 and it had no SD sled, so I bought one. Problem was, the pins inside were messed up and SD card won't work. This is one of, if not the worst sony SD card slot designs. If it's not coming out don't force it. Chances are you'll bend a pin or two.

I have solved my problem using a slotted screwdriver, applying downward force and pulling sideways. The sled came out after some serious jiggling. The front is obviously scratched up but the remainder of the sled is intact and the slot seems to remain functional. After putting the sled back in, it seems now to come out normally (still a pain though). I switched the old 32G card for 256G and am unlikely to have to touch this slot ever again, so I'm pretty happy about having this resolved.
Sony is still nice enough to ship security updates quarterly to half-yearly; I hope this continues and I can get some more years of use out of the device.
