Can't turn on wifi and camera - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My device model is HTC M8t.And I flashed the ViperOne M8 just now.But I didn't flash the boot.img in the zip file but I flashed M8T official boot.img as the viper boot can't work on my device. As a result,I can't turn on wifi and the camera app.I guess the main reason is the boot.img.So I wanna to know how to fix the problem. Many tks

Hardware like WiFi and camera not working are indicative of a kernel/ROM mismatch. Viper is probably not compatible with that kernel; and therefore not compatible with your variant.

So what should I do to make viper compatible with my device?

One more question, should HTC devices back up EFS before flashing ROMs?

You might inquire with the developer of Viper for support of your device. But if the kernels are different, it may be difficult for the dev to get it working. There isn't anything you can do to make it work, as far as I know.

I've never done it when flashing ROMs on HTC devices.

No, I already said you aren't going to magically make it work by fumbling around randomly unless you have some specific experience as a developer.
I'm no dev, but my guess is that Viper isn't going to work, and would have to be built from the ground up using the stock ROM from your phone as the base.

Then study up, and we look forward to seeing your dev work here!
Understand that the kernel (which is the primary component in boot.img - not the only thing in that file, but the main component) is the vital component that makes the software work with the hardware. So you can see why having the wrong kernel will cause various hardware (WiFi, camera) to fail. You've already determined that the kernel for Viper will not work on your phone. So its pretty easy to conclude the reverse will also not work (using a M8T kernel with Viper).
Perhaps your version is close enough that the Viper team can get the kernel working for your device. But its going to take specialized knowledge, not guesswork.

I don't have any dev experience either, so no, not really!
But seriously, if you search around XDA there are actually some beginner guides on how to setup a kitchen, start cooking ROMs, etc. That is probably where I would start.

First, its not his epic fail... no one knows why it does it. Also, try anti-venom script. Worked for me. Also, please keep in mind, these guys do all this for free in their spare time... don't talk crap about them for something such as this. You kinda need to know why it does it before you can fix it.

Seems standard one would test to see if other roms could be flashed after the fact. That would seem a normal behavior of anyone who flashes roms. Wasn't insulting the guy personally, just his rom for screwing up half the boards phones. Lol. Also I think that script requires a pay app or something for flashing. Cwm doesn't work does it? Or did that change?

I would also add that viper was beta tested for literally months before it was released. No genius tried flashing cm10 somewhere in there? Maybe the author didn't fail I don't know. Either that or the entire beta process is fail. Flashing other roms seems awfully basic. Just thought I'd add that to my last comment though. Again not insulting any dev personally. Just the rom. Months of beta testing to release a rom that screws up your phone is hard to describe in any way other than fail.

Actually, the script is something you flash in any recovery. Its rather simple. Also, I'd challenge you on whether its basic to test that as most of the people who were on the testing team weren't exactly worried about flashing other ROMs after viper... myself included. Whether you're insulting any person or not, you're still calling someone's work (something that shouldn't even be able to work on this phone no less) garbage is rather insulting no matter if you meant it as such or not. Also, check this: the ROM hasn't screwed up anyone's phone, and last I checked there's a disclaimer that says flash at your own risk. I was a beta tester and I'll have you know its one of the best testing groups I've been a part of and everything was covered. Absolutely none of the testing team encountered any issues that weren't soon fixed after. Any and all issues found through testing were eradicated. Only so much can be tested, however, and every device is different. In testing we encountered no problems whatsoever, and the fact that you would make statements such as this is appalling. Also keep in mind cm10 is currently running on a hacked up gingerbread kernel, also something that shouldn't technically work. I'm also typing this now from PACman which is part cm10 and not getting any hiccups. If you wish to continue this discussion, feel free to pm me and I'll even show you in detail the steps taken to get it all off the ground, but please do not reply here further cluttering the thread.
Also, in case you were wondering, if cwm doesn't work for flashing the script, you can always get the free version of the 4ext recovery app from 4ext.net…
Sorry dk for messing up your thread. Icons look sick bud.

Not a problem. Thanks for the info. I didn't even intend to talk about any of that at length. I think you went on about it more than I. Lol. I simply repeat it was tested for months to release a rom that messed your phone up so bad you couldn't install cm10. Seems a big oversight. I know all roms have disclaimers. Doesn't mean where one fails a failure can't be pointed out anyways. That's all I've done. Thanks for the info tho. I actually asked about it in the script thread and never heard anything definitive or the issue really discussed. I'm a simple user. Just do all flashing through cwm. Sorry this thread got off track. Didn't need to be highjacked like this. Agree. Sweet icons. Always fun to change them up!

I never make posts like this. This is usually nitsua or jizzy lately (haha).
I don't like you. From all the things I can gather about you through your posts, you are ignorant and ungrateful. I hate so much the things you've chosen to be. If you want something stable, don't root your phone. Nitsuj17, the "author" of Viper, has released quite a few ROMs for this phone despite moving on to greener pastures. He and the various devs including aeroevan, chillybean, CondemnedSoul, khamsakamal, and others I might be missing have given us ICS and even JB, which is more than we can ask of them for free and more than we've seen from HTC.
Have I encountered lag on ICS/JB ROMs? Yes. Does it suck, yeah. But that's part of the game when you root your phone sometimes. All of our latest ROMs are using a kernel that's too old because newer source isn't available due to being left out to dry by HTC. Be happy you get to even see 4.0+ at this point. Have some respect please, and maybe you'll have ours someday.
Good day, sir.

you are a complete jackass......viper rom was tested for months, and part of testing isnt "can xyz rom work after using this rom", it was verifying the rom itself worked for the end user....the aosp install scripts dont wipe / format all partitions that viper does, so not everything was getting wiped properly for those trying to go cm9/10....someone else made a script to wipe between viper and cm9, so great

I've only been in this thread for 2 minutes and already I can tell you are a complete worthless contribution to this community and the Android system all together. It is people like you who make the iPhone people actually have a point. You are everything that Android should not be, do us all a favor and just shut your mouth or go get an iPhone because clearly you don't deserve the benefits of Android. You do nothing for this community, and just run your mouth like you know what you are talking about, offending contributors that spend hours upon hours of their free time to do this. If you are too dumb to figure out how to flash from one ROM to the next that is not the developers fault, it is user error, and not just user error you come here and bash people because of your stupidity. It's people like you that make the real contributors not even want to publicly release their work. Go away, grow up, get a life, and get off mommy and daddys verizon plan, we don't want you here.

[Q] WFS cyanogen-battery save-restrictions.

Hi all,
I'm new at xda and love to be involved with the devices. I searched something about my question but couldn't find anything that satisfy me. Thats why I made a post. If a made a mess, I already apologize for all.
I'm using Infrarom v0.3 on my Wildfire S and I'm very noob at android issues. So, could you please be clear?
my questions are:
1.What are the bugs of cyanogen 7.2? what makes cyanogen 7.2 better? or do you suggest me cyanogen 9 or higher?
2.What is the most battery-saver rom? cuz Infrarom is quite bad at battery performance.
3.Is there any restriction to get back in terms on kernel or something if I flash cyanogen or other roms?
King regards
Uncle

when it comes to restrictions, there was some limitations in iOS. For instance, if you update your iphone to 4.1 version, you can't downgrade it to 3.1 anymore. maybe in illegal ways but it was quite painful. thats what i meant there. I apologize for my awful wording

yes I did all. wipe,flash.etc.. But, I didn't like it. it wasn't faster than my old Infrarom. Only the visual things are good. Also, I flashed Gapps and it works but i couldn't download any apps. because it doesn't download anything. Just waiting waiting and waiting... no error or something...
whatever. I will try another roms. Because I have to solve my problems. I can't talk with someone because of my handset. Sound is too low. I can't hear anything when I go out. I have to use speaker on every call. Do you know anything that make my handset sound higher? not the speaker just handset.
One more, touch menu buttons are not working. I tought that it is realated with the rom. Now, I think it isn't. Because there is no setting about it. And I changed my rom, problem is not solved.

Yeah... Cm7 is quite old and the problem might be because of the gapps.
Does that handset problem exist in every Rom? If it is solved by switching roms, it is a software problem. If It's not solved, it is a hardware problem and it is advised to take your phone to the service.
Touch input is mainly caused by improper flash of gapps. Try wiping it and flash everything again

Phone reboots after entering SIM card pin code

Hello,
I just updated my phone to the last MIUI version (3.5.24) and have an issue: after typing my sim card pin code the phone softreboots, and there's no way of passing through there with the sim card. Can use the phone without it. That happened to me too on the previous release, but not on 3.5.10, which I can still use.
Did a full wipe and the problem with this version persist. I heard some people having the same issue, so I guess it is a rom bug?
If anyone has any idea, please share!

Can use the phone without it. That happened to me too on the previous release, but not on 3.5.10, which I can still use.
Did a full wipe and the problem with this version persist. I heard some people having the same issue, so I guess it is a rom bug?
If anyone has any idea, please share!

Have you tried wiping dalvik+cache in recovery?
Yes, I did, and the problem still there. I tried using my card in another device and it works, and with previous releases, and with different roms and it also works. The problem only exists in the last two miui releases, but not everyone is having the problem... Is quite strange, don't you think?

Contrary to what I used to believe, the hardware axross the dhds and inspire differs ever so slightly depending on when it was produced. Its only very small differences which is why we have these little anomlies in some roms/kernals working for most but refuse to work for a handfull of users. You might want to find a different rom. Changing the kernal may help??

I thought about it, but I sincerely don't know which kernel I can use, I'm pretty noob. Phone info says I'm using kangbang kernel, which other can I use?

Neither did I until Awidawad and Curtis1973 helped me out. Those guys are great.
Honestly it's quite simple. Just a few files that need to be switched and some build.prop edits to get it to boot. 3G and WiFi are iffy sometimes and random bugs that aren't present in the GSM version aren't a big surprise.

Hmm that sounds easy enough besides the part about fixing bugs and things but I guess I should talk to them about doing my own roms and porting things myself. I like this phone but it has very limited support for development and I want to help out and bring us hov users something new

If you replace the RIL libs and files it can function better. Use another 4.2.2 ROM for ril libraries if you want to test this out (Not sure if it will work.. I haven't actually tested it)

^^^ This guy too. He's helped me quite a bit but the RIL libs aren't really necessary I believe. Connections speeds are the same. MMS fix has to do with the APNs so it's pretty easy to fix.

I'm afraid not.
There has been a report of it working using CM10.1 RC1 in another thread but i couldn't find a version that didn't crash my HOX to test myself.
Shame for htc because with bt4 we at least need android 4.3

I have gave this some further testing. I can now confirm that the watch and app work with CM10.2 (Although it is a bit flaky). I have also tested with Beanstalk 4.4.2 which is so far working a lot better but the app does still drop the connection.
If you are comfortable flashing custom roms and don't mind losing HTC Sense, then give them a try. Just remember to backup your current rom and data, read ALL the instructions and be sure you know what you are doing first.
Going to give the latest nightly CM11.0 a test in about 5 mins too, so i will post findings here (mainly if it works or not). To be honest, i don't think I'm going to keep using a custom rom installed just for the sake of a watch. I am wondering though, what is so different in these roms that allow it work? If anyone knows, i wonder if a patched 4.2.2 rom could be created and if the app told to ignore the SDK version.
Bluetooth Low Energy thats the difference. For me its okay to use custom rom. But i want a stable conection and o am thinking to buy it or not for hox

Can also confirm app and watch working with OmniROM 4.4.2.
Edit: connection dropped with 1min.

Looks that way I'm afraid. So far, the most stable connection has been with Beanstalk ROM. I have just installed the latest CM11.0 nightly and again, app installs, connects to watch but for how long remains to be seen.
Wish the cookoo devs would just post the first version of the app they had working on the HOX to here. Maybe a solution could be figured out with the clever devs that are on XDA.
Pretty annoyed about it myself as when i had got the watch, it clearly stated their first version of the app works on the HOX and future releases would too. Can't even send the bugger back.
Update: CM11.0 also seems to be holding a fairly stable connection so far. Alerts seem to be working fine too.
Maybe you can try the AICP 3.0 rom?

I'll give it a shot and update as soon as possible. With CM11.0 connection drops 6mins or so of use. Doesn't reconnect automatically.
Not their fault obviously, they've done a great job with it.

Tried the AICP 3.0 Rom, kept giving me bluetooth issues, switching off immediately.
I give up with this stupid watch, it's getting well punted on ebay, devs can't be bothered writing an app for BlueZ stack so they can rattle.
So that means no cookoo for me must upgrade to other phone..
