Can I flash a stock tmobile ROM onto my phone or does it have to be a custom ROM?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
If you mean the stock firmware, no! You can flash a rom though and it should boot and run ok for the most part. But imo, it'd be best to stick with with roms built or ported for the I747, assuming that is the model you have.
Yeah it is I'm just trying to get the tethering working for my wife since we have T-Mobile it won't work
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Oh, in that case, try a T-Mobile stock based rom. Cant guarantee it'll work perfectly, but it'll be ok to at least try.
So I can use any stock T-Mobile based ROM on my Att phone and it won't brick it or soft brick it...and is there a patch I need to flash? Or just the rom
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
The roms are pretty interchangeable. You might need to factory reset, and there's no guarantee it'll be stable, but it shouldn't brick as long as you stay away from firmware and modems. Only flash roms and kernels m
OK cool thanks...what if the T-Mobile ROM has the boot loader and modem with it then...don't flash it I take it?

Correct.
Alright thanks guys I'll give it a try

Im thinking about rooting this phone and I would like to know what rom would be good as a daily driver. Another thing is that im thinking of doing the same to my moms s4 but for her I will need a basic rom that will not have any bugs since she doesnt know anything about root. And would 4.3 be good to start or does it have many bugs in it.

All of the ROMs here are good enough to be used as a daily driver. They each have their pros and cons, and all of the AOSP/CM ROMs have little things here and there that don't work JUST right. It's up to you to try them out and see what works for you. I recommend doing a bit of reading on the development and original android development sections.
I'd put wicked 5.1 on both s4s

any one you want, there is no best rom, there is no best battery life rom
I am using wicked 5.1 . but if you want simplicity for your mom's s4, I would go with an AOSP ROM. And for you, you have to try them all out to see which one you like. Everybody has different preferences.

So would it be safe to put 4.3 stock no root on my moms phone and put cm10.2 on mine
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda premium
All of the above is correct, there is not one rom better than the other, it is a matter of opinion, and here I have put together a guide for tw roms...
take your pick.

For you options are endless Try wicked...its full of goodness, or jedi Roms or jovys Roms.
I and most prefer Wicked roms.
Your mom probably won't benefit from any root or roms.. but if you insist on Rooting leaving hers on stock Rom is always a solid choice.

Woudl it really be worth it to root this phone. I like a stock feel so would CM10.2 be the right way to go.

Heard it's a great rom

This has become my favorite ROM there is so much you can do with it its much faster than omega much more customizations there and they have released a T-Mobile version just install the ROM and the T-Mobile comparability pack after the ROM do exactly as the ROM instructions say. Good luck

Don't forget to flash the compatibility pack
what's our newest firmware or bootloader? I'm seeing MJ5 in TMO Dev Threads for ROMs and to my understanding that was only for the international phone. I used to be able to flash all the i9505 ROMs but now with 4.3 I've been told not to. Data goes in and out unless you have MJ5 and I really want to run the i9505 4.3 ROMs. It even increases WiFi and data signals too significantly.
I think I have old software since I haven't updated bootloader or anything since march.
anyone care to share some light here?

MDL is the latest official firmware / bootloader for the T-Mobile S4.
MJ5 is indeed an International firmware, but as you said, data goes in and out when the phone goes to sleep.

I would think so. You need to flash modem and kernel separately right after flashing rom.

Someone in my post asking "how happy are you with n2" mentioned that t-mobile users are facing signal drops because its not official 4.3. I cant decide whether to buy att n2 and unlock it for the roms or just get tmobile and flash att roms. Give it a try.

Hey guys I was wondering if one of you nice devs can tell me how to port roms from the t-mobile n3 to att n3. I have a basic idea on how it's done I just want to know from a person that has successfully ported one to att n3. Thanks in advance.

I have never ported the roms... I do think if you use any of my roms or from other dev it should just work without any issues, all u need to do is just check ur apn settings to make sure everything is correct so u can get data and mms working. so just make a backup first, then flash the rom..

The problem is I like the t mobile roms. But they won't work on the at&t n3. Because of the locked bootloader and kernel. Otherwise I can just flash it without any issues.

SafeStrap only for your ATT device. Even if you port over successful, you will always have a locked bootloader. Sorry

How about if I change the bootloader and kernel in the rom to the nc2 at&t version. Do you think that might work and I will get a fully functioning port?
