what's our newest firmware or bootloader? I'm seeing MJ5 in TMO Dev Threads for ROMs and to my understanding that was only for the international phone. I used to be able to flash all the i9505 ROMs but now with 4.3 I've been told not to. Data goes in and out unless you have MJ5 and I really want to run the i9505 4.3 ROMs. It even increases WiFi and data signals too significantly.
I think I have old software since I haven't updated bootloader or anything since march.
anyone care to share some light here?

MDL is the latest official firmware / bootloader for the T-Mobile S4.
MJ5 is indeed an International firmware, but as you said, data goes in and out when the phone goes to sleep.

Anyone knows if the SGH-T999V (Videotron, Wind, etc.) is getting the 4.1.2 update anytime soon?
I know they're usually slow with updates.

It should roll out in a week or two. I just have custom rom running 4.1.2 stock touchwiz try out axis rls 19. It's all themed but you can just choose stock and it has a lot of modifications.
I get s4 weather widget though. Here's the link:

I was on chat with a Videotron tech and he told me there's no date set for when the 4.1.2 firmware will be available.
I guess the same goes for all Canadian carriers of the S3 (version SGH-T999V).
Any news from Wind or the other Canadian carriers?
Sent from my SGH-T999V using xda premium
In the past they didnt announce a date, they just did it. Im certain itll happen though. Just gotta be patient I guess.
You can still flash one of the 4.1.2 roms based on the us version.

Well, it's been a while now and still no 4.1.2 update on Videotron, or any other Canadian carriers from what I've read so far.
Must be stock at the border! (silly Canadian humor).

It seems we've been waiting long enough already but, what can we do?
I tried some of the roms based on 4.1.2 but I prefer to get the real update.
So, more of the waiting game!
Thanks for the reply.

I don't know what you mean by "real update" since the T999V's only difference is the baseband. If you get a stock rooted build of MD5 (Root66 is a great example), you have a "real update" to 4.1.2. Its just not official by Samsung but it will work the same as an official release would.
actually, there are more differences. Each of the 3 Canadian versions are very close to each other indeed, but there are small differences in what bloat is added. Plus I was also told one of them (videotron I think) uses different network technologies than the other two.
None of them have T-Mobile bloatware though and are quite lightweight in that regard I've been told.
You are correct though, that any of them can use each others builds (minus baseband) and can easily get 4.1.2 by doing so.

Does anyone know if any of the Canadian variants have gotten the 4.1.2 update yet?
It does look like AT&T (SGH-I747) and the Canadian variant (SGH-I747M for Rogers, Telus, etc.) also doesn't have the 4.1.2 update.

I'm running this phone on the tmobile network after I downgraded from 4.3 to 4.1.1 to unlock the phone. That worked perfectly and I'm now in tmobile with LTE and everything. My question: if I upgrade back to 4.3 will that lock the phone once again? I wouldn't want to go through the process again if it meant I would be locked from using my phone. I ask because of security issues with 4.1.1

Negative..
The carrier dependent information will be different when using the ATT device on T-Mobile....
You'll need the MK7 modem to get the device working...along with the t-mobile sim card...
ATT will not recognize the device...g

I'm on t mobile now and did not change anything. Using the MK6 modem that came with the 4.3 ATT upgrade a while back.
Only functionality that I lost was hotspot that is blocked by some ATT system files.

No issues if you are on the tmo network...
Many users have ATT devices using mk7 modems for tmo...
It's the only way to get full device function...
But if an ATT modem is working fine for you...there is no problem leaving it if you prefer...g

Can I flash a stock tmobile ROM onto my phone or does it have to be a custom ROM?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
If you mean the stock firmware, no! You can flash a rom though and it should boot and run ok for the most part. But imo, it'd be best to stick with with roms built or ported for the I747, assuming that is the model you have.
Yeah it is I'm just trying to get the tethering working for my wife since we have T-Mobile it won't work
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Oh, in that case, try a T-Mobile stock based rom. Cant guarantee it'll work perfectly, but it'll be ok to at least try.
So I can use any stock T-Mobile based ROM on my Att phone and it won't brick it or soft brick it...and is there a patch I need to flash? Or just the rom
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
The roms are pretty interchangeable. You might need to factory reset, and there's no guarantee it'll be stable, but it shouldn't brick as long as you stay away from firmware and modems. Only flash roms and kernels m
OK cool thanks...what if the T-Mobile ROM has the boot loader and modem with it then...don't flash it I take it?

I have never ported the roms... I do think if you use any of my roms or from other dev it should just work without any issues, all u need to do is just check ur apn settings to make sure everything is correct so u can get data and mms working. so just make a backup first, then flash the rom..

The problem is I like the t mobile roms. But they won't work on the at&t n3. Because of the locked bootloader and kernel. Otherwise I can just flash it without any issues.
