I'm going crazy here. I'm good with all this type of stuff but nothing is working. I want to return my phone to stock so I can exchange it for a new one at verizon. I keep getting the waiting for device error in fastboot. I had this problem a lot with trying to unlock it too. I'm not sure how I ever got it to work. I've downloaded and installed the drivers multiple times and still nothing. Can someone help me figure out what I'm doing wrong please?
I'm using windows 7 64bit. The drivers aren't right in device manager.
The drivers are fishy in windows 7 64bit. Download PDA net to your computer. It will install drivers correctly. Sounds weird but it works.

I've certainly noticed that they are pretty messed up on Windows 7. Unfortunately I've already done that and it still doesn't work.
Reboot your computer and plug the phone in and let the drivers try to install automatically, worked for me.
So I installed the driver a different way and it worked fine this time. I'm not really sure why I never tried that way before or why that way worked differently but it did! Thanks for the suggestions.
In what way did you install it? I'm having the same problem and it would be nice for search purposes.
i had issues with drivers on win7 64x, first, it would take for ever once the phone was plugged in, for windows to initially auto-install the drivers (after installing the ones from samsung)....a very long time. but, even after 3/4 of it installed correctly, i hadn't noticed that the Android 1.0 drivers didn't install at all. If you goto control panel->system->device manager, see if there is an alert next to 'Android', if so, open it, choose to manually install the drivers, but don't select a location on your hd, use the list of available drivers already on the computer, find 'samsung', and select the drivers that come up (again, had to download samsung drivers from their site and install that First)
this fixed the issue for me. and nothing like a good ol' reboot too to fix random windows issues : )

If I enable USB debugging on my Verizon Galaxy Nexus and connect the phone to my Windows 8 machine, the PC crashes.
Has anyone else successfully connected to a win8 pc while in debug mode?
I have problems like this on my win8 too.
Windows 8, while it is in RTM mode, there is still a lot of work to be done on it. I would not recommend upgrading your desktop or notebook, unless you have a touch screen. Win8 is awful in my opinion, with some cool features.

Sadly as an IT admin I don't have the luxury of "Skipping" OS's and must learn them whether I like them or not. I will test this out and get back to you OP.
Thanks. I don't mean for this to turn into the pros/cons of win8, I was curious if others had seen the same behavior.
The system looks like it tries searching for a compatible driver and crashes with a "Bad_Pool_Header" error.
For me windows 8 installed the correct drivers by itself all i had to do is enable it in device manager
Both of my Dell workstations crashed, but my Lenovo ThinkPad didn't. Appears to be hardware/driver related. I'll keep digging.
I also have the same problem and error. Any solutions?
had that problem only once, now it works fine

I resolved the blue screens by installing Samsung Kies which installs the USB drivers for the Galaxy Nexus. Afterwards Windows 8 (Pro RTM 64bit) correctly installs all drivers when using USB Debugging mode, no more blue screens.

That seems to have fixed it! I even uninstalled the Samsung Kies software (but kept the drivers) and everything is working smoothly.
Thanks again.
Hi I have that stuffs what in the title, and have connection problems also
I have 64 bit Win8 Pro so I have media stuffs and all what Kies need. I installed Kies, restarted the machine and try to connect phone. Connected the USB Kies still write to me Connect some device.... In windows device manager have an Unrecognized Android Phone, so I think driver sucks. Try to connection problem wizard in Kies, doesn't help. If I run as an admin don't help to me....
Have some way to manually install that driver in win device manager?
Under win7 64 problem few weeks ago I can use my phone with Kies, but with win8 I can't.
I hope we can figure something out guys!

Please anyone help me out!
Same problem
Im having the same problem. My pc doesnt recognize the phone(with kies installed and the latest updates from microsoft and samsung)(with drivers ofc). I have contacted with samsung support center and they say that so far they cant guarantee that kies will work fine for all the devices in windows 8. I ve never had windows 7 so i dont know about a problem there. I ve upgraded from Windows XP(which Kies was working exellent) to Windows 8 and now im facing these problems. Hope to fix soon
Samsung galaxy ace, gt-s5830, 2.3.6
Windows 8 Pro 32-bit
Win7 drivers "SHOULD" work with Win8... but anyways, did you try uninstalling ALL drivers of your phone and removing cached drivers from your system? Then do a fresh install of drivers try offline first. It doesn't work, remove everything and try if windows itself can find the driver for you. But usuallly the phone itself would make the PC install the drivers the phone needs.

Galaxy Ace 2 is I8160 not S7500
Good Evening folks,
I'm posting here after spending the better part of 2 days trying to figure out why this doesn't work.
So, i have the following:
model: GT-N7100
Version: 4.1.1
Build: JRo03C - ALJ1
I run a PC with windows 7 and also have a laptop with windows 8.
Now, initially i only wanted to root my device to install an addblocker on it and get rid of some bloatware. so i went and got samsung note2 toolkit here on XDA. (also tried others)
but no matter how i tried the pc (nor laptop) would see the note 2. it would plug in, it would charge... but windows ignored it otherwise.
i have tried al 8 of my USB ports on the desktop, and all 3 on the laptop. none of them work
3 different USB cables.
re-booted more then times then i can count.
i have manually installed the samsung drivers.
i have tried installing the windows MTP Porting kit
all to no avail.
So before i can even START to root... i need it to to play nice with my machines... anyone have ANY suggestions on what the hell is going on here.
If your main priority is to root then use exynos abuse

Thanks for that! found the APK file and got it on the phone through email and it's rooted, so my mission is accomplished...
but my problem still persists:
why oh why wont windows just play nice with the phone?
Did you install Kies on your PC? That program needs to be open when you connect your phone and then it will install the needed drivers.

Or install the drivers using the Note Toolkit http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1923956
Does it show as an unknown device in windows under device manager?
I'm having the same issue but I have a suspicion that its the USB port on the phone itself as my gnex can use the same cable/USB port and show up as mtp.

my windows is same
My Note 2 N7100 is 'seen' by my windows 8 machine, but it doesnt seem to copy/ paste anything. Pops up with an error. The same happens on a Mac Lion machine. Installed the Android File Transfer app, but the moment I connect my phone, it pops up a message saying please restart your device so that it can be detected. I am tired of transferring individual files over AirDroid Any help?

first of all I forgot to mention that this should've been posted in Q&A section
for the problem try the following steps. after each one of them try connecting again. keep net disconnected while you follow the steps.
if it starts working then stop other wise continue.
1)use a diff comp, but you already did that , use a different cable, you didn't mention it
2)try uninstalling drivers via programs and features.
3)try installing drivers - preferably via mskip's toolkit
if you have windows 7, then directly install it
if you have windows 8, then first disable driver signature enforcement via this guide's last question.
4)try re installing windows. if you don't wanna do that then
open device manager
in view -> show hidden devices
delete each one that says samsung, note ii or note 2, android, google, adb, gt-n7100, n7100
this will ensure that you truly remove drivers
follow step 3) after this.
Hope I helped
All the usual and helpful ideas have been listed and you should definitely work thru those to make sure you are not missing something obvious but critical. I also use Win8 (64) and all was well with my Note2 showing up as an MTP device and wll working then one day, seemingly spontaneously, it suddenly didnt! When I would plug my Note2 in, Windows would give me a USB error telling me it could nto recognise the device! To cut a long story short, I tried my wife's S2 and IT appered fine as an MTP device happily enough, so that ruled out the cable, the port and the computer/OS.
I then tried my Note2 on my laptop, and once again it came up as USB error, so the problem was following the DEVICE around....
After a lot of googling, I tried on thing that fixed it instantly:
On the phone, go into Settings, Security and delete all the "Device Administrators" which in my case was just my Email app. That did delete my email account from my phone (contacts, email etc) but didnt matter as phone is just a dumb client to the mail server so no loss of any real data.
Once removed, I then plugged phone in and BOOM! MTP device happily appeared! I then went back in and just re-added my email account and re-activated Device Administrator when asked. Working ever since.
Not saying this is your problem, but it was an eye opener to me that the Device Administrator could 'lock out' the USB connection of the device....
Hope this helps.

I would also recommend checking your Windows Update log - especially if you have it set to automatic updates. After I installed the drivers off of the Samsung website, Windows Update tried to "Update" my drivers to an older version (I do manual Windows Updates). The first time it asked, I let it, and my phone couldn't connect anymore. Once I stopped that silliness I stopped having problems.
same problem usb not conecting with my pc windows7
all this is my same problem which I facing help me about how to slove this matter

I was having the same problem, but I was using a USB cord that I had from my old phone. Switched to the white one that came with my Note 2 and it started working.
edit: after reboot and usb debugging enabled, all is fine. thanks anyway.
hey guys
so here is the problem. when connect the nexus 7 2013 wifi to windows 7, the drivers are installed and the tablet connects to the PC without a problem. but when i go to android SDK and install the Google usb drivers through there, in my device manager it recognizes my nexus 7 as "samsung phone" and my nexus doesnt connect to the PC untill I uninstall those newly installed drivers.
what am i to do? should i go on? should i trust the drivers that are automatically installed after i connect my tablet to PC? what should i do?
thanks in advance
