[Q] Camera tap to focus and shoot - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, got my G3 yesterday. I'm 99% sure that I could tap to focus and shoot in one step. Today I need to focus, then press the camera button. Any ideas?

Lumia 900 Camera Button not waking phone

I'm not new to windows phone, but the Camera Button is not waking up the device on my new Lumia 900. I double checked and have the exact same settings set up on my HTC Surround, which is working correctly.
Anyone else have this problem or solution?
Thanks,
Mine doesn't do it either. I just assumed it was designed that way.

It should most definitely. How long do you hold down the camera button for?

No, it is not. Microsoft is very pround of the fact that press the camera button can wake up any WP7 phone in any state (other than shutdown) and launch camera app automatically. Try hold the camera button for a few seconds.

this worked for me, i think people are just stoping halfway when they hit the focus click
EDIT: mine only works sometimes
I've tried holding it down for a few seconds, longer than my Surround. I think it's a hardware issue. However, it does work with the lock screen in place. Just not at full sleep.

You got a point. Holding the camera button down does not work for me. Press, release and press again does. I wonder if theres a setting for that
I can also confirm that it does not work every time. I have to unlock and re-lock, shut off for it to work again. Hope this is fixable in a firmware update.

If the phone has been asleep for a while, it does not work. No matter how many times I depress the camera button and no matter how long it's depressed, it does not work.
It only works if the phone has recently gone to sleep and even then I have to hit it twice sometimes. IDGAF really, doesn't matter to me....

Ok tried rebooting, changing camera button settings and it still doesn't work. Plus with others having the same issue I'm pretty sure it's a defect. Just giving up on the issue isn't a solution so I'll contact Nokia (God knows ATT won't help) and get back here with the results.
Keep in mind this was a selling point - "Smoked by Windows"
Guys... try pressing the button all the way in with some force. It should work. Seems they designed it so it will not accidently get turned on by mistake.

already tried and it wasn't designed for too much force

Ummmm... I feel like "EPIC FAIL!!!", but that worked . Just wasn't use to that with my Surround.
I figured it out
If you press, release, press, release, then press and hold for 2-3 seconds, the camera will start up from a fully closed state.
Mine works every time. No matter how long its been asleep.
I don't have one lol

trick with that camera button wake up: push it fast and hard.
from playing with two wp phones i've owned, i think it's because of the difference between focus press (no wake) and shutter press (wake). problem is they are two stages of the same button. the phone tells the user intent apart by measuring the time from passing first stage of button press (focus) to arriving at bottom of the press (shutter). if it's shorter than a particular value, it wakes the phone. that means you have to press it firm enough to get to the bottom of the press, and fast enough to beat that timer.
if you just press it lightly, it either doesn't get to the shutter stage at all, or doesn't get there fast enough.
it's a bit dumb, because you kinda have to slam that button hard. on the other hand, you don't want to accidentally wake the phone.
Quick press seems to work. Hopefully they fix the timing so it's easier. The Samsung Focus timing was good, and worked every time.

[Q] Camera Button (below volume keys)

New Sony Xperia Ion (LT28at) user here.
Anybody else having problems taking a picture with camera button on the side of the phone? (below the lock and volume buttons)
Mine will flash and then focus using the button. But will NOT take a picture. I tried changing the settings to use only the camera button on the side. It still doesnt work.
Any suggestions?
I had same trouble found out why it's setup to work as so
Half press for focus and full hard press for snap shot same for unlock direct to camera only half press hold to initiate camera and focus and full press and hold too unlock and immediately snap pic try that send thx it it works

Problems with camera button?

Good morning!
After the first days with the new z1 compact i´m a bit confused about the camera button.
when the device is in deep sleep the camera button does nothing - after using the power button to bring up display, everything is fine.
For me, this is a major software bug - what do you think?
If you enable camera in the stamina mode settings it should work as expected.

Yes, i´ve read information about that. But why is camera button not working when STAMINA is NOT enabled?
Have you pressed it deep enough? It is kinda stiff button.

This annoys me too. Usually works if you press twice quickly.

We could only hope that this issue remains to SW...
The led flash issues on night shots are bad enough... :crying:
Hold it down until phone vibrates. It should bring the camera up. I use stamina and dont have camera enabled in it.

I dont need to press it twice. Just once Press all the way down and hold. the phone will vibrate and wake up with camera app opened.
I have no problem yet. but those comment are important and helpful us.

Using the shutter button for zoom

Is there any way we can slide the camera shutter button to zoom in and out? I recall this was an option on the s9 but doesn't seem to be there on the note 10 plus. Using 2 fingers is not possible in some occasions.

To zoom in and out, ( as far as i remember with my previous Note's) i used the volume button to zoom.
On my Note 10 +, i still have it set to zoom with volume.
At least the volume is a good alternative option to the shutter button ?
True. But I still cannot do that with one hand

Ha, with me,
I'm to "scared" to hold phone with one hand and take a picture.!
If i have to hold it with one hand,
eg if I've been working on my car and hands are greasy, oily .. etc. i normally say the magic words like "cheese", "capture " etc . Voice capture works most of the time for me.!
Ok, video recording, etc, i seldom use.
Good luck.
Yup. But I've installed a ring on the case so one handed is fine. Point is, I need a quick way of zooming. Thx anyways for your suggestions
Ok. So I finally browsed and figured out that the 3 fixed zoom options in camera mode can be used to slide in and out for zoom options.
You can't use the shutter button. However now you just press and hold on the zoom arrows, and then slide to where you want to zoom.
