Using the shutter button for zoom - Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Questions & Answers

Is there any way we can slide the camera shutter button to zoom in and out? I recall this was an option on the s9 but doesn't seem to be there on the note 10 plus. Using 2 fingers is not possible in some occasions.

To zoom in and out, ( as far as i remember with my previous Note's) i used the volume button to zoom.
On my Note 10 +, i still have it set to zoom with volume.
At least the volume is a good alternative option to the shutter button ?

True. But I still cannot do that with one hand

Ha, with me,
I'm to "scared" to hold phone with one hand and take a picture.!
If i have to hold it with one hand,
eg if I've been working on my car and hands are greasy, oily .. etc. i normally say the magic words like "cheese", "capture " etc . Voice capture works most of the time for me.!
Ok, video recording, etc, i seldom use.
Good luck.

Yup. But I've installed a ring on the case so one handed is fine. Point is, I need a quick way of zooming. Thx anyways for your suggestions

Ok. So I finally browsed and figured out that the 3 fixed zoom options in camera mode can be used to slide in and out for zoom options.

You can't use the shutter button. However now you just press and hold on the zoom arrows, and then slide to where you want to zoom.

Hardware camera button not working

I haven't been able to get my hardware camera button to work on the G2. I press the button and makes a beeping sound and I see the green square on the screen but the picture is never taken. I can keep holding it down for 10 seconds after the beep and no shot is taken. I am pressing the button so hard it is about to break. Any ideas? Thanks
mine works fine, so I'm not much help on the hardware button... but you can always use the on-screen button in the lower left corner in the camera app.
Thanks, that is what I have been using, but I don't like the idea of it not working. I called Tmobile and they said I can return it for a new one. They guy was telling me to swap it for a Mytouch 4g but not sure I want to do that, even though I find myself using Swype 90% of the time.
I still have the problem. I got mine a week ago. Has anyone found a solution to this problem? Could it be hardware or software?
rooted DZ w/ CM7
have u tried tweaking the settings....ex..button settings (in main settings) or shutter and delay settings in camera
I actually got it to work somehow.. I don't know how though. But still I'm curious on how it works.

the htc desire Z hardware camera button is a two touch button.
as is, press it once <halfway in> - it focuses and u get the green square on the screen.
press it harder in <all the way down> - it takes the picture.
i myself thought my button was faulty until i did some google searching. cant remember where i read this. but hope it explains it better.

Power Shutter toggle in camera?

Anyone has any idea what this power shutter toggle does?

Its ICS Camera+ that has this option I believe.
I have the ICS+ Camera (paid version) and that option is not there. I am also wondering what app is OP using.
This option is in the regular camera app in the rom that I am running. AOKP Milestone #4. ICS 4.0.3 last time I checked.
You first hit the settings button (the sliders button next to the zoom) then you hit the three little squares icon that is on the left. There you will find that setting.
That function works well on my phone. I set it to ON, and now my phones power button is the shutter button when my camera is open of course.
Thanks for letting me know about this feature =)

I just tried it and it works perfectly! Nice!!
Yeap, i am using AOKP m4
Doesn't work for me though.
tried it on stock kernel and franco's m1 but it still isn't working. it just switches of the screen.
Edit: you'll have to close the camera app and run it again and it'll work fine =)
Turn it on reboot your phone and then it should work.

I found you need to hold the power button down for a few seconds, then it takes the picture. Simply pressing it quickly does indeed turn the screen off. It would have made a lot more sense to use one of the volume buttons.
It doesn't turn the screen off for me. It works fine. I can press it quickly, or hold it down and release. Both snap the pic normally for me.

Yep I agree with the poster above. I can also do it as quick as possible, or hold down for 5+ seconds and let go, and both times it will take the pic normally (focused and everything).

Bump. Has anyone found or figured out how to create a cwm flashable file to mod the stock jellybean camera to do this?

On/Off Button Placement

Anybody else bugged by the fact that they put the on/off button, like, the least reachable place on the phone?
I always have to juggle the phone around in my hand to reach the button, and then I have to juggle it back to reach the unlock ring. I mean, the two things I do most, pressing the on button and then sliding the unlock ring, are placed as far apart as possible. It's oddly cumbersome for such an elegant device. It's just a matter of time until I drop the damn thing. (I guess that way HTC sells more replacement screens... )
The volume buttons are where my thumb is, but I never use them. They are mostly in the way and I press them more by accident than on purpose.
Any idea whether there's a way to switch the on and volume buttons? There's probably no mod that can currently do this, but is this technically possible?
That is where the purpose of volume button to wake comes in handy. And yes, it is possible to do that.
Naah... not with me..
Yes it was a little bit difficult... but now I've become used to it....
there's a a mod for that
volume buttons to wake up the phone
use rc 3.0 or else search its thread

ummm... try searching -apm+ volume to wake
Sent from my HTC One V
I am using the volume wake thingie. But it will, you know, change my volume setting if I listen to any audio. Which I do a lot.
Also, you can't lock the phone with it. Which precludes my main use of the button: unlock phone, check clock or notifications, lock phone.
Anyways, I wondered about the technical possibility of just switching the buttons.

Well, then there is public interest in finding a way to mod the keys, right?
Try a two second timer.
I have somewhat large hands, and the placement doesn't bother me. I can reach the button with my index finger and reach the ring with my thumb.
I do really miss having an external camera button.
yeah its not too much of a problem for me. i can hit the power button, and then use the unlock ring, but it requires a bit of stretching. i dont have to move the placement of the phone in my hand though.

Three methods.
S-Pen. Press button and hold pen onto screen.
Buttons. Press power and home at the same time.
Swipe. Place side of palm on edge of screen and swipe to the other side. Sort of wax-on-wax-off type motion. My personal fave for showing off.

Apps to launch camera

Are there any apps that can control the buttons to launch the camera? Double press power button or something like that?
you can jus swipe down twice when the screen is off/locked

Yea but that is far slower than double clicking the power button as pulling it out of pocket

Double power-button press is definitely easier and faster. You can press them right in your pocket and whip it out and take a photo. I hope HTC adds that in as a gesture.
With Nova launcher I set up the camera to launch when I double tap the screen. Very convenient.

That's not what OP asked for though. You can already swipe down twice to launch it, but having it operated by a double button press would be nicer.
I seem to remember you were able to wake to camera on M9 by holding it landscape and hitting volume up or dn. Doesn't work here, I kinda liked that feature.
just pick the phone up in landscape mode and hit the volume down button.
edit: wait a minute, i just re-tried this and it doesn't seem to be working. i could swear it was working a couple days ago
