I got this issue lately when I try to zoom while recording video the camera app crashes and the recorded video is not saved (is corrupted and not playable). This used to work in the first week I got the phone, I remember using it at least once. I tried clearing data and cache for the app, but no joy.
Anybody else has this issue ?
For me it works just fine on Full Hd - 1080p and UHD - 2160p
This problem appears to be specific to the T-Mobile version. I asked around on Reddit to verify. I too have this same issue. Has anybody found a fix? I'm using the Google camera for right now as I don't need 4k video recording. Maybe a software reimage would help? It's possible they were shipped with a bad image on the device.
I had the same crash in my att device the first time I used it. Exactly the same . video and zoomed and I noticed it didn't refocus then it locked up.

Does it still happen? Were you able to fix it without using another camera app?

I find it hard to believe this phone was even QA'd. Such a basic, useful function was broken out of the factory for almost everyone.
Mine works fine - I will admit I didn't try zoom when I first got it, and now I have updated the media xml files with the ones in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2778570
Not sure if that is making it work or not but works perfect for me.
If I get this same issue will just return my phone...this is crazy!
What I forgot to mention is that I have switched to ART. Could this be the cause ? Anyone with ART enabled on their G3 has this problem ?
Just to answer my own question, I switched back to davlik and still have this problem
I'm having the same issue. Mine is an AT&T LG G3 D850 not rooted and using ART. I was thinking about switching back to DAVLIK but seeing as you tried that and it didn't work for you.... I even restated the phone.
Unfortunately the v10e update doesn't fix this problem we're having
Have you reported it to LG yet ?

Solved
My G3 international version D855 had this problem ... i applied a hard reset and it works ... now it's fine with zooming while recording
I hope that may help
Its a bug in the LG Camera App. I just tried it on the LG camera app = crash, downloaded Google Camera = No crash on zoom while recording.
Edit: LG D850
Just got my G3 on Verizon about a week ago, same problem. Zooming in camera works fine but not with video. It did a few days ago, just noticed today that it doesn't work.
Edit: Tried the files that nest75068 suggested, didn't work for me and ended up making the Camera app crash even when trying to start a video. Google camera worked initially with video, crashed when I tried to switch to the front camera and now crashes on start. Focal also crashes when starting a video.
I'm having this on my unlocked UK (2GB) D855 variant. I've only noticed crashes while zooming while taking 4K video however.
Yesterday got a phone call from LG support. He said he was second line support, but I had to spend 5 minutes explaining to him what ART and Dalvik are and another 5 minutes trying to convince him that sending the phone to LG won't help. Disappointed, but no different from Samsung or HTC support in that respect.
If you have this problem please report it to LG, maybe if they have few more reports they will pull their finger out of their ass and do something about it.
I've called them and they couldn't help me either. I also asked them about there wireless charging stand that they announced along side the G3 announcement and where I could buy it... the person I talked to didn't know what I was talking about... they didn't even understand what PMA and Qi wireless charging was! I asked if they could connect me to someone who knew about there products and they said I had to call back to talk to someone else.... ?WHAT!?!?
I wasn't even aware you COULD zoom while doing video, but tried this at all resolutions except the slowmo and reproduced the bug.

After a few weeks of using my L-01E, I've come across a problem. I can take pictures, but not record videos. Also, whenever I want to use the voice search function, I always get "Audio problem". Do you think both are related? Anyone else come across this problem?

I am having the same problem.....have you figured anything out? I tried restarting my phone and nothing worked. I even restarted the software and nothing happened. Btw just saying its only the voice recording issue, because I tried recording without audio and I was able to record fine.
Hard reseted?
Could be a software problem for you
The cause of my problem was that I had installed an app called "Magicjack", and this app was not fully compatible with my phone. I uninstalled, and after that, everything was back to normal. Maybe you're running an app that isn't compatible with your phone?

Wow! Thank you! You just made my day! I checked this after such a long time struggling with the problem. I too, had Majicjack. The thing is I need majicjack to call for free. I need to call places like canada. Anywho, thanks so much! However, why won't the video recording or mic not work just because of a app? I don't understand that?

Btw you can have the app installed on your phone but whenever you record a video or record in general just make sure to forcestop majicjack. Now this way you can have the app installed and record. I am so happy!
e977, no magicjack
I having the same problem on my e977 running cyanogenmod 10.1 (e975 build), but I've never installed magicjack on my phone.
I managed to solve part of the problem by uninstalling soundhound (I can record video using the camera app), but it still not recording video using Vine or Instagram (Vine crashes, Instagram don't save video).
Any ideas?
[Q] "Cannot connect to Camera" on Stock/Stock based ROM after Play Services 09/19
Hey guys,
So recently Google Play Services updated itself and my camera suddenly stopped working. Yesterday when this happened, I got the "Cannot connect to Camera" error running Task650's initial 4.3 release. I decided maybe it was time for a clean odin and decided to update through Samsung Kies to initialize the firmware to stock. This wiped everything including internal SD so it was a completely fresh start. I then tried using the camera, and it worked for about fifteen minutes until all the updates through Google Play came in. As soon as play services updated, the next time I tried running my camera I got the same Cannot connect to camera message, except this time on a completely stock, un-rooted ROM. I then decided that maybe I should flash again, so I did, making sure to wipe everything. It was working, but this time I kept auto updates off and didn't update any ROMs.
Next, I rooted and flashed Dandroid 4.7 and my camera was working flawlessly all day. Until I tried using snapchat and it required a google play services update. To verify my theory, I updated, and voila, my camera was no longer functional.
So my question is, is there any way around using Google Play Services, or is there a way to flash a version of the app thats not the oldest, but before the newest update? Cause currently I can only revert to factory settings which seems to upset a lot of apps.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
Additional info in case you need it: SGH-I747M from Fido. Stock Kernel. Currently running Dandroid 4.7 but this problem has appeared on un-bastardized TW as well as AOKP.
UPDATE: I now also get the Camera failed error instead of Cannot Connect to Camera
Now even if I uninstall Play Services updates my camera won't come back online. It's dead forever
Have you tried clearing data and cache for camera, followed by a reboot?

I'm in the same boat as you. I originally had the problem using Hyperdrive and a phone without a camera is close to useless so I tried task650's rom again due to having such good experiences in the past with it. My camera worked for a day and I wasn't paying close enough attention to my phone to be able to make an accurate prediction as to why it stopped. I'm considering throwing my hands up in the air and blaming AT&T in hopes of getting a new phone because I've gone stock and back multiple times with the same problem. I can only speculate what the problem is though..would a logcat be beneficial in any way to help narrow this down?
Side note leading up to camera problems: For a while my phone's accelerometer was severely bugged and forced my screen into landscape. Even root apps claiming to force screen orientation modes failed to fix this problem. After this I went bone stock and then used Hyperdrive for a month. 3 weeks in and my camera started acting up; I couldn't take a normal picture, every one was corrupted and had colorful bars blocking over 50% of the image. This problem was fixed by taking about 4 very different pictures in terms of brightness and colors. Later though both the stock camera that comes with Hyperdrive and the AOSP camera would crash whenever I tried using my front facing camera. This eventually led me to where I am currently using task650's rom with no functioning camera. Please help D:
I'll help in every way possible to fix this problem.

Perhaps your camera hardware is faulty. I'm not really sure what in Google play services would make your camera not work.

It did not fix it permanently. I was going to edit my post but I'm a new user still and got distracted during the 5 min post limit. Switching to the front facing camera makes the problem come back. Tonight I'll be going bone stock and if the problem persists would that be proof of hardware failure?

I wouldn't assume its a hardware ASAP but it could be a bug caused by Google. Try going to stock by Odin to see if issue still occurs.

Already tried this multiple times, but thank you! Anyway I sent it back to Samsung to get everything dealt with. I thought might as well report all the other things wrong with it (over heating, slow charging, and now the camera). They said up to 21 days, and gave me the ****tiest Blackberry I have ever seen as a loaner phone. I hate Canadian cell phone carriers. I remember back in the states they'd replace it on the spot under manufacturer's warranty. Seriously **** Fido.
Anyway I'm done ranting and that was off topic so I guess I'll report back here when my phone is back and we'll see if it was hardware or not. Thanks everyone!
Okay after going back to stock my rear camera worked upon opening the application, but when I switched to the front facing camera I got the "can't connect to camera" error and the app force closed. And once you switch between either the rear or front camera, the selected one will become your default...regardless if I clear data/cache for the gallery application and reboot (this worked the first time I switched to the front camera though but not anymore). So now I have no functioning camera and I'm one month out of the 1 year Samsung warranty so I'm pretty frustrated with my situation because I take pictures daily with my phone. Tomorrow I will take the phone to a highly rated cell phone repair shop in my area since I found OEM parts on ebay including a front facing camera and I'm confident they'll be able to replace it.

Don't pay for them to replace the front facing camera for you. You can it yourself. Its an easy fix.. Just have the screw driver and patience to follow a YouTube video on opening the S3. I assure you that once you see how to do it (simple unplug from motherboard) you'll thank me for saving you repair and labor fees.

Thank you for giving me confidence to do this myself. Im pretty comfortable opening up phones to work on them, I just haven't had a reason to open my S3. All front camera replacements I found after five minutes of googling are for the i9300, will the same camera work for the AT&T model?

I found you two front facing cameras for the att galaxy s3. Price is really affording (below $10 total). The i9300 ones work too from what I read but I'd stick to i747 ones if I was you.

Okay so three weeks later I got my S3 back from service. They replaced the camera assembly, and the camera was working for the first day. Now its giving me the same error saying cannot connect to camera/camera failed regardless of whether its the front or rear camera or what app I'm using. I'm really fed up with this, anyone have any other ideas? I havent touched the stock rom since they gave it back to me so I have no idea.

Hey guys. I know this is an old thread, but I'm just posting since my problem is now resolved and if in the future anyone else has this problem they can learn from mine.
So the service center for Samsung here in Montreal is absolute crap, and it took them three tries, over three months, to fix my phone. The final repair code given was 072 and the keyword was Solder (Ressouder in French) which I'm guessing means they had to re-solder the connection to the camera back to the motherboard. Seems to be working fine now.
Hiya, this is my first post on XDA developers, but I am a relatively experienced user. I'm a licensed computer technician and have been using XDA for years.
Anyways, to the point! Currently, I'm using SlimKat on my note 2 ( i317 ). It works great, but theres only one thing that I am having troubles with, and have not been able to fix. When I'm using the app Snapchat and I'd like to record a video it only records for 3 or so seconds before it automatically cuts it off. I searched up my problem, and found a few solutions that worked for other people.
- Disabling hardware keys
- Going into Snapchat settings and change the video quality to low
Apparently this is a problem with all AOSP based ROMs.
Neither of these worked, and I'm not interested in changing ROM's right now. Anybody have any suggestions that might fix this?
What worked for me was turning it to low. Rebooting and taking a video then turning it back to auto and rebooting again. Hope it helps

I have the Verizon G3 & my camera stopped working recently. Even got the o.t.a. update for something to do with the camera....didnt fix it either way. I've looked for stock firmware updates to no avail. Is your camera app opening, but you just cant do anything? Cuz mine tells me unfortunately camera is not working. 3rd party apps dont help either...ugh
Try disabling "OK Google" hotword detection. It fixed my camera error.

So, brand new thing I have ran into recently is that no matter what app I use when I turn the phone horizontal the screen goes black and I can't see the video. Any tips to fix this? I am rooted with xposed.
Is there a screen protector or cover possibly causing this issue?
Have you restarted? (Had a similar issue and restart fixed it)
Sincerely,
ASUS_USA
There is at least one other thread about this. Try the search to see if they found a fix. I had something similar, but only with mp4 files, no matter which app I used. Partial or completely black screen, but the sound was fine. It went away for me with the last firmware update.
No case on there for me.
Hi,
I encountered this problem and have a thread on this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/help/video-playback-issue-ze550ml-2-18-40-7-t3139304). Basically, I had to perform a factory reset in order to fix it. Hope it helps.
Cheers.
Hi, did you managed to fix the problem and how if you did?
I have already performed factory reset with the last update 9/7/15 but still have the same problem.
Is it video files or does this also happen with YouTube and other streaming apps?
Just videos, camera videos that I took and others, Youtube works normaly
