Camera on GPE - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a converted T-Mobile M8 to GPE. I love everything about GPE except for the camera. I have found that I get poor quality pictures when compared to the stock Sense camera. Most photos look washed out. Is anyone using a different 3rd party camera instead of the stock Google one? If so, which ones?

Does anyone else have issues with the camera?

Don't think there is a solution to this. I would say best thing would be to run a customisable ROM and run with sense because sense camera is the best option.

SENSE Roms vs MIUI / Cyanogenmod - Camera image quality

I have been trying Sense Roms on my Desire for quite some time now and i do not find the same Camera image quality in any of the Sense Roms(nor stock) as that of MIUI or Cyanogenmod.
There is a lot if flickering lines when i try to capture an image and the resultant image is also of very low quality and sometimes even blurry . I love the Sense Roms for their cool effects, skins and what not but the due to bad image quality on most i am almost always forced to revert back to MIUI(as they churn out regular updates). Can anyone please put forward a solution or some work around for this?
Sense Rom developers have been doing a great job with porting DHD, Sensation etc to Desire along with some awesome tweaks though. Also not to forget the audio, especially from COOL SENSE 3D, is of a higher quality than either MIUI/cyanogenmod.
Is anyone out there facing the same problem?
I find that sense camera quality is better than cm7/miui.. though thats just me. I was on miui then i started to miss sense.
I have the same problem.
Sense roms take photos too dark and MIUI and cyanogen takes photos perfectly.
Do you know any solutions?

Have you tried using a search engine to perhaps find correct settings for a camera?
Also, MIUI and AOSP use the Desire's full 5MP while Sense only uses 4MP in order to make the photo full screen.

Camera issue

Hello! So after using a couple of roms(currently using the newset ICJ) I noticed the camera quality(or at least that of AOKP/AOSP roms) to be subpar to that of the sense camera you get initially. Right now my friends' brand new One SV takes better photos with its 5MP camera than my One X does with ICJ/Jelly Bam etc. Is this normal for custom ROMs, or am I just overlooking/missing something? Is there is any mod/fix someone could recommend me, as all I've managed to find are mods for Sense-based roms. Thanks in advance.
If you want great camera shots, it's best you stick with Sense roms... AOS/KP's camera quality will remain as it is...
Go to camera settings and select "Super" in jpeg quality....

zoom FX camera app?

Has anyone here used Zoom FX as a replacement for the awesome stock Sense camera? I really want to install PAC-Man Rom because of all the cool features but I LOVE the stock HTC camera app. I take a lot of pictures and one of the features I love about the stock camera is that you can extract still images from video. Plus it seems like the stock app would be best able to take advantage of the One's ultrapixel camera. I'm really torn between staying stock and keeping the camera and installing a custom rom and having the advantages that come with that.

I have this app. It is feature rich. I don't know if you can extract a still with it, I looked within the app and googled it, can't find anything.

I've been using CameraZoomFX since day 1 and it's a perfect fit for the One's camera. I set volume up as the shutter, made sure it's taking pictures as Wide 4.1MP (native), and use Stable Shot. Sometimes the "auto" white-balance isn't the best, but that (and tons of other options) are easily adjustable
Ok... Thanks guys! I think I'm going to go for it and install PAC & buy ZoomFX. I guess I can always restore to my current configuration if I hate it and waste $3 at the very worst.

M8 Camera Quality on Lollipop

Has anyone noticed if the stock google camera performs better with a possible new api for the m8? I'm wondering if there's to be specific api updates for htc's sense camera, or if the google camera is much better?
My gut feeling is that the lower megapixels with larger sensitivity when shooting raw, may either be good or bad depending on how much data is collected with a faster shutter speed in marginal low light conditions. The improvements with ois camera (nexus5) with video is quite impressive, as are the still shots.
Can anyone share their thoughts on experiences with gpe roms (skydragon 5.0 or 4.4.4) with either htc's or aosp camera on lollipop? Thanks.
We can't really make any conclusions until the official gpe ota is pushed out, i really hope htc figures out a way to improve the crappy post processing on the gpe m8.
Here's the thing, Sense Camera will always be better than GPE or AOSP camera simply because the photos that you're taking on GPE (or AOSP) is only 4 megapixel unlike on Sense, you're using ultrapixel for shots. For ultrapixel to work, you'll need sense framework which isn't located in GPE or AOSP. Thus, even if google does update the camera API and their camera app, it'll never be able to take on Sense camera as it utilizes hardware and software to allow ultrapixel to work

Um, no. Ultrapixels is simply what HTC calls the (comparatively) huge pixel size of the sensor. It's just part of the hardware. You are going to get a 4Mpixel image no matter which camera app you use, because that's what the sensor is. That isn't to say one camera app isn't better than another, but the differences are largely in the control and post-processing. (I'm not sure if the GPE camera uses the depth sensor?)

[Q] Slow motion camera on GPE lollipop

Hi all,
I have just upgraded my HTC one M8 to lollipop and it is great. I was hoping though that there would be support this time for the sense camera... I would really love the extra features it brings, especially the slow motion video.
I would definitely settle for another app with the same functionality...? Are there any others around that can utilize the hardware on the M8 to do 720p 120fps video...?
Thanks!

The Sense camera is being added to this GPE rom here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2716306&page=754
Thats a negative, I'm running that ROM and have the sense camera when u try to record in slow motion and HDR it switches to normal recording and the sense gallery doesn't work u have to use quickpic, gpe camera uses a different pictures folder then sense does, but everything else works great! Oh and the skydragon ROM 5.0.1 is awesome!
