Anyone else have troubles connecting via usb with windows 7. I enabled developer options and turned on and off usb debugging. Tried a few different sets of usb drivers from LG and still can't get it to show up in windows explorer. It makes the usb BEEP when connected and doesn't show any errors in Device manager but just won't show up to browse files. Any ideas? BTW I have a GS5 and HTC M8 and they boh connect to this same computer. Not the G3 though. Go figure.

Hey guys i recently got a new pc with windows 8.1 and it doesnt recognize my gnex. whenever i connect it (i tried various combinations of mtp,ptp and usb debugging on and off) it says usb device has malfunctioned. same thing happens in bootloader mode. if i go to device manager i cannot see it under either portable devices or adb interface (the option is not present) i just see a yellow exclamation mark under "usb controllers> unknown usb device(port reset failed)". I have also tried all usb ports both usb 2.0 and 3.0.
anyone have the same problem? the phone works perfectly with the same cable in my other laptop with win7
I solved the issue. It seems that my USB cable was the problem. I changed it and it installed fine. I didn't think of it at first as the same cable works perfectly fine with win 7.

I always have the problem that I can connect to my phone, but sometimes when I try to open a folder, it keeps loading and won't open the folder. Don't think that's an USB problem too, but I'll try...
Wow, I would think this would be easy (coming from a Nexus 5), I just plugged in the N5 via USB to my Windows 7 machine and boom, I could browse the phone. Now, trying to do this with my G3, I have installed Windows drivers and nothing. I plug the phone in and nothing happens other than a pop up on the phone saying it is charging slowly. I've searched the LG site and Google and found references to MTP and having 3 options when connecting the phone to the PC but I get none of those options and cannot find an MTP option in settings. All I can find is a Connect to PC which tells me to use LG PC Suite. I really don't want to install some other software. I just want to browse the phone and copy files over. Is this not possible with the G3?
Switch usb ports. Set up usb connection as MTP.
Huh? As mentioned, I don't get any options to select MTP. Drivers installed, various USB ports tried, nothing happens other than a slow charging pop up.
Edit: Seems the system at work for some reason does not see the device properly. Just tried at home on my PC and it's fine. Bizarre.
If it's a work PC, it is possible your system admin disabled MTP completely. Because, you know... security and stuff.
try going on your phone while it is plugged into the pc
Using USB - C cable to connect my N5X to computer, but the computer won't recognize, load new drivers or anything. I vaguely recall having to set something on my old N4 so resolve this issue, but can't remember what it was. Is this because of the C cable?
Thanks in advance.
Did you checked the USB debugging and also set it to file transfer instead of charging??

Thx Leontine. I had forgot to enable USB debugging, although I am still having issues. When I select "Use USB for: Photo transfer (PTP), I can see the DCIM folder on my phone within Windows Explorer. But when I select File transfer, I don't see anything. What am I overlooking?

Sometimes your computer can install the wrong driver by default
Computer>Device Manager
Assuming you have downloaded the latest usb drivers from google
Find your android device right cllick update driver software> browse my computer >let me pick >Google Inc>Android ADB Interface>Should be good to go..
OR
You can use add on software something like pdanet+ and you should be okay

Yup. You have to manually select the USB mode every time you connect the phone to PC. It gets tiring quick, but not a deal breaker.
You shouldn't have to mess with the USB debugging feature at all. I was running into the issue where it would install the driver and even show "Nexus 5x" as connected but not show up in Windows Explorer, regardless of what connection I set the phone to. Connection settings are available by just pulling down the top menu once the phone's connected.
I went into Windows Device Manager (while the phone was plugged in) and uninstalled and deleted the drivers under "Android." When I then unplugged and plugged the phone back in, it worked. On a side note, it now isn't shown under USB devices or even in the Device Manager, but that doesn't really matter. It's showing up in Windows Explorer.

I'm still not successfully seeing my N5X in Windows Explorer when selecting File Transfer. Photo Transfer works. When I go into Device manager, I found my N5X (listed as a Portable Device and only seen when in PTP) and attempted to update the driver>Browse my computer>Let me pick...Don't see Android as a manufacturer. For what is it worth, I am running Windows 10.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
In the notification center you have to choose the connection mode. It isn't the same as in the developers options...
Thx AlphaGeekV2. From the notification pull down, I chose "File Transfers" but still cannot see my N5X in Windows explorer. Any other ideas?

Try it on a friend's system with W7 and see if it works there. If so, it's something with W10, and we can diagnose further.
Can someone explain why connection of the P2XL to Windows 10 via USB is so troublesome?
At a minimum, each time I connect I have to:
1. Update the device driver via Windows Device Manager from "MTP Device" to "MTP USB Device" (there are two of these)
2. Tap on the P2XL notification "USB for Charging" to change it to "USB for File Transfer"
I have set "Select USB Configuration" in Developer Options to MTP, but this doesn't help.
How can I configure my phone to connect for MTP each time I connect it via USB?
Thanks

Are you using the USB adapter that came with the device, or a standard 2.0 USB A-C cable?
Using the white USB cables that came with the P2XL.
Try just using the charging cable connected to the PC, it's all I use to connect to my Win 10 PC, and the only thing I have to do is make sure the device is set to MTP, I never have to mess with drivers on the PC.
Are your drivers up to date? Are you saving any changes on the PC after making them? Not sure why you're getting the MTP Usb / MTP Device option unless it's related to using the dongle (which I never have)...
It's not Win10 dude, I connect a few times a week for Andromeda purposes, plug and go.

In my case it WAS Win 10. None of my phones would connect for MTP. I frequently use ADB and windows was trying to use those drivers by default. After messing around in device manager I finally was able to select the windows MTP drivers. After that all my phones were able to connect with windows via MTP.

Wtherrell how did you do that? my phone won't even show up on device manager
I I R C I had to delete all the old ones and start fresh. Some of the old ones were not obvious but somewhere on line or in the forums I found some clues about what to look for and delete. I wish I could remember exactly where but I can't at the moment.
USB will not function with my OnePlus 3, I've loaded drivers and still no avail.

As regards the attaching of files, you have to have a minimum number of posts to be able to do that.
As regards the USB, be a little more specific like what you are trying to do, which ROM you are running, whether you are rooted, what happens when you connect the phone to PC etc which will enable the members to help you.
There could be several reasons for this, but lets start with the basics.
Have you tried a different cable?
Have you selected File Transfer (MTP) from usb options?

I get a windows sound like its connecting then in the bottom right where the time is next to that is a root sign then I get a pop up saying exactly.....The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it. Recommendation.. Try reconnecting the device. If Windows still does not recognize it, your device may not be working properly. When I go to the Device Manager/Control Panel it doesnt do anything. I've tried to add adb to the path but maybe added it to wrong path now it won't come on. If there is a work around maybe to re-add to right path. Device Manager was fine before I added adb and added path as per internet search. Device Manager before would say something like error 39. I've tried MTP that doesn't get it to open up either.

I cant even root for the life of me now, Im on 8.0, I'm trying to just root the phone and to start the computer has to recognize it I understand but it won't, with my Oneplus 2 was fine,(I'm thinking maybe phone doesnt have the drivers built in to the file system, you know when you plug in and turn on MTP it shows the drivers app for Windows?) the only thing it errors plugging in.

On my son's pc running windows 10, I didn't have any issues connecting my OP3 to it and viewing files, nor did I have to install any drivers, same for Windows 7.
Hook phone to pc via usb cable.
Pull down notification bar and select "File Transfer" from usb options or go to Settings and search USB and select USB Preferences > File Transfer.
Browse phone from Window's file manager.
If still having issues, you can try and install Oneplus USB drivers, reboot pc and see if the phone can be recognized.

For some reason it's working now don't know what the problem was or even if it was something I did. Either way it's fixed.

If you are running Win 10, you will have to disable driver signing before the correct drivers are installed. May be that was your issue.
