Hi,
does wiping /data/factory reset with CWM also deletes internal storage?
Kind regards
Centzilius
Yes, it does

Hi all,
I am currently running Ir8 ROM meaning I did not need to wipe before I flashed it over the stock ROM.
I would like to give the CM9 nightly kang a go. I was just about to wipe before I flashed the new ROM when it occurred to me that all my files, pictures, nandroid's etc are stored in the virtual /sdcard on Galaxy Nexus.
With my Nexus One all my files were on the physical SDcard meaning they were unaffected by any kind of wipe including a full factory reset.
Could someone explain how this works with the Galaxy Nexus, do I need to back up all my files and nandroid's etc onto my PC every time I need to perform a wipe before installing a ROM to avoid FC's etc, or is the virtual /sdcard on a seperate partition, I'm a little confused??
Many thanks in advance for any help
You would be well served to perform backups of the internel sd card in the unfortunate event of a wipe.
CWM has been written to not format the device partition mounted to /data which has the virtual sd. It instead just removes all files/directories outside of /data/media.
You are safe to perform a data wipe from CWM without losing data in the virtual sd.

Many thanks for your quick reply, that is very helpful. I will of course follow your advice and back everything up before proceeding to be on the safe side!
My question here is if i decided to wipe only my internal sdcard contents, because of slow performance of I/O and files not showing in windows, will the ROM still be there or will it get wiped along with it.
I know that if i wipe data/factory reset in CWM recovery the sdcard will NOT be wiped, but my question is the other way round.
Thanks for help
Hy
Before i flashed CM10.2 (Android 4.3) i had the original touchwizz (android 4.2) and did a nandroid backup of this.
Now i want back to touchwizz but when i restored. I get a lot of fc. (applications that closes)
Before the restore i wipped data and cache. After a dalvick wipe. What is wrong. Thanks
In my opinion its a wipe problem
I have the same friggin problem and cant find a solution

Before restoring wipe system, data, cache and dalvik. Also move all files on internal storage to sdcard or somewhere else. Then wipe internal storage too. Then restore backup and move those files back to internal storage.

Thanks for the quick reply. If I format internal storage, do I need to move files from internal storage to ext sd card? The backup is on ext sd card.

Before restoring nandroid backup.... I recommend you to move all stuff u have on internal storage to your pc or ext sd card. Then format system, data , cache , dalvik and internal storage. Then restore backup. After it is done move that stuff back onto ur internal storage. Formatting internal storage is not needed everytime.
U just do it this time.

I did an advanced wipe, system, data, cache and dalvik and it never worked properly. This time I included internal storage when wiping and that fixed the restore problem. Thanks for the help.
Why i dont have almost nothig of free space on my internal memory? i installed custom rom and wiped everything with twrp recovery but i still dont have any space left.. how to resolve this?
Try Wipe data, System, cache, dalvik, and reinstall phone
Edit: Oh sorry you already done this, i don't know
Boot into twrp...go to wipe then fix or change filesystem of internal storage..check what format internal storage is in..if it is in vfat change it to ext4..! this should solve your problem..
PS :VERY IMPORTANT: you will lose all data on internal storage! i am not responsible for loss of data or bricked phone !
I was facing the same problem . By Factory Data Reset from the settings of Redmi 1s i succeeded in reclaiming 2.3 GB of internal storage.. In the process of reset all personal data, apps and even google apps are gone .. but i restored from the backup i have created before hand
i apologize if these seems like stupid idea, but I come from having a Samsung S4 (sgh-i337) and would save my data to the SD card and wipe all of the internal memory when clean flashing new roms.
is there a way to do that for the 128gb storage space, to save 10-15gb for backups, roms, etc? assuming in TWRP
I got my 5T on Tuesday and already have installed TWRP and rooted my device
I just didnt want to configure it too much if i have to wipe it all to resize partitions
thanks for the feedback
No, u cannot save space on the internal memory that will not be touched. You do not have to wipe your internal memory though when flashing new ROMs. That is completely separate from the flashing process. When flashing you wipe cache, dalvik, boot, system, and data, not storage or internal memory. Flash the ROM, boot up, and everything on your internal storage will be present. Also, this should go in the questions and answers thread.
