my unlocked s-off vzw m7 won't do calls. when i place a call it goes "..errr.. ber ber ber...beeeep" and hangs up; nobody can call me either. spent 10hrs with verizon trying to fix it but they got nothing. Data, 4g/whatever, does not work. SMS and MMS work fine. Push works fine. Wifi works fine.
i've tried different roms, kernels and radios but nothing. one night it worked fine, next morning it was no good. can't think of anything that would have changed.
anyone? it's so strange...

I upgraded to the Galaxy S III from the Vibrant. I had no problems with my Vibrant making or receiving WiFi calls on the secured WiFi networks at home and at the office. However, I am having serious problems with WiFi calling on the S III.
I can make calls (most of the time) and can send and receive texts in WiFi but I cannot answer a call. The phone either does not ring and the call goes straight to voicemail or I hear the phone ring, answer the call and can hear the other party, but they cannot hear me.
I called tech support who had me do a factory reset. That worked briefly, but within 24 hours, I was back where I started. My 911 location situation is sorted, so that is not the problem. I am also close enough to the routers that I do not believe that is the problem either.
My first suspicion was a bad sim card but another co-worker of mine who also has an S III cannot answer WiFi calls in the office either. Now, I suspect some network security issue is causing the problem on both networks I regularly use, but do not understand why considering my Vibrant had no problems at all.
I, too, cannot hear the other party when answering on Wi-Fi. It worked fine at first but now it doesn't. Anyone know of a fix?

The other thing that happens when people call me is that the phone will ring once and then go to a busy signal.
I went to a T Mobile store and replaced the sim card. They also made some test calls to my phone without success. I also upgraded the firmware on my home wireless router. In the end, nothing worked and Tech Support is sending me a replacement phone.
My replacement phone arrived and it initially did not work either. After several hours of experimenting and getting results that weren't always easy to duplicate I have reached the following conclusions:
1. There was indeed something wrong with the original phone.
2. Both phones could answer WiFi calls straight out of the box, but as soon as I altered the Setup or downloaded apps, they wouldn't.
3. I strongly suspect that either the power saving settings or the voice cmd for apps settings are incompatible with receiving WiFi calls. I could not determine that any individual app caused a conflict. When I ran into troubles with the replacement phone, I could restart it and get it to work after altering the phone's settings. I never could get the original phone to do so, however.
4. WiFi calling is still wonkier than it should be compared to my Vibrant. I am still getting calls that go straight into voice mail without the phone ringing, or the caller will hear my phone ring once or twice before it goes to a fast busy signal. I at least feel comfortable that if I hear the phone ring I can answer it, where I couldn't do so before.
Hey, i have just installed the newest MIUI Australia 3.1.11v2 on my HOX, and i have one simple problem.
At first nothing worked, but after a few reinstallations, the only thing not working now is sms and data.
I can make calls, recieve calls and recieve sms's, but i can't send any sms's myself, and i cant get on the internet unless using wifi.
I updated my hboot to 1.39, and if there is anything else you need just ask
Hope someone can help me.

Had sort of issues like you. Did everything to fix it. Turned out my SIM couldn't register on the network of my operator (2g all fine, 3g mess up). If you call the support of your operator, they can look it up. Had to get a replacement SIM.
Try disable 3g and send a sms to someone, when I had 3g on it wouldn't deliver the sms. As soon it was disabled it could.
Not saying you got the same, but most of the issues you report are very familiar with what I got in past.

Well just tried to disable the data, but it didn't work. I just cant see why the problem should be caused by the sim since it worked fine with another rom yestaday?

It started with rooting the device by me. When I got the device I left it stock without root for 4 weeks, after that week I started to get this problem. From one on the other day. It didn't make sense at all.
I serious spent 5 months to fix this, I had made radio changes, RIL changes, ROM changes, removing root, had contact with services centers, had contact with operator, had contact with HTC and none of them worked or could provide a solution. Untill I got a (smart) girl on the phone at the operator support who told me to get a new sim card to see if the phone would register at the network then.
Thats why I say this to you, as none acctually knows what went wrong and you have exact same issues as me. In case you spent so much time to find it out while someone could have a solution available.
A few days ago my texts and calling stopped working on my phone. It is weird because if some people text me I will get all of them at once maybe once or twice a day and I can sometimes respond but it takes many attempts and usually doesn't work. I'm running JBSourcery 5.0 but this did not start until a few days after I installed it and after wiping everything then re-installing the rom it did not fix it. I've tried dialing *228 which took a lot of attempts for the call to go through and when it finally did it still did not fix it. I can still connect to 4g though, just no texting and calling. Anyone know anything else I can do to fix this?
Occasionally, my Verizon Galaxy Nexus won't ring. It'll receive one phone call just fine, and then later, calls will go straight to voicemail. I've tried a factory reset, modem firmware update, and re-activating with *228, but the problem still exists. I'm on Page Plus. Any ideas?
Edit: I realize this is the wrong category...if a mod could move this to the Q&A section that would be great.
I thought *228 didn't work on LTE phones, but I might be wrong on that.
In any case, are you somewhere with marginal reception? Do you live in an old house made out of some strange material that might be blocking the radio? If you have access to another, more reliable phone, can you try calling your phone when it's in different states (awake, asleep after idle timeout, asleep after forcing sleep, etc) to see if one of those is causing it to shut off?

It does if you dial *228# Nope, I have another phone also on Page Plus that rings just fine. I also have full bars on my Galaxy Nexus and have no problem receiving texts.
Same problem here. I learned to accept it'
Fixed it! Turns out this was a phone programming issue. To get it working,
I flashed the "toroplus_for_toro_full_radios-FC12.zip" zip found on the "CDMA Gnex Flashing thread". This wiped out all the CDMA settings on the phone for me.
Next I flashed "vzw_jdq39_radios" to get the LTE radio back to VZW, and then flashed "toroplus_for_toro_cdma_radio-FC12.zip".
The Sprint ROM I'm running then stopped saying "No SIM Card", as expected, and was ready for programming. I dialed *22890# - note the hash at the end - to get the phone to OTA program. After programming completed, the phone received calls just fine! I just had to get data set up at this point, so I connected the phone to ETS, set the active profile to 1 (no 3g, only 1x speeds) and entered "vzw" as the HA and AAA passwords. Voila! 1x, text, and talk works great now!
Hopes this helps someone stuck in the same boat as me.
TL;DR: speaker button in phone app.
I had a similar problem with a simpler solution.
I have a Nexus 1 with largely factory software. The notification sounds, music playing, and phone ringer recently just stopped working. None of the system settings fixed it. Rebooting the phone did not fix it.
After a while poking around I discovered that I had left speaker button on in the telephone app. Apparently it's persistent. I turned off the speaker button there, and everything started working again. So try that first.
Hi everyone,
I have a Sprint HTC 10 that I've sim unlocked. I'm running Mint Sim (a T-Mobile MVNO). This has been working perfectly for 2 months now. Yesterday I was told several times that my phone sent incoming calls directly to voicemail. I tried calling myself with my work phone and it goes to voicemail right after the first ring. I popped out my sim and put it in my Nexus 4 which rang immediately with an incoming call.
I tried several roms, PureFusion, Lineage, and Viper, same with all of them. I'm able to receive texts, send texts and mms, and make calls, but incoming calls go to voicemail. I just ran a RUU to the latest image for the Sprint device. Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this may be happening and what I can do to fix it?
I'm currently S-On, so no ability to downgrade firmware.

Since you say the sim worked on a nexus 4, the problem is definitely within your sprint phone. Just from a bit of googling it seems CID or some form of editing your radio would have been necesary to make it work. Idk what the problem is but the radio settings is where you want to look.

That was my first thought, but it didn't make sense that I'd lose my ability to receive calls after 2 months of it working well. I went S-off, downgraded, reran the latest ruu, wiped modemst1 and 2, re-unlocked the Sim, and still having the issue.
I then tried the sim in two more phones, both gsm unlocked, and had the same problem in them. I tried it again in the Nexus 4 and could make and receive calls, but no data anymore. Trying an AT&T sim in my phone I could receive calls just fine.
I pressured Mint and they're going to send me a replacement sim for free, so hopefully that'll fix the issue.

nice! i've had bad or outdated sims before lol didn't think that was much of an issue anymore, but no that you say that I'm sure it'll fix it. last thing i would've said if APN changed but sounds like that might not be it either.

Weirder still, I went into town today (I live in the boonies but get 3-4 bars, LTE data, and I max out the Mint throttle) and my phone rang. Now that I'm back home it's working again. Maybe the tower just didn't like me and now that I've checked in on another one it'll work.
Edit
And now 20 minutes later it's going directly to voicemail again.
