[Q] stock + custom firmware dualboot

Hello everyone!
I am planing to root my htc desire hd cause i've read lots of stunning stuff you can do when your phone is rooted.
like using the newest version of android, installing google now and so on..
But my question is, is it possible to stay with my stock firmware (and if possible stock kernel?) somehow
and use one or more custom firmwares with programs like boot manager to find one for daily use?
and what are the disadvantages of using a custom kernel? cause i've read the following, looking through your forums:
In the present case,It is hard to say which kernel is good .All unofficial kernel have the same headphone button issue, and only 5 sensors(DHD have 7 sensors).
Click to collapse
(i dont even know what he means with 7 sensors.. )
ps: sorry for being so noobish and thx in advance for your answers!

If you use AAHK (no idea about HTCDEV method) you can simply do a full image backup of your stock firmware, including your kernel (this is called a nandroid backup), after you've rooted but before you flash a custom ROM. Then, wipe and flash custom firmwares to your heart's content. If you ever want stock back, just restore that backup. I'm not aware of a dual boot manager, though.
Usually, the kernel that came with the firmware (aka ROM) is the best kernel. Devs will post about alternate kernels that are compatible with their ROMs. (Note that if you're planning to use the latest version of Android, Jelly Bean, there is a compatible alternate kernel.)
No idea about those sensors.

Yes u can boot multiple roms using boot manager i hv seen it work but i hvnt been able to do it myself or u can say i was less intrested to pay attention. But the answer is yes u can. Head on to the boot manager in play store it gives u all the info u need to get u phone run two or more roms at the same time.
P.S: Speaking of which i think i might give it another go again but this time with interest.

[Q] Help with custom Kernel

Hi Everyone,
I'm fairly new to Android and have been getting used to installing ROMS through CWM etc recently but there is one thing i really don't understand and need some help with
I have a One X locked to 3 (REALLY wish I didn't get my phone with 3) so that means i'm stuck on hboot 1.12.
I've done some research etc and found the tripndroid kernel which allows any hboot to use a sense jellybean ROM and with my limited knowledge i'm not too sure what i have to do to install this kernel.
So my main Questions are:
1. How i would go about installing this kernel with a Jellybean ROM on my phone?
2. What is the best ROM to use?
3. Is it worth it?
Many Thanks in advance to anyone who helps me out here! (sucks being a noob )

[Q] Do I have to do anything with Kernel and firmware?

Hi, I'm going to install CM11 soon.
It's the first time to install custom ROM on this phone.
Do I have to change kernel and/or firmware as well?
If yes, when do I do that? before or after installing CM11?
What choice do I have for kernel and firmware?
How do I know which is the right one for my phone?
Thanks,
All you need to know is in this guide written by @leripe :highfive:. Thanks to him for that.

[Q] Rom suggestions

Hey folks I sort of tired of my bloated stock Note 2014 and I am about to root it in order to perform either a Stock rom cleanup or install a custom rom, so I appreciate some suggestions of what you consider a stable custom Rom.
I am normally ok with stock rooted roms and I like some of the Samsung apps but I have CM10/11 installed on a bunch of devices.
Thanks in advance!
