Something odd happened to me today.
I went to sleep listening to an audiobook, the G3 was at 100% battery.
When I woke up ~8 hours later the battery was at 99%, it was plaing audio the whole time.
Obviously a display bug, when I went to see battery status it said 648 hours left.
So I restarted the G3 and nothing changed, the battery is now at a lower % but it behaves as though nothing happened.
Please tell me the battery micro-controller isn't screwed and doesn't now report 70% as the new 100%.

I had something like this as well, but it went down a tick eventually. i was browsing reddit for 30 minutes at 100%, then it went to 99%. Not sure if it's just amazing battery life, or somethin'gs up.

I would drain it to 0% and then charge it to 100% without unplugging it. That should recalibrate the battery
From 100% > 99% seems to take an age. But soon as it hits 99% it does drain considerably faster.
If you check you batter after you have charged it, it always says Estimated time remaining and collecting battery info... please wait.. until it drops to 100%
I have same issue but its not bother me much. Whats bother me is that some times when I go to sleep and live phone at 60% I wake up tomorow and its 60% and sometimes drops like 3 or 5%...any one have that issue?

Well, it's hard to say but maybe it wasn't a problem after all.
Seems like the battery % is highly inaccurate at top levels. 100->99 takes much longer than 99->98.
I took the advice of someone in this thread and fully discharged the battery and then fully charged it.
It did take a while though, 6-7 hours from <1% to 100%. Using a computer USB port for charging.
Is charging faster with the provided power USB adapter? Or with wireless charging?

Yes and yes, if you use an apropiate AC Adaptor. Pc is usually charging at 500 mA and an Ac Adaptor up to 2 Amps. So you charge 4 times quicker in theory.

I've been experiencing huge battery drops (from 10% up to 20%) after I reboot my phone. Is this a KitKat issue or is it my battery?
In the morning from 99% (after checking a few messages in the morning), I rebooted and I dropped 11% to 88%.
I think It may have been my battery giving me the huge drops. I don't seem to have this issue any more after buying a new one. :good:
I didnt found it on reboots, but i have this problem when i enter recovery. 20 minutes in recovery - i dont hace 20% of battery.

Hmmm that's strange.
I've noticed it usually drops more when I leave my headphones in.
full loaded ACE 2.
reboot cost u 5%
first 10 % gone in a few minutes for heavy users and in a few hours when deepsleep !!
what i wanna say.
the first 10 % gone in a few.
after that normal drain.
I often get this, although not as bad. I usually lose 2-5% on a reboot, sometimes up to 10%. The other week I charged it to 100% when it was off, turned it on and had 92%.
so is this actually a problem or is it normal for everyone?. Mine looses 5-8% in the first couple of minutes after I unplug the charger..

Its normal. I usually lose the first 5% of a full charge in a couple of minutes. After it gets to 95%, battery charge will drain normally depending on usage.

ok then, thanks...I just thought that this didn;t happen when I was on GB, but it doesn;t matter anyway..
If I reboot once, I will lose between 5 - 10% battery. However, if I reboot straight after the first reboot, I will lose between 0 - 2% battery. I've never really understood this.

Battery Charging Issue
Is this normal?
When I charge my battery whether it be from mains or USB computer it charges ok, but as soon as it gets to 100% it still says charging for a little time and doesn't report the unplug charger message right away.
With the Jellybean 4.1.2 system I don't get the alert tone when the battery reaches FULL, therefore I have a feeling that when it still says charging even though it's showing 100% that it's actually decreasing power at that point, any help please?
I have tried other batteries, and one in particular goes from 90% right up to 100% and seems to miss that last 10 percent, so I don't use that one now.
I have the most current firmware installed.
Buy a new one

when it says 100%, you still have to wait for a few minutes before it displays the green "full" icon in the upper left corner and asks you to disconnect the charger.
However, the first 5-8% always drains REALLY fast and not proportionally to the rest of the battery drain...

what about the initial drain? does the first 10% still drop fast or has this changed too with the new battery?
I just wish that JellyBean 4.1.2 would give an alert sound when the battery has reached it's full limit like Gingerbread used to do.
Who would be the best place to ask them to do this on their next update?
But I think that it does..a very short one indeed, but it does, along with the screen lighting up briefly..

I left my 8.4 charged with the wall charger over night, in the morning I found it's only 94% full, this happened multiple times, and I also tried another wall charger it still happened. The battery chart shows it stopped at 94% (some times 95%) and never went up. Does anybody has the same problem? Is there anything wrong with the battery? BTW, the battery life is not good for me, screen on for only 5-6 hrs on about 30% brightness.

Yes that's exactly the same as mine. I contacted Samsung support and they suggested to do a factory reset to see if it's a problem about software, otherwise I'll need to file a service request.

Let it run down to 10% then recharge. do this a couple cycles. You could also try a battery calibration app that wipes the stats and starts fresh.
Solved my issue a while back.
A restart used to fix my issue but now the tab will say it's 100% charged and then at some point drop 10 or even 40% randomly.
Something is definitely wrong with the battery on this thing.
it's not the battery, but the reporting statistics used that is bugging out.

Hi. I dont know if anyone is still on this post but i have this device and ive had this problem for the last year. It would get so bad with all the discharges that my battery died. I bought another battery and replaced it. I still got -300ma when connected to a 1A chaarger. So i replaced the flexi usb port membrane in hopes that would do it but i only got to 100mA. I bought a 2.4A charger and the tab doesnt even recognize the charger is in. Cant really turn it for service because I rooted it so my warranty is void. Any commentary and opinion would be greatly appreciated.:good:
my galaxy tab pro 8.4 stops charging at 96%....
i always charge it from 10 - 15% to 100% by switching of the device...from past week it always stops at 96 and when i switch it on it goes to 100 in a cou[le of minutes...what i s to be done ..i calibrated also..no change..

Custom rom has nothing to do with it. I am running the stock version, and my battery won't charge up more than 64% right now. It seems the problem starts with 96/94% but gets progressively worse. Sometimes it will fix it self for a short time when I replug, but right now even that doesn't work for me.
I checked last night, and I believe the kernel just thinks the battery is nearing it's 100% state. This was a screenshot I took that shows that the battery isn't charging at full power. The closer I got to 64%, the slower the charge went:

Have you tried just using the tablet when it was "fully" charged to 64%? I see three possibilities and I would be curious to know was the case:
1) Your battery is only charging to 64% and when you start using it, it will decrease at a normal rate and you'll get 1/3 less time out of the charge.
2) Your battery is showing 64% for all charges >= 64%. So, it could be at 100% charged and will stay at 64% until you've used up 36% of your battery.
3) It is scaling wrong so that 64% == 100% and the battery percentage will decrease as you use the tablet, but it will decrease 1/3 slower than it used to (aka the time from 100% to 0% when you first bought it would be the same as your time now from 64% to 0%).
Any idea which of those three is actually happening?

Definitely the first one. Right now I am at about 35% and have 2.5-3 hours screen time since the 64% (can't check for a definitive screentime as the indicator doesn't reset unless you charge to 100%). So that would translate to the about 7.5-8 hours I get when I do have a full charge.
I also checked once before when I had this issue by letting my battery completely discharge and then start up my tablet again and I had 1% left, so it was pretty much completely drained. I'll probably charge it again tonight and I expect I will have an even lower full battery percentage.

Also tried that already. Still only charges up to a lower percentage. Only thing I haven't tried is unplugging the entire battery.
It charged up to 100% for some reason last night. The only thing that is really weird that it charged 1% every five minutes from like 85-95% and then suddenly in the last 5 minutes it instantly charged from 95 to 100%. The whole battery thing is just really weird.

not seeing that on mine.
It does this by design. It prevents battery damage and prolongs battery life (in terms of life expectancy and usability over years).

that happened top me on my first charge
just give it a couple charges it will start going to 100
I have to say battery life is great for me on pixel 2 xl. every time i charge it will go all the way to 100 %.
Hmm, I've charged it overnight for awhile now and it still won't get to 100%. It'll say that it's fully charged but will just show 98%
Experienced the same thing on my Pixel 2 XL. I did manage to fix it by powering the phone off for 10mins with it plugged in/charging. Once rebooted it showed 100%. Otherwise it will stay at 98 or 99% forever...
Strange thing happened yesterday. It finally charged to 100% and 5 minutes later I unlock the phone and its back down to 99% while still plugged in to the OEM wall charger (showing charging rapidly).
Copy and paste from my post in the Real Life Review section:
I would leave my 2 XL charging overnight (stock charger and cable) and when I wake up around 7-8 hours later, the percentage would either be 97%, 98%, or 99%. I've rarely seen my phone go to 100% since getting it on the 18th.
Whenever the battery hits 50% and I go and charge it mid-day, it would take a painfully long time to charge up after around the 85% mark (the general consensus and expected). I would check and it would be at 99%. After around 10 minutes, I check again and it shows 98%.
Needless to say, I disabled "show battery percentage". If the battery icon is full, then it's 100% to me.
I have this with my 2 xl too. It'll stop at 98-99, and if I unplug/plug back in a few times or reboot a few times it'll eventually get to 100. But it'll drop from 100 only after a few minutes even unused. Not sure if by design or a minor hardware issue.
Mine was charging overnight to 100% now for the last 2 or 3 days it's only been going to 98% overnight. Battery life is still good though.
I was wondering of was something to do with Battery Stats, maybe needs cache cleared or resetting somehow.
Actually I cannot even get mine to charge to 100%

Actually I cannot get mine to charge to 100 percent except two charges ago. That being said there must be something wrong as using the white charger and cable to go from 2% - 98% it took more than 5 hours ! I cannot get it to go past 99 % and I have been charging with phone off then with on and then according to Google support tried safemode but still no difference. Highly frustrating for a $1k phone. I finally shut phone off for the last 20 minutes and then checked the charge and it is now at 100% but what a battle and a SLOW SLOW charging phone.
I never charge mine to 100%, I usually take it off the charger around 85%. Not had any battery problems, don't think it's ever necessary to hit 100%.
I've had the opposite. Wake up it's 100. Listen to music on the way to work for about an hour (bluetooth). When I get there it is still 100 percent. Put it in pocket for another hour, check phone, 96%.
I turned off my phone when plugging it in last night hoping to make this go away.
When I turned it back on this morning... still only 98%...

Hi all,
occasionally I see my 7 months old Pixel 3a XL can't hold battery power from 11% down. Switches off very fast, abnormally fast. Then if I power it and start it then keeps on restarting until battery level is higher than 5-6%
I use the original charger only. Sometimes it appears, some it does not and I can see it discharges as expected.
I try to keep my battery within 40-100% full and discharge it very rarely to 0%.
Anyone facing those abnormalities? Can't think of connected events - updates, etc ....
Cheers
p.s. after last night happening again, charged the phone from 0% to 86% (phone was off during charge), turned on on 86% and left over night on the shelf. Usually drains 2-3%, this morning it dropped from 86% to 62%. All connections off, nothing unusual shown in the battery usage stats...

I think popular wisdom is that both fast charging and in particular charging to 100% are not kind to the battery's longivety. Divided opinion about the effect of discharging to low percentages. Personally I charge to between 70 and 80% unless I know I'm going to need more capacity. 3a XL has a bigish battery, which helps. I recharge most nights but only to 70-80%. End of day I usually end up between high 40's and low 30's charge.
I manually set all apps I don't actually need to run in background to 'restricted' background use.
I charge mine up to a 100% often, when using it heavy.. I never heard of charging a battery to 100% being bad for it, unless you believe everything that is told or should I say sold to you.. Sounds like a faulty battery. If still under the 1 yr usual warranty I would have it replaced. I have drained mine down to less than 20% and still never experience any issue that OP state.

Some research references in here

Also Apple have actually introduced a feature to stop/postpone 100% charging when the phone thinks it's not required. Would be good if we had similar/more control for Android.

I'm still not sold on the idea that charging a battery to 100% is bad.. But thanks for those links.

It's actually true. Lithium Ion batters degrade over time, the speed of which, depends on the amount of battery cycles they go through (0-100% and vice versa). Others have done the research and the math and found that generally a 20% to 80% and vice versa charge seems to be the best for longevity.
Personally I charge to 100 but try to charge my phone when it gets to 20-30%.

Evidence and research is there. Of course you don't have to believe it. It's your phone, your battery, your money

So very true my phone my money. In all my years of using cell phones, I think I have actually replaced a battery once because it went bad.
Thank you all for the links and the inputs!
One more symptom - when is very low like this morning - 1% and put it in charger - phone shuts off.
I will keep the battery in 40-80% for the future and limit the drain below 40%. I tried to charge it slow with USB - took me like 6-7 hours...
How long it takes you from zero to 100% with the stock charger - looks very fast to me - 0% to 67% in 35 mins
I personally tried to research and could not find what is worse for these batteries - number of cycles (obvious less when used below 40%) or the low capacity usage ?

The included charger is a fast charger, good for headlining how fast it charges, not so great for the battery. I just use a 'standard' (Anker) USB charger.
Jury's out on if deeper discharge is bad, but it's the number of complete cycles (0-100% counting as 1). So 40 - 80% is 0.4 of a full cycle, and you're not stressing the battery so much by taking it to 100%. Many folk here replace their phones frequently enough not to be bothered by all this - if they sell it when 20% of the battery capacity's gone, that's fine.
I've observed the behaviour and few things made me question myself...one time I can see 13% battery and palying Youtube just shutdown the phone. Put it into charger and started showing 4% as initial charge.
There was another time when using Viber video shutdown in 23% but can be overheat or software bug.
I try to keep it these days above 40% charge but still use the supplied charger till I buy new slower one.

The good news is that this phone seems to be pretty easy to repair and a battery replacement could very well be a good option for you, especially since you wouldn't be compromising any water resistance or anything
