I think the steps on galaxys4root.com may be outdated or used properly on an older version of Android. Try CF Auto-Root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2294005

No. However, CF Auto-Root will flash stock recovery. If you want to install custom ROMs, simply re-flash CWM Recovery.

Once you are rooted you have to choose which recovery you want. Twrp is the most compatible with most Roms out there. To get cwm you need to install ROM manager from the market. The option to flash recovery will be inside. If you want twrp download goo manager and the option to flash will also be in the app. Good luck!

You can also get either TWRP or CWM as a Tar file that can be flashed in Odin.
You can also download the .img files and flash either with Flashify.
There are a lot of ways to flash recoveries. Each with specific advantages for specific situations.

That website you tried seems to have borked you all up. Cut your losses with methods from there and start over with the CF Auto Root method. it will work perfectly in 30 seconds.

[Q] Problem with rooting

I have a T-Mobile Galaxy S4 and I tried rooting it using the CF-Auto-Root, but when I open SuperSU, it says "there is SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it." I decided I want to root it all the way but I can't figure this out. How do I root this phone?? Do I have to use the CyanogenMod?? Please help!!

Ok, So my question would be did you use Odin to install CF-Auto-Root? Most I've seen use it and have no problem. Odin installs it then the phone reboots and that's when a special recovery is installed and then loaded and the root process is done. After that stock recovery is again installed. Not positive but I heard there may be other methods named similiar to this that will root phones that have 4.3 and lower.
Make sure you have the version mentioned here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2294005
Also. if you think for some reason that your phone maybe rooted but SuperSU isn't working right you could always go to the Play store and download Chainfire's SuperSU and then install it. If your phone was truly rooted this should fix SuperSU

As far as it goes I think after rooting it with CFroot you should update the SuperSU from the Playstore.

Hello, I was trying to update my note 2 with DN3 kitkat rom today.. But didn't work! :/
I rooted the phone. I got correct root access.
Then followed the instruction to flash the ROM.
After reboot, I could hear the welcome sound(new) and saw the samsung animated logo..then it stuck there. I waited for some 15mins, but nothing happened, only the animated samsung logo.
I saw an issue in TWRP.. saying there was a problem with permission. I don't know what was it. I tried to fix permission, but it failed.
After nothing worked, now I am in the process of recovery from kies.
Perhaps I didn't have the right step by step guide; from rooting the phone to flashing it. :/
If someone could please help, would be great!.. I really want to flash my phone for the DN3 custom rom.
Thanks.
Why do you need to root when flashing custom rom? It is already prerooted. You only need recovery.

As per rooting instruction, it is mentioned that the device must be rooted before flashing a custom rom from stock rom.
While installing the recovery the device is rooted or another way that I tried was to root by CFroot first, which was successfully done then I got the super user access to install a recovery like TWRP,,

[ROOT][LP][UB/LB] 1 Click Root for Xperia ZL Lollipop Locked/Unlocked Bootloader

Hi, i have an Xperia ZL with Locked Bootloader and i tested it and it worked, no need to flash anything, just go in your mobile browser to https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B28tGmPEAKnOeGhkemVTZlAtMk0/view?usp=sharing, download and install the apk and run it, it will do allt he work for you, i have experienced some reboots but some minutes after my phone goes completly stable, it will install a task killer called kingmaster and the root manager called kinguser, you can uninstall kingroot and kingmaster and just need to keep kiguser, super user and super su doesn´t work but with kinguser installed i have completly root acces
UPDATE: In my first post i posted the direct link to download kingroot from its website, but it was downloading different versions and not all of them are working fine, so i uploaded the correcto version to my google drive, it works perfectly, the version 4.0 is in chinese and doesnt work, but version 4.1 is in english and works fine
Can anybody else comment on this ? I've read shady details about kingroot from other threads but some of it may not be up to date.
I think this method doesn't really works, Titanium backup don't get root access by example...
You can indeed get root using this method, but will need to change it to SuperSU before attempting to use Titanium Backup.
I don't recommend it
can I unroot the phone afterward for warranty service?
Why you dont recomed it Oliver?
Dandy, i have been using titanium backup perfectly with this root method, just open king user, revoque the root acces to titanium and open titanium again, it will prompt you for root acces and then it works perfectly
Dlslith, there is no need to change to supersu or super user, i think this cannot be done
Atisho, i dont know a method to unroot Xperia zl on android lollipop, but im interested too, i will be searching and trying

Yes, the Kingroot method does work (you need to have internet access). I have used it to root my Z1, but it is generally considered a "Risky" way to root.
If you need it done fast, it will work. Most people recommend taking the longer process of downgrading to an earlier version, using a root tool that installs SuperSU or Superuser, then installing a recover, and finally installing a pre-rooted version of the ROM you want / need.
The reason that king is considered risky is that part of the root process requires you to have web access and the app sends the phone IMEI number to some unknown IP address in china.
Is that all that Kingroot sends? unknown
What can / do they do with the IMEI? unknown
What else does king user do if the root is sending your IMEI number to china? unknow
Use at own risk. I really was having trouble with my Z1 after I tried to install a rom but it was corrupted and I lost the recovery and root.
I used Kingroot to get root access, then used the root to install a recover, then did a clean install of the full ROM I wanted.
groot to get root access, then used the root to install a recover, then did a clean install of the full ROM I wanted.
Does anyone know which exploit kingroot is using to get root access?
Hi,
I tried to root on Lollipop using Kingroot, It installed root, then I tried to switch the Root Manager App to SuperSU, In doing this I uninstaled KingRoot, KingUser and all other apps and tried to update binaries with SuperSU which obviously failed.
Now the problem is such that - KingUser is installed as a system app and also the su binaries are loaded. When i type su command from the Terminal i get the following error:
[-] connect ui: timer expired.
Unable to root with any known technique
I have also tried to do a system reset but kinguser still persisted.
Is there any way to wipe /system clear and flash a ftf to start from a clean slate and try rooting again.

cant root again some reason

before this KingRoot was the only way to root just for simple things now i cant root with the toolkit it did install Custom Recovery but with SuperSU it just says root undetected so im not sure on what to do here. I can get kingroot to root but then after i close the app i cant even open it again but somehow kingroot is not installed. i know before i had trouble getting root on this thing but wow
can delete thread went back to slimkat rom triied pacrom but didnt have any google apps
