I know this has probably been asked to death, but the suggested results returned nothing...
Did a titanium backup, and a rom manager backup Via clockwork..... But now i cannot decide on which ROM to use!
It also doesnt help that when im reading specs... i have NO idea what 70% of it means, so its hard to base my own decision. So.....
Which ROM do you use? What are its best features? Is it a noticeable difference from Stock to Custom? Are they buggy? I have so many questions, but dont wanna be a bother... So maybe if you could just give me benefits of the one you use, that would be great.
Thank you
So long as you've got your backup, just go ahead and try some of the roms that are out there. If you don't like a particular rom, flash another.
Personally I like the Sense based roms, I have tried others but I keep going back to Sense. I'm currently using InsertCoin which based on a Desire HD rom, small fonts compared to the Desire, but other features including Skins (themes), HTCSense.com phone finder (which doesn't always work).
Are you wanting to try a non Sense based rom? There are plenty out there to play with, MIUI, Cyanogen, Gingerbread roms too.
In this forum, there is a thread which compares all the available ROM's (I'll post the link once I find it)
As @UKseagull mentioned, try different ROM's , You might find a suitable one for you !
Jeeezus ****ing christ. There needs to be a sticky to say that a rom is a rom that YOU, the user must decide on. It is not about what we think, it is about what you think. Your own PERSONAL PREFERENCE!
This is prob the 10th thread this week about that same topic.

Why are you so angry if someone asks a perfectly in place question?!
There are really many roms for the Desire, and I am _sure_ most of them are not stable.
So, if a newbee asks which rom should he try, an experienced flasher could point to the most stable rom. One with Sense, one without. This is very valuable information.
Why should EVERYBODY flash 10 roms before he/she finds a stable one?!
When I was flashing roms on my previous winmo phone, I was ALWAYS responding to such questions to my best knowledge.
And, yes, there are many same threads, because MANY people want to know about this and cannot find ANY info.
So, in short, either answer the man or shut up!

I'm using InsertCoin at the moment which is a ported HD ROM and seems really good. If you want to stick with non HD then LeeDroid is great.

He's angry because it's like the 10th time people ask the same (stupid) question over and over again. In the development part you can find plenty of topics about roms. Some of them are stable, some of the are not, you can read it all in their specific thread. Read, read, read, that's all you have to do here. I'm a noob too and I've been reading like 4 weeks here before I decided to flash a certain rom (leedroid), and it works great.
It's a shame that XDA doesn't have a poll similar to the ZTE - which rom poll over at Modaco, a quick look and you can see which are the most popular roms in use at that point in time. http://android.modaco.com/content/z...omisation/329997/poll-what-rom-are-you-using/
The OP asked a question because they probably value advice from the more experienced rom flashers here , those that are willing to give advice will do so. Yes, rom choice is an individual preference but there's really no need for people to reply with derogatory comments, just ignore the thread and leave it to the others that are willing to help.

Read? Did you not READ where i said that the specs mean NOTHING cause i dont exactly understand what im "Getting" in a rom? Im pretty computer literate, and have only had my desire (or android in general), for maybe 3 weeks. This is all new to me. Ive sim unlocked and rooted thus far without confusion or asking for help.
Its just the specs. Theres so much **** in them that i dont understand that its hard to pick one. Intimidating sorta.
Thanks to all that helped. I think im going to try leedroid. Its sense based, which i like over vanilla from what ive seen.
I come from LeeDroid which is an awesome Sense ROM. Currently though I use Redux which is senseless. What can I say, I like it minimalistic. I also prefer to decide myself what apps should be installed on -my- phone.
I wish Lee came out with a clean AOSP build... Or I figured out how to use his kernel and build my own.
Anyway good luck.

I've been using LeeDroid for several months now with no issues at all. If you check his minisite out, he lists all the apps you can safely remove from the zip prior to flashing without damaging it. That way you are only installing the bare minimum required to run a Sense ROM and you then just add the bits you want.
Personally I only run a Sense ROM because I like the HTC dialer, clock and phonebook over the vanilla Android ones. I use launcher pro which just seems to be snappier than Sense with more customising options.

Mine is almost two months old and I flashed a rom for the first time last week.
Leedroid runs great but as said earlier it all depends on personal preferences, I also installed Launcher Pro cause i like it more compared to the stock dock etc.
Good luck!

Dear Admins
Why locking every new Sense 3.0 ROM thread? (Spare Honeysense 3D)
I am really worried about the spirit of competition for Sense 3.0 development on DHD... Every new Sense 3.0 ROM being posted get locked within a day or so.
This is unhealthy practice and I would think it has dire consequences regarding pushing Sense 3.0 forward on our device.
There must be some other way to settle arguments other than doing it this way in public.
I have no hard-feelings towards any of the Devs involved in this matter, but it is getting way too much now.
I hope we can keep XDA forums a pleasant and civilized place for all Devs (like it is meant to be). After all, it is an open source OS and no one has rights to claim any part of the software spare HTC and Google Devs imho.
Cheers

I think it's because of people using virtuous unity as a base without their permission. There aren't many devs that can port and resize a stock Sensation etc. rom to the DHD, so that's why almost every new Sense 3.0 rom is based on a already existing port. If people made their own roms from scratch it would be ok as it would bring some diversity. Now all new sense 3.0 roms are practically the same as there can't be any huge differences if the devs don't know how to use the m10 tools for example.

Correct me if I am wrong, but don't all MIUI and Cyanogenmod custom ports are based on the original Rom with some tweaks? Why Sense 3 needs to be different...
I never saw an MIUI or Cyanogenmod custom ROM being locked for this reason.
If you have a good base that you can just simply tweak for better performance/custom looks, wouldn't that make devs lives easier and get us more choices to Flash? Of course I cannot expect someone to take a base without mentioning the original dev/team who cooked it and giving them proper credit for their work. But still mentioning them in credits should be enough imho. And still people have the choice to flash whatever they want.
Cheers

My main point is the last sentence in my previous post. There isn't much tweaking you can do as a dev if you don't know how to work with the rom in the first place. If someone wants to modify the looks of a rom they could just release a theme. There's just too little being added to these new roms that someone could be able to call it their own imo and then there's the permission part...

I tried just about every ROM for my inspire and I decided to keep Honey3d.. after trying just about every sense 3.0 ROM, I believe that each one had its own touch. They look very similar but some just had a different style or look. Personally there was a big enough difference between them all to meet everyone's different styles.
If your worried about them all looking the same, take a look at some of the other ROMs out there too. Many of them look close to a bunch of the other ROMs.
Overall I don't really understand the locking on the 3.0 threads. I really hope I get to keep using Honey3D.. I don't really want to change to anything else

hi to everyone,
i'm not new to XDA (i'm nexus s user), but i'm new to desire section
my friend need to upgrade his desire to gingerbread 2.3, possibly with Sense UI
like you know, this is possible only with a custom ROM. so the question is:
Which ROM (possibly with Sense) is the best today (11-04-12) ???
imho best is:
1-stable
2-without bugs
3-fast
thanks

The reason you are getting all these insults is because you say that you are not new to xda yet you act like you are. It's not that you posted on the wrong section, it's because you asked a very common question that could have been answered by you doing a search query.
Or you could just say in one sentence which you think is the best sense rom. Jeezzz i dont understand why you take the effort to complain but cant answer a simple question.
In my opinion, cooldroid v3 is the best sense rom for the htc desire. Its a sens 2.1 based rom, which makes it very fast
yes, specify what stable mean perhaps is too much, but the main reason because i ask you is that with google and search function i've found only old information ......
if my previous question make your brain loop, just tell me which ROM are you using ..... ok ?

your question it's like "what's the best color?", we can't answer this, just try some roms and find it urself, in my opinion, all sense roms are stable, 3.5 doesn't match too fine as we want, but's usable anyway... ginger + 2.1 it's more fastest but idk...

development is still pretty active, despite the desire being the best part of 2 years old, so many of the roms there fulfill all your requirements, therefore in your honest opinion, nearly all are the best
even if you get many more replies from other users about what ROM they are using, it's only from users who can be bothered to post here, whereas most post in the rom threads themselves. experiences are often conflicting. one user's experience (AMAZING) with a rom can be completely different (LAGGGGGYYYY BUGGGYYYY) from another, which will only confuse you further. why? many combinations of apps/sync/launcher/kernel/hardware. most importantly, we all use the phone differently...
and in the time that it takes for people to post here and argue over which is AWESOME ROCK SOLID STABLE, NO BUGS, SOOO FAST and DEFINITELY THE BEST ROM EVER!!!!!11 you could have formed your own opinion by reading a snapshot of the threads, even install a couple and try them out, which is definitely the 'best' way of discovery.
which hopefully gives some further insight as to why best rom threads are pretty pointless...
there is no best ROM, only the best ROM for your needs (or your friend's needs in this case)
good luck, i hope you find will the best one, i'm still looking
Thanks. Soon I'll flash one off them and tell you which....

yeah cause I had tons of overheating, and resets with the other roms, especially when on 3G, or GPS... which was annoying... as for this one, I'm absolutely satisfied with
no overheating
good CPU clock
nice apps
lots of room on internal storage
those are perfect values for me, though someone else may have a different opinion
as for the minor buggs
it auto dials +1 in dialer (that's the one I've seen so far)
but You just get a new dialer from the market and problem solved
Sandvolds ICS 0.6.
IMO this is best for me.

For me it's Sandvold's ICS for Desire.
It has great support and works like a charm for the most part.
It has one or two major and some minor issues but that is to be expected it is still a beta mind you.
Overall its the best rom for my tastes. Its still under development and updates are released as much as twice a week. The development team and specifically Sandvold is always on the case solving issues and helping where he can.
From a User point of View which is the Best Rom for the HTC M8. The Rom that brings out the best out of the HTC M8.
The rom that brings out the best out of your HTC is the rom you like the best and suits all your needs.
These type of questions leads many times to inappropriate discussions between people who think one rom is better than the other.
My point of view : there is no "best" rom ...... it will never exist. If you want your "best" rom i would suggest to try some for a couple of days eachs and check out what you like about it.
Cheers.

Which Rom Works Best For you?
Android is a unique platform allowing users to modify roms, applications etc to the users needs, the best rom is indeed as mentioned above is all dependent on the user and therefore your best rom is the best rom for you and you only

I used to be a rom whore, I've calmed down lately. Your best thing to do is to check the different forums for what the different custom rom offers and feedback from the users, I'm using leedroid right now for the sense 7 features

Which is as relevant as my choice of ROM.
You choose what you like nicholas. If i say jump off a bridge because i like it you do it too ? Please take this as good advice :
Read the threads of the different roms and check what you might like, then try them. I think this is a lazy way out of getting input on the most popular rom.
Make up your own mind and flash away !
Enjoy.
Thanks Guys
Hey guys so I've been doing a bit of research on the differences between many of the popular ROMs available but there doesn't seem to be much discussion on the most recent versions which are based off Android 6.0 MarshMallow.
So I ask that all of you that have used Android Revolution HD 20.0, ViperOneM9 4.3.0, LeeDroid V8.0.0, MaximusHD 7.1.0 or/and CyanogenMod 13 please vote in the poll BUT also provide your reasoning in replies. I'm not looking for the most popular ROM but the best ROM in terms of performance, battery life, stability, tweaks and customization, optimization. Please don't use the look of the ROM as a factor in voting since that is merely opinion.
So yea vote and reply guys, looking forward to seeing what people think about the different ROMs.
Rom comparison threads are generally frowned upon around here, and the answer will vary for everyone. Why not just try them all and see for yourself?

Compromise in terms of what exactly? I've seen people say that ARHD is one of the better performing ROMs but isn't ViperOne's added tweaks worth being a bit lower performing.
