Just curious as to whether the s-pen will still work with CM11 installed. I don't mind losing the features, I just want to know if it'll still work. I love the note 2, but hate the bloatware and touchwiz in general. Thanks!
Yes.
There is an app in the play store for the spen with cm11

You will need three applications - CM S Pen Add-on(ROOT), Note Buddy (S Pen Helper), and whatever application you want to use for note-taking. I was using Papyrus when I had CM11 installed.

Or will they still work in nova launcher? (obviously still on a Sammy rom, not aosp)
Thanks
You obviously still can use all the features with another launcher, you just have to use stock apps (video player, email, gallery, dialer ... etc)
To make use of spen features, you only need those tw frameworks. You may use spen features on any launcher provided you have those frameworks.
And as you said,it will work on Sammy based roms only.It won't work on AOSP,AOKP roms as they lack tw frameworks.....

As others have mentioned before, you can use any launcher.
But for the S-Pen functionality, you need to use the stock apps provided by Samsung.
You "might" lose out on some of the functionality, if you change the launcher. This is just my guess.

I just thought of quick command, I think it only works on TW's home screens and app drawer.
Thanks, to be honest I doubt I'll use the s pen too much anyway, just want the big screen - I find my s3 too small!
So it means no SPen apps on custom roms??? I love changing my roms. Its kind of a deal breaker for me.

It will work on TW-based custom roms but on AOSP/AOKP it will behave just like your finger, no pressure sensitivity and such.

wait so pressure sensitivity only works with default apps? so it wont work with any drawing apps from the market?

For apps that support pressure sensitivity it will work just fine (take a look at the note 10.1 forum for some examples), but I THINK you still need to be on a TW based rom. I'm not sure though, too bad I no longer have my Note 1 to check it.
i ordinarily flash straight to pure aosp from whatever manufacturer paint job the phone comes with (sense, touchwiz, blur), but after watching the hands on video i may actually stay stock with the note 2, my only reason for switching from stock on my gs3 was ICS/big red not pushing out JB, but the s-pen functions look so good.

Hi Everyone,
Quick question...
I am planning to install CyanogenMod 10.1 on my Note 2 (international version)
Would Cyanogen support the S-Pen?
Would Cyanogen support S-Note (its by far the most exhaustive note taking app).
Thanks,
Mayank

CM will not support S Note as that requires touchwiz framework. As for S Pen, I guess you'd be able to use it like you normally do, but don't expect any size pen related functions that you see on touchwiz ROMs like quick command or air view

Thanks for replying @xcly
If that's the case, then what's the best way to get root, get a custom rom but still retain Samsung's improvements?
Cheers!

Easiest way will probably be cf auto root. Alternatively flash Cwm using odin and flash superuser zip file in recovery and you're done.
As for ROMs, I suggest you stick to stock based ROMs if you wish to retain Samsung functions. As far as I know there wasn't a aosp look Sammy rom but I may be wrong. Try the all in one index in the development threads

Actually for quick command I use GMD Spen Control. It has even more options than the one Samsung has built into touchwiz.

I've been using TW roms from the day i got my note 2 and love TW exclusive apps except bloatware(chaton and all those). But now i am planning to give 10.2 a try..So i'll be definitely losing all those apps..what do you guys suggest alternative for S-Note and S-Voice?
I just used papyrus for notes, other tha n that never used s voice, so don't know about that.

[Q] Vanilla ROM
Hey guys,
Reacntly I started seeing some ROMs here, but they are all TouchWiz ones /:
Now I know that there isn't a lot of developers for this device, but i'm still wondering if anyone (maybe Cyanogenmod team) working on a Vanilla ROM.
Does anyone have any idea?
I hope so don't need all the touchwiz rubish just a nice slim rom hopefully being able to free up some more storage to save apps. Come on guys there must be someone smart enough to port vanilla
Donate to m3d0g in developing Roms thread. This way he can purchase the device and build Roms for it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't a non-Touchwiz ROM make the S Pen absolutely useless?

it's only the proprietary s-pen stuff you won't have access to. pen support is supposed to be built in to (i believe) ics and above.
pen works
there is a program that is in beta in the Play Store that is supposed to work real well. Also CM S pen may do what you are asking.
I'm finally getting my Galaxy Note 8.0, should be coming tomorrow, and I had a last minute question.
I understand that installing CM 11 removes all S-pen functionality, but that you can get a good bit back with the CM S Pen Add-on app and Note Buddy app. I was wondering how the S-pen experience is with that compared to with TouchWiz? If anyone knows. It would help me decide if I'm going to flash CM 11 or CivZ on the tablet.
Thank you.
I'm on the official Omni nightly and S Pen works great out of the box, so it might work on CM as well. Also read in another thread that it works on CM, there was no mention of additional apps to make it work

Awesome, thanks for the info! I'll have to check out Omni and see what's up, and maybe I'll switch to it!
GMD S pen control root in the play store works great and I also use papyrus as the note pad. I'm on beanstalk 4.4.2.
