This will update your software to LI3.
The update contains firmware updates as well as a Kernel update too.
The update contains a file that will reflash the stock recovery every single time you reboot your phone if the digital signature doesn't match, but I have removed it from this rooted version I'm uploading. I will upload that file separately so that you can get the stock recovery back without worrying about Odin, then from there you should be able to apply the update manually from Sprint's servers and get updated firmware. Keep in mind that if you choose to accept the OTA from Sprint, it will only apply if you have unmodified system files and an unmodified kernel.
You should only do one or the other. If you flash this rooted update, you will no longer receive an update notification from Sprint. So you will need to either revert to a nandroid backup or reflash the stock software in order to update all of the firmware.

Stock Recovery to flash in Odin: (Don't rename it.)
Stock Recovery
If you download the Stock Recovery to flash in Odin, open Odin, press PDA and point to this file. It will flash only the stock recovery, allowing you to accept the OTA and update your firmware. This method will only work if you have a Stock kernel and unmodified system files.
Sweet thanks! Do you know what the update changed or included? Anything good
Sent from my S3
I'm still confused as to which of the two I should do. If I read that correctly it seems that anytime we want to do a firmware update we have to use the stock recovery instead of CWM?

well at least this way you can get google wallet updates and not have to keep using an outdated and potentially insecure hacked wallet apk

The firmware is, but with HTC phone, if you do an OTA, they 7/10 times have a new, locked hboot, which makes taking an OTA a SERIOUS problem. With unlocked bootloaders [like our GSIII], you basically just need the stock recovery, then re-root.
And the unrooting option available will reset your flash counter.

They'll be cooked into ROMs here too, I was just talking about attempting to install an OTA update via the official method (Settings > Updates). It will download the update and reboot to recovery and install it. If it's not the stock recovery it won't work.

Basically it will happen in 2 ways [overall, not listing full details]:
1- flash the rooted rom with the update > then flash all additional rooted update zips / odin packages
2- unroot > flash stock recovery [resets flash counter] > apply ota > re-root

There's only two ways to update:
1) While using a stock rom, with stock and odexed everything, simply wait for Sprint to push the update to your phone.
2) If deodexed, modified, or on a custom rom, wait for the developers to make flash-able updates.
You can not have root customizations and Sprint pure updates together. Besides, returning to stock from a custom rom to receive Sprint's update? You're usually giving up more than you're gaining.
Okay, it's up in the OP!
As for which one you should do? Basically it's like this:
-If you don't care about updated firmware or you want to wait for me (or someone) to make the firmware flashable in Odin, then download and install this one.
-If you want to fully updated, firmware and all, then you should probably download the other file I'm about to add to the OP, which will install the stock recovery, so that you can download the OTA yourself on your phone and it will install.

Now I don't have a problem waiting for you or someone to make the updates flashable, then also I wouldn't mind doing the OTA myself in which case I see that I'll add teh stock recovery which means I can't ever flash anything right? i mean it's not a custom recovery so i'm screwed? I hope i'm making sense here haha

What you would do it flash the stock recovery [needed to take the OTA] > then just flash the cwm recovery and the the root zip.

ahh perfect. and i'm assuming these would be uploaded by the OP sometime soon, and just keep them saved for when they need to get used
I'm dumb. Getting the phone tomorrow. If I take the update from Sprint, can I root and install recovery after? Sorry if some of you are laughing right now.

There's no need to go to degrade yourself when asking a question. And yes, if you take the ota, you'll still be able to flash cwm recovery using odin, then flash the root zip in recovery and be all set.
I just want to know if i its possible to flash 4.2.2 rom official over custom rom 4.1.2 via odin? And what will be the process. Thank you.

Yes, it's possible. Just flash through ODIN. And after flash, reboot into stock recovery and wipe data or else you will get a bootloop.

Yes, its possible to rollback to previous version. Download the previous version of Stock ROM from sammobile and flash this ROM via Odin v3.07 then it will roll back to the previous version..

No way to rollback into previous version, as no vendor supports downgrading . If u need your old software, just download Original stock firmware (definitely some older version :silly and reflash it with Odin as @Parth2187 mentioned:cyclops:
This is what I did. I had a nand bqckup of my 4.1.2 stock rooted rom.
1. Flashed 4.1.2 stock via Odin.
2. Root3d and flashed CWM recovery.
3. Once in recovery rolled back my original nand.
Please note if u end up in a boot loop. Make aure u go to stock recovery and do data/factory reset and wipe cache and u r good to go.
Hope helps. Worked foe me.

If you root your phone, you won't be able to receive OTA updates and it will void your warranty. If you unroot you can get the OTA updates.
To root see this thread

I don't think a factory reset can unroot a device. I am not pretty sure about this, if u are successful in that, its okay. But factory reset just formats the internal SD card. It wont do anything with /Root directory. When you are rooting a phone, we flash SU to the /root directory.. Then how come a factory reset can unroot a device. Probably impossible! Correct me if i am wrong

+1...factory reset does not unroot...........flashing stock rom through odin and using traingle away ( not in that order ) would unroot the device..we are priviledged that our device has all prequisites for rooting and unrooting...

Did you flash the entire file? There are usually two. The full rom and then updates to the rom. I would check in his thread to see what happened.
Also clearing the cache can help with the boot process

I did everything, but the problem begins when I install the updates.
If I only install v5, my note doesn't reboot by itself.
Gotta ask what was your process for flashing 5.0 did you wipe x3 and format data x3 that is what I normally do Im playing with mods right now but have been running 5.0.3 for a couple of days with no reboots actually never got any reboots while on DomPop
What Baseband and Modem are you running download the systeminfo app from playstore and it should tell you if you are unsure.

As I have understood, you can only update the baseband and bootloader through ota. I Flashed the rom twice, the first time only the system was updated but no the baseband, the second did the modification of odin and everything went perfect.

Download Odin v3.10.6 from this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2711451, unzip and search for the odin3.ini file, open it and modify this two lines:
PhoneEFSClear=0
PhoneBootUpdate=0k
Change the first from 0 to 1 if you want to do a factory reset when you install the rom
Change the second one from OK to 1 to Odin update the baseband and bootloader automatically. After that open Odin, connect your note on download mode and install the rom.

You don't need to root stock rom. Download openrecovery-twrp-2.8.0.1-hltetmo-4.4.zip from Google and install via Odin, after that you only have to reboot into the twrp recovery and install the DomPop rom.
This rom comes rooted.

Hi all,
Is there a way to return to stock rom but with TWRP still intact?
The only way I've read of getting back to stock is by flashing using the flashtool, but surely this would overwrite twrp?
