i attempted to root my gs3 4 times using the method on xda, superuser icon displays but force closes incessantly and root checker confirms i wasnt successful, it must be the kitkat update because im following the instructions to the letter, any ideas on a working root method for kitkat ?

You are on the right track. Once you root supersu icon should appear (if using cfsu). Then go to your app drawer and drag supersu to top corner to disable. Open any file explorer app and goto /system/data/apps and find superuser.apk and double click. Install. Open supersu and install binary. Reboot and you are golden, should be rooted.

Flash another rooting zip. Search for Universal Root. Or root using the Update.zip provided in the sticky. But unroot first.
Try this - root via cwm http://db.tt/I8oMJQRA
For unrooting - http://db.tt/UWiLeTen

Reflash your ROM.
this method works on me..
Unroot > turn phone on, wait till boot complete > reboot to recovery (stock) > root again
Mine did that not long ago. I downloaded SuperSU from the Play Store and used that for while

Hey guys, so before I got the OTA update to 4.3, my Gnex was rooted with stock recovery and stock rom. So now when I got the OTA update, my phone still has the SuperSU app installed but has lost root. Now I want to uninstall SU from my device. Is it possible to do this by going into Root Explorer, then deleting the "su" file in the 'xbin' folder, and then deleting the "Superuser.apk" file in the "apps" folder? Oh, and BTW, ever since I updated, my phone doesn't let me install apk files. I downloaded the Hovering Controls app on the XDA thread and when I click on the file, the package installer opens up. However, it doesn't register a press on the install button on the bottom right corner. I have tried this with a number of apk files but they don't work. Does anyone know a solution?
Thanks
if you dont have root, how do you expect to delete something out of xbin?
Thanks for the reply. So what would you recommend to remove super su from my device?

Go into the Superuser app settings and scroll down to find Full Unroot. See if that does the trick.

Unfortunately, I can't even go into the SuperSU app because it says that "There is no SU binary installed and SuperSU cannot install it."
I installed the update with Odin now I'm not rooted so I installed CF Auto Root with Oden but the Knox is telling me it stop it and I get a message that super user stopped. How do I kill Knox what is its purpose? It needs to go how can I remove or disabled it

Never mind I rebooted the phone and super user updated it's self after that every thing started asking for SU permission. I immediately went in to root explorer and deleted the Knox then I flashed ClockworkMod recovery from rom manager. Now I have the Tmobile 4.3 rooted with custom recovery waiting for some custom roms : )

I'll try this when I get home. Do you flash twrp via Odin as well? Seems goo manager doesn't really want to install twrp anymore.

TWRP provides a .tar file so you can Odin. Its not much more trouble, and it works.

So it seems the method you said didnt work for me .
I used CF auto root on odin 3.09, i got the cf auto root from here http://download.chainfire.eu/280/CF...uto-Root-t0lteatt-t0lteatt-samsungsghi317.zip
i was unable to flash TWRP through the TAR they supplied on their website and goomanager still doesnt seem to want to start the download.
Everytime after i CF auto root as soon i get to the home screen supersu sends a message that "unfortunately, supersu has stopped" without me even clicking on it or performing an action.
do you happen o have any other suggestions or links of where you got your cf auto root.

You used from pc? Because if I remember well when I rooted my wife's tablet with this I used it from pc and it didn't install anything at device except supersu and the root was successful, 4.4.2 fw version.
The name of this pc application was android_root.exe and I had download it from:
