[Q] 4.3 Problems After Update - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hey guys, so before I got the OTA update to 4.3, my Gnex was rooted with stock recovery and stock rom. So now when I got the OTA update, my phone still has the SuperSU app installed but has lost root. Now I want to uninstall SU from my device. Is it possible to do this by going into Root Explorer, then deleting the "su" file in the 'xbin' folder, and then deleting the "Superuser.apk" file in the "apps" folder? Oh, and BTW, ever since I updated, my phone doesn't let me install apk files. I downloaded the Hovering Controls app on the XDA thread and when I click on the file, the package installer opens up. However, it doesn't register a press on the install button on the bottom right corner. I have tried this with a number of apk files but they don't work. Does anyone know a solution?
Thanks

if you dont have root, how do you expect to delete something out of xbin?

Thanks for the reply. So what would you recommend to remove super su from my device?

Go into the Superuser app settings and scroll down to find Full Unroot. See if that does the trick.

Unfortunately, I can't even go into the SuperSU app because it says that "There is no SU binary installed and SuperSU cannot install it."

No root acess after installing superuser

So I followed this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1514434 and installed superuser and then rebooted my phone. I tried using titanium backup and it says it doesn't have root access. I tried other apps that needed root access and they all said the same. If I have superuser installed, shouldn't I be rooted. What did I do wrong?
You install busy box?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Yeah I did, it says, "BusyBox Installer was not allowed root access!"
Try using the stickied (sticky'd?) root guide. It has version 3.0.5 of superuser. I had to use this version and then update via the superuser app.
Wipe cache and dalvik and then flash su

I would just Odin the stock ROM and start all over at this point if I was you. You may have trashed up the system at this point trying to do other stuff.

Alright I figured out my problem. The posted superuser zip was for android 1.6 devices. I found the correct zip and root works. Thanks guys!

Superuser issue on JB

Everytime i take a screenshot the superuser box comes up and says "shell has been granted superuser" and it keeps coming up about every 5sec till i reset.
anyone else getting this?
I am getting it too.
Phone: GSM Galaxy Nexus ROM: Jellybean 4.1 JRN84D - v2 (6/29/12) Kernel: Franco's r210 Recovery: ClockworkMod Recovery Launcher: TouchWiz Additions: none...yet
-----------thanks!
Does it specifically say what shell has been granted permissions? I've never experienced this. Nothing should be granted SU permissions when taking a screenshot (power + volume down) due to the fact that it is intrinsic to ICS (&JB for that matter).
it says super user permissions and its in my log about 50 times in 3min

How do I upgrade ? Do I install SH and then uninstall superuser in that order?
The SH app says not to have both

Ok so after doing some research I figured out how to upgrade to supersu.
Question though. I removed superuser.apk from the system/app folder with root explore but the icon is still in the app drawer and I can still launch it. How do I get rid of it completely?

[Q] Lost root with 4.1.2 update, how can I re-root?

I lost root with the 4.1.2 update and I'd like to get it back. I went a little crazy with all the Gameloft deals and ended up with about 16 gigs worth of games, so I had to root to be able to use Titanium Backup to store everything on my SD card. I was running the stock ROM just rooted and didn't uninstall or change anything. I can't find anything else about how to gain root after the update that doesn't require flashing anything. Is there a one click option for me?
1. Download the apk from this thread and install it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2050297
2. Hit "Root Device"
3. Profit

Well, that was easy.
Thanks!
A Freakin' Amazing!
I also lost root during my AT&T 4.1.2 update, tried re-rooting via Odin, did 3 softbricks & resets & basically had given up on root. Then I stumbled upon this method, tried it & can't believe that anyone would rather root via Odin. Thank you so much!!!!!!!
I want \ need to root my note, is this the preferred method?

If all you do is root your stock ROM, then no; the only change is that you will have superuser access and have the ability to remove whichever bloat apps you wish. If you flash a different modified stock ROM, then the OP from which you download the ROM should tell you what apps have been removed; although as long as you go with the modified stock ROMs, you will still have S Beam, NFC, etc.

Are you running the original stock rom on your M919 Galaxy S4 phone?
If you are using the original stock rom M919UVUAMDB firmware then follow the instructions below.
Here is how to root your phone
Download Motochopper here: Motochopper
Extract the contents of the motochopper.zip file into a new folder on your windows desktop.
Make sure USB Debugging mode is enabled on your phone.
Connect your phone to your PC computer with the usb cable.
Navigate to the new folder you have made and double click the "run.bat".
Approve the ADB connection from your computer on your phone.
If all goes well and you see no errors this will root your phone and flash superuser.
NOTE: goomanager will not work if you are NOT rooted.
Once you do this successfully the next step is to flash a recovery so go to the google playstore and install the free app called goomanager.
After its installed open the app and click the menu key then select "Install OpenRecoveryScript" and wait until it gets done flashing.
Then in goomanager select the "reboot recovery" option and it should boot into TWRP Touch recovery.
Good luck!

[Q] Lost root

Ok so the story goes like this:
I have stockorama V2
Stock kernel
I was trying to install busybox with busybox installer from the play store, but it said I didn't have root access
So I went to superSU and did the uninstall from the app itself
Rebooted, installed superSU from play store, it told me to update su binary. Then it failed.
when I try to open SuperSU it says that "I don't have su binary... ...that's a problem" and then closes the app
I think I lost root, but I was wondering is there anyway to get it back without a PC.
I still got twrp recovery so I can still flash stuff

You can flash SuperSU via recovery using the link in my signature. Stockorama includes busybox. Don't install it.

That's weird.
You did flash in recovery correct? Cwm or twrp? What version?
Not sure if its any different than Aerowinders, but you can try SuperSU linked in my sig. Or use Superuser, you should find both there.

Flash it in twrp 2.5 I think, did it 2 times... same thing
Its weird because I still get a toast (when I bootup) that lightflow gets superuser permisions; but when I open Titaniumbkp it gets stuck on a message "asking for root rights"
Btw superSU is as a system app so I can't uninstall before flashing the supersu.zip you guys gave me.

My zip came directly from Chainfire's website, I just changed the name.
You don't uninstall, just flash over the old one. And wipe the data for it also.

Nothing... I get the same message.
Flashed zip in twrp, wiped cache and dalvik, fix permissions, reboot.
Open supersu, and get the same message
I'm juat thinking reflash the rom the thing is I wanted to backup app+data with Titanium but no root. So any suggestion to a backup app that backups data without root...

Well, make a nandroid backup just in case. I dont suggest using it as it may just bring back the problem. But you will at least have everything backed up if you need it later.
Aside from that, you can use the recoveries built in file manager. Also you could boot into recovery and then try to ADB pull what ever you need.
But I would reflash your rom. You only need to wipe dalvik if it is the same rom you are using now. But if that doesnt fix it you will need to do a factory reset at that point.
