If all you do is root your stock ROM, then no; the only change is that you will have superuser access and have the ability to remove whichever bloat apps you wish. If you flash a different modified stock ROM, then the OP from which you download the ROM should tell you what apps have been removed; although as long as you go with the modified stock ROMs, you will still have S Beam, NFC, etc.

Are you running the original stock rom on your M919 Galaxy S4 phone?
If you are using the original stock rom M919UVUAMDB firmware then follow the instructions below.
Here is how to root your phone
Download Motochopper here: Motochopper
Extract the contents of the motochopper.zip file into a new folder on your windows desktop.
Make sure USB Debugging mode is enabled on your phone.
Connect your phone to your PC computer with the usb cable.
Navigate to the new folder you have made and double click the "run.bat".
Approve the ADB connection from your computer on your phone.
If all goes well and you see no errors this will root your phone and flash superuser.
NOTE: goomanager will not work if you are NOT rooted.
Once you do this successfully the next step is to flash a recovery so go to the google playstore and install the free app called goomanager.
After its installed open the app and click the menu key then select "Install OpenRecoveryScript" and wait until it gets done flashing.
Then in goomanager select the "reboot recovery" option and it should boot into TWRP Touch recovery.
Good luck!

Root without a computer?

I know it's possible to root *some* phones without a computer. Does anyone know if it's possible with the Hercules?
No! You need a computer
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
Wow...... well I guess that answers that one.
lol
Thanks
I think you can not root without a computer (because of all the ODIN stuff), but I guess ROMs can be installed using ROM manager. But using clockworkmod recovery seems easier.
You can't root without PC. Odin is the only way, my adhd girl can do this!

trolling?? or... just plain... nevermind
Rooting without a computer is the DUMBEST idea in the entire world. IF you screw up your phone, like most n00bs these days do, you will have NO WAY to recover your device without sending it in... not to mention no way to read XDA to discover what went wrong.

No need to install CWM from PC.
For this method you have to download 2 files (CWM.zip & SU-Busybox-Installer.zip) to you phone and you are ready to go.

This is to give root access, but to gain the abilty to flash SU to gain root access, you need ODIN and a PC. On the T989, it the only way to flash CWM. To summarize, SU is the saddle, but whats really important is the horse, CWM

Yeah thats right, even you can get a horse without PC. There is app called mobile odin which makes this possible. You can flash firmware with cwm using that, mobile odin requires rooted phone, which we did using prev posts.
I have su access with cwm installed on my phone without imcrease in flash counter and yellow exclaimation at boot.
I am planning to install good rom on this. Once I do it successfully I will try to put small tut on it.

Isn't half the point of the ROM Manager app to install a custom recovery? If you have root access, you can flash CWM through it. It's literally the first action listed when you open it.

I just realized that you won't be able to remove those files without root. You should first check whether you have the files or not. If you don't, then I'm not sure what's going on.
If you do, you need to uncheck the box in Odin to reboot your phone when you flash the custom recovery. When the Odin flash is done, pull the battery, put it back in, then boot into recovery by holding Vol Up, Home, and Power until you see the little blue text. That should get you into custom recovery. From there you can flash su and Superuser.
At this point you have a choice. You can reboot, but it will replace your recovery with stock. You'll still have root though. You'll need to remove the files and reflash a custom root either with Odin, the dd method, or using ROM Manager or GooManager.
The other choice is to use adb while you're booted into the custom recovery and remove the files before you reboot.

Did you try to root with the toolkit then you install a custom recovery and finally you install busy box. Still with the toolkit

NVM you dont have root i misread your post....You could use odin to flash lg1 with root injected and then use rootkeeper app to preserve root then take the update to lh9 thats what i did. Gunnyman wrote a post about it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1895100

If you do flash LG1, be sure to do a factory reset in recovery before you boot to LG1 or you'll get errors from android.process.acore. If you do this with stock recovery, you'll lose all the picture, sound, and video files you have on the internal storage.

[How To]Root Sprint GB27 Jellybean

Now that we have the latest official release for the new TouchWiz GB27 4.1.2, I figured I would update this thread for those that have downloaded the update from FL24 to GB27 via Kies.
This guide was written for Sprint devices however the procedure is the same for Boost and Virgin variants of the Galaxy S2 Epic 4G Touch. The only difference is the kernel you flash after rooting.
You WILL need to use a PC in order to gain root access
DISCLAIMER
DO NOT USE AGAT RECOVERY TO FLASH ANY AOSP ROM. THERE HAVE BEEN CASES OF HARD BRICKS.
I WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANYTHING THAT YOU CHOOSE TO DO WITH YOUR DEVICE. THESE METHODS HAVE BEEN TESTED AND ARE PROVEN TO WORK. FAILURE TO FOLLOW DIRECTIONS MAY GIVE YOU UNEXPECTED RESULTS.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
How to root with SuperSU
You will need...
Odin3_v3.04
Source built Jelly Bean kernel
SuperSU-v0.97
Stock GB27 kernel zip - optional
SuperSU from the Play Store
1. Using a Windows XP or greater based computer, download and extract Odin to a directory which you are comfortable using. You can extract to your desktop if you want. I personally use my documents folder.
2. Power off then press and hold volume down and power to enter download mode, plug in your USB cable after opening Odin. Click on PDA to select and flash the source built kernel.
3. Download this file and reboot to recovery by pressing and holding volume up and power then flash SuperSU-v0.97.zip
4. After flashing the SuperSU zip, flash the GB27 stock kernel and reboot. This is now optional, the source built kernel works perfectly and can be used as a DD.
5. Download SuperSU from the Play Store.
6. Open the SuperSU app and update the binary.
This method WILL trigger the yellow triangle and increase your flash counter by 1 count.

How to root with Superuser and busybox - similar to garwynn's one click
You will need...
Odin3_v3.04
Source built Jelly Bean kernel
subusybox
Stock GB27 kernel zip - optional
3. Flash the subusybox zip in recovery
4. Flash the stock GB27 kernel in recovery and reboot. This is now optional, the source built kernel works perfectly and can be used as a DD.
This method WILL trigger the yellow triangle and increase your flash counter by 1 count.

One-Click Method
You will need...
GB27 Rooted Nodata
1. Download the Rooted Nodata from the link above.
2. Using a Windows XP or greater computer, open the One-Click package.
3. Power down your phone and then press and hold volume down + power to enter download mode. Plug in your USB cable.
4. Click start.
This method WILL NOT trigger the yellow triangle or increase your flash counter.
You now have root access. Congratulations.
Do you have an ugly yellow triangle after performing one of the first two methods? Do you want to get rid of that and reset your flash counter back to 0?
Chainfire has an app for that!
TriangleAway v2.90 XDA Version
Please consider donating for his work and buy Triangle Away from the Play Store.

After rooting the device, did you install a custom recovery? you can download goo manager in the play store and install TWRP recovery and reboot to it. If you already have the recovery installed and cant boot to the recovery then use adb to reboot it. Or another way is download terminal emulator and reboot using command lines from you for...only if you have root.
are you on stock or non stock recovery .. And to get into download mode . As far as i know from a off state hold down vol down and power button . to get into down load mode and its vol up to recovery ..

Negative, only stuff I installed after the root was superSU and titanium backup.. both of the paid versions. .. When I power up holding vol+ Home Power instead of any upload option I just get the following
Reboot sys now
Apply update from ADB
Apply update from external storage
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Apply update from cache
Tried wipe data/factory reset to clear the root mod (multi-csc), but basically just wiped my phone of everything else except the root, lol, so at that point I figured I should ask for help..

Will do, so should I download roms to my desktop and transfer them using Kies, or is it better to download directly to the phone. .. just looking for advice..

Soft brick on every reboot?

Have some quick questions.
I rooted my phone using this method:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlVCjtRUrgs&feature=youtube_gdata_player
After I root, I try to open Supersu but it says the binarys cannot be installed and it closes, also the "root access allow" prompt does not appear on any root applications.
They just get stuck at "searching for root rights."
Is there a preferred root method to use on this S4?
Which one works best?
Well anyway, I flashed wicked rom (because the phone IS rooted) and whenever I try to flash anything or merely even just a reboot, my phone soft bricks and I have to boot TWRP, wipe and install the rom again.
I only have this problem AFTER I have installed a custom rom.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

This is one of the reasons I went back to stock after trying out cm10.1 and 4.3 leak. I am kinda liking the features TW adds to Android. Just disable the apps you don't use or root stock and use TB to uninstall what you don't need.

Thank you sir for the reply.
I indeed found the problem.
It was the root method I was using.
I did the CF-AUTOROOT method and it canceled out all previous problems.

Thanks for the late reply.
I used the cable that came with the phone.
I've also used other cables for various other Odin flashes and all works as it should.
Pretty sure that's not a factor, and far from a problem.
