need help flashing su - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

i went back to stock for lh9, and i read somewhere that u can root any build with the toolkit and so i tried using that way to root my phone, and it supposedly flashed cwm onto my phone, but when i boot into recovery to flash su, its like a different one, guessin the stock recovery because theres no option for install from zip help anyone??

Maybe this post will help:

I just realized that you won't be able to remove those files without root. You should first check whether you have the files or not. If you don't, then I'm not sure what's going on.
If you do, you need to uncheck the box in Odin to reboot your phone when you flash the custom recovery. When the Odin flash is done, pull the battery, put it back in, then boot into recovery by holding Vol Up, Home, and Power until you see the little blue text. That should get you into custom recovery. From there you can flash su and Superuser.
At this point you have a choice. You can reboot, but it will replace your recovery with stock. You'll still have root though. You'll need to remove the files and reflash a custom root either with Odin, the dd method, or using ROM Manager or GooManager.
The other choice is to use adb while you're booted into the custom recovery and remove the files before you reboot.

Did you try to root with the toolkit then you install a custom recovery and finally you install busy box. Still with the toolkit

I did use tool kit to root guess ill try unchecking the box to reboot after odin I dont think it worked though. Is su supposed to work if i download it from the app store after I try the root through toolkit? Or does it have to be flashed into it

Did you look to see if your phone has the files I mentioned?
You can't just install su from the app store.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2

Yeah just download it but be sure that it is not already on your phone. Superuser or supersu

You can install the app, but it won't be able to install the su command unless the phone is already rooted.

NVM you dont have root i misread your post....You could use odin to flash lg1 with root injected and then use rootkeeper app to preserve root then take the update to lh9 thats what i did. Gunnyman wrote a post about it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1895100

If you do flash LG1, be sure to do a factory reset in recovery before you boot to LG1 or you'll get errors from android.process.acore. If you do this with stock recovery, you'll lose all the picture, sound, and video files you have on the internal storage.

I put together a more detailed set of instructions for rooting LH9. See this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32218479&postcount=158

no im not rooted, the toolkit didnt work, and i dont know how the check for the files with out being rooted; ill try gunny's method later tonight and see if that works, have to drive 5 hours right now but ill definately give it a go when i get home. thanks for all you help guys.
and just curious if anyone else has had this same issue? is it the update that did this?

Easiest method to root?

Reason why I ask is because, for any internet access to the internet on my computer I will be using hotspot on the phone I'm rooting.

P.s. I have the T-Mobile version if it matters.

This is what I did... go to the guide in general and look for how to root
Then download odin and recovery (whichever u prefer) then download In Developement Darkside data wipe and download any rom you want that has root.
1. Open odin
2. Put ur phone in DL mode (power+vol up and down+plug in usb)
Then place the recovery in the PDA slot
3. Then start
Then in CWM go flash the Darkside datawipe (it'll take a lil while)
Then flash your desired rom then reboot

If not... then it'll give you an option in the guid if you want to flash superuser via CWM hope this helps!

Go here, download all of the files to your phone, transfer the drivers, odin, and the recovery.tar to your computer, then follow the steps outlined and root. It's what I did because we are on dial up Internet, but I i have data on my phone, so I just downloaded and transfered the files. Write down the directions on paper too, so you don't have to worry about missing a step.
Goodluck!

It's not installing the su file, keeps saying installation aborted. Restarted the phone and it said I had an update for superuser, updated it but all my root apps still won't work.

You've done the fix permissions right? And sometimes you need to attempt repeatedly. The last thing is, try using this version

It worked when I used this one
If not, I dunno

Root without odin

There any .zip flashables that i can root with to root. Cant find any
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
In order to flash custom roms you need a custom recovery and to get one you gotta flash it via Odin...
I think you're asking for an impossible lol

Sure, it's called SuperSUv0.96CWM.zip and is only flash-able from custom recovery (CWM/TWRP).
No matter how you slice it, you WILL need ODIN at one point or the other to root these Samsung phones. You have 2 methods:
Flash custom recovery via odin, then flash supersu.zip (Up's custom counter by 1) But can be erased with triangle away
Or
Flash the full rooted stock image via Odin (Will give you root, but no custom recovery. No added count on flash counter)
Oh ok. Just got the phone and dont have my laptop for another week, so it looks like im gonna have to wait for a littlebit
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Don't you have friends or family?
You don't need ODIN to install TWRP recovery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1809313
And after you install TWRP recovery, you can root with the zip file that you can d/l from the following thread:

From what I read from the link u need root permission to flash twrp so u have to root 1st. I dont think there is any around w/o odin. But I might be wrong

Yes, you are right. Goo Manager does need root permission. My bad.
There's no way I can think of to root without ODIN then.
Can't you use the adb method from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766552 then flash the superuser zip?
lol nvm

Try rerooting with chainfire's CF-ROOT method. It will install supersu, cwm recovery and the su binary.

hve u tried odin back to stock, if u already did odin try again with an earlier version of the modem, see if that helps, first before doing anything as u will loose data and u already have lost data no way of retreaving that, try a factory reset within ure phone 3 times if that doesnt fix it, then odin back again it could be that somewhere down the line u might of had a corrupt file while going back to stock.
follow this steps under how to unroot

Try rooting your phone again via Root66 that is much easier than that + its a updated version of rooting and am assuming that recently you just got your phone?
and if your gonna root it again go for the JB version the pre-rooted one.
Root66

Use this guide can't fail. Remember to unchecked reboot on Odin. Or you will never have root. Cause when it reboot it reflashes stock recovery u need to flash su before you let it reboot. So after you install cwr with Odin remove battery and boot into recovery and flash su. And ur good to go.

Soft brick on every reboot?

Have some quick questions.
I rooted my phone using this method:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlVCjtRUrgs&feature=youtube_gdata_player
After I root, I try to open Supersu but it says the binarys cannot be installed and it closes, also the "root access allow" prompt does not appear on any root applications.
They just get stuck at "searching for root rights."
Is there a preferred root method to use on this S4?
Which one works best?
Well anyway, I flashed wicked rom (because the phone IS rooted) and whenever I try to flash anything or merely even just a reboot, my phone soft bricks and I have to boot TWRP, wipe and install the rom again.
I only have this problem AFTER I have installed a custom rom.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

This is one of the reasons I went back to stock after trying out cm10.1 and 4.3 leak. I am kinda liking the features TW adds to Android. Just disable the apps you don't use or root stock and use TB to uninstall what you don't need.

Thank you sir for the reply.
I indeed found the problem.
It was the root method I was using.
I did the CF-AUTOROOT method and it canceled out all previous problems.

Thanks for the late reply.
I used the cable that came with the phone.
I've also used other cables for various other Odin flashes and all works as it should.
Pretty sure that's not a factor, and far from a problem.
